verizon xv6600 with camera = redheaded stepchild? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hey all, two quick disclaimers: 1, I hate when initial posts are self-serving and 2. I've searched the forums high and low, and couldn't find anything on this.
That out of the way, I'm hoping to help fill in this gap and in the process get this model into the club.
I have the Verizon xv6600 with the camera, which means that audivox has no available patch for it, Verizon has no available information on it, and none of the other possible ship roms that I could find will let me upgrade or change anything in it.
I wanted to share the details of this model, and hopefully upload the rom, if that hasn't been done, but I wasn't sure, 1) where to put it 2) if this is even something that anyone wants me to do, and 3) how to do it.
As for 3) I did dig through the wiki, and the forums, couldn't find any sticky's or anything right on point, though I might just be bad at digging.
As for the info:
We have:
Rom Version: 1.35.00 WWE
Rom Date: 12/10/04
Radio version: HA01_140
Protocol version: AA3.3.301
PRL: 50276
ExtROM: 1.35.113 WWE
My current BT: 3500
Anyhow, don't mean to be self serving, just noticed that this device is absent on the site.
Thanks all.
mods, feel free to move this anywhere it might be more useful.

On wiki we have
XV6600WOC WWE 1.35.00 1.35.115 HA01_140
which seems is higher than your 1.35.113 WWE
You should be able to open your extneded rom and rar that to upload onto the site, somebody will link it to wiki or even cook it.
The ftp link is:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Blueangel
the user is xda and password xda (both small the forum makes it large)

done and done.
done and done,
hopefully I wasn't too sloppy.
Doesn't seem that there's any other denotation for the name (like WC or something) and there are no official patches for this model. (the WOC update will fail, but purportedly, that's already on here.)
Let me know if anyone needs anything else.
Cheers.
(btw thanks for the nudge in the right direction)

Very interesting stuff here. I have the Sprint PPC6600, and after the most recent update on the Audiovox site I am at:
Rom Version: 1.36.00
Rom Date: 1/13/05
Radio version: HA00_140
Protocol version: AA3.3.301
PRL: 10026
Extrom; 1.36.110 WWE
As you know, Sprint doesn't have their EV-DO network up yet (well, it's partially up but still in the testing phase). I'm curious if the 00_140 radio version has EV-DO disabled? I wonder if I was able to flash radio version 01_140 onto my Sprint Harrier if it would flick on the EV-DO radio (I live in an area they are currently testing it). Probably requires provisioning and PRL update to work, but cool to think about .
What seems most interesting to me at this point is that HTC has done up a new ROM containing WMP10 (maybe you already knew this from reading the WMP10 on Blue Angel post in here). It takes the ROM up to 2.03 (Radio is still 01_140). You can download the imate Harrier version here:
ftp://www.clubimate.com/Support/HA_Telstra_20300_111_01140.exe
I can't get anywhere trying to install it because the nbfs are all protected by the new protection and the country code 120 error always comes up. I am hopeful that some of the bright minds here (mamaich!) can come up with a way to allow us to flash the new roms on our devices.
Dan
P.S. DeviceData.txt reports that my Sprint Device has an Operator ID of 53500001. Can you run GetDeviceData.exe on your VX6600 and tell me what your Operator ID is? They have a pretty good catalog of all the GSM Operator IDs in the wiki, but Sprint and Verizon are missing from the list.

