SIMPLE QUESTION - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

I KNOW SOMETIME I HAVE ANYOING QUESTION SO THIS TIME I HAVE A VERY ONE
WHAT THE POINT OF ALL UPGRADE WHEN YOU CANT SOLVE THE COUNTRY ID PROBLEM AND EACH TIME A NEW UPGRADE COMING OUT WE CANT USING IT BECAUSE IS NO TOOL TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM
I HOPE SOME SERIOUS ANSWER WILL BE GIVEN

I guess i'll try to answer this one. I can imagine some of the big guys here get sick and tired of ansering the same question over and over... and over... and over... and...
So i'll do my bit and with the very little knowledge i have will try to explain how I fixed it after reading wiki. Maybe some people are just not used to forums and how things work, maybe some people aren't skilled enough with the english language to figure it out themself. Of course, some people are just lazy
1: download the ROM file you want to use. Often rar-ed or zip-ed so extract the .exe file from the compressed file.
2: use winrar to extract the files from the .exe file. (so don't just double click the .exe file, but left button and then extract to "folder name"
3: download this file: ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Tools/MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip
4: extract MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip into the same folder you just extracted the files from the .exe file.
5: run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and follow instructions.
Good luck.

INSTALLING CAB FILES?

Can someone please help me, how do you install cab files, cannot see how this is done. Trying to update my bluetooth to 3900 and all files are unreadable on my pocketpc???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check the Blue Angel FAQ on the wiki page.
I have been writing something about that on the faq for the blue angel.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelFAQ
still don't work, i open the broadcom 3900 folder and click on a file and says "there is no application associated with this file"
copy the .cab file to your device, click on it on your device and it should install
still don't work, i open the broadcom 3900 folder and click on a file and says "there is no application associated with this file"
Sigh...this has been only been explained 100 times on this forum. Maybe we need to make this a tutorial or something....
Code:
How to install *.CAB files:
STEP 1: Download the *.CAB file to your computer
STEP 2: Open de folder that contains the *.CAB file
STEP 3: Have your PDA in de craddle connected to your computer
STEP 4: Open ActiveSync, and click on Explore
STEP 5: COPY (drag) the *.CAB file to your PDA
STEP 6: Click on the *.CAB file in your PDA (with stylus)
The *.CAB file will now be installed.
In some cases, you need to soft-reset your device.
Or...as MDAIIIuser puts it: You can also go eat an apple...
That's all there is to it.
be more specific!
Where do you click on and what do you click on and on what device do you click on it?
You click on the cab file in the ftp folder and you get error
Then click on it with right mouse and select save target as.....
Or
You click on the cab file on your computer and you get the error.
Good, you allready downloaded it so now copy it to your device before trying to open it.
Or
You allready managed to get the file on your device and you get the error wich i don't believe it is the problem because then the install should begin.
Or you buy an apple and eat it.
ok guys thanx 4 all ur help, figured it out, the problem was i was extracting the folder first on My pc then just c0pying the files 0ver to the pocket pc. Instead of copyiny the complete file to the pocket pc then extracting it from there.
copy the .cab file to your device

I add the line to the FAQ
Do not extract the cab files on your computer.

Please help: flashing ROM

I read the wiki and all the other stuff that I was supposed to before I tried to flash a ROM.
I am stuck on a step and could use some help. I downloaded the ROM to my cpu. I noticed it was a .rar file, so i also downloaded winrar so I could open it.
Execute the .exe file you downloaded with the ROM. (If the ROM you downloaded only comes with an nbh file, download the CustomRUU for the Kaiser here. Put KaiserCustomRUU.exe and you nbh in the same directory and run KaiserCustomRUU.exe)

I cant get past this step. Can someone please advise.
don't know why u would get stuck ...
create new folder and place the .nbh and kaisercustomruu.exe in same folder on pc. make sure phone connected to pc via active sync and connection is established (icon turns green in actuve sync). now run the kaisercustomruu.exe from pc and let the action began.
p.s. i do sincerely hope u flashed hardspl onto ur device be4 flashing. don't know what that is? plz stop flashing and read wiki again for ur sake.
People just don't read. Did you try extracting the contents in Winrar to your desktop?
I did the hardspl already.
when i try to extract the folders it asks me for a password.

passwords are usually located on the first or second post of the rom you are trying to flash.
Found it. thanx!
Mod Note: This question should have been posted in the thread specific to the Rom you downloaded in the ROM Development Forum.
New thread for existing issue is a no-no.

