I've seen a similar thread on here about not being able to hear calls on the Qtek 909 whereby they can hear you but you can't hear them. I have this problem occasionally on my Vodafone VPx and it's very annoying.
More annoying though is the fact that I get no notification, sound, vibration, visual or otherwise, when someone is calling me. I do however get an alert afterwards to let me know that I have missed the call and I have to call them back.
Normally a soft reset will sort the problem out in the short term but normally only until 1 call has been received or volume settings have been changed or any buttons pressed.
Anyone else had similar problems or know of a ROM upgrade for the phone that may fix it? Vodafone currently have no support that I can find for the phone as it is relatively new in the UK.
After reading various problems I think this could be related to a known bluetooth issue. I've upgraded to BT3900 but still get the problem with not being able to hear calls or have them hear me.
Maybe some reading along those lines may help you decide if that's your problem.
The only thing I can think off with regards receiving no alerts could be you call options. I know this sounds basic, but you'd be amazed how often it's something like that we all seem to overlook.
How this gives you some ideas.

At my company we use more than 30 S730's which have the same issue.
Randomly, while people are having a conversation (mobile - mobile / mobile - landline),
the connection is being cut off resulting in the inevetible 3-tone "Your call is being disconnected" sound.
Does anyone have this issue? I'm trying to figure out if this problem is related to the combination of Vodafone and the S730,
the S730 itself, or that there's something else that's dark and dangerous and wants to take over our phones.
Regards,
Korny
I dont use Vodafone, and only have dropped one call since the phone released due to bad reception where I was. Whats the connectivity like when your dropping calls? Anything causing interference or generating a signal that could bump you off?
Do you have bluetooth on?
With a t-mobile sim I couldn't make or receive calls when 3G was active, turned it off and it worked fine. This does not happen all the time.
Does that help?
edit: I have bluetooth off, as per question above.
Flame-bait:-
I've only had a quick search so I'll keep trying, but if anyone has a link to anything to automatically make sure you use GPRS unless you ask for data, then I'd be grateful.
Also links to reg keys or anything as I am not shy of a bit of tampering.
Something similar to mortscript for kaiser...
I have the same problem with my HTC S730. I think that dropping calls is someway connected with poor signal, but not that bad to dropp call. Also a WiFi may have some impact to this, but i'm not sure of it. I'm using phone in Poland 3G mobile operator.
Same here
Hey Guys,
My s730 seems to have the same issue. At least its similar. Sometimes incoming calls are auto-denied just after one ring. The problem is gone after a cold-start.
Greets,
Sam.

I recently have again this problem and even cold restar didn't help After another restart it finally start working as it should. What was most strange in this is fact that I received sms, but I couldn't make a call!
I wrote to HTC about it, but as usual my questions were ignored.
EDIT: I had enough of this and I flashed my radio from 1.58 (shipped) to 1.64 version. I hope this help and resolve my problems.
The new radio didn't solve the whole problem with disconnecting calls, but now it happens a bit rarely And battery life also has slightly improved.
OK, I'm pretty sure BT worked on the phone. Now, any time I answer from a BT device, the incoming caller is muted. He can hear me, I can't hear him.
If I transfer the caller to the phone (which btw I can hear him) and back again to the BT device, I can then hear him. If I answer the incoming call from the phone buttons, I can hear the caller on my BT device.
I must've spent like 30 calls to my phone (I'm ticked as I'm sure each one counted on my minutes) thinking of different ways to fix this.
I thought it was my BT headset, but it works on my Tilt. So I tried it in my car BT. It can't hear the caller either. So something is wrong.
If I turn off MS Voice Command (which by the way, I reg restored to before I modded it to work) my phone will make the sounds, I hear a beep in my ear. If I answer it form my headset, it works!
I could've sworn I had MSVC turned on ever since I got the unit. And I know I talked to people on my BT headset. Only thing is I don't know if I talked to someone after I did the non-att bloat hardreset.
Anybody have any ideas before I reset my phone?
had similar issue
i had the same problem and tried everything possible till i hard reset.....That fixed the problem initially.....but after i setup MSVC after a few calls it again started doing the same thing. I will be calling HTC tomorrow......will keep you posted unless someone else has an actual solution.
Update
After a couple of hours on the phone with HTC and ATT tech support....it all comes down to it being a hardware error. I went into a ATT store swapped my phone out and came back only to find the touch wheel does not work....went back got another one and finally one that works...bluetooth works fine and so does eveything else.....at least for now

I don't think its hardware that is broken in some units. At least I hope not. Someone else here said they got it to work after resetting the device only to have it break again later. For now, I have my fingers crossed that someone can fix this. Sounds like a BT stack or something that is bad.

