I've got used to my T-Mobile UK ROM 1.06, with album, PDF viewer, etc. I'm looking at the new ROMs and see i-mate, Qtek, but not T-Mobile. Which ExtROMs/patches would I pick up to make up for the 1.06.160 T-Mobile stuff?
In fact, I only need to improve my BT connectivity with the Motorola HS850 headset. I've went ahead and upgraded to Radio 1.13 and BT 3900. There's still static/disconnects. I wonder, would BT connectivity benefit in any way from upgrading the ROM to 1.40?
A few questions while on this -- GetDeviceData.exe is not working for me, no output in \Windows. I also wanted to backup ROM on SD card, as mentioned here, but bootloader doesn't give me a USB device option... And what size SD do I need -- is it to be overwritten completely, or the stuff already on it is preserved?
I think it's for the best that it didn't go through right away, as I need to evaluate necessity of all this. Living for hard resets is tough. I wonder if there's a wiki on preserving everything in a most reliable way, and setting it back up automagically.
If you're only after BT quality, then stay as you are. 3900 is the 'best of a bad bunch' available at the moment.
Which particular 1.40 ROM/ExtROM(s) do folks use for T-Mobile UK MDA III? (T-MOB005 carrier, originally 1.06 ROM/1.06.160 ExtROM...)
I'm stuck with official t-mo rom as I need blackberry.

Has anyone with the current T-Mobile Shipped Rom, using the BB client updated to a higher radio/bluetooth version. If so, has it had an effect upon the BB client? If I recall correctly the BB client was shipped with 1.06 in Germany?
I would like to upgrade to 1.12 &3900 but afraid to do so.
Any help appreciated. Thanks
I called T-mobile and they sent me a disk with a ROM update that included Blackberry (Instant e-mail).
I installed the update, which ends with a hard re-set.
then I restored the MDA from a full Active sync backup. this of course overwrote the Blackberry app!
Then I unlocked the extended ROM using tools from this site. Then I ran the auto installer in extended rom and the Blackberry stuff was re-installed.
Then rang t-mobile and added Instant e-mail for £10 a month. Works well.
Got the T-Mobile BB upgrade, and got my account activated 4 weeks ago (radio is version 1.0, BT is 3500).
Got the BB service up and running, but when I tried to upgrade the radio stack to 1.10, everything worked fine on the phone side, but BB stopped working.
Contacted T-Mobile CS who tried to help me get it work, said everything was fine their end and even tried many options to make it work - In this particular instance I can honestly say that I have never had better customer service. At the start of the call, they offered to call me back right away (which they actually did) and the call lasted over an hour. Eventually we concluded that it must be a problem with the radio stack.
I re-installed from the T-Mobile 'upgrade' back down to radio 1.0 and everything worked fine 'straight out of the box'.
All the BB settings and data are stored in the storage area on the MDAIII, so hard resets do not mean loss of data and you don't have to reconfigure the BB client at all.
I haven't had the time to try any other radio stacks yet, but would be interested to hear anyone else's experiences.
Has anyone managed to extract the BB client from the T-Mobile UK ROM yet? If so, would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction?
Also, has anyone managed to get it working with another operator (specifically Vodafone)
Thanks!!

