hi,
do anyone knows if it is possible to send and recv faxes via ppc.
rgds
With ppc (Pocket PC) you can use KSE TRUEFAX.
BUT:
With the XDA they still have some troubles. I think they have a trial version where you can test it.
greetings,
Kaputter
Fax with XDA
I have managed to download the fax software from the site and get it to work! Accordinging to O2 here, I'm only the second person IN Australia!
They gave me no advice, ditto the phone service provider!
Sending faxes is easy, download the software, set up Truefax as follows:
Banner Name: Your name, eg Bill Smith
Banner Number : 0410999000 (your phone no.)
Station Id: phone no. again.
Tick send banner box.
Receiving faxes is more difficult. Here you need to have another number (mobile) allocated to receive faxes. The faxes when I trialled this, get stored in a message service, rather than being received by the XDA. In the message service, you can specify where they be sent onto, eg home/office fax.
As I am sending heaps of faxes, the receing of is not really required, so I ditched the mobile incoming fax no. after 1 hr as I couldm't get it to work!
The service in Aus. works well with sending though. I'm with Telstra, apparently not all service providers are set up for this, so check!!!
Truefax
My only options for truefax are Com1 Serial on usb etc. Do I have a hayes compatible modem in my device?
Com 2
Ralph, when I use my XDA here in Australia with Telstra to send a fax it throws up a Com 2 thing when I press send.
I love the facility, I used it today to construct and send a fax to a customer who had lost my quote from last week. She needed it to place an official order, I stopped my journey, constructed the fax and sent.
I rang through and her colleague was just passing her the 'new' quote!
So is there a modem on com3, is this from the cradle? Which phone?
Not sure what you mean
Ralph, not sure what your question actually is !
My advice would be to download the Truefax sofware from the xda site, go for the trial version. Set it up as I have mentioned on this thread.
When I send a fax on my xda it goes through com2.
Just download the trial software and give it a go.
If you have set it up properly and it doesn't work, it may be your mobile carriers fault, in which case contact them. Here in Australia I'm with Telstra and it works, I have heard rumours it won't with some carriers.
Anyway, I'm off to sort out a BMP for my fax cover page rather than have the O2 XDA one!
Well for you AT&T folks, right now the modem is not able to connect on the GSM network. Just to keep folks from using an ISP for internet connection. So Truefax will attempt to d-liver but will get a no response type error message.
Maybe this will change...

i received this e-mail this weekend in regards to my breeze always dropping calls. it refers to a new update but only via the support centre
Good Morning,
?
The fact that your calls drops is?not normal, if it does that you should try
to Hard reset the device.
If the hard reset doesn't sort the issue you will need to send the phone to
repair.
Note: hard reset will delete all data from the device, you need to save your
personnal files and synchronize your device first.
I can confirm we have recently released a new ROM update for the Mteor.
?
Due to the complex nature of this ROM update we will not be offering this
download via our website. Instead we are offering it through our network of

does anyone know what the turn around time from being received to being sent out from HTC is?
in regards to a software update and a repair/replacement which would include any tests they'ed need to do.
thanks
HI, just try to deactivate the Umts Bandselection... means don't choose Auto .... just try GSM only....
i have Problems to when have activated the AUTO feature...
steve
i have done, thought it fixed it for a whole day aswell, however it seems to make it happen less but it still happens a few times a day
well got the phone back, they actually replaced it so got a new 1 out of the mix and the fact i bought it off ebay second hand - bonus!
the dropping of calls still occurs but it seems its the 3G orange payg sim i have. i will try and get a new one out of orange on saturday and see if that works, i know its the sim as i tried a orange 2G payg sim and it has no problems whatsoever
so its oranges fault and HTC's for not making it work correctly with the sim.
Dan
No new rom on it then? ;p
the rom had a .3 at the end of it instead of .1
the radio was the same too.
My MTeoR arrived today. I also have a "3G sim" or whatever they are.. the one that came with my Nokia N95. That same sim has worked perfectly in my E50 for the past three months, but in the MTeoR I am frequently being disconnected during calls, and even when the phone is off-call, the display changed from "3G Orange" to "No Service" quite frequently.
This is no good
wow, i know it doesn't help its nice to know its not just me breaking the phone like i seem to do to everything electrical
by the way t-mobile, vodafone sims i have work fine in 3g mode, its obviously a orange problem. i have e-mailed them again asking if its a common problem. all i can say is you do the same and maybe our collective voices will be heard.

yes man, Kaiser is Tytn2, Hermas is Tytn, tytn had fax modem, so thats why i want to that.
Hey Maldives are you sure the TyTn had a fax modem?
I could always get my windows xp winfax pro to use my Nokia 6600 over bluetooth as a fax modem. However I could never get the TyTn to be recognized as a fax modem. I was therefore suspecting TyTn did not have a fax compatible modem. Maybe I was doing something wrong.

modem does not = fax modem...
and that site says that it doesnt have a touch screen, GPS, PTT and doesnt support stereo output... all things that it does or can be made to do
Sorry to interupt you, guys
1. Kaiser can act as FAX modem.
2. You must have CSD Service activated on your SIM card first in order to recieve FAX/ DATA CALL on your handset.
3. CSD (DATA CALL) / FAX service may not be available in you area or from your preferred GSM carrier. Please contact you GSM carrier Data Support for information regarding activation of CSD (DATA CALL)/ FAX services on your SIM card.
4. _ALL_ HTC handsets released to date have CSD capabilities.
I hope it helps.

