I want to keep all the O2 stuffs intact, is it possible to update only the CE and Radio ROM but not the extended ROM? I know the procedures I think, and I just need to delete ms_.nbf before running BaUpgradeUt? Will my O2 extended ROM stays intact this way?
How much better is 1.06.2 Radio ROM better than 1.02? Is it worth the update?
And after the update, I should just restore DATA but not full restore right?? Also, do I have to disable ActiveSyn before the update? If so, how?
Sorry about so many questions
Think ur ext rom will be blank this way

My answer to your question would be
Unhide the extened rom as is
unlock extenedrom as is now
make a copy of it as in on your desktop
do the normal upgrade
unlock/unhide the new extended rom
delete the content
copy from the destop your old extenedrom
lock/hide the exteneded rom again
do a cold reset.
this will boot the device, reinstall the os and radio and install the old extenedrom.
Do I think that that is a good idea, NO!! but that is what you want to do.
You need to undersatnd that some of the stuff on extened rom is for the new upgrade such as the patches.
So ... not that you asked ... I think what you want to do is swap only some of the files. but do you know which ones?
Read the bit on unllocking the Imate extenede rom
Read the bit about changing boot imaages.
Think about what you realy wont to do and have fun.

but it's not true. I've done that and your Extended ROM is not deleted
so:
1. You chose the ROM you want to use it (and you use xda3nbftool.exe if the ROM comes from another operator than yours)
2. Before launching the ROM installer "BaUpgradeUt.exe", you remove the Extended ROM package which is call "ms_.nbf"
and you update your ROM normally
Only the CE ROM and Radio will be upgraded. Your Blue Angel will keep your old Extended ROM.
And remember: If the ROM you have chosen comes in a package like BA_WWE_BelDT_12200_557_10602_SHIP.exe, you can open the ifile with WinRAR to extract its contents.

Yup its simple and it works.
Now a real qestion for you based on you own knowleage.
Is there any way to add a Romkitchen Exteneded rom to the upgrade?
We seem to have know tools for this er2003edit does not work for me on the blueangle.
I have not been able to find any way of extracting splash screens but am able to replacing then (which is great but I dont have the original splashes)
Things are not only you know, your ways are not always the best.

Being in Portugal I don't need tmobile mms and gprs settings. In one wrod: I don't want T-Mobile ext.Rom. I have already installed the Qtek 1.6.7 Rom. The splash screen is T-Mobile (?) but OS rom is Qtek and extended rom is T-Mobile.
Do you know any way to simply don't let the MDA vario install the extended rom?
Thank you
yes i know one! just delete the Extended ROM files wich you dont need! first install the tools that make it visible and then read in other threads wich cab data is for what! you can stop configuring the default settings and installing the T-Mobile progs by softresetting after Hardreseting when appears a window "configuring Settings in 3 sec." or so!? just soft reset and then install the requiered .cab files of the Extended ROM you wish to have installed! But better read through the other threads if you need detailed informatoins how to do this!! (the thread is hmmm I think Extended ROM or so)

It depends on your ROM. Most of them except New T-mobile ROM can use extROM unlocker. For T-Mobile ROM you need to backup ext. ROM which you prefer first. After flash new ROM(T-Mobile) , you need to restore it. Please serch in this forum for wizard ROM backup/restore and unlock/lock Ext. ROm. Good luck
Many users have been requesting the ROM for the production MDA's. I tried to upload it to the XDA-Developers FTP site but I could not upload it to the T-Mobile ROM directory so if a moderator can download this from the link I provided and move it to the FTP server for long term access.
Specs are as follows:
ROM Version 1.8.10.2 WWE
ROM Date 12/10/05
Radio Version 01.09.10
Protocol Version 4.0.13.20
This does not include the Extended ROM as that is already provided in the link below as this is where this request for the full rom was initiated.
http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=efbcdfc90bfae88ed9ac9ec8fcda5cc6
Scroll to the bottom of the page once you go to the megashares link and you will see the Download Now link.
If you need the Extended ROM follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41348
Question - you can't just flash back the extended ROM, right?
Yes but it is not the same procedure as backing up or writing a new ROM as you need a utility which I mention below. What you need to do is first "Unlock/Unhide" the hidden Extended ROM partition on your MDA. Once you do this you can see the extended ROM files which are posted in the link above. (There is a utility called Unlock Ext Rom Wizard.cab) on the XDA FTP server. You copy this to your MDA and click on it and it should unlock the parition/folder. After running it I would do a soft reset.
You can then use ActiveSync's Remote File Explorer Utility to move the files around as you will see the new partition when you select change folder.
Basically you copy your original extended ROM files to a safe location for backup and then delete all the files in the extended ROM directory. Copy the Extended ROM files that you downloaded into the Extended ROM directory and once you do a hard reset it will automatically install the new files when it boots up.
Ah, ok... thanks - I don't see the unlock tool for the Extended ROM though....
Nevermind... found it.
any changes, improvements or modifications worthy of mentioning in this ROM?
thanks,
How do you change the boot screen. I only see the ability to restore the radio and OS...