Using the MaUpgradeUT_noID.exe file I was able to upgrade my 6600 to the new wm10 version with Sprint's extended rom. even went as far as removing picture mail, audible player and that express crap from the extended rom using the extended rom tool on the device. Right now I'm flashing it again as this time I added telstra's radio image so I'll have telstra's windows mobile and radio image with a sprint extended rom. I also got the country code error but when the rom update program stops I just run it again cause the device is still in loader mode. When I start the update again nothing gets verified and the upgrade will go without any problems. I'm a newbie with all of this so there's probably a better way, good thing I have a test device just in case I screw sometrhing up.
**update
No success using verizon's radio rom, but using sprint's radio rom works.

that_kid,
Thanks for that tip... in all my searching I did not manage to find that method. It worked great. I also tried Flashing the HA01_140 radio ROM (from the Telstra package) but got no service on my Sprint PPC6600. I am very curious if the reason has something to do with the PRL or some other configuration... of if, God forbid, the Sprint devices really do have different hardware.
I noticed that Connectivity is now a separate icon from Phone on the top bar. I need to check the cooked WMP10 thread again as I think they came up with a fix for that.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
Dan
P.S. Have you (or anyone) checked out what's in the Telstra 2.03 extended ROM? I know I wouldn't want most of it, but I just kept the latest Sprint extended ROM (1.36.113) and am wondering if there's anything of interest in 2.03.111 WWE.

Dan,
Gald it worked for you. I have some bad news though, the reason the radio rom didn't work is because Sprint's version isn't EvDO it's just 1x. I have 2 sprint 6600's and ove Verizon branded harrier and one unbranded harrier. The unbranded harrier has the same problem as Sprint's 6600's and I've since found out that the unbranded harrier isn't EvDO. I can get telstra's radio rom to work fine on the verizon harrier and later I found that the radio rom for telstra and verison are the same versions, but on the sprint 6600's and the unbranded harrier I have the same problems. Basically the radio light never flashes and the device is always looking for service. When I goto the service screen I see the device searching for service but no channel numbers are listed. So it looks like there will be alot of angry ppc6600 owners soon.

Is it even remotely possible that it's got something to to with the PRL list? Is your unbranded Harrier activated on a cellular network? Does it have a PRL file loaded?
Dan

I wish but I tried it on one of my sprint devices and it had the correct prl on it. I still hope I'm wrong but my gut feeling is that we're screwed.

see this is all interesting stuff.
here I was getting ready to cook up MY radio version to get slightly better bt functionality, It's really silly if there's a hardware difference allowing only the verizon models to get on evdo with sprint knowing that they'd be rolling this out for a while.
That being said, verizon for some reason is rushing a 650 onto the market without evdo support... so the wisdom in telecom is sometimes hard to decipher.
Anyhow, I'm probably going to start looking around for tweaks soon, but more importantly hopefully someone with more knowledge can examine this and the xv6600woc and find out for sure whether its a hard or soft issue with evdo support. Be nice if you guys didn't have to buy another phone for that.
Cheers.

Hmmm... I still don't understand what you're saying here. Using a Sprint PRL, I wouldn't expect EV-DO to work (they probably have a custom PRL they're using for EV-DO testing). So have you been able to activate this unbranded Harrier on Verizon? I know you can't activate it on Sprint because they'll only activate ESNs on their list. Assuming you can activate it with Verizon and load a Verizon PRL onto it, and flash the radio to HA01_140, would it find a signal?
Well, I'm going to be pissed if they intentionally crippled this phone to make it incompatible with EV-DO, but as long as they release an EV-DO-enabled version then I'll be OK. I'll probably be able to sell this one on eBay and not have to spend too much more to buy the EV-DO model. Switching to VZW is not an option (company phone) but I'm dying for EV-DO, so I'll so what I have to do.
I hope we can get a core group of Harrier users together here. Even though some of the info here works for CDMA, it's all obviously targeted to the GSM models and some stuff isn't compatible.
I would really like to get to the bottom of this EV-DO/non EV-DO issue. Does anyone know if the imate Harrier for Telstra is EV-DO enabled? And if it is, does Telstra offer EV-DO service anywhere?
Dan

