No Config.TXT in Ext ROM - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I followed the instructions on Cooking the Extended ROM, but to my surprise there was no config.txt file. There was one however in the \Windows directory. Lots of *.CAB's and TPDisable, TPEnable and AUtoRun only.
Any help? :?:

Take a look to the answer that MDAIIIUser gave me on the same topic few days ago

Modifying PDA2K Exended ROM

Hi,
I'm trying to add a couple of things to the extended rom of my PDA2K, I've unlocked the extened rom but can't find config.txt in it.
Has anyone else unlocked the extended rom of their PDA2K? If so is there a config.txt in it?
Thanx
There is definitely a config.txt in there. Since I have an XDA2S, it also has an autoconfig.txt file for carrier customizations.
Could someone post extROM cab files for XDA2s from O2
autoconfig.txt

can you post that autoconfig.txt file here please, so i can take a look at it ?
thx
The isn't an autoconfig file. There is an autorun which reads and acts upon the Config.txt file. This is from imate
In Imate PDA2K there's no config.txt. The ExtROM is set up indifferent way. Imate has done that way since ROM 166 for XDAII. The setup.exe do the job
Sorry for the dis-information.

I stuck the config file into the PDA2K and did a hard reset but there was no effect to the setup process. The file was ignored
I had also put the Blue Tooth patch in the extended rom and it showed up in the menu of the InstallCabFile program where you choose your operator. when I chose the patch, it installed everything except for any operator settings.

So is there any way to modify the setup process?
Looking at the config text file not much different other than the Fax Cab file from the final .187 rom from o2. So looks like there is no real gain in it although would still like to have a play with the cab files if anyone has the external rom on their PC to upload.
Is the PDA2K the same as MDA3? I´m a little bit confused about this name.
If so, how did you unlocked the Ext. Rom? I just can made mine visible, but i can not write to it. The Unlock like on MDA2 does not work here...

There is another post somewhere with two files, one to unhide the extRom and another one to unlockit.
Thank you!
I found the problem. i didn´t know that i had to use -xda3 as parameter.
Now everything is working fine.

-unlock -xda3???
thanks for your help
Go to the file you want start. Then in the Contextmenu of the file click "Open with" and there you can enter the parameters.
Replying to the orginal post.
I'm fairly new to playing around with Ext-roms but here is what I have found so far.
Saqibj - It would seem that the models supplied by different Carriers have been created differently.
I've got 2 PDA2Ks. Which have been sourced in 2 different countries from different suppliers.
Both have
Rom version 1.12.22 WWE
Radio version 1.02.00
And seem to be identical hardware wise.
Device 1 has a std Imate config with no carrier customisations.
Device 2 has a modified extrom with preset network connections, splash screens etc.
Device 1 has a config.txt the other doesn't.
Most of the cabs are common to both devices
(I still don't know what half of them do - but I'm learning from other posts on this site).
Both have an Autorun.exe. - but they are different.
I suspect that the one that doesn't have a config.txt, has had the autorun.exe modfied to load the cabs etc - which obviously should prevent alteration/modification.
This could explain why you don't have a config.txt. If you are unhappy with your extrom contents, I think you can download the unmodified ROM contents direct from club-imate. But I've never done this.
Good luck
TomLin:
Thanx for the explanation, Would it be possible for you to post the autorunfile and the config.txt files, I want ro try to replace them on my ext_rom and see if it works that way.
Thanx

Help cooking my Extended ROM

Hello, I have successfully updated my ROM to the Mamaich posted 1.33.51 and all seems well apart form the occasional two GPRS Icon bug. However, I have a few questions as I now want to cook my ExtendedROM to updade some CAB files and remove some I don't need or use. The contents of my ExtendedROM currently looks like this
AutoRun.exe
BA_Album_WWE.CAB
BA_Version_122.CAB
Button9_PIE.sa.CAB
CallerID_wwe.cab
CDL_ECall.CAB
Config.txt
Custimization_CDL_090904.CAB
Default_BTsearchTime.sa.CAB
Default_ImateV112.001.cab
Fax_2.09_WWE_Unremovable_0720.CAB
JMM101257_WWE_1004.CAB
MIDI561.CAB
MMS_v2.0.0.13_BA_WWE_12132004.sa.CAB
OEM_ALL_122_04111601.CAB
OEM_BA_09080401.sa.CAB
OEM_BA_CDL_11230401.sa.CAB
OEM_Patche_12100401.sa.CAB
OEM_WWE_124_008.sa.CAB
TPDisable.exe
TPEnable.exe
I have installed the BT3900 cab file and this seems to work O.K, so my question is I would like to add the BT3900 cab file to my extended rom in addition to the camera can file.
Q1:Can anyone tell me which of the cab files in the list above are Bluetooth related, so that I can remove them.
Q2: By just adding the BT3900 cab file bring me up to date without requiring any Patches.
Q3: Would I need the audiogw.dll that a lot of people refer to
Q4: Are there other things I should consider.
I want to add the camera, phonedialler, smartdialler and BT3900 to my ExtendedROM. I would appreciate any help.
Oh! One final question - Having upgraded to 1.33.51 do I need the wave.dll file.
Thanks for all your help.

