Hello; slightly off tpoic here but I do use an XDAII for my GPS...
Doeas anyone know where tomtom 3 stores the list of favourites - I would like to back it up every now and again sdo I don't lose then when I hard reset.
Any help much appreciated.
TT stores your favourites in a cfg file stored in the
\MyDocuments\TomTom Navigator Settings\ directory.
One file for each map.
Aha- that's where they live! thanks very much.

I'm not taking credit for this, as it was other people on this board that showed me the right direction. I'm just making a post with a working version as I have yet to see one yet.
I have an AT&T tilt. This is with the ROM that comes with it. not cooked.
Make sure that you have deleted any other version of TomTom from your Tilt. Make sure you have deleted any old maps and map directories "\Storage Card\My Documents\"
1) Copy the cab over to your card
2) Run the cab
3) Copy your maps over to "\Storage Card\My Documents\". Mine were saved on my computer and called USA_and_Canada_v.675.1409.zip , make sure you are paying Tomtom because stealing is wrong.
4) Run TomTom
5) Go to Change Preferences|Show GPS status|Configure
6) Make sure the selected GPS receiver is "Built-in GPS receiver"
that's it. It should work from then on.

If you are using a non tilt rom, i'd try the cab install that comes with the htc. this one is for the tilt ROM
what version of tomtom is this?
The version number is 6
Can you download the maps?
I don't mind paying for the activation code, I just want to able to download and pay whatever it costs to avtivate the service from TomTom.
Buy Maps online?
Yes! Download and install Tomtom Home to your PC, then click on the link "buy the latest maps" It will show you all the maps available. Note: the price is in Euro and a single, cheapest map is 39.95 Euro. They have USA regional maps (New England_Mid Atlantics, Plains, etc) each cost 59.95 Euro. Hence, it is expensive to buy map online.
Kireol,
Thank you very much! I've been trying to move my maps out of the root of my 4G card for weeks!
I just wanted to say thanks for helping me finally get tomtom on to my tilt. I had been trying for three days and couldnt get it to work. Finally got it to work. Dont know what I was doing wrong but it work. Just followed the instructions and it went like a charm. Maybe I was tired. Thanks a bunch
If you want to add the standard TomTom Voices to your Kaiser after installing this all you need to do is Download & install TomTomHOME from TomTom's website. It will allow you to download and install all of the standard voices.
yup Kyphur is right. also, if you download some free ones, you can just copy them to your \Storage Card\Voices directory.
Here's a site with a bunch of free TomTom voices (I'm using John Kleese):
http://gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/links/index.php
Follow the free voices sticky.
Also:
The cab from page 1 on this thread works just perfectly on my Tilt flashed with the TyTN II ROM. As part of the installation, you can also download a free city map to play with. It automatically detects the Kaiser builtin GPS.
Very cool software.
I have the AT&T Tilt (Kaiser). When I select the GPS, it does not show the built in GPS. How do I get it to show the built in GPS. I have the TT MKii external one, but if I could use the built in one, it would be even better. Thanks!
I just set it up before seeing this thread and mine didnt say "internal GPS" but only one of the options was not for a bluetooth gps, so I choose that, and it asked me what com port to use, I said Com 4, and it worked fine. I am using AT&T Rom.
But, I would really like to clean up my Memory Card also, so now I gotta see if I can get all the tomtom files into a folder instead of the root of the memory card.
That worked! Thanks! Now I don't have to carry my external TT GPS around...
U R the man!!!!!!

kireol,
You are the man!!! I've been fooling with this #@%# thing off and on all day. I've been through countless threads and numerus cab files with all negative results.
After reading your post I tried that cab and it worked fantastic. I picked up 4 satellites sitting in the house and 7 when I went outdoors. I had already tried 6.01 with the US maps to no avail. I just installed your cab without uninstalling and everything worked great.
Thank you so much!!!!! Just wish I'd found your post this morning.
Wow! Very nice!
Thanks Man...
I'm going to get me some maps now...
no problem guys
sometimes I think this post should be stickied heh. even i forget about it
I just got another Tom Tom Map. I had a previous one that was given as a free download. I placed the new map in the same folder. But when I start Tom Tom and go to change maps I do not see it. All I see is the original map. Where exactly should I be placing this new map? What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. TIA
Anyone Anyone?
Hi there,
Place each indvidual map folder under My Documents on Storage card. Each map must have its own folder eg. IBERIA, SOUTHERN AFRICA, etc etc. Then TomTom will pick up the new map.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
MAC
I have had both TomTom 6 & 7 running on my Kaiser and in both cases the maps were stored in folders off the root on the storage card - e.g \United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_Vxxx.xxxx\

