O2 official car kit - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

Has anyone got one of these and can testify they work and the sound quality is up to scratch before I part with £200quid times two.
I accept car kits are never perfect, but I had experience of a non-Nokia kit on a Nokia phone and I might as well have dialled and thrown the phone on the other seat. It would have been clearer. Stumping up for the genuine Nokia one fixed this and worked well.
Thanks in advance.

car kit
yeah..i got one..its quite good...but the supplied speaker is not great...much better if u wire into ur sound system

O2 Car Kit
Well, they finally arrived today and although not installed yet I've noted a few points.
1. You get a cradle for the phone, but no bracketry to secure it, so you slip your phone into a holster and this has a flat back plate. I've not found a bracket yet, but might be able to modify the one that came with the Nokia kit to work. I am also going to take this up with O2 to see what they have to say. They do state the bracket is not supplied, but only in the leaflet with the kit.
2. There is a second "data" connector on a tail from the cradle to "brain". I refer to it as a data connector as all the cable cores are fine, and there is a low voltage, low current connector on the end. I need to find out what this is for as it would be really handy if it was a serial / power connector for attaching a GPS receiver or similar.
3. The kit is actually made by ORA (www.ora.co.uk) but they do not sell it retail. Neither do they seem to know anything about it. Their techs told me to speak to O2 regarding the connector, O2 are more clueless still.
4. Other suppliers sell it at least £20 cheaper than O2. Shame I didn't find them first.
If anybody knows any detail on this "data" connector, then I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

That pesky 8 pin connector on the O2 Handsfree kit

O2 XDA Car Kit and RS232 connector?????

RE: XDA Car kit supplied by O2 in the UK.
This is a long shot.
My company has supplied O2 XDA(1) and O2 Car kit. I would like to add SAT NAV. Problem is I cannot find out what the RS232 pinouts are on the car kit wiring loom. Apparently the people who manafactured the car kit did/would not make an RS232 cable???? I am reliably informed that "a cable" might be produced next year! The car kit wiring loom has a spare, flat 8 pin connector which I am assured carries the RS232 signals however this source of info would/could not give me the pinouts. Buzzing this connector out with the XDA socket on the cradle, due to the close proximity of pins, is not an easy task for someone as optically challenged as myself plus I've got hands like meat hooks. This 8 pin connector is not one that I would expect to see for this type of job. It is similar to the type of connector found in PC's for connecting serial "D types" to the motherboard although is only one row of pins/sockets.
I know all this is pretty vague but I am an optimist.

charge port cracked

Hey Guys,
so i bought my phone in december online and it worked great. I love the phone and think its an unbelievable investment. But just last week, I tried to plug in my mini-usb upside down and I cracked the small chip that the miniusb plugs into.
The phone does not charge, and seems pretty much ruined. I tested alternate batteries and went to the at&t store and they said that because its cracked it wont charge.
Does anyone know of any reasonably priced repair centers? Or has anyone ever had experience just shipping it back to them and getting a new one?
I called them and said it would cost $300 to repair, cost me $250 to buy....
Thanks a lot,
Greg
Search -- there's a place in the US that will repair it for about $80
The same thing happend to my tilt. I would recomend you try charging it using the adapter. It seems the adapter aligns the pins on the mini USB port.
Hope this helps.
There is always the option of getting a second batter and a cradle to charge it I have one just so i can take the spare battery on the go
Here is a good example of what to look for
Its not a fixed USB port but this should get you back in business. Also, If you have Hard-SPL , you dont need the USB port to flash or mod another rom. Just use the Micro-SD card. Its faster and easier anyway
Hope this helps
Excellent repair work from: www.ppctechs.com
I've had two tilts repaired.

Dirt cheap source of mini USB cables for Hero!

If anyone's looking for an extra cable or two, you can get them for $2.70/ea with free shipping from DealExtreme.com. I just got two in the mail today, and can confirm that they definitely have the same funky straight-side + sloped-side shape as HTC's own cables & fit the phone securely & snugly.
I can't really judge the wire quality (I'm not about to cut one open to examine it), but I'd say they appear to be about equal (or slightly higher) in quality than the cable that was bundled with the phone (same diameter cord, except the DX cord had strain relief & HTC's didn't).

Yeah I've gone through a couple "stock" cables already.. The mini side has starts to come apart so I just swap out with my dad & brother when I see them.
Nooooooooooo! Do not, I repeat, DO NOT ever use dealxtreme! I ordered from them once, quite a bit of problems.1: It took 3 1/2 (Not kidding) months for it to arrive. 2: When the item did arrive, it was a cheap Chinese copy of the actual product, and didnt work. Guys, do yourselves a favour and order it from somewhere else. I wouldn't be suprised if thus guy is the owner of dealxtreme promoting his site.