Did you manage to try BB with the 1.06 Rom on the FTP site. I am making an assumption that it should work as Germany released BB client with 1.06, but we all know what assuming does....
I am hoping that someone more expert than me will act as guinea pig :?:
Thanks J
The version I am using is
MDA3_TMUK_v106160_SHIP0307.exe
It works fine for me. I am using the t-mobile instant email account and it is also polling my standard pop3 account. I don't have a BES.
T-Mobile BB with Radio ROM 1.06 and upwards
OOPs apologies I wasn't very clear in my last post. What I was referring to is whether you have upgraded the Radio ROM from version 1.0 which is the one contained within the 1.06 BB Rom.
I am running BB fine on my device as well with the updated ROM. The problem, as ever, is the bluetooth range and quality. I believe that 1.06 is supposed to be a significant improvement over 1.0, even if 1.08/1.10 or 1.12 cannot be used.
Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for the tip. I'll upgrade to 106 asap and give it a try.
Jiggy - Sorry I took so long to reply, but I've been busy. Finally got round to installing 1.06 Rom on the FTP site and BB works. Thanks for the suggestion.
BB with Radio 1.06 and BT3900??
XDA Rocks - thanks for the response now I will give it a try
Have you upgraded the stack to 3900 in addition to the 1.06 upgrade?
I just wondered whether this will affect the BB.
Thanks J
T-mobile Blackberry
Gentlemen - many thanks for all the feedback and especially MDAIIIUSER for all the guidance.
Got slightly carried away and went the whole hog!
MDA III on UK T-mobile
Flashed with 1.40 ROM, 1.12 Radio and BA_ERK_13 (from 1.22 kitchen)
+BT 3900
Everything worked well and the bluetooth may have been marginally better.
However could not get the blackberry client to work. Using instant email - the system would log on and then drop out without registering. (Similar probs in other threads). Again Tmobile customer service were exemplary and we tried everything - finally resetting back down to 1.06 ROM, 1.00 Radio and 1.06 Ext ROM. Now it all works again!
Therefore I'm assuming it's the radio that's the problem and that 1.12 does not work with BB. When feelinfg brave again will upgrade the radio to 1.06 and the Ext ROM to BA_ERK_13. Is the consensus opinion that this is sensible and should I be able to get away with the main ROM upgrade to 1.40? Anyone else tried any other combinations that allow BB to work?

Not sure if I read what you wrote correct or if you obmited some info.
Anyway If you used the ERK_122_013, in its full then you also upgraded patches like BT that are part of the 1.40.
You need to only use the customizing files and the ERK_140_Base files
As for the BB, you need to read the thread on that, think it went along the lines that only the 1.06 radio worked.

Yes, upgraded to 3900 and BB works fine - BT still crackles though.
Radio 1.06

Sorry to be a pain but could you PM me with the link or send me the 1.06 radio upgrade file. I couldn't find it on wiki (lowest I could find was 1.08).
Do you think it is worthwhile upgrading in terms of the quality and range of the bt (I note your comment that it is still crackling  ). Hopefully you have noticed some improvement?
Thanks again
Jase
Jiggy,
I found the radio rom on the ftp site in
/BlueAngel/Radio_Roms
I have upgraded to 1.06 and BT3900 and personally haven't noticed any improvement using Jabra 200 and Bluespoon AX headsets

Many thanks again.
Just confirming but if I understand correctly - the best that we can hope for on our UK MDA IIIs at present is: (with Blackberry working)
ROM 1.06
Radio 1.06
Ext ROM 1.40 cooked (customised as required)
Is this correct?