what i did is i actually just loaded the Map folder to my Storage card. clicked and dragged and it works like a charm. also when i set up my TT7 i installed it to my storage card instead of the device (i dont know if that makes a diff) but it seems to save my settings alot better when i am flashing my rom. so i dont need to reset my home address or anything
I found that most of my map folders end in the text ....MAP i.e.
Australia_Map
Great_Britain_ Major Roads_of Europe_Map
Deutschland_Map
etc.
All in the root directory of the SD card.
Hi guys. I've got an MDA Compact IV and got it upgraded to a Diamond. But lost the 2577 folder and with it the icon for Copilot 7. It means that everytime I want to use Copilot 7 I have to go to File Explorer and Internal Storage. Does anybody have a .cab or something to help me with this? It would be very much apreciated.
PS: If I do a hard reset, would all the settings go back to what they were in the MDA Compact IV? Anyway, I like the Diamond look much better and would only go back if I could save the 2577 folder - and would immediately retreat back to the good looks and better funcionality of the Diamond.
Can you just recreate the shortcut to the Copilot executable? I'm not sure what you mean by "2577 folder".
2577 is the name of the autostart folder. several programs use it on storage cards, like igo, and garmin and a bunch of others.

Exactly! When I upgraded from T-Mobile to Manila the 2577 folder vanished from my mobile, apparently because it was in the device instead of the Internal Storage, where all the Copilot 7 maps are. And I need it now so that I can start Copilot 7 without having to access the Internal Storage first and look for the GPS before using it. The only way to have a Copilot icon at the Start button is by "pulling it" from the infamous 2577 folder. Does anybody have it in the form of a .cab? Can it be copied from one mobile and used in another? Help please.

I have managed to get TomTom 7 working by putting the maps in the 'my documents' folder, but I have a problem with the dowloaded POI's.
They install from TomTom Home ok, but they do not appear on the Diamond.
I have no trouble installing voices from the Home.
Another problem is that the safety cameas do not show up on the map..but they appear when driving.
Can anyone tell me the folders each thing should be put into...e.g. safety cameras, poi's, voices etc, also some files are TLV, and some are TOC...which ones should they be?
Many thanks
POI's: place "yourPOI's.ov" and "yourPOI's.bmp" inside the map folder.
Voices: place voice file "data##.CHK" and "data##.BMP" in folder Voices.
I don't have safety camera original available from tomtom so I don't know about it; but I have some red light camera file save as POIs. If this is your case, it should be treated as normal POIs. Be sure to set "warn when near POI" and "Warn only if POI is on route."
You may try to check options "Points of Interest" when "Browse map of route"
Note: I save all tomtom voices, schemes and maps folder in the root of the storage card because I have Raphael (aka FUZE, Touch PRO.)
Thanks Nghiem, but my poi's are all TLV files, and TomTom Home put them in a poi folder. Maybe the file and program structure is different in TomTom 7 ?
Also the only reference to poi's in my map folder is a file called poi.dat..all the existing poi's work ok, its only the ones that are downloaded by TomTom Home that don't work
Can anyone shed some light on this?
many thanks
I have tomtom since they made tomtom 5 when you could purchase and run it for PDA legally in U.S Right now I have tomtom 7.xx and maps version 8.30.xxx. The "poi.dat" you see inside map folder is the original POI's from tomtom. All others POI's format are *.ov. and it can be downloaded extra via tomtom Home. I download and install some of them e.g "Haunted_Hotel.ov2" without any problem.
Hi All,
****** Update --> solved, I searched for poi.dat, to find 2, it seems I had some installed a duplicate copy of the map folder in SD card\my documents\ I dragged & dropped *.ov2 & *.bmps to this folder & it worked how it should, phew!!! thanks for looking
I've been using tomtom navigator 7.915 for around 3 months on my TD2 (topaz) & it's fantastic, except I can't seem to add any extra pois.
I have dl'd extra pois (*.ov2 & *.bmp files) from tt home & the net, I've dragged & dropped them over to my to the following folders:
1. map folder on my SD card (GB & northern Ireland)
2. installation folder (sd card\program files\navigator)
I've even tried the pois from that were working on my old pda (loox 720) all without any joy, when I go into the tomtom program on my TD2 (topaz) I cannot find any trace of the pois I've added (either by navigating to them or by using the 'show poi' utility in the preferences menu.
Looking at the files there is a poi.dat file in the map folder, do I need to hack this some how? This seems to be extra to any version of TT I have used before.
I'm guess I'm likely missing something really obvious, only I've been trying to sort this for a few months now & cannot find any help via searching here & tomtom forums. So any help will be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Martin.
Go to the map view, look up the "options" and see whether the POI visibility is checked. From there you can also select which categories are displayed.
This is the simple solution. Hope it works.