how to extract cabs from NBH file

im trying to extract some cabs from a NHB file...can anyone guide me in the direction on how to do this
I'd say the best way to do that is to extract the ROM into regular files.
You need to download a bunch of EXE files: NBHextract.exe, NBSplit.exe, ImgfsToDump.exe, and ImgfsFromNB.exe
You need to extract the NBH with NBHextract.exe. This will yield a .nb file
You need to use NBSplit (use the "-kaiser" parameter) to split the .nb into a .nb.payload file and a .nb.extra file
You then need to use ImgfsFromNB on the .nb.payload file, which will create a file called imgfs.bin
Use ImgfsToDump on imgfs.bin, which will create a folder called "Dump". When it finishes, All of the ROM's files will be there. You will probably want to search the folder for .cab files, since there are thousands of files in the average ROM dump.
That should do the job for you.
Or just use Visual Kitchen to Dump the ROM, and then rebuild the OEMs to CABs.
Dave
could u walk me through the visual kitchen program?
Hmmm look for htcRIE_0.4.0.47 and extract what you want.
im trying to extrct the streaming media player cab...the one thats in most of the 6.5 roms that has a look a like HTC ablum look to it, but i cant find a cab using "htcRIE_0.4.0.47"
little help will might ...
You do not search for it at you WM ROM,
Search at the site...
Anyway i have been find it for you !
A newer version of htcRIE, enjoy!

With Visual Kitchen, just click on the Dump button at the bottom - and then browse to the NBH file .
Dave
i guess all nbh files dont have cabs because in the dump folder it creates...its only a couple of cabs and whole lot of systems files

Yeah, you have to rebuild the EXT packages to CAB's I don't know if there is a tool for that actually. Might be better dumping it the Dave (TyTNII) way, that will give you OEM's. There are tools for OEM 2 CAB.
Jason8 is working on a tool to convert all 3 all ways IIRC.
Dave
the nbh extract file launches for a quick second...it doesnt stay on the screen, as well as a lot of other files such as nbh split....do i need to update something in order to have these programs run properly?

You have to run them from the windows command line (CMD.exe). If you really want me to, I'll upload a batch file I made which automates most of this. You just put the NBH and tools in certain folders and run the batch file and it does the rest.

that would be so helpful
Alright, I fixed all the bugs in it (it was still in progress) and added some new features I had meant to add for a while, such as renaming the processed files by date processed (though you probably won't need them if you're only extracting one ROM). Hit [WINDOWS KEY] and R on your keyboard at the same time to open the Windows Run dialog, and type "%USERPROFILE%" without the quotes. Simply unzip the file and drag the folder called "Flashing" in the user folder (it's vital to have the Flashing folder in the correct spot. Otherwise, the entire script will fail). Place the NBH file you want to extract in the NBHDUMP folder (in the Rhodium folder, which is in the Flashing folder), and go to the IMGFS folder (in the Rhodium folder, which is in the Flashing folder). Now, run RhodiumRomDump.bat and the dump should commence, and a folder with your dump should appear in the same directory.
If anything should go wrong, please tell me so I can try to fix it.
EDIT: Please redownload, all issues I could find are fixed in this version. If you get errors about needing MSVCr71.DLL with this version, google is your friend.
maybe im not doing something right, ive been at it for days now...i put the "flashing folder" in C:\Documents and Settings\Sean (sean's my name..haha), put the nbh file in the NBH folder, ran "DumpRhodiumRom", i got 2 folders named "and" and "Setings"....when i run "dumpRhodiumRom", its just stays on the screen for half a second
ive extracted the rom before using visual kitchen...im trying to get some of the programs into cabs...the problem is that in the dump file, i see the programs i want, but they arent in cabs, so i cant just take its "exe" file and put it into another phone (well at least that didnt work for me)

That's odd. Can you tell me two things?
Where do these folders ("Settings" and "And") show up?
Hit [Windows Key] + R and type "CMD" (without quotes), then hit okay, then type "cd %USERPROFILE%\Flashing\Rhodium\IMGFS" (without quotes). Now, type "DumpRhodiumRom" (without quotes), and tell me exactly what is says (you don't actually have to include all the formatting and everything). Also, if you could tell me what color it's in, that would help.
I'm going to test it in a virtual Windows XP environment and see if it's compatiblity with XP that's the problem.
EDIT: So the problem seems to be the fact that it doesn't like the spaces in the folder name "Documents and Settings", hence the creation of the "and" and "settings" folders. Unfortunately, it's an important folder, so renaming isn't really possible. However, I think I know a simple fix to the original script, so I'll test that and post it shortly.

Try downloading cabtools V 0.3 and use pkg2cab to build the package back into a .cab file. I've never done it myself, but this looks like what you want.

I'm a noob chef, and i need your assitance...

