OK.. I dont know alot about my PPCPE, and apparently I dont know enough to find a good head set for my phone. I know it is a 2.5mm jack is that not right? I have tried universal 2.5 mm and well some work some dont, some work if I dont push it in all the way, and some do. Crazy stuff..
Anyway, I find one that I really like. It looks like it will be perfect for my small little ear cavity. Does anyone know if this might work with the PPCPE/XDA device:
http://www.jabra.com/products/ewboom.htm
Its called the Ear Wave Boom its coming out shortly this month I believe.
I think it would be perfect. If it will work.
Let me know.. look forward to the day I find a good one.
Nope want work with an adapter, sorry!
HTH
Curious but why will it not work? What is wrong about it? 2.5mm is the plug size right? Why does it seem that some of these 2.5 mm universals work and some dont?
I ask seriously because I am confused about it all. I have a 2.5 mm jabra that works currently, so I assumed another Jabra that is also 2.5mm should work as well.
Unless I am confused or missing some info I just dont understand.
Jabra Headset
Will not work, because the 2.5mm jack on the XDA is 4 pole, not three. The four poles support:
1. Mic +
2. Left ear +
3. Right ear +
4. Common ground
On the jabra set, which is mono, there is no 3rd ring on the plug. Inserting it into the xda shorts the right hand channel to ground, and when in phone mode (i.e. mono, not playing back .mp3's or whatever), the left and right hand audio channels are just connected together. Shorting the right hand channel wipes out your headset sound completely.
Something is not accurate then..
Sorry but something just is not right then. Because I have a regular Jabra headset, that uses the basic 2.5 universal adapter. I can use it with my XDA, and yes it is only 3 poles/2 rings on the jabra adapter.
Now granted the button to answer does not work, but I can hear just fine and speak just fine using it.
So, I am confused still. Your not the only one to say it will not work, heck when I bought it the guy said it would not work. But it does. And its not the only one I have like that that does work. I have also used a body glove headset that is a 2.5 universal adapter. So like I said I am still confused.
A universal 2.5mm headset should not work.
You need an adapter for use with a universal headset. See:
http://pc-mobile.net/xda.htm
Many universale headset do not have answer/mute button. Even if they have, it may not work.
(2.5mm universal headset were originally produced for Motorola phones. Earlier models do not support answer/mute button)

i always think about using my bluetooth headset for regular phone lines.. i did find two ways but none of them worked:
1- a pc software that will enable headset profile on pc so i can use my jabra with my pc but this wont solve the program because the software which i found is not stable+ ive never found a modem which would enable using windows sound system to make a "real" phone calls
2- jabra offers an adapter for bluetooth headsets.. this adapter can connect with "any" blutooth headset and converts what it receives to regular 2.5mm jack...
so if i can find any adapter that would change the 2.5mm jack to regular 3.5mm jackS then i can use any bluetooth headset with speakerphone jacks in my modem....
the problem is that i couldnt find such an adapter.. put in mind is that 2.5mm is not ordinary 2.5mm.. it has one line for mono headphones and anothet for mic.. so i need an adapter that would change this to TWO separate jacks one for mic and one for headphones...
if someone heard of such adapter please help me..
i tried to make my own adapter but i couldnt find the right tools in local stores here...
USB-Dongle?
Hi Mephistodan,
won't a Bluetooth USB Dongle with headset profile solve your problem?
Unfortunately I don't have such a Dongle myself, but heard of several people who use these for sound input/output.
If you combine these with your 'softphone', it should do the job.
cheers,

I know that radio shack in the US sells a splitter like that. It was made for multimedia where it requires a seperate plug for mic and speaker. I have one that I picked up a while ago when I was using a headset on my pc for ip phone. I had to have seperate plug for mic and heaset then, this might work for you.
In looking real quick found this...

Hope that helps
i dont belive that radioshack is in europe
but there are plenty of smaller chains which would prob
have the same products

do you know of any software or and modem that enables using windows sound system for making real full duplex phone calls on regular phone line???
Radioshock in the UK is called Tandy, I have no idea why they decided to rename it though, they carry the same product range as the USA's Radioshack
to let you know there is "land line" plones out there that have bluetooth some are just base station type things some are full phones
try googleing

Hi Mephistodan,
no, sorry didn't have the time for the real important stuff, yet
I'd like to do what you are doing now with Cisco's IP Softphone (I know it's not a regular phone line).
Additionally, I found this @ geek.com:
http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2004Jan/bpd20040126023599.htm
Don't know if it is out yet, and what they charge for this gimmick...
OK, one should open up the eyes and READ closely
These thingy's cost a lot - like you said in your post before....
cheers

ive just ordered all the items i want to do what i want..

Hi I would like to know if HTC RC E100 will work with hd2.
Thanks for answers!
No, it won't work, because the RC-E100 has a mini USB cable and not a micro USB one, i tried it already with a RC from a friend

Won't a Mini to Micro converter work?
This is a really good question. I would really like to use this control unit with my own headphones...
I'm new to the workings of the RC E100.
Could some kind soul please explain the connections for this item?
If I'm reading this correctly, does it connect directly into the micro USB port (with adapter if it works) but how does it then pick up the Music/Phone call data if it is not connected to the Audio Jack (or is it a split connection with one to the USB port & one to the 3.5 Audio Jack)?