There's no custom prl for EvDO, the cell sites are the same, all the prl does is tell the phone which cell sites and which carriers the phone is permitted to use. Without the phone getting a signal, it has no idea what I can/can't do.
As far as the harrier I can activate it on verizon but haven't done so yet. I'm still trying to be 100% sure the ppc 6600's won't do EvDO and then I may make the jump. The thing that has me unsure is all the devies have the same model number on the identity screen. I'm going to take my harries apart(again) and compare the circuit boards. I just can't believe that the model number would be the same for an EvDO and non EvDO version. I have a ticket in with sprint to have the ens added to the database. It's possible cause when I used to have this done for customers when I worked at sprint, then again that was some years ago and alot has changed so I'm not holding my breath.
The unbranded harrier has the same issues as the sprint 6600's when you use the ha01_140 rom. It's not just the fact that the doesn't find a signal, the green radio light doesn't illuminate either which to me says that something is wrong. When I flash the verizon branded harrier with the same radio rom it finds a signal and the radio light works.

What you say makes good sense that_kid... I guess I just don't want to believe it .
If you don't mind disassembling your Harriers and checking components that would be great!
Meanwhile, do we know how many branded Harriers exist? Obviously there are the Audiovox ones--Sprint PPC6600 and PPC6601 and the Verizon XV6600WOC and XV6600WC. Then there's the imate branded Telstra Harrier (which I found out, is EV-DO enabled because New Zealand does have EV-DO coverage). Anyone know of any others?
Here's my next "thought". What if HTC programmed a check into the 01_XX ROM version to look for specific operator codes? This would have been done to account for CDMA providers who did not yet offer EV-DO coverage. It's a thought, but I guess we wouldn't know until Sprint launches EV-DO and whether they offer an EV-DO enabled Harrier.
Aside from that, I'm about out of ideas here. Unfortunately I don't possess much technical knowledge on the specifics of CDMA technology and how EV-DO differs from 1xRTT. However, I agree with you that if the Sprint had different hardware inside then it should have a different model code.
Speaking of that, someone posted the device info of their WOC Verizon in the big thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15510&start=49) and shows a model PH20A3. I assume the minor number is different to indicate lack of camera. I don't have a camera-less Sprint phone to check (do you?) but my 6600 with camera is PH20A2.
Time will tell, I guess. I just find it hard to believe that HTC went and made a special radio just for Sprint (as far as I know the Harrier design has been an EV-DO model since the beginning, it was first sold in China as the Daxian CU928).
Dan

I thought of something else for you to try that_kid. Try to flash your Verizon phone with the HA00_140 radio ROM. That should tell us more about what the differences are between the two.
Wondering if it will:
a. work at all
b. work, but only connect to data @ 1xRTT
Also, here's a clue that perhaps the EV-DO components are in the Sprint device after all. Look for the hidden file in the Windows directory called PonHelp.exe. When you launch it you'll see the line "TECHNOLOGY: 1X-EVDO".
Not a slam dunk, but it is encouraging!
Dan

hmmm,
So here's a practical observation about vz and 1x. Even in the woods in the backwoods of upstate NY with only a single lonely bar on my phone service, my verizon 6600 speed tests at between 65-80kpbs. This is firmly in 1x land, but I'm wondering if that compares at all or is instructive as it relates to the sprint performance.
Also, is it possible that the network itself has to carry an evdo tag for the evdo rom. IE if you did flash my rom onto a different device, the reason its not working is THAT its not on VZW's network, and they're the only ones carrying the tag. Or basically the radio rom is only looking for that network, and it is blind to any non evdo tagged 1x network?
alright guys, this ends my crazy radio rom conspiracy theory for the day. (If it worked along those lines, there's no reason a talented coder couldn't develop a hybrid rom from this and the sprint radio rom and some other things, making the long awaited uber rom... but alas, I am not that guy.)

Hi Guys
Seems that you have opened a harrier club here.
As you have noticed we don't have much info on the harrier or CDMA devices on wiki.
Does one of you feel like PM me with some info so that I can update wiki?
Was thinking along the line of the the differnece of the radio, the issues that you have when reading this forum and my be a quick explanation of the differnces between GSM and CDMA and what ever EVDO is.
I am uploading the telstar rom, anybody know what model number this would be for?
I have updated wiki with your posts out of the List of Know thread.