My Extended Rom is writable, but is still hidden. I think it may be due to the fact that I used aWizard 1.3b2 (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386) to remove the CID lock from my phone and change the splash screen. I then also patched my radio to 01.13.10.
Can the original poster explain how to restore the T-Mobile ROM? The utility that is in the folder did the CID unlock on my phone and all that successfully, but when I do option "w" (write OS ROM to device), it doesn't "find" the T-Mo ROM right there in the folder. I don't get it. =(

When disabling Flight Mode, the original radio took about 30 to 45 seconds to get a signal. The new radio takes closer to 2 minutes. However, the new radio gets 3 bars of signal in places the old radio only got 1. I consider a reasonable tradeoff, as I don't use Flight Mode very often.

I had that initial problem myself. I had to copy it to my C:\Flash since it didn't seem to work correctly off my g: drive under a few folders deep. I looked at the .cmd (batch) file at what it does is do a dir /s (directory listing including looking under subfolders) for *.nba files looking for radio or os in the filename. If you do not see a number then it is not finding the .nba files. When it does find them you will see the name of the rom file preceeded by a number. I would do what I did with the directories and if that doesn't work copy the .nba files into the root folder of the .cmd file folder.
i try to restore the rom with this flash.. the version on my phone is
rom : 1.8.10.2 WWE
rom date : 12/10/05
radio version 01.04.10
protocol version: 4.0.13.17
extrom version: 1.8.10.104
Hello,