I don't think it will work, because the mini USB cable from the RC E100 has a special configuration (cable/pin). So i think that a convertor won't work.
Dearest fellow hd2-owners,
I am searching a couple of days to a wired handsfree headset with music control for my HTC HD2. Unfortunately, i cannot find one, besides the original included by the phone, wich doesn't support exchangeable earphones.
The RC e100 is just what i'm looking for.
Can anybody tell me if it is possible with a cable between it:
3.5 mm to mini usb:
If not, can anybody tell me if there is a alternative wired handsfree headset with music control, which is supported by htc hd2... ???
Thanks ..
Kindly Regards M.
For further explaination:
With music control, i mean: song forward, song backward, volume etc..
Answer call / hangup
Thanks ..
M
I asked htc support if rc e 100 would work with mini to micro adapter and they told me that it won't been working correctly.
They also told me that something comparable to rc e100 won't be in sail soon for micro usb devices.

This is a JOKE. I have the HTC desire, and the headphones that come boxed are horrible. When you finally fit them in your ear they hurt after 5 seconds. Why would you not have a socket in the damn media control bit? Every Nokia phone i have ever had comes with this basic feature.. allowing you to connect your own ear buds to the multifunction remote control.
so in this case, I’m going to have to cut up the headphones that came with the desire and attach a 3.5 socket, allowing me to connect my sennheisers and giving me the ability to control the music player /sigh GG htc. you build a sweet phone but gimp its audio playback all because u didn’t want to spend the 1 cent it would have cost to put a socket in the damn headset attachment, and not even bothering to offer an accessory.
I should point out that the headset that comes with the desire is not micro usb, but rather a 3.5 plug. It allows play, pause, skip, answer and has a mic.
I am going to jump on the bandwagon on this one too and comment on how disgraceful it is that accessories aren't interchangeable and that nothing similar is being devised for the newer generation of phones. The headset is one of the failing features of HTC units and a good quality remote would be the answer to just let people use whatever IEMs, heaphones they want.
"Luckily" my right headphone that came with it is broken already. It may have been from the start, it sounds horrible like it's scraping its voice coil and I was about to order the RC E100 when running into this thread... Thanks for saving me .
I will have no choice and no reservation to cut the earbuds off and mount a 3.5mm socket to it. I may even go and experiment if HTC added some not-yet implemented resistorvalues for a future remote control, as I did do some checks and it seems the remote on the standard headphone is a simple resistor network like e.g a Sony RM-X4S (search for panuworld and RM-X4S to see a schematic) caraudio wired remote. I wouldn't put it past them to actually have the volume-control resistor values programmed into the HD2, but simply not implemented in any accessory yet.
A happy but sometimes also disillusioned HTC HD2 owner. Next stop: voice dialing... (last I looked that wasn't solved yet either, but I've been ill so didn't actively look for a couple of months, that's also the reason I didn't get into the wired remote resistor values any further. I did measure the existing values on the standard headset remote and actually have an RM-X4S at home that might get me started with some standard values (or drawers full of other resistors))
Damn, this thread has got me excited, I wanna go home and figure this out! (They'll let me out the hospital on Thursday, but please let me know if someone somewhere has already done this work, cannot believe I would be the first to dive into this!!! "This" being the mapping of the resistor values of the OEM headphone headset remote and searching for extra resistorvalues that might have different functions (10 minutes work in mapping the values, 15 minutes putting it in writing and posting it here and another hour to butcher my headset beyond repair and hook up the RM-X4S to it, guess I might have to sacrifice my headset for science unless someone has a broken one they want to ship me, should have picked up the run-over Nokia headset I saw on the ground a few weeks back that had a 4 pin 3.5mm connector, that's all I need for hooking up other resistorvalues...Oh, I'll figure something out or indeed butcher it and ask the company to buy me a new one, as mine IS actually broken. They'll survive the extra 9€ on top of having to pay me while I am out of the running for half a year due to the illness...)
BTW, this thread is old, and there is a micro-phone 3.5mm input super simple remote available, but it does less than the OEM headset apart from you being able to plug in your own headphone. HTC HD2 Audio Adaptor for 3.5mm to 3.5mm HS U350 (with Stereo Headset + HTC Logo, Retail Pack) for 21 € That's more money than a RC E100 with a LOT less functionality: good call HTC

Keep us posted man. Always interested in new audio hacks for the HD2. I'm missing the volume control too!
RC e100 via adaptor to HD2 possible?
Hello!
There is another threat (german only) which deals with connecting the RC e100 via adaptor to the HD2:
http://www.pocketpc.ch/android-allgemein/118188-htc-rc-e-100-headset.html
Maybe the following idea is totally nonsense, please let me know if I'm wrong:
The RC e100 apparently uses the extendedUSB version of miniUSB.
Does anyone know if the HD2's micro USB provides extendedUSB functionality as well?
Can anyone provide a circuit diagram to modify a mini to micro usb adaptor or cable 'USB-Adapter - 5-polig Micro-USB Typ B (M) - Mini-USB, Typ B (W)' to use the extendedUSB functionality of HD2 for the RC e100?
Thanks for your reply!