"Q2: By just adding the BT3900 cab file bring me up to date without requiring any Patches."
You must add the BT 3900.cab and also RestartRadio.exe to the config.txt as follows:
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\RestartRadio.exe
CAB: \Extended_ROM\[put filename of bt3900 upgrade here].cab
I dont know, if you have to place RestartRadio again after the upgrade.cab, as Wiki says, because after running Autorun, the device softresets itself automatically - wich restarts your radio... - So that is what causes my oppinion, that you wont need another restart before this.
But this is for sure: If you want to add a file to your ext Rom you must edit config.txt too.[/url]
Thanks Bubisch. Yeah I knew I had to update the config.txt.
Can anybody else help with the questions?

Question about Extended ROM cooking

I have succesfully updated my PDA2k from the standard ITalian ROM to the one in my signature
I'm very happy and I would like to thanks All for the support
Now I would like to cook my first Extended ROM and I have a very simple question but, I have not been able to find the answen in the wiki
The Extende ROM I have now doesn't contains the Config.txt file but the Setup.exe.
During the cooking process. Should I take out the .exe file and substitute it with my oun Confing.txt?
Thanks
Asmodeo
There is a rason for that.
In some roms that have gone through the kitchen 1.3x we have noticed that the autorun, config.txt has been subsitutted by a new methord setup.exe.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_X_131112
What you need to do is downlaod an old version Ext rom which has the autorun, confix txt.
Extract those files 2 files, delete the setup.exe and add the autorun, config txt to your ext rom (oh yes and dont forget to edit the config.txt)
The one I use is in the imate 1.22 162 and found on wiki

CAB files from (home cooked) Extended Rom do not install?

I made my own Extended Rom with a few CAB files I created, but when I do a hard-reset and let the Customization Tools do their job it looks like none of the CAB files is installed?
I'm sure my Extended Rom is build correct (I used Faria's how-to for it), but it looks like the Registry changes that's in my CAB files are not kept in the Registry because after installing the Extended Rom it resets immediately. Can this be true? Or do I need to hardcode the installpaths in my CAB files maybe?
Regards,
Molski
Already found the answer.
I added the Default_Signed_Disable_Security.CAB to the Extended Rom (as 1st file to install) and after that it worked.
Actually very logic, my CABS were not installed because they're not signed so had to disable that security first.

thats correct my friend.sorry a did not post sooner.
as for custom registry settings if u put them into a cab file, make sure it is the last file to be installed in the extendedrom setup.
regards; faria
Hay Faria,
It doesn't matter that you didn't post a reply sooner, look at the time difference between my question and my answer, it is not even a hour after each other
But why do I have to do the Registry cabs at last in the Extended Rom? Because a few files I use got Registry changes in it.
Regards,
Molski
hi
i meant registry hacks like perrfomance tweaks etc,not the ones in the programs that u are going to install.
reason?
i find out that some programs have a habit of modefing registry keys specially the ones homemade ,so if you install such cab file it is best to leave last.
cab file
Hello guys,
I started playing with my k-jam and i have to admit i'm really happy with your advises. I'm facing the same problem now, the cab files in my "cooked" ExtROM don't install. I belive i need that cab file to disable the certificate security. Could you tell me from where to get it?
Thanx a lot!

Extracting CABs from a ROM

Anyone on here know how to Extract a CAB file from a ROM/Extended ROM? ive been trying to find something about this on here and cant seem to find anything that pertains to it. there are several programs that are included in roms and extended roms that i have and i wold like to be able to put them on my 8125 with the ROM i have now. Thanks in Advance!
Corey
If you already have a cabfile that resides in the extended rom the process is quite easy... just use total commander and copy the file from there to a place on your device where you can later use it...
If you don't have a cabfile but just a program, say arcsoft mms composer that's already integrated into the rom, the process gets a little more complicated, but not impossible. You will, however, need to know all the files that the program uses, dll's, imagefiles, exe's and registry posts, copy them from rom to your windows pc and from there use a program like ce cab manager to create a cabfile for it (if you want. you can merely transer all the files and registry posts to your current rom without creating a cab)

cool, thanks for the info, what program do i need to use to unpack the NBF so i can access the files? I tried to use the one in the wiki (typho5) but i cant seem to get it to work.
for dumping rom's read through this thread
You'll probably want to read it all and I'm sure that it wont make that much sense to begin with but it'll come to you
For converting a nbf to nb files use:
Code:
typho5.exe -x nk.nbf
typho5.exe -x nk.nbf does NOT make it a .nba file!
It extracts the contents of the rom (OS, Extended Rom, Radio, Splash Screen, IPL/SPL) into .nb files.
The Extended Rom file can be opened with WinImage.

Thanks...i just checked out that thread..looks like ive got some studying ahead of me lol thanks for the help.