Can someone with Verizon do a ##786# (and that_kid please do that on your unbranded) and report the hardware version shown on the screen?
My PPC6600 is 0041.
Dan
P.S. @MDAIIIUser, yeah I will try to get some info together for the wiki. The Harrier was just released on Bell Mobility in Canada, so we may see more interest here on that unit as more countries get it (unfortunately no Europe though).

A chap at pdaphonehome.com (The most popular forum for the Harrier, but doesn't have the technical focus of xda-developers) posted the details of his Bell Mobility PPC-6600:
Windows Mobile Second Edition
Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14235.2.0.0)
ROM version: 2.04.00 WWE
ROM date: 01/26/05
Radio version: HA00_144
Protocol version: AA3.3.301
PRL version: 30378
ExtROM version: 2.04.116 WWE
Hardware version: 0041
Browser version: MSIE 6.0
Edit: to add he has model # PH20A2... and the device has the camera--so identical to the Sprint version except for the updated ROMs.
His post is here:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=326469#post326469
He indicated that Bell Mobility does not have EV-DO up and running yet but is currently testing it and plans to launch this year (just like Sprint).
His device has WMP10 (as its CE ROM is >2.0) and he does have a newer radio version than the latest Sprint one--but notice its at 00 level. I think, at this point, it is safe to conclude that 00 = 1xRTT networks, 01= EV-DO networks (which can obviously step down to 1x when needed.
jazzrich9--your theory is plausible also (to my mind, anyway--but that doesn't count for much! ). But what about areas where VZW has no EV-DO coverage? Do you think the 1x signal also has some kind of tag that the phone's radio is looking for?
We've got quite a mystery here... will be fun to solve it.
Dan

Thanks Ehud... so we know that the hardware version is 41 regardless of EV-DO... so I again fall back to the notion that if there were a hardware difference between the sprint/bell mobility and verizon/telstra models then we'd be able to see it reflected in the device info screens.
So... Ehud (or anyone else with an EV-DO Harrier)... if you're feeling adventurous, try to flash the 00_140 radio version using the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe utility. You'll need the PPC6600 ROM package from the Audiovox site to get the proper radio_.nbf.... beware, slow download:
http://www.audiovox.com/downloads/HA_SPCS_13600_113_00140_6600.exe
It would be very interesting to see what the results are of that test! Will the radio work at all? Can you connect via EV-DO? Enquiring minds want to know!

Is it possible to put a Hermes Radio ROM in a Trinity? I have unlocked my device including SuperCID and I'm getting an Error similar to

I'm trying to see if the Hermes 1.50... radio is better than 1.38 trinity radio for the Canadian market.
The 1.52 radio seems to be cauing alot of missed calles and send incomming callers to voicemail.

If you want to brick your device - go ahead.
Only use Trinity Radio ROM on your device. I would recommend radio 1.46.xx.11 personally. Better than 1.38 IMHO - even 1.41 is better IMHO.
radio rom is specially written firmware / embedded software
for the gsm demodulator/modulator for these devices
if the module is different from the hermes
and one force the firmware onto a device it will kill it
radeo roms if the gsm module differs from 1 device to another
are more spc to that device then normal roms ever were
I'm looking for the best Canadian firmware for Rogers. The Hermes is out for Canada and I imagine that Radio ROM would be the best. I hav'nt had luck with radios after 1.38
Actually the hermes and trinity radio's are cross compatible and should not result in a brick. However you will lose GPS functionality doing this... Why bother? I'm running the latest and greatest 1.52 here in Texas and it's working great here.
Network operators around the world are quite different. The ones I care about are GSM/UMTS and its a standard but they networks are from different vendors, with different software releases, with different platforms, different transmission systems , different antennas, different services.
I know.. I work for one in Engineering
An example services that isn't available everywhere is Name Display. Its like caller ID but shows the name and number on a mobile phone.
Another service is a very aggressive SMS notification system for missed calls etc.
These have been proven to be incompatible with many mobiles.
I tried the 1.52 radio and was missing half my calls. I just don't want to give up and try try try
Trinity radio's above 1.43.XX are flaky in Canada.
finally... I spoke with an Engineer at Rogers and they turned off some software based services..
It fixed my problem and 1.5xx series Radios seem to work perfectly. (The volume seems louder and clearer than ever.)
He mentioned he could of also turned up some timers for those extra services, giving more time for the mobile to react.. but I opted just to turn them off.
"Just say that you are missing calls, or your phone sends people straight to voicemail. etc"