Took quite a while for me to test, but using an RM4-XS (or something) does NOT work on the inputs of the HD2/Leo. So it seems the resistor values of this Sony car-audio remote do not trigger any 'hidden' functions, so it is likely the OEM remote on the headphone is all the functionality you are going to get.
Sorry about getting peoples hopes up...
hey guys,
i've been searching some time for an alternative to the original headset.
you all know its a piece of ****
there's a instruction in the xda wiki to mod the original headset and to use the remote with in-ears or something else.
i'm wondering if i should do that..but thats another question
i found the remote for creative's zen.
you see, it has some more functions than the original htc headset, but i think the "standard" functions like play/pause, forward/rewind etc should work, didnt they?
you find it here
thanks guys.
DN41
unless it randomly handles the button presses the same way as the HD2, it likely won't work.
Furthermore, as the volume up/down buttons appear to be used to control the volume programming of the Zen (as opposed to affecting the output signal strength in the line itself), that will definitely not work as there HD2 doesn't doesn't appear to have an ability to control it's volume software-side through the in-line remote. And even if it does, you're still depending on the fact that again, the Zen does those button-presses the same way.
Therefore...too many "if's", so likely it won't work.
mh, yeah think you're right.
so i think im gonna mod the original one.
DN41
This could be a better solution
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320423310940&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
thanks, looks really interesting
DN41
edit: watch out! thats an mini-usb to 3,5mm adapter with remote.
so it won't work with hd2...
i think if i'd be even a micro usb, it wouldnt work, cause i think the hd2 isnt able to play music over usb port, cause its got an 3,5mm audio jack.
I know its cause the 3.5 jack is too long.. but i dont exactly know what to do..
Im just plugging my phone into the A/V source on the headunit.. and using my Slacker account for internet radio...
The input cable is RCA coming from the headunit to 3.5 jack on the other end plugged into the headset part of the HD2...
It will work for a while.. then find a reason to short and soft reset the phone.
Here is what i DO know.. .
Slacker works fine when i use it with any of my headphones...
the headphone jacks plug in all the way.
The jack in the car fits fine but doesnt go in all the way.
____________________________________________________
So i know i need an adapter.. or should i just shoot for a whole new RCA/3.5 cable... either way is fine... but i want to know WHY one is longer than the other so i dont just reorder the same problem.. is there a name for it?
ill just scoop a new RCA/3.5 ... i just wanna make sure its the right one.
This happened to me,
what i did was take my original headphones and headed to the electronics store and compared the size of the jack with the headphone jack size and also made sure i bought properly insulated kinda expensive but high quality monster cable.
Now it works like a charm. I dont know why some jacks differ in sizes. Hope this helped.
So my HD2 headphones broken. Right earpiece won't work, but if i shake cable around 3.5mm jack a bit, it will start working for a moment and then back to silence. Also FM radio signal is very weak.
So i must get new ones. Now, should i get HTC ones or can i use any other headphones with working buttons and mic?
How do i know, what headphones are compatible with HD2 and have working mic and buttons?
If you need mic and buttons, you must get heaphones that has 4 pins in part that goes in the device.
Can't give pic, but google 4 pin headphones
The question was - what's the best ones?
Sorry, can't answer your question because I've never change it until now.
But a hint if you want to try it: there are different jack layouts, sometimes GND is on pin 3, sometimes on pin 4. I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly, Nokia and Blackberry headssets are just the other way round.
And together with the keys I'm afraid you need to buy an HTC replacement.
But perhaps, someone found a working replacement?
Regards
mf_1
The SkullCandy headphones work great with my HD2 on WP7.
Ps: lepo da je še kakšen slovenec tuki gor.
Thanks, but I'm looking for something cheap. I tend to break headphones quickly
P.S.. Saj jih je kar nekaj gor . A z androidom delajo?
anyone with 3.5mm jack. i suggest creative ep630.
why headphones,? better use of earphones, I can recommend the hippo shroom -i, cheap prices for audiophile sound quality
sorry I was not selling and promotion I just simply want to help
I believe author has mistaken headphones for earphones.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ywords=HTC+earphones&rh=i:aps,k:HTC+earphones
check out noisehush. They are cheap, but I never had one so I cant promise anything
I think everything with a normal jack plug is compatible.
I'm using a bluetooth headset from ugh ugh "Nokia"
i tried the stock earpiece/mic (very good sound!!) that comes with the Nokia N900 but it crashes the HD2 so this seems to confirm the mixed up grounding pin.
But i also tried the stock earpiece/mic from the Samsung Galaxy Pad, which has a good sound too, and found it working perfectly.
cheers