Judging by the fact that you mention MSVC I am betting this is part of it. I have seen a ton of people complaining about it not working correctly. I think we need to start with that in the hunt.
True. Its either MSVC or BT stack. or both.
HTC Confirmation
I got a confirmation from that it is a software related issue with MSVC but they cannot release a fix until ATT approves it. The only way to speed this up is to have as many fuze users call either ATT or HTC and complain about this.
Try turning off Announce Incoming Caller. Supposedly this is the problem.
Agreed though, we MUST complain to AT&T and HTC on all issues - otherwise we all just sit here and ***** to each other and nothing happens cause they don't know how irked we are...
Hi all,
I have a problem with my new Diamond, that I hope someone can help me with.
Sometimes when I make a call or when I recieve a call, there is no sound in the "internal" speaker. Only if I press the button to enable the "external" speaker, I can here what the person says that I'm calling.
This happens 50-80% of the times that I use the phone. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with that I a use BT headset and a builtin BT system in my car, and the phone can't handle to "change" - or something.
I have the newest Danish ROM on the phone.
Hope somebody got an idea. Thanks.

I`ve the same problem since yesterday, has somebody the same problems??
I have the exact same problem and have not found a fix for this yet
I have checked phone reception and even changed different simcards and carrier.
It still happens and i am using the latest ROM as well.
I downgraded the rom back to factory default.
Same thing happens once in a while.
To me this sound like a hardware related problem and i dont know if HTC will cover this under warranty.
try deleting sms and emails from ur phone and then see
I had this problem after I installed LIVE PVR Call recorder. I uninstalled it and had no more problems.
I have in call sound problems.
When I reboot I can sometimes place one call without problems for as long as I want.
Other calls after that I have no sound, can't hear the call tone and other parties can't hear me.
Also incoming calls, i hear the phone ring but when i answer the other party can't hear me and i can't hear the other party.
The settings for sounds in the accessibility menu and noise reduction etc were off and stayed off. (other forum tips)
I also tried numerous factory resets with no avail
Can someone give me a hint how to fix it?
I have stock 4.2.2 International version of the S4 Active.
Baseband I9295XXUBMK2
Build JDQ39.I9295XXUBMK2
Kernel 3.4.0-2015525
Headset
I tried a different option. I can call with my bluetooth headset.
When i switch to speaker the in call sound drops. giong back to headset will not activate in call sound.
Same Here
The same happens to me. Only the bluetooth option works every time. I have tried several firmware and kernel versions and nothing has changed.
There is a workaround that I could find but it is totally impractical: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2371034
In forums for models / ROMs with a lot more users than this one (Nexus / CM) people with 4.2.2-based firmware versions there are many posts describing what could seems to be the exact same problem, which they have been able to fix via baseband updates or custom patches, but that does not really seems to be an option for the S4 Active...

Same problem with my SGS4A. I was on i9295XXUBMK2, tried to update using the phone update option, which rendered my phone unusable. Flashed new stock ROM i9295XXUBMK3, now I can use the phone, although sound problem persists.
Making a call: reboot, call
Receiving a call: answer, hang-up, reboot, call back
Anyone with 4.3 that has this problem on SGS3, SGS4 or SGS4A?
Edit 21.8.2014
I had the speaker changed last week and so far no problems. I am slowly getting confident that I can rely on S4A as a phone also, not just tiny surf tablet.
I have same phone, never got this pb. However I got some SD card issues after updating to KitKat...
Partial solution... for me at least
Hi guys ,
having same issue, disabling 4G option solves my problem. But it-s impractic cause I want to use the 4g... in a huawei phone I solved same issue by disabling an option of "mobile data always on"
Don't know how it's related...
Same issue for me. I made lots of research with no results. Nobody knows...
same problem here with no solution yet

same problem with in call and out call .... searched a lot about solution and no solution yet
I had a similar issue with bluetooth calls. First call would be fine, but after that I couldn't hear the other person on the line and they couldn't hear me. It turned out to be some kind of incompatibility with the Google "OK Google" detection with Galaxy S4-based phones. If I disabled it from detecting "From any screen", this seemed to correct the problem. However the setting might return on application updates. I would recommend trying that and see if it makes a difference. If it's not that, then I don't really know how to help you. I moved on from that phone over a year ago and have been happier ever since.
When someone calls me, it rings once and disconnects on their end, but for me, I have no information on a missed call or anything, like they never called me, did anyone else face this problem?
And if yes, can someone help me solve this issue?
Exynos S21 ultra running April patch on ONE UI 5.1
It sounds to me like this is a carrier issue. Are you able to make outgoing calls? Did you get a new line of service when you got your phone, or did you use a different phone before?