Here's my take:
1. Sometimes. You have to understand what you have before you download. Each string of posts generally refers to different ROMs. Until lately, the ROMs were the whole package (bootloader, Core OS, Phone and Ext ROM). Most folks want the latest OS possible, but want the phone part from an older ROM, so in some cases the phone part of the ROM has been split out as a separate installation. In other cases, Ext ROMs have been undated and distributed by themselves.
2. Depends on what ROM you've got. If you have the all-in-one type, everything gets wiped out and upgraded. Even if you do a backup, chances are its no good because the backup was for the old OS and is incompatible with the new OS. If you install just a phone or Ext ROM, the core OS and all your settings SHOULD be left alone. However just this week some goob couldn't run the right files in the Phone upgrade and nearly bricked his phone, then pissed all over the other guy trying to help...(reference the Great KeithT Rant of '06)
3. Assume you're talking about upgrading the Core OS and leaving the Ext ROM as is. Don't know of a way to do this--it hasn't been mentioned as a possibility in the Wizard upgrade forum in the past few months AFAIK. I think this is highly unlikely anyway, as the Core OS ROM is really in charge of everything. You'll want the match the Ext ROM with whatever Cell provider you have, and there are more than enough all-in-one ROMs to suit nearly every carrier. I'd suggest searching: "T-Mobile ROM upgrade" or whatever provider you have to get a Core OS/Phone/ExtROM all together.
4. Many applications are included in the Core OS ROM, like pocket Word, Excel, mail, etc. I think MSN is included in the Ext ROM, but not sure. Anyway, just got to try it and find out!
5. This is a little tougher. I recommend the latest Core OS matched with an Ext ROM for your cell provider. There is some debate over the best phone ROMs (see recent posts in this forum) depending on the towers in your area. Note, the latest Core OS doesn't necessarily have the highest version number. Someone leaked a Cingular ROM v2.25, then another TMo ROM v2.24 was actually a later build. Diff providers have different numbering schemes.
Good luck, read a bunch, and feel a little comfortable with what you're doing before you leap. Lots of folks here will help if you get in trouble, but be expected not have your head up your arse before asking for help!
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my radio rom. At first everything seems fine but after the upgrade process is at about 30%, I get error no. 114. I think that maybe a part of my rom is broken, so I'd like to change the allocation of my roms. I'd like to have the extented rom part as new radio rom and vice versa.
Is that possible? If yes, how is it done?
thx for your help
PECK
sorry to disappoint you, but no, that is not possible.
start the other way around, do not try to bypass a problem by creating a new one, try solving the problem first. why would the radio rom abort in the middle of the upgrade process?
- do you use the right upgrade tools?
- do you use the right radio rom?
- did you take care of everything else there is about upgrading a rom (bootloader, active sync kill...)?
- are you able to flash another os rom?
...whatever comes to mind when flashing roms, because this problem will not be any different after all.
@ chef_tony:
I've no problem with upgrading the OS or the extented rom! thats why i think that maybe the flash chip is broken!
I tried many different upgrading tools, even one of yours!
I don't know the current language id of my device! Originally it was a german XDA III! How can I check the current language id and how can I change it? is it possible that I have this problem because of a wrong language id?
thx in advance
PECK
i would guess it couldn't have anything to do with the country id, error 114 is radio rom update error.
btw, you get to see the inofficial country id everytime you soft reset the device, and in the bottom right corner it says something like WWE, or GER, for instance. or, when you connect the device and run getdevicedata.exe from the ruu folder, which is done before the upgrade, to show you the "from:" and "to:" numbers.
but: i just got another idea.
do you actually take out the sim card, before trying to upgrade the radio?
is your device sim unlocked?
have you played around with different bluetooth stacks?
have you performed a hard reset before trying to upgrade the radio?
have you tried upgrading the radio from the stock o2 rom wm2003?
ok, that was more than one idea, and downgrading seems like a lot of work, but it is worth a shot. if you spend days flashing (or trying to) over and over again anyways, you might as well try that, would mean 2 extra upgrading sessions, but what is that, like an hour?
oh, and what radio rom does the device have now, stock? or is it a newer one already?
and why do you think you need to upgrade the radio rom anyways? phone not working, maybe the problems lie deeper and that could be why the upgrade process can't work in the first place!
"don't confuse an original symptom with the sickness from the drugs we gave him" as dr. house, would say
hi,
the device is unlocked! there was no sim card inserted during the upgrade; i just tryed with one but I get the same error at 32% progress...
it doesn't work with the original rom, also!
it would be fine if the stock rom was installed, but unfortunately i don't have installed any radio rom whatsoever!
windows mobile device information says that i don't have a radio rom and no protocol installed!
oh, for pete's sake, i'm sorry.
when i asked you about the sim card being inserted, i thought of taking the card out, if you hadn't done before, should have written that. many people have problems when having a sim card or sd card inserted, i didn't want to suggest to put one in! that can never do good, either nothing happens or it gets worse, i really shouldn't have forgotten that.
it doesn't work with the original rom, also!

yeah, but does the stock rom itself work? i mean, the stock rom is a so called baked rom, meaning it contains a rom, an extrom and a radio rom, while the cooked roms here only contain the actual rom, so the os. i mean, you could try and extract the radio from the stock rom and try and flash that. it would give you a radio back! or if that doesn't work either, try flashing the entire stock rom, if that works without problems and then you'd have a radio, it means that your issue is too strange to think about, but still you can delete the extrom again and flash another rom without harming the original radio.
wouldn't that be a step forward?
btw. what radio rom are you trying to flash?
if it is just one, you try over and over, are you absolutely certain, this is for the BA? which version is it? what was the original file name of the exe? where did you get it? have you tried re-downloading it, maybe the file is really broken!
hi,
i tryed many different rom versions, and i'm pretty sure they are for the blueangel!
do you know, where i can get a cooked rom for my xda 3?
first, to be clear about that, as mentioned before, cooked roms consist only of the operating system itself and contain neither a radio rom nor an extrom. so about every rom offered here is a cooked rom. but that won't solve your problem, since, as mentioned, there is no radio included. that is why i suggested for you to try the original radio from the shipped rom, and then the entire shipped rom, to determine, whether the radio rom flashes, when it comes after an nk.nbf rom, which would mean, that from now on, you'd have to "bake" roms yourself, by taking cooked roms and adding the radio, so to not lose it. when you can actually flash wm2003 you can also try flashing other radios with the original BAupgradeut, because in contrast to os roms, there should be no limitations to the radio roms, as far as i know.