Dear I have this service on my GSM network (dhiraagu), and i used this function on Xda2 mini, it works fine, it send fax directly to fax machines.
im looking to buy htc kaiser 120. im trying to know about this. so thank you very much.
Look this compare sheet.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer
After reading all these posts I am still skeptical if TyTn or TyTn II or for that matter any of the Windows Mobile 5 or higher devices can be used to send or rerceive faxes.
As pointed out by Maldives the device he mentions was a pre WM5 device and there was a program by the name of TrueFax which could be used to send faxes. This program had never been updated for compatibility with WM5 or higher.
I once had the Imate PDA2K which was a WM 2003 SE device. I could use Truefax to send and receive faxes. Later I upgraded to the Imate Jasjar and then to Imate Jasjam and now to HTC Touch. I still cannot find any program which is compaitble with these devices to handle faxes. Of course I have the CSD service enabled and also a dedicated fax number given to me by my mobile service provider. It is the same SIM I was using with the Imate PDA 2k
In order to send / receive faxes firstly you must have a software to handle faxes. This does not exist for WM5 and higher devices.
Or
The modem on your device must be detectable as a fax modem by one of the Windows XP / Vista faxing softwares such as winfax pro. Again this does not happen.
I therefore think that none of the windows mobile 5 / 6 devices has a fax modem. CSD yes, but no fax no matter what the different websites say.
I hope I am wrong but I would love to hear from someone who has yet actually used any of the WM5 / 6 devices to send / receive faxes.
Regards
Well. Not true.
all HTC devices are FAX service capable.
TruFAx has been designed in a twisted way and requires handset to be initiated in FAX modem mode first...
You would not need this normaly.
I am sure that TruFAX has been discontinued due to very limited demand for that type of software application these days.
Just letting you know that our product (SecureGSM) requires CSD service to operate. Therefore we have to make sure that all HTC devices are DATA call enabled. You can take my words for it. I am speaking from experience.
I hope it helps.
This thread is a little over my head but the ability to use the Kaiser to fax sounds very handy. Would some one be able to evaluate the differing opinions in this thread and give a run down of how some one unfamilure with the information may go about making use of this function?
So has anyone tried SecureGSM?
I really need the TyTN II (kaiser) to work as a modem. Or to at last send faxes!
any body have wm6 compatible fax softwares...
i have htc tytnII.
Anyone know how to fax data through our Kaiser? I serached it for a long time, but still no luck. Can anyone teach us step by step. Very appreciated.
I used Nokia 9500 communicator for sending faxes quite often. However, I broke my head on Jasjar but did not succeed. Was told by KSE Truefax there are hardware and software issues that do not allow faxing on Jasjar etc. Now, if somebody is sure about HTC TyTnII sending fax then he should give step by step instructions. He must have Actually tried and succeeded. That will settle the issue.

Believe me your TyTn II cannot send faxes. There are so many people on this thread who are arguing that it can be used for sending / receiving faxes but no one gives instructions as to how this can be accomplished, the reason being that it simply cannot be done.
Hi there
I'm due for an upgrade (got a HTC Wizard @ mo) and wanting to avoid carrying mobile & blackberry - have read that I can put BB Connect on Kaiser and this seems a good option.
My question is - work use Vodafone for BES - but do I need to be on the same network or can I stay with Orange and get BES activated on my account? I use my personal phone (had same number for years!) and just bill the company back - so would prefer to stay with Orange (for call plan) if possible.
Have asked Orange (UK) and they couldn't give me an answer that made sense, so thought I'd ask here!
Thanks for any help
Dan
BB Connect on O2
O2 have just released the Kaiser and i before i go and purchase one i was wondering if anybody knows whether the blackberry client will work on it and where i can get it from if possible. thanks

Your Kaiser can work as a blackberry if you install BlackBerry Connect 4 on your device. Regarding the SIM card, it has to be the one given by your Blackberry service provider. I mean if you use Orange for the phone, and if Orange is not you blackberry provider (it shouldn't be) then you will have to put the blackberry SIM card in your Kaiser and use another phone for your Orange SIM card (I know blackberry can also provide the phone functionality if you ask it and of course pay for it...).
I know you can put two SIM cards in your Kaiser using a specific tool (the brand name is SIMORE) but I don't know if it works with the Blackberry SIM cards (all I know is that is does not work with 3G ...).
thanks for the reply - what do you mean when you say that Orange shouldn't be my blackberry supplier?
surely i can get phone & blackberry on the same sim card, rather than use 2 sims?
not sure if i have an answer to the question yet either. to receive work e-mail do i need to be on the same network (i.e. vodafone) or can i be on a different one (e.g. orange)?
thanks