Sort of Urgent, t mobile 2.19.11 uk radio rom in US

I'm sure the answer to this is real obvious.. But somehow it has escaped me.
I live in the US, Michigan to be exact. Anyways I have a htc 8125 (wizard) and have tried a few different ROMs to increase reception/service..
Anyways a lot of people have told me i'm missing calls so I looked for a more "stable" radio rom and saw a lot of people in the US using the UK t-moble 2.19.11 rom.
important stuff: (skip to here)
Should the UK 2.19.11 work in the US? I flashed it to my device, and it can't find service or connect to a network.
Is there another setting I need to set, or can check?
And last but not least, is there a more suiting radio rom for me?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
edit: i'm on cingular
you need to apply the Cingular fix if im not mistaken, just search the forums for, "Cingular Radio Fix" and you will be able to find it.
Signal quality also depends on the signal reception of a network in some area, some areas have bad /weak signal receptions from networks, try to move in some other areas apart from your place and check the signal reception, sometimes, you may have bad reception if working in basements. It also is very Antenna depended,if the phone is dropped or antenna connection is not proper,it may result in weak/bad signal quality.
Anyhow, you can also try Radio Rom 2.69.11,which is much preferred or the latest version 2.71.11,select the one which gives better performance. Here's the cingular fix attached, install and check if it helps :-
cingular fix
does the cingular fix work on non UK radio? I've been having missed calls on both my wizards. I've tried Crossbow, and currently am running faria crossbow on both. any help would be appreciated.

Reflash a T8285 Aussie Telstra

I know there are probably many posts on here, but I really dont have the time to compile them into one answer. So here's my questions:
Has anyone reflashed the Aussie TELSTRA T8285 with Dutty's or Miri's and still been able to the keep the 850mhz 3G opertional in the USA for AT&T?
I ask this as 2 fold: I want to unbrand the Telstra and also install the enhancements of these ROMS.
yes.. you can get back 850mhz 3G

when i had a telstra i would put the stock telstra HD_Blackstone_Radio_1.10.25.25 on it after flashing a new rom, however i'm pretty sure any of the new radios on dutty's/miri's will work fine.
Works fine on my T8285.

I have a T8285 in the US and I have tried all thr romes and they do work on the 850. At least in my area that has 850. Not all ares in the us have this available
Well, thanks to all for the quick replies. I'm in Phoenix and have no worries about the coverage, as it is a popular AT&T Market. Just wanted to make sure I didn't kill the 850mhz/3G functionality.
Who's ROM (versions) do you perfer for the reflash of the T8285, Dutty's or Miri's?
My T8285 works perfectly on the UMTS/HSDPA Rogers network in Montreal (850 Mhz)
I'm currently using Dutty 3.8 without any issue.
I also tried Miri's one, but my preference goes to Dutty's ROM with latest Manilla.
I changed several time the radio ROM, but never lost the 3G.