Hi all... (sorry for my english)
I'm a noooooooooooooooooooob chef and i have some questions for you...
I cooked my first Rhodium ROM , but i have this problem:
When i tap on some program, i have an error message!!!
This error message tells me that you can not start the application because you can not find some components of the program, or you do not have a valid certificate...
PS: I think this is the same problem for which does not start the Sense 2.5!!!
I use "Rhodium Native WM6.5" (OEMXipKernel + os.nb.payload + romhdr.bin) with "buid 21864" (xip.bin + MSXIPKernel + SYS), and i have replaced in SYS folder NetCF2.0 with NetCF3.5 (i have moduled a cab file)...
I have tryed to use Leo EXT and Rhodium EXT, but i have the same problem!!! And i have the same problem also with NetCF2.0...
Where i wrong?
possible that no one can answer?
but I'm on XDA or not?
That error means that you are missing some dependencies. Use PE Explorer or Dependency Walker againt all exe and dll's in the package that you are having the errors on. You'll get a list of dll dependencies. Find out what packages have those dlls and include them in your rom.
Good luck.
either this or try opening the exe's from you're windows folder, this will tell you if you're shortcuts are bad.
if I understand correctly I have to check all .exe .dll and .dsm files? right?
dependencies defined in this files? and with the previous tools I can decipher the dipendencies?
Now I procure the tools ... thanks for the help ...
Well .. it seems that things are clearer now thanks to you ..
I used "Dependency Walker", and I looked the exe file of the EXT that does not work on my ROM... I realized that there are some missing .dll files that should be in the EXT folder called "files", but there does exist...
If I dumop the Shipped ROM where I took the EXT, I find them?

it's ok man!! head over to my kitchen thread: here. Download my kitchen and read the tutorial's on the first page...
Good work my friend.. your kitchen and your tutorial's are really useful for a noob chef like me...
Now I have one question... if I use "Depenadancy Walker" for open the .dll files inside the EXT package that I want to cook with my ROM, I understand that I need some .dll files to put in "files" folder of the EXT in question... at this point, I search the missing .dll files in "dump" folder and I find them in OEM folder...
the problem is this: if I follow the way to arrive at folder where are the .dll that I need, I can't find it... it's impossible to see the file.. I see only 4/5 white files called "S000", "S001", "S002", "S003", etc etc... but I don't find the .dll file that i need...
WHY????????????

First off... usually you need the entire EXT package that contains those dlls.
Second, the dlls that are directoried are actually modules. Leave them as is and include that EXT package in your ROM. You only need to recmod modules and convert to files "if" that package is giving you problems with platformrebuilder.
Third, Any package that you include from a dump, you need to look inside the initflashfiles.dat and see if there are any entries for the package you are including. You can either add those to your initflashfiles.dat or as I do, copy them and create the app.dat file for your EXT package.
Is there a guide to help noob cooks? I want to try getting into it, rather than just testing everyone else's, but I have no clue where to start.

There are a lot of thread. First thing you need to learn being a chef is know how to search. Use the link in my sign to search. Search for kitchen in this forum, and you will find tons of info. Read, keep reading, flash, keep flashing...thats the only way to cook a good ROM.
I think all the help given to the OP is what makes this forum...

Zip & Xap coruption in windows 8

Zip & Xap coruption in windows 8
I can zip. I can rename to xap and I can send to my phone and it works but when I try and extract I get error this is causeing a lot of headache and is happening on more than one zip file I have tried both versions of 7zip and WinRAR with no avail. searched the internet for days on end I cant figure out why this is happening.
OK, basic bug reporting steps here:
1: summarize the problem. All I got is that it has something to do with zips, xaps, WP8, and Win8.
2: explain what you're trying to do, what the expected result is and what actually happens (the screenshot helps with, but does not replace, this step).
3: give the steps to reproduce the problem. Do it as actual steps, not a run-on sentence with no details. For example, how are you sending the file to your phone?

Okay this really has nothing to do with my phone. other than the fact that zip's can be turned in to xap files.
lets say I have a folder with some pictures in it I right click on it and hit add to archive ok now folder is zipped.
then I try to unpack it but I cant because its corrupted.. I can not extract the file or a pic I get this error.
I Have found only one other person having this error on 7-zip forum and he says in only one post he fixed an error he was having with his zip by turning off IDM. I honestly don't see how that's related.
I have lost files due to this error.
If you copy the file off the PC, can you open the archive on another machine?

OK so.
I take a folder, 7zip it to .zip
renamed .zip to .xap
Extracted file just fine, windows 8 x64 pro.
Soooooooooooooooooooo...update your 7zip?
Not even sure why you're asking this in a phone forum, but did it work to extract the files on another machine? The fact that sending XAPs to the phone wors suggests that the problem is with the decompressor on your PC, not the compressor.
