New UK law on hand held phones… - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

Hi all,
If you have been looking at the UK media you are bound to know that there are now new laws governing the use of mobile phones in your car. Reading further in to this it includes PDA and anyother mobile device(If I have this wrong please correct me, I’m not a solicitor). Can anyone recommend a good car kit for the XDA I? Does any one know where I can get one fitted?
Check out the BBC news website if you want a brake down of the new laws.
Gil.

if it's a law about you can't speak into a handheld device while driving a car then i suppose a thing like this is what you need

home made car kit incl. the possibilty for gps?

Hi everybody!
Well, it has good and bad effects to life in a poorer country. I bought a xda over ebay and imported it into Hungary where I work and life. I tried to get some kind of a holder for my car....none.
I tried to get a car cit (handsfree kit with no cable for the headset etc, which even offers the possibilty to connect a gps) ...none
I tried to find someone to build me one....full hit!
If anyone can get hold of the plans + maybe some parts, I will have the guy who does the moldering for realy low money. As far as I know there are plans flying arround how to do it but I could not get hold of them. Further I was also not able to get some parts I think one needs for this.
If we take this all and make a circle out of this there is a cheap working solution, my only trouble is I have trpoubles with the parts and plans.
If you can help me we could produce this cheap and everyone can participate.
What do you guzs think about this?
Maybe I look right now as a cut off, being new here but I am not. I run a company here for several years. Being a newbie in something does not mean to have bad ideas.
Flame me, throw things on me or give me bad names, I dont mind. But I believe there more people out there which would like this question solved but do not have the abillities to do it themselves.
Hi hungarian,
I've the same problems but I've found two companies who build special cables or where you can buy plugs with or without open cables. I think the best one is in Germany:
http://www.gpskabel.de/shop/
I've wrote him today and wait for an answer.
or here:

and in USA:

Please email to me directly to [email protected] for further communication. B.T.W. I was born in East Germany and we will never forget the year 1989 ;-)

T-Mobile won't give any support re 4 in 1 cable

Heya,
I've been trying to ask some one in T-mobile tech support about why usb hosting doesnt seem to work with my Ameo ( i bought the 4 in 1 cable from expansys ) and after getting a few i dunno's they passed it up the chain to their tech support.
The voice mail i got from them went like, oh so i hear you want to plug your usb flash drive into your phone, well usb needs to have a master and slave device and computers are usb masters and flash drives are slave devices, and well so is your phone so you cant plug them in together, and even if you did well a phone cant have all the drivers needed for all those different usb drives, so no it cant do it.
I rang back to query that, and they wouldnt put me through. Seeing I'm a fellow t-mobile staff member and all, i thought it wasn't a very good effort.
Has any one else had any issues with T-mobile and their understanding of the Ameo?
edit... (toned down my rant)
*end rant* on the flip side of it iv'e had amamazingly good help from technical support regarding other issues with Vario's etc. i just found it a little strange some one wasn't as awear of the capabilities of the device as i wuld have hoped.
USB sticks on a T-Mobile Ameo
Hi,
I have the HTC 4 in 1 cable for the T-Mobile Ameo (HTC Advantage 7500) and the ability to access a USB thumbdrive or stick appears to depend on the device.
The following devices worked without a hitch:
- Kingston DataTraveler 1GB
- Q motion 1 GB
- SanDisk MobileMate SD+ (This a SD card reader in a USB stick format, very handy to coy data from a SD/miniSD/microSD card to your 7500 without going through Activesync)
Another noname USB stick that I have did not work.
So the trick is to find a low powered USB stick.
The response from T-Mobile is the typical CYA (cover your ...) answer of let's first say that it's not possible so that we don't have to be bothered with researching what is possible.
Cheers,
Tim

I bought the Sandisk SD+ and tried to connect to the 4-1 cable USB port... I could not find my inserted SD card anywhere in the X7500. How and where can you see your files on the SD card??? Please help!
Are you running WM6?
You cannot blame T-Mobile for this: The 4-in-1 is an optional extra which has no bearing on the out-of-box functionality of the device.
T-Mobile neither PRODUCE NOR SELL the 4-in-1 cable. For this reason you cannot expect them to help you with it unless you're lucky enough to get someone on the line at C.S. who has one. Sure they sell the device, but they only need to know enough to get over customer connection and software issues.
It's a bit like me ringing Dell and asking them to help me with my computer desk.
Try Expansys or HTC themselves, you'll get nowhere with your network provider.

Agree with leoni's argument, unless you bought the 4 in 1 cable from T-mobile, they should not be made to support it.