all the above replies are correct: you'll be fine flashing other ROMS and you'll still have 3G access... but, there are 2 things you may notice after flashing your TELSTRA T8285 with a European T8282 rom (which is what most cooks are using as a base):
(1) you will have to turn 3G access on via Settings-->Comm Manager. for some reason, it's turned off by default.
(2) the 850 3G Band settings in the Phone App may be missing. in pic 1 below you see my Telstra HD without the settings and you can see at the top that i'm still getting a 3G/HSDPA signal with at&t. pic 2 shows my phone after adding the settings via a registry edit, and you can also see that i'm still getting a 3G/HSPDA signal with at&t.
my point, don't be alarmed, YOU WILL still have 3G access without the 850 3G band settings. FYI, i'm using the 1.14 Radio (not the original Telstra version) and have no problems with 3G access

Awesome, Thanks! These replies have really pulled the Aussie option all together.
With regards to your point 2, do you have to re-do the register entries or just let it be and Auto take care of it?

it's been my experience that you don't have to re-do the registry entries. i did not put them back on my phone until now (so i could create the screenshots). it's personal preference.
I also have a T8285 that I got from Aus.
I'm running it fine here in the California Bay area on ATT 3G
Just follow the steps to get to a 1.56 SPL then use USPL to upgrade to whatever ROM you like. I am using Duttys 3.9XT ROM which also has the latest Radio, all works fine. I love it!

Some files might contain the a file called "RILPHONE.DLL". Use this file at your own risk. Users have reported that it caused them to hard-reset their devices to obtain radio signal.
Flashing a Rhodium radio
Follow the ROM flashing guide HERE, flashing a radio takes exactly the same steps. Most importantly, you will need HardSPL (read HERE) to flash Rhodium radios.
Flashing a radio will not wipe your data but making a backup before flashing anything is always recommended.
Security unlocking is not needed if you want to flash a Rhodium radio.
Flashing non-Rhodium (Topaz) radios
If you have flashed HardSPL and want to flash Topaz radios, security unlocking is needed (see HERE).
HardSPL does not security unlock your phone, so do not attempt to flash Topaz radios without security unlocking the phone.
Note: Radios for other models than Rhodium and Topaz will never work and should never be flashed.
Additional information
An often mentioned file is rilphone.dll. This file interacts with your Radio and can make a difference in radio, GPS, battery performance and a couple of other things.
This file cannot just be replaced by copying.
As it stands now, the only way to get a rilphone.dll to work properly in a ROM is by cooking it into the ROM.
More information about this rilphone can be found HERE.

Haha I will I just need to get my ROM thread all fixed up...
Radios I have so far are AT&T, HTC original Radio and the updated radio. Don't have version numbers off of the top of my head. Also, I am looking into to see if the rilphone.dll works the same as it does on the Touch Pro. I am guessing it does but want to double check...
What about T-Mobile's radio? Ever since I got the TP2, I've never seen my service go above 3 bars. It's usually 1 or 2 bars, but I can get a good 3G signal from just about anywhere. I'd like to think that it's just me, but past experience has proven to me that T-Mobile's coverage in Chicago is unparalleled.
It just saddens me that my Wing had 4 bars of service about 90% of the time... and that was with the stock radio. Service stayed the same with the new radio, but battery life was much better when handling data.
AT&T Radio
So I've been looking around the boards and *think* I have the answer to my question, but I want to confirm.
I have the unbranded Touch Pro 2. I just upgraded to 6.5 (Woot!) and I love it.
One thing: I'm on EDGE since I'm in the US and apparently ATT and TM don't use the same frequencies as Europe for 3G(who knew?). I'm loving me some 3G and want to know if it is possible to upgrade the radio in the phone to get 3G in the US on ATT and/or TM.
I still have some time on my contract with ATT, so 3G on ATT would be wonderful.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on getting 3G to work for me in the US?
Thanks all!

