I have T-Mobile MDA.
This days I've hanged on Flexis keyboard - veri nice thing..... BUT THEY DON'T make version for HTC's devices.
SO - I've bought one Flexis FX-100 keyboard for 3800\3900 iPAQs (because it's connector differs from XDA only by wiring)
So - as I found on Keyboard - there's was:
Green - 7 pin (COM-RXD)
Red - 12 pin (COM-RTS)
GROUND wire wire - 22 pin (GND)
for XDA\MDA
on this sites connector's scheme I do this wiring:
Green wire - 10 pin (COM-RXD)
Red wire - 9 pin (COM-RTS)
Ground wire - 2 or 17 pin (GND)
and now becomes time to set up driver. I've done that. BUT AFTER I TRY TO START DRIVER I've got error message that driver can't open port (com port as I think). And that's no matter connected keyboard or not.
So - does anyone do same and does anyone already connected this keyboard to XDA\MDA?
Thanks. I'll give additional info here on request.
I think the answer is as follows:
Basically, diable the IR receiving check box under settings. The PPC phone only has one COM port, and the keyboard driver, and the IR driver are jockeying for the same port. Disable IR autoreceive, and soft reset. It will work fine then.
khm.... that one thing that I can't even think ))))))))))))))))
YOU'RE RIGHT!
It's works!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Nugged
Was it difficult to re-wire the Flexis keyboard.
Can you list the exact procedure?
Any possibility to post some pix?
Did you use the driver for the IPAQ 3800 that came with the keyboard?
mini usb
is it possible to connect this keyboard to mini USB and use it with HTC magican??

Hello, all,
we try to connect to the serial port of the XDA, but I cannot open the port COM1:
We have the proper connector, but I have no chance to open the port by software. What can be the reason, do I have to make something on the connectors (bridges ?).
Thanks a lot ...
i initially had this problem using windows xp. i fixed it by changing the settings of the resources (I/O Range and IRQ) COM1 uses in the device manager.
hope this helps.
Thanks, but I do NOT mean the serial port of any connected PC, I mean the serial port at the bottom of XDA.
I programmed it by embedded VC, on other devices this works, but the phone edition seems to disable the port. I can see COM1: in the registry, but it's not getting active.
I read, that I need a null-modem cable, but this also wasn't sucessfull. What should be inside the cable to communicate with any serial device outside the XDA?
Thanks
Make sure the IR port isn't grabbing COM1:
Start/Settings/Connections Tab/Beam
"Receive all incoming beams and select discoverable mode" should be left unchecked. In addition, close (via Settings/System Tab/Memory/Running Programs Tab/Stop) any driver software for accessories like keyboards that connect to the sync/charge port. Then you should be able to connect to COM1.
With respect to a Null Modem: You need to also hardwire some handshaking lines together, so don't abandon the null modem.
Hi,
thanks for the first replies. I already switched off the IrDA, and I can open the COM1: of XDA. Everything seems okay, but no data on TX...
I saw the connector layout on this site, but can (want) somebody to tell me the layout, if I want to do serial data-connection to an external device(not activesync)? I think, I need more hardwires than known by me....
I connected:
RTS (pin 9) with CTS (pin 7)
DCD (pin 6) with DTR (pin 11)
RX (pin 10)
TX (pin 8)
GND (pin 16)
What else can I do ????

I would attempt to connect DCD to the DTR of the computer at the other end, but am unsure whether this woud make a difference.
We experienced problems with the sreial port in older versions of the ROM. if I remember correctly, things didn't work in 3.00.xx. But I doubt you're using something that old.
Good luck...
Thanks,
but are there any other bridges/hardwires inside to do inside the connector to acivate the serial activity of the port ?

I also don't have a PC on the other side, it's a device, which has no handshaking ability...

You do need a null modem adapter. If you are using one, it may not be a proper one.
Or you can use a "serial/modem interface cable" you can get from www.pc-mobile.net in the XDA page.
Does anybody know how to access the hardware serial port (on Blue Angel)? I can use IR (COM1) and Bluetooth (COM4) to send/recieve data, but the bottom pins don't give any voltage. I've tried other ports (to COM9) but the device hangs unless it's COM2.
Here's the test app, select port on the left and then click 'Open Port'. When the port is open, the device is showing what is read at the port. You can click 'Salji' to start/stop sending dummy data via port or "Lista Portova" to list the available ports.