LOL. I would always agree with you when you talk sense.
Personally I have found T-Mobile UK's suport for the Ameo to be total pants... remember it was no more than a month or two ago that they said (and i copied their email to me onto this forum) that there will be 'NO WM6 UPDATE FOR THE AMEO AS IT WORKS PERFECTLY WELL WITH WM5' - then they change their mind (or simply didnt realise it was coming out).
If as a company you are going to stock a convergence device (let's face it the Ameo is certainly no phone - it's a very good PDA that happens to have phone functionality!) they should be able to suport all it's features - especially if the support needed involves an OFFICIAL accessory manufactured by the maker of the device! At the very least they should be able to point you in the right direction for support, plus they shoudl never LIE which is basically what they did above - the device DOES suport host usb - and they just said 'a PC can but a phone can't' - what bull that is! It clearly shows they do not know what they are talking about and should not be on second line support!
Agreed!

Especially since HTC will not support a T-Mobile branded device. They just tell you to go to.... T-Mobile, as it's an Ameo, not an Athena!
This is ridiculous. If you have any experience of customer services you will realise that it is hit and miss. There is no customer services department in the world that's perfect: they all have trainees and incompetent staff lurking somewhere. This problem is not exclusive to T-Mobile, but in this situation I wouldn't have expected ANYONE to have the information you sought.
The 4-in-1 cable is an accessory. It might well be official but it is NOT SUPPLIED WITH THE PHONE, nor sold by T-Mobile. Even the best company in the world does not have every detail about everything that can be bought for every product they sell.
Your arguments are absurd and make you seem like the sort of person who just likes to moan about corporations, despite that fact that you are in the full knowledge of where to find help and information about a product.
I bought the 4-in-1 myself from Expansys, had I had any problems with it my first port of call would have been google or HERE followed by Expansys - I really can't understand what possessed you to try and glean information from your network supplier about an accessory you hadn't even bought from them.
And then posted a thread moaning about them.

Dude, if HTC won't support it because it'sa a T-Mobile BRANDED device, who else are you going to turn to? T-Moibile. When they bought the device from HTC and sold it as their own, they also bought the responsibility to support it...
A Jaguar X-type is a Ford Mondeo... Ford won't fix it if it breaks, though - they'll tell you to go to Jaguar!

Intrinsically Safe

Does HTC make a PDA that is Intrinsically safe. I really love the HTC Kaiser that i have. However I am looking for a device that I can carry into a Class I Division II Hazardous Environment. If there is a device that HTC makes please let me know. Or if anyone knows how to make one of their devices Intrinsically Safe for use in a Offshore Gas and Oil Industry Environment.
Thanks For any Help.
We use intrinsically safe PDAs at work, had a quick look and there are ex phones out there but havent seen anything like a kaiser.
http://www.atexshop.com/atex-mobile-phones-c-4.html?zenid=dat1sviqv9s1rm009lo87fmst3
It doesn't have to be a kaiser. my company is looking for a PDA / Phone that we can purchase for under $1,000.00 U.S. so we can order about 150 of them. Everything that I am finding that is available is way over that cost. If the device you are using is within that cost please send me some more info. Or if you know of any of the HTC products would be I-Safe. Thanks for all your help

What to do with a lost then found O2 XDA Ignito?

Hi there,
As the title suggests, I lost my XDA Ignito, claimed on my insurance, and then 2 weeks later found the original one (behind the sofa, battery had come out...).
So my question is: what can I do with it? If anything at all?!
I'm not looking to scam anyone (just in case anyone is going to get on their moral high horse about this), but at the moment it's just a lump of plastic and electronics, and surely it could be put to some use?
Could I use it as a second phone? Or should it just become a very expensive paper weight?
It does work (ie turn on), but I haven't put a sim in to try it.
Anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
HPJ
Did you report as lost to your network?
If you did the IMEI will be blocked, so you wouldn't be able to use it as a phone, however the Diamond/Ignito has a lot more features than just a phone:you could use it as a GPS device or a WiFi net tablet.
If you have not reported it to your Network provider then the phone function might still work. Although the insurance company might have listed on the stolen phone database. I believe the database is called CheckMEND .
But however legally it is now property of the insurance company so don't do anything stupid like register it for insurance or take it to service centre.
Hope I was helpful,
Yes you were helpful, thank you. And apologies for the late reply - I was not subscribed to receive notifications of any replies.
Ok, so I basically have a Diamond I can use for Sat Nav / Music and whatever else. Seeing as I now have a new phone (moved to iphone and very very happy!), I guess the old Ignito will sit around gathering dust.
Cheers
HPJ