I just got a used xperia and i want everything back to original.
it has been hard spl which i think is preventing me from being able to update using ericsson update service.
It also has touch-it xperiance, which i effectively removed from the today menu, but the remnants of it are everywhere. I think its from the manila hd cab but im not sure.
the dialer is still tf3d, so are the notifications, as well as comm manager and im not sure what else
i dont want to hard reset because of all the other settings i put on widows mobile
i guess i probably need to remove tf3d and its cronies, re establish the original xperia user interface (touch-it xperiance 6.1 still shows up on startup), and put in the original spl which i can kind of figure out from previous threads but i need help with tf3d cause i dont want to screw up my phone!!!
thank you....

Please look around in this subforum or use the search. I think you're the third person in two weeks who asks this question.
To help answer your question:
If you can connect to SE update service and update from there, you will flash the latest official rom. That means that all stuff on the device (not on the sd-card) will be gone anyway. You can do a hard reset, which has the same effect but will restore the rom that was last flashed.
If you want to use an official rom, you have to flash stock spl. You can find that in the hard-spl thread (one of the sticky topics in the top of this forum).
Another way to obtain an official rom is to look in the rom library (also a sticky in this subforum), and look for the R3A rom you want. You probably want one with a specific language and maybe even a provider. Just look around in the R3A rom list to see which suits you best.
having the touch it xperience means you do not hav a stock rom
so you must flash a stock rom if you want it stock
look in the official rom thread, don't waste your time with SE update!
also if you flash a rom you must hard-reset anyway!
To go back to original, you need to follow these steps:
1) Download the stock rom for your country from the same forum, usually it's the Generic_UK.
2) Flash this stock rom to your mobile (this will clear all your settings and remove all data). IMPORTANT: Before doing this step, download PPCPIMBackup tool and backup all your data using this tool.
Additionally, you may have to restore your stock radio(not FM radio) BEFORE proceeding to Step 3 if it has been modified, search the forum on how to identify and do this.
3) Download the Hardspl utility and the stock rom's "ruu_signed.nbh". You'll find both in the Hardspl sticky post here. Connect your phone and run Hardspl, but before clicking "Next" in the first step, replace the "ruu_signed.nbh" in Hardspl's folder with the stock one you downloaded. Now continue hardspl and your stock SPL will be restored. IMPORTANT: Make sure you don't have a file named "Kovsimg.nbh" in your memory card before you do this or else it may not work.
Now you're done restoring everything to original. If you just want the stock OS, but wanna keep the hard spl for later modification to rom then you can skip Step 3. But unless you do Step 3, you will not be able to use the SE update service and any remaining warranty you have is still void.
NOTE: Make sure you restore stock OS and stock radio(not FM radio) before stock SPL, that is do Step2 before Step3.
Summary of things you need:
1) PPCPIMBackup tool to backup all your data.
2) Stock ROM(OS) for your mobile, additionaly the stock radio.
3) Hardspl utility and the stock spl file - you can skip this if not needed.
stock radio is included with stock roms!

Glad it helped you. When I first came to this forum, I was confused too. Then I figured it out. Well.. I think the radio here refers to the transmitter. Radios might differ based on country as different countries have different bands on which the mobile operators work. I think the radio referred here is just the driver file which makes the transmitter in the phone work.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I searched but never found any topic that explains what an xperia radio is. I'm assuming what I thought is correct.

To further clarify, it's the PHONE transmitter, the one that lets you call and send messages and go on the internet. It is not an FM transmitter or receiver.