You have to deactivate IR to get Serial Port working, as thay use the same port!
(Settings/Connections/Beam/deactivate Receive all incoming beams )
I've tried that, when "Receive all incoming beams" is enabled - COM1 is invisible to the program and reports error, when disabled - the IR becomes COM1

Try the attached file by haicom.
Serial and USB crandle have different pin-out!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Connectors
Serial should be Com2 and is usable when Com1/IR is disabled.
Thanks! I'll give it a try as soon as I find a way to disable IR (and find some time to play with it)
Sorry to bother this forum whith even more questions about my car kit and TomTom GPS
I am trying to conect my TomTom GPS Mouse to my O2 CarKit.
I have found the pin configuration from another post on this site for the O2 Carkit connector.
RTS - Purple
DCD - Red
DTR - Blue
CTS - Yellow
RXD - Green
TXD - Orange
GND - Black
+5.5 V - Brown
(I hope this is correct)
But what the pin configuration for the TomTom GPS Receivers RJ11 connector is - I have no idea.
Please help anybody who knows which pins connect with which.
Thanks...
Yeah this one took me a while too....
Ok this is how to do it:
This is how to install a Leadtek GPS-mouse on the original O2 Carkit.
(The mouse shipped with Tom Tom Navigator is a Leadtek)
First of all you only need the cable with the RJ11 plug and the gps mouse on it. The 12V adapterplug you don't need anymore.
Preparation:
On the Carkit is a weird looking black connector for the gps.
Cut that off...
Now connect a connection block(I don't know the english word for it, but i mean the white blocks with screws in them so you can connect wires with other wires) to the following wires:
Brown
Black
Orange
Green
Now you can start:
Now you can choose to connect the mouse directly of you can make a removable connection. When I installed my carkit I used a fixed connection, but when I helped a friend out installing his carkit I used a standard phone connection box. You need a box where you can plug in a RJ11 connector. This is a better option because jou can easely unplug the gps mouse en use it again with the 12V adapter. This may come in handy if you want to be able to navigate in an other car too (Rental car on vacation).
I will explain how to make a fixed connection, so mounting a box in between will be fairly easy.
1) Cut off the RJ11 plug from the mouse
2) Strip the wires
*********
Note: The color codes of Leadtek mouse change all the time!
*********
In my case it where the following colors:
[Red](VCC +5)
[Wit] (RX)
[Black] (TX)
[No isolation] (Aarde)
3) Connect [Red] with (Brown)
4) Connect [White] met (Green)
5) Connect [Black] met (Orange)
6) Connect [No isolation] met (Black)
This should work!
PS
It may be wise to mount a switch between the radio-mute cable, because it mutes when you start TomTom.
You might want to listen to music when driving and navigating long distances.
do you know the pin numbers on the rj11 connector incase my wires are different colours...
No but you can see the wire witch no isolation as Pin 4
You're welcom, by the way....
Thanks for your help - my sat nav is now working through the xda car kit.
I was a bit nervous when i pluged it in for the first time - but nothing blew up and it is now all working - i would recomend this setup to anybody.
It took me a few minutes to juggle all the volume settings around untill i found a combination that had phone calls and sat nav voice prompts all at the same level but once that was done everything is fine.

when i connect the adaptercable from my gps system the xda stells me that the com1 port can't be found.
The tomtom software works, but the gps mouse is not recognised.
What can i do??
Thxs in advance,

Im sorry - i cant help - when i connected it all up it just worked first time - i had no error messages so have no experience in sorting them out...
check here http://www.pdashop.nl/support/1732/79 for a pin diagram for the rj11 connector for the leadtek gps mouse and check your wiring is the only thing i can suggest.
The connections should be as follows...
A1 to Black
A2 to Orange
A3 to Green
A4 to Brown
Hope this helps...

I just heard from another member. The solution is simple: if i turn out the irda port it should be ok.
I'm gonna trye first thing tomorrow.

I am having a problem with the xda not charging properly in ther O2 cradle whilst the GPS mouse is connected - its almost as if the GPS mouse is using most of the available current.
Im thinking of adding a resistor in series with the +Ve feed to the GPS mouse to limit the current it can take hoping this will leave more for charging the xda.
Does anybody else have any experience with this... what value resistor should I use...

