I have the Wizard (cingular 8125) and am interested in running the newest version of Windows Mobile.
My question is this. When it does become available, is this a free upgrade or something that you will have to purchase. I'm still somewhat new to the windows mobile os, where I was recently using Palm.
I also understand that the difference between reuglar and pro will be that pro is for touch screen phones (pocket pc). Am I correct?
Is anyone using the wizard and have the pro version working correctly? I'd love to try this out - [email protected]

Whether or not you'll be able to "officially" upgrade to windows mobile 6 is up to your carrier. More than likely they won't release it for exsisting devices. Yes the pro version will be for pocket pc devices. There are several people running unofficial versions of wm6 and seem to be having some success with however it usally takes a good deal of tweaking to get it to work the way you want it to. Doing a quick search through the forum and wiki should help you out alot.

As most of you people know, the next version of Windows Mobile will be probally version 6.5 ...
My question is: what if microsoft releases this version, are we able to download it for free through our mobile with windows update?
Or will we have to pay for a new version?
This is my first time windows mobile, so i'm not sure about windows mobile updates, how things work.
Could someone explain me?
And P.S.: In februari the world mobile congress is there. Any change 6.5 will be released around that time?
Some of the "big" fabricators gave out (free) updates from WM5 to WM6, so the chance that there will be updates from 6.1 to 6.5 (or 7) is imho pretty good.
Maybe they will give an opportunity to update via HTC site however usually they only support the newest devices so maybe they'll realese WM 6.5 for Diamond but I'm not sure about 7 But propably if it won't use Multitouch or something like that I think somebody will port it

Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't give ROM updates to end users... that's up to network operators or OEM's (original equipment manufacturers - HTC for example). I've been using Windows Mobile devices for nearly 10 years now, and my experience tells me, as far as WM6.5 is concerned, we have 'little' chance of an official update for the Diamond - WM7 'no' chance!
However, these wizards here at XDA will give us the ROM's in one form or another, so don't hold your breath for genuine ROM updates of any significance!!

Agreed, HTC did that before
The official updates from HTC or the operators usually take some time to be made available. The unofficial updates though come much quicker at this wonderful XDA forum here.
We may get 6.5 but 7.0 i don't think so because of the hardware limitations maybe for the CDMA version because has a better configuration

you can only use bb connect software not the entire os

i think he is talking about the full BB suite not just BBC. my understanding that this is not released yet. it was demonstrated on the raphael a couple of months ago

So far the only thing we have managed to get 'working' is BBConnect (i've had it running stable for a few weeks now).

no news or updates for almost 4 months. i wouldnt be surprised if they cancel it or released it in a crippled form. hope im wrong though. having access to all BB MDS services and software should be cool
Hi everyone.I'm really new to this posting, but i have a major problem.I got myself a prototype of the xperia x2.It wasn't working very smooth so i did a hard reset(total wipeout).and now windows mobile 6.5 is working but no camera no nothing,no panels.so the drivers are missing.If anyone has an idea or could help me somehow please do.thank you.
There are no Xperia 2 ROM dumps available yet.
May I ask how you got your prototype?
You may have to go back to the source to get it straightened out.
X2 won't be out too soon, i guess. X1 needed also around 10 months from its announcement to its release.
Well, here in Germany some people think that it will be out with the launch of WM6.5, but this cannot be true. 6.5 comes in October and X2 isn't even listed at Amazon, yet.
I'm using the phone now it's working well,with WM 6.5,only problem is camera working only with a program(camera key not working)but everything(wifi,gps,etc)working.I'm so sorry about the hard reset it had panels and everything.I don't know, guess i'll be waiting until someone dumps a rom that i can usecan't do nothing yet.thank you anyway.AA and Xperia X2 is ok,but battery could be better (this is a prototype) so we'll see if the official version will last longer.

Note: People that have had the X1 prototype have had problem to flash them with final ROM.
Can someone walk this guy through making a ROM dump? I think we would all benefit from this, and maybe even fix some of his issues.
if he sells it to me, i will dump the rom and upload it as soon as possible...

This is not true. I have had 4 different prototypes of X1i and all have updated with offical rom without any problems. I've got one till now (almost one year now).

Is there any flash browser's out yet for wp7 ie: Skyfire before they dropped winmo (twats).
I used uzard for a bit on 6.5 but was nowhere near as good as skyfire.
Also will myplayer be released for wp7 as that was another great app on hd2 6.5.

will this update kill chevron etc on hd2 or will hd2 users be able to update without fear of bricking or blocking wp7 on hd2.
if hd2 will be fine after update i can't wait for february.
i miss live streaming, tvcatchup & myplayer.

nobody knows if you can brick or block your device with the upcoming update...i think its no problem to update, many others think different.

I'm with you on this one.
Think about it people, there are many different models from different hardware vendors, Microsoft won't be stupid enough to touch individual drivers used to run hardware, they will only update the software on top (the one we are already using) so I believe it will work just fine.
That is unless they've teamed up with HTC and decided to change the device identification system and ban a couple of thousand HD2 users. Not a likely scenario as it would simply be too much hassle (work).
Cotulla and Bepe tweaked and rewrote drivers to get the HD7 able to run WP7. We are also spoofing our devices to appear as HD7s to MS. If we do get a pushed update, and that update replaces any of those tweaked drivers, our devices will stop functioning or have broken functionality...
The HD7 is similar to the HD2, but it's not the same device with a different OS.
i believe it wont brick ur device.. cuz microsoft cant even detect that u are using hd2.. even the hd2 think that he is hd7.. lol.. unless u already said that u are using hd2 when asking for genuine key to access live service!! but i guess they will only block the key.. they wont brick it >.<

I didn't mention bricking...
We have a modified image that allows usage of the HD2 Wifi, GPS, Display, BT, Touchscreen, etc. It is not a stock HD7 ROM. If/when MS makes the update available, if it touches those tweaked drivers, it will likely break that functionality on the HD2.
We will need a new image rolled from the new source, if it does touch the tweaked drivers. You can't load any HTC WP7 build on the HD2, and expect it to work. It has to be specific to the device. We do not have a HD7, but we trick MS into thinking we have a HD7 for the purpose of making applications work (not drivers).

As I said before, HD7 is NOT the ONLY windows phone 7 smartphone. Why would an OS update touch any drivers? Different phones use different chips and components and require different drivers so Microsoft would have to use a LOT of resources to cover all (or most) of the phones and each model would get a different SW update.

Name a multi-hardware phone OS that has ever released a substantial one-size-fits-all OS update before, please. They get rolled out by device. There's a reason for that. The device manufacturers need to validate that the update doesn't cause problems for each of their devices.
Do you really think all Bepe and Cotulla did was to get WP7 to boot, and everything was hunky dory, and it will never need further optimization?
Is flash for WP7 available ?

It will definetly not work, in other threads there are a lot of people trying to update to the 7008 version (smaller update not NoDo).
The result is that it don't works.
The device don't takes any damage, there is only a registry error what appears what tells you that the device wasn't updated. That's all.
NO Damage, No Blocking etc...
Feel fry to try it but I can guarantee you that it will definetly not work.
As conclusion mostly people think that the update checks the phones registry and if the hardware is not EXACTLY the same as the HD7, then the update will not be made.
It's anyhow a small update what only prepares the updating software of WP7 to get ready for better receiving future updates.
as he said, when you'll try the update, it will simply stop with an error result stating that the integrity of your registry has been altered. So I guess that only if Cotulla comes with a new base rom that includes the preNoDo and future updates, you will all get stuck with a truncated 7004 build.