Same here, same cable that came with ps3, digital cameras and mini camcorders, and prolly a crap load if other things!
I have a ton of these lying around!
Lol I broke the cable to my Mogul I went to sprint store, and told them my update to 6.1 wasn't working (the truth) they said it could be the cable and handed me 2 factory packaged cables! For free.
The problem with the regular cables is that they fall out unless the phone is on an absolutely stable surface. Half the reason I went on my quest to find the right cables was a road trip last month when I tried to use the cable from my old PPC-6700 with the phone laying on the back seat of the car next to me. Every time the car went over a bump, the cable briefly disconnected and I had to re-tether.
Anyway, I'm just pointing out a decent source of something that's just about impossible to buy for a reasonable price at a local retail store in the US (at least, stores like Best Buy, Radio Shack, and CompUSA).
Monoprice.com
ftw!!!:d
Unless you're using the additional Audio I/O connections at the bottom of the connector, there's no real benefit to using an HTC type USB cable over a regular mini-USB cable. I use both without issue.

I actually use the cable from my PS3 because it was long enough to reach the plug and my night stand with a bit of slack.

one six footer for 2.71 shipped to Ohio
Additonals are .98 cents each ... High quality cables, amazing prices, good customer service, what else can you ask for?
For those that care (probably already know) but these are called extUSB cables. Not HTC USB cables (although they are only for, and created by, HTC)
I tried to use one of the cords I have laying around the house (since the cord that came with my Hero pulled apart where the cord goes into the Mini-ExtUSB tip) and it caused my phone to over heat and I tried another one and it worked fine so watch out and make sure that the cord you get is going to be the correct one
Just ordered one from dealxtreme. I'll let you guys know how it is once it comes in.
I've ordered from them before, I get little parts and wires that can't really go too wrong.
wait, so the cable is just a mini usb? we don't need to have one with the funky lil notch on it?

Good Desktop Cradle?

Im looking for a good cradle for my desk. I have found alot online but want on that will not only charge my phone and a spare battery but will give me a audio out as well. I have seen them but never bothered to bookmark them. My bad lol.
So if anyone has any links that would be great.
i honestly dont think they exist. if you need a docking cradle, you got the wrong phone. the iphone woulda been perfect. i just dont think they have cradles with audio outs. ive seen charging cradles for car gps mount and for charging only.

T-Mobile HD2 Cradle by Deluxe

I ordered this one which should be here by today. In the other thread people ordered the cradle for the unlocked version. This cradle is specifically for the T-Mobile USA HD2. It should address the fit problem people were experiencing. Has spare battery slot, audio out (mono ), a DC charge port, and a usb port for syncing.
EDIT-
Well its here and it fits perfectly however I cannot get any syncing action going on. All I can get is charging. Any ideas?
no, i don't think so

Another Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab Car Dock

check out my review. just in case you were in the market for one. i highly recommend it
Samsung announced a few accessories when they launched their Galaxy Tab. I finally had the chance to pick up the Vehicle Mount (aka Car Dock) and take it for a spin. Check out my unboxing and initial impressions of this car dock.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl2Ktb9Skac&feature=player_embedded
Summary:
When I bought the official HTC car dock for my Nexus One I thought to myself, “this is how a car dock should be!”. When I sold it, and started using the Galaxy Tab as my primary device, I new I had to find a car dock with the same precision and quality that the dock for my Nexus One had. I was quite surprised at the exceptional build quality of this car dock. The dock contours to meet the curvature of the Galaxy Tab and it just fits perfectly. The 3.5 mm headphone jack as well as the mic, volume rockers and power buttons are all accessible when docked. The bottom of the dock has the proprietary 30 pin connector that, not only helps secure the device but, allow you to charge it too. Being able to charge the device with the included car charger is a true bonus; one less thing you have to pay for. Once docked, the Tab will automatically go into car mode (not working in the video) and gives you access to quick functions like making a call or doing a quick search. This car dock retails for $69.99 but you can find it as cheap as $45.99 from mobilecityonline.com and its worth every penny. I must say, Samsung really came through with this product and I am excited to try out the rest of the accessories for the Galaxy Tab. Okay enough reading, GO BUY IT NOW! You won’t regret it.
Nice review, thanks! Going to order one ASAP.
I ordered one from the Amazon Marketplace for about 56 w/shipping. Some guy has them listed at full retail on eBay with or best offer. So I typed in a note and a link saying I'd do it for that same price if he could match, only response with no note back was a counter offer for $67... LOL. I guess it's not worth doing business with someone who doesn't even bother to notice what you wrote to them.
I just wish that it was possible to make these in a way that would allow a proper case to be used with the Tab. I have what I think is a very protective case, but because of it, this would not work for me.
Hey, is there enough room with the connector part slid back to insert another connector?
Reason I ask is that this thing would make a nice desktop dock when it wasn't in the car if you could still use the standard USB to 20 pin connector.
I guess you could use that USB to coax cable with the regular AC charger indoors to keep it powered up, but it would be nice to have USB connectivity as well (file transfers, flashing, etc).
Croak: Will have to check but by memory there is not enough room. I will try too look at it when I get back home tognight, the dock is in gf's car.
Really like this car dock by the way !
After looking at it there is def no place to put another connector there