IF COM1 can't be found you have installed it correctly!
Hook everything up like before and then disable beam connection in [settings],[connections],[Beam]
This is a known problem with navigating on a pda!
After that you will see that it works.
Just don't don't add anything yourself you'll probably mess up your hardware!!!
Here are the instructions in Dutch....

i have had a look at the xda connector place and am trying ti wire it up to a XDA car charger....
so far i have done....
RED wire - pin 21 (+5V) (on usb its +5V)
BLACK wire - pin 5 (GND) (on usb its GND)
GREEN wire - pin 8 (RS232_TXD) (on usb its DATA+)
WHITE wire - pin 10 (RS232_RXD) (on usb its DATA-)
could someone please help me as im totally confused why it will patch a signal but it wonr show on tomtom on serial 1 running v4.01.00 ppc2003 with baud rate of 4800 and nemea v2 or what ever it is
help me please
thx in advance
gaz
Looks like a usb only receiver to me.
um... but the serial and pda models are exactly the same as this but different conectors works fine on windows 98 but doesnt on xp :\ though its supposed to. pics up signal in like 10seconds much more powerfu lthen my old haicom 203e
but i want this on my xda badly dunno why it isnt working...
also i seem to have so many serial pports on my xda 1 lol its got:
com 9:
com 1:
com 2: (makes ppc go slow and freeze half the time)
usb on serial
ive tried them all but no luck :\ i swear for sure its connected up all ok :\
hellllp! lol
Try reversing the tx rx lines, it worked for swifty on his gps even though he wired it as per instructions.
tried everything :\ i rewired it back to usb to try out on my windows partition to make sure it wasnt a duff gps and it works exellent on windows 98 cant get it to work on xp nor how ever i hook it up on the xda doesnt work either the gps starts to flash to show it has a patch and thats like in my house its a hell of a powerful gps shame i cant get it on my xda
ah well waste of £40 damn gotta try flog it now
Hey everyone, I'm trying to Wire a iGPS-180 for my SX56... the original wiring was for an iPAQ 3100-3700... I've got the pinouts for the SX56 but I was wondering if anyone knew what the pinout for an iPAQ 3100-3700 were? I'm tying to trace these wires so I know which one is which because the color codes given in another post do not match what I have.
Thanks,
MMC
One more thing... when I plug everything in and try to Enable GPS it gives me a communication error and says that in can't open communication port... I'm using OSTIA 3.25, Do I need a higher version?
Go to settings/connections and uncheck "beams" if it is checked you will have no com1 port which is the port the wired gps wants to use, also if you have a keyboard driver present you will need to disable the driver.
You're a frickn' Genius!!!! You just solved 24 hours of head scratching
THANKYOU!!!
Hey all,
I was wondering if it is possible to communicate with an Arduino with a Tilt through the Tilt's USB port? I've just gotten into device application development and I had a cool idea I was wanting to make but the biggest hurdle is how to communicate between the Arduino microcontroller and the Tilt.
For those that don't know what an Arduino is (I feel sorry for you ), it is a microcontroller platform based off of the AVR Atmel168 processor. The version I've got on hand right now is a Seeeduino that has a mini-USB port on-board communicating to the Atmel168 through an FTDI USB-Serial chip (shows up as a serial port when plugged into the computer). It would be great if the Arduino showed up as a new serial port on the phone when plugged in, but I doubt it will be that easy. Does anyone know if the Tilt/Kaiser USB port can host other devices?
If anyone has a suggestion or has tried something like this, please comment. Or if I'm just crazy for thinking the phone can do this, tell me so.
Thanks all!
-Jeremy
USB drivers
Im not sure how much this could help, but it may get you off to a good start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480899
i noticed it said serial port in there somewhere, so i hope it helps!
You can have a try with the drivers mentioned above. If this fails, hook a Bluetooth module to your Arduino and forget about wires
When I was waiting for a haircut today, I was fiddling in the task manager and looked at the devices tab. Just thought I'd run these by you all:
Com 8: serialusbfn.dll (\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers\Serial_Class)
Com 9: Serial_UART.dll (Drivers\BuiltIn\SERIAL_UART3)
I haved searched around or messed with these yet but what in the world could com 8 be being used for right now?
-Jeremy
P.S. I did see that link and that will be the next thing I'll try, Thanks!
AFAIK there are some internal peripherals that are connected to the main processor through serial ports. That might be those.
Use I2C - you can get at it through the DS2746... when looking at the PCB on the side with all of the metal-enclosed areas, it's on the left, and towards the bottom (IIRC)... should be able to run 4 wires (get a ribbon cable) out the bottom (into the battery compartment)...
I've been considering this seriously... I2C is a damn useful bus, and it's underused in this device (only battery chip, touch screen, and camera control, AFAIK)....
The bus itself is two wires - SDA (data) and SCL (clock), and you'll also need +5v and ground.
Would be nice to hook up a spare ds1621 (you can get these as free samples) or a compass/accelerometer chip