Unfortunately you are SOL. I would advise you sell your unbranded and wait for the ATT version or switch to T-mobile, get their version and you will be 3G now. Their is no radio ROM update that will allow you on ATT or T-mobile 3G as the RADIO HARDWARE is different.
here is a question
is it possible to keep current 3G bands by flashing ROM for other country with radio ROM included?
that is, we know Tungsten and Fortress will have different 3G frequencies from Euro/Asia
e.g. if I flash CHT (Hong Kong) ROM with radio ROM included on TP 2 from T-Mobile US, is it possible to keep 3G band for T-Mobile?
or is there any option to just flash main ROM only, no radio ROM?
Aside from Topaz, what other radios can be used?
TMO 3.45.25.14 radio on Touch HD
Hey guys...can anyone get me the TMO radio 3.45.25.14 for the Touch Pro 2?? I am hoping that it would help me get the 3g signal on my Touch HD. Any thoughts??

I am 98% certain that the frequency bands are dependent on the hardware of the phone, not the radio ROM.
Here is the nbh file for the 3.46.25.30 radio, its the one from the hotfix of htc
use customruu to flash it

So has anyone tried flashing a US radio ROM on a European phone yet? I am curious to see if this is a ROM (proto) issue, or an actual Hardware issue. I like my AT&T network, but I am not sure if I will buy their branded phone if I have the option to purchase something else.

I just flashed it, not much of a noticable difference! I can tell you with certainty the the 3G issue you are having is hardware not software. T-Mobile US uses different bands than the other providers and this is all controlled by the hardware on the phone! I agree, the European TP2 looks better than the T-Mobile TP2 but if you want 3G through T-Mobile you need to buy theirs! As I see you are with at&t you will need to look into the bands your phone use (800, 1900 Mz ect) to see what is compatable with at&t's network. If it is not working now flashing a different radio will not change that! It is still a good looking phone, I love mine and the 3G is worth it!
Well, the MSM7200A package supposedly includes the RTR6285 chip, which is essentially the wireless "modem". From the 6285 datasheet:
• North American triple-band UMTS (bands 2, 4, 5)
• Japanese triple-band UMTS (bands 1, 6, 9)
• European, Chinese and ROW triple-band UMTS (bands 1, 3, 8)
• Global quadruple-band GSM and EDGE (800/900/1800/1900 MHz)
• GPS receive band
Anyhow, band 2 & 5 is AT&T while 4 is T-Mo. (Interestingly, it looks like most of the branded HTC phones operate at 2100MHz as well, which is band 1).
The point here is, why would HTC go to the trouble of manufacturing multiple hardware boards if they can just control the chip configuration with software?
It would be interesting to see if an AT&T phone flashed with a T-Mo radio would work on the T-Mo 3G network, or vice-versa.

No it wouldnt, I have T-Mobile and also have an at&t fuze and my fuze will not work with T-Mobile 3G no matter what I flash on it! Lame!!
Hmmm.. well, I think the tilt / fuze / touch pro 2 all use essentially the same chip set. From what I gather, the MSM7200 / MSM7201 are basically the same thing, and the MSM7200a / MSM7201a are just the 45nm version of that chip with twice the RAM/ROM and a slightly faster CPU, so... damn? Maybe I'll flash a japanese radio on my tilt and see if I don't break it

Hey guys
Im a topaz(Diamond II) owner. Do you guys know if i will be able to use Rhodium rom on diamond II? I really want to try out the tmobile rom for touch pro 2
In the mean time, if anyone is interested,
I wrote a tiny program that will record your phone signal strength over time into a data text file so you can analyze your radio performance. I wrote this because my signal fluctuates too much on older touch diamond 2 radio roms.
This program has only been tested for a day by myself so far on diamond2, but should work for Rhodium no problem.
after you run, the recorded data can be found on data.txt on your root directory

SX66 Help

I just got an SX66 and my current carrier is AT&T. I put my SIM card in the SX66 and cant get it to make any calls what so ever. Any Ideas please?
Windows Mobile v 4.21.1088 (Build 15005.1.2.1)
ROM 1.33.10 WWE
Radio: 1.02.10
Thanks!
welcome to the forum!
could you describe your problem a little further? is the sim card rejected, then you might want to sim unlock your device, a tool for that can be found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Unlock_Sim
The phone does not reject the SIM. It just wont connect to the AT&T network. Ive tried the unlocker and it dosnt work since the it recognizes the SIM. Ive seen everyone unlocking it for other services, but no one for AT&T so far.