BB Connect comes on the application disk and is running on my Stellar right now. Obviously you have to tell O2 you want a Blackberry tariff before it will work.
I've had it running since I got my phone on Friday and my only complaints so far are that it didn't pull down all my old emails off the server like my 'real' Blackberry did/does and it appears you have to go through the Blackberry Internet Explorer shortcut to browse the web.
Blackberry tariff is £10 a month for (allegedly) unlimited email and browsing, though I suspect there is a FUP of 200meg, like on the data bolt on.
Now Telus tells me the S720 can be flashed "down" to WM5 and it will then have MMS support.
So... any clues on how to do this? Or more to the point, where to obtain WM5 for it??
You dont have MMS on your device?!
Um, no... I have another thread on this topic already. The S720 is loaded with WM6, which doesn't have MMS support. Some providers apparently load Arcsoft MMS Composer to provide this capability; mine (Telus) has chosen not to.
From everything I've garnered so far, WM5 has the capability built-in, and a Telus tech has informed us that the S720 CAN be flashed to WM5 to get the MMS support.

The S730 has MMS support. I'm not sure what the S720 is?
Well, the closest cousin to it I could find, going by the pictures with the forums. You don't appear to have a forum specific to this phone... I don't know what "cute" name, if any, it's been given.
http://telusmobility.com/bc/pcs/handset_htc_s720.shtml
mm
Yes it seems to be a HTC phone just for TELUS in Canada. Seems to be a variation of the S730. Uses the MSM7500 instead of the MSM7200
MMS is there on the S730 and wm6 so i dont really know why you havnt got it. Very strange
Since years, HTC is using Arcsoft MMS on their devices. the s720 is also HTC-Made.
Unfortunately microsoft still hasnt integrated an own MMS client :-(
But it's the first time since years that I've heard of a HTC-made phone without the Arcsoft MMS client...
Apparently Telus doesn't think anyone needs this feature anymore - their story was that NO PDA-style phones have this support because they can send pictures though email instead - no consideration for sending pictures to others who DON'T have email capabilities. "Oh, but everyone will have PDA phones within a year" according to one rep... doesn't help much RIGHT NOW, does it, ****er? He also informed us that NO PDA phones have EVER been able to send MMS messages... really? My Treo 650 from your competitor does it just fine.
Anyway, this is some very interesting information that I can use with Telus... we're pretty miffed about all this - well, my wife is, because before they sold us on our new contracts and these new phones, she was happily sending picture messages to her cousin from her RAZR (which our store agent was amazed to hear, she didn't think that was possible either), and now she's ready to ditch the whole thing to go back to her RAZR. I mean, she loves the phone, the little keyboard, the surfing and email and IM and everything, but...
</rant>
Maybe get the mms software from the Verizon version of the phone? Or install WM6.1?
The S720 is for Canada and Qwest communications in the central / northern US, the Verizon version is the SMT 5800 and has a different outer casing, dont think the hardware changed other than to work on their set up.
I wouldnt want to downgrade os's, dont know if it would happen but some hardware might not function properly without the drivers from the latest version that was installed on the phone. Is there a third party app that will allow you to do what you need? Weird that they would disable that feature, wouldnt it be built into windows and disabled somehow?
Hey there!
im told that I can use my Tilt as a fax machine with the appropriate fax software.
Anyone heard of this?
you peaked my interest so i did a google search and found this....
havent tried it yet, but i will soon.

I'm not sure if the build-in modem supports fax but if so, than only via GSM not via UMTS. Do you have a 3G connection or a simple GSM-connection?
I assume a GSM. Using the ATT Tilt. The program will open but can't figure out how to take a document and fax it. No help documents on the program.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that we all have the same interests. It would seem logical to me that this is highly possible because the device has all the necessary abilities, just as any other computers, for sending faxes. So, I thought there may be a Winfax or Fax Works software for WM6.
Here's the free trial software that I found.

it means telephone customer services for AT&T/TMobile, etc (or whoever your network operator is) and speak to them about what you are wanting to do.
For a lot of network operators, this is a service that they have to enable on your account.
I was extensively using fax on my Nokia 9500. However, after shifting to win mobile I have been unsuccesful. kse truefax told me there is not enough available to them from HTC etc. You need to tell your phone service provider to activate fax (like data or GPRS). Any actual success stories are welcome to me
I've been using an http://www.myfax.com account. Seems to work pretty good. Incoming faxes are in .pdf, if you want to send a fax you compose an email and send to [email protected]
I don't know how it is for most GSM providers but with mine you can receive faxes without the phone company having to turn on anything but sending faxes would require them to enable the fax services.

That's what I mean!
On my SIM card I have both CSD as well fax service enabled through my mobile network provider.
Now when I put this SIM in my Nokia 6600 I can get WinFax Pro to recognize the Nokia as a modem and so I can use WinFax pro on my PC to send a fax using the Nokia as a modem.
However when I put the same SIM in my Kaiser the WinFax Pro on my PC does not recognize it as a fax compatible modem.
So I assume that the modem on the Kaiser is not fax compatible. Any suggestions and views welcomed

This is only a fax software. It won't work as intended unless you have an online fax service feature from a provider.