Umm, last I looked, the unlocker programs don't care about the carrier you are on or trying to use, unless you are trying to lock the phone to a specific carrier.
The SX66 was originally sold by AT&T, so you shouldn't need to unlock it, unless someone locked it to another carrier.
Basic steps (not trying to insult anyone here):
Are you sure it's an SX66?
Does the SIM work any other phones? Which ones?
When you put your SIM in the phone and boot it, what does the display show? Any error messages?
Does the aerial icon at the top of the screen show any bars?
Checked the comm manager to make sure the phone isn't starting in airplane mode?
Also, unless I'm remembering incorrectly, that device is using the original OS, you might want to look into upgrading that ROM and radio stack.
I just upgraded the ROM to windows Mobile 6.5, and yes it is a Cingular branded SX66. The SIM card works in my AT&T LG Neon. It searches for the carrier, and just displays the exclamation point next to the antenna. The SIM is a blue and white AT&T card, with 3g on it.
And thanks for all the help.

Hmmm...
Potential issues:
Band coverage: Of the three bands the LG supports, the angel covers them, so non-issue
SIM type: This might be a problem. Mind you, I've not been an AT&T customer in years but I have heard of this kind of thing happening, where the SIM is a 3G-only SIM (not the case here as the LG isn't a 3G phone).
Making some guesses here...
The phone doesn't complain about not being able to read the SIM, but it can't associate with a tower. It might be the SIM just being too new and the angel hardware doesn't quite know how to deal with it. You wouldn't happen to have another SIM to test it with, or know someone with an older SIM or different carrier that you might be able to drop in the SX and see? It is possible that the hardware is just dead, but without other SIMs to test with, it's hard to say.
I know that I had a friend that had an AT&T SIM that went in a 3G phone. He borrowed my old T-Mo 2G Nokia (unlocked, of course) when his AT&T phone was pinched, and the Nokia couldn't deal with the AT&T SIM very well, and wouldn't register on the network.
Have you upgraded to the latest radio available, or is it still running the original? Remember, most ROMs do not have the radio stack as part of the upgrade image, it's a separate process.
(I really should look for parts for my angel and bring it back to full production level for nostalgia if nothing else. Sadly, it's got a flashing LED for the charging indicator at the moment, I think the battery I have is truly dead. I will have to look for the spare I had laying around.)
Ok, trying to upgrade the radio to 1.15 and it keeps giving me the ERROR 100: Model ID error. IS it because I upgraded the ROM to WM 6.5? And is there any way I can install the radio ROM with out downgrading?

Wow, it's been a while since I looked at flashing a radio ROM on the BA... There appears to be multiple ways now. Have you followed the directions in the wiki, available here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Radio_1.15_Upgrade
Ok, so I upgraded the radio to 1.15 finally. And still, no connectivity with my SIM.
UPDATE: Just tried a T-Mobile SIM from my friends G1 and was able to make calls and connect. So Its must be my SIM card, for some reason....
EDIT: I just soft reset it with my AT&T SIM card in, and now it says that its connected to Cingular, however, I cannot make calls or send text messages.

Sorry for the delay...
Hmm, interesting... Well since it worked with TMo, I don't think that the phone itself is bad. It looks like it's something with your SIM. You could try a different one (know anyone else on AT&T?), or check with the AT&T store and see if a rep can look up what info they have on the phone and swap out your SIM with one that is known to work with the phone.
Right now, that's all I can think of. If I think of anything else, I'll followup, but I do think that it's your SIM that is causing the issue at this point. I've never heard of anyone having to do anything special with one of those to allow calls to be made, much less send text messages (not picture messages, which do require some setup).