My K-Jam / MDA Vario is two hours old but damn, she's fine ! I see about the speed thing but it's not that obtrusive. I understand the WM 5 thing about loading the programs from ROM into RAM to execute but I have questions later.Given the other integrated features I like, fine compromise. Now on to the topic at hand:
Bought this unit from importgsm.com for US$589.99 (sweet). It's T-Mobile MDA Vario from Germany so all manuals, CDs, etc are in German. Not too worry, lot's of English PDF manuals, start up docs on the web. Have done my first AS 4.1 sync, no problems. Installed a few programs so far, no problems.
Had to checked for EDGE in Austin, TX so set up an APN connection of internet3.voicestream.com and times connect speeds at 81.6Kbps (10KBps) using www.texan.com/speed.htm. This seems higher than my GPRS connect specs I had recorded on my XDA II at 45Kbps - 52Kbps.
Questions:
A Qtek ROM/Radio was loaded on this unit even though it's TMO. ImportGSM customer service says it's a better ROM at the moment for Wizard units that they stock. The i-mates are hard to come by he said.
1) How do I check that the speed slow down items, I've read about (virus scanner, etc) are installed and/or running? Then, naturally, how to eliminate them.
2) Here's my ROM/Radio specs for Qtek:
ROM: 1.1.7.5 dated 9/22/05
Radio: 1.1.10.0
Protocol: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM: 1.1.7.105
Given that, what's the XDA communities recommedation on upgrading ROM/Radio? Is this an "old" ROM/Radio"? Should I wait longer to upgrade? Should I go with i-mate's latest, do a Qtek upgrade, use TMO ... ??? Thoughts gentlemen?
I'm comfortable with EXE upgrades but not RAR upgrades but could, in a pinch, do it.
Craig
Sorry guys to bug you but i need your help. How can i revert back to
Qtek_9100 old rom 1.6.7.1 after upgrading to 2.8.7.102?I downloaded a new 1.6.7.1 ROM, tried that several times and it kept on telling me that I'm using a newer ROM therefore an upgrade is not possible.Could you outline to me or point me to a detailed info for downgrading cause the new ROM is not stable on my device(Qtek 9100).It keeps on rebooting even during a call and when i'm running other applications.
I'd appreciate your kind help.Thanks a mil.
I have a similar problem. Except I need to go back to my original tmobile MDA ROM. A2DP works fine, but nothing else is working for me. How can I go back?

Did you backup your original rom? Also is aWizard not letting you go back to your previous rom? I have posted the production T-Mobile USA ROM in a different post on the board if you don't have your old ROM.
I am also curious what the issues are you are having as I have been wondering about trying the test ROM on a USA unit for T-Mobile going from 1.x to 2.x as you did.
I could use a link to the TMO USA MDA ROM just in case I need to exchange the machine. That said, I am having absolutely NO problems with the QTEK TEST ROM. However, I did lvlolvlo's trick and after I had flashed the new ROM, when it said that in 3 seconds it would install the extended ROM, I quickly soft-reset, and then installed the extended ROM stuff from TMobile. This automatically set up my internet, and made the email triggers a snap. I can now use my Motorola STEREO bluetooth headset (even has a mic for the phone). As an added bonus, with the TMO ROM, I was unable to have both MortButtons and MS VoiceCommand installed simultaneously (something about the startup folder), but with the QTEK ROM they both work.
You know, I came from the 6315, and this machine is FLAWLESS ... really a top-notch device, with the QTEK ROM, it is even better.
If you would like me to test out any functionality with this configuration, let me know, I'd be happy to test it out.
Can you get me that link to the original TMO ROM just in case?
I posted this not too long ago. It has the main rom and a link to the extended rom.

The reason I ask about your functionality is that you said your bluetooth stereo profile was working now but nothing else was? I am tempted to switch to the newer rom but not without some assurance it works semi decently. I am mainly interested in the Radio rom upgrade as mine seems to take a while to re-obtain a signal once it is lost and it ocassionally appears to not accept calls (going to voicemail) even though it has signal strength.
I am interested in upgrading from 2003SE. I have a PDA2K with the versions specified in my signature. Here's what I do with my device in order of importance:
1. Phone
2. Bluetooth headset for phone usage (Motorola HS850)
3. PDA sync with Windows/Outlook for calendar, email, etc
4. GPRS for IMAP email reading, downloading of pocket weather info, etc.
5. TomTom with a Bluetooth GPS
6. Solitaire / games
My current device is fairly stable and does not require a reboot more than about once a week. The phone functionality works well and I can hear the other person, they can hear me, etc. Bluetooth isn't great, but I don't think anyone with this device can say it is great.
I am an experienced user/upgrader and can perform all upgrade steps, I just don't want to have to muck with it on a regular basis once it's upgraded. I'd like to stick to every-six-months type of upgrade cycles.
That being said, what is currently the best upgrade ROM in terms of speed, functionality, and most importantly stability? I have read many posts and can tell which is the NEWEST, but not necessarily which is the most stable.
Thanks in advance.

I think that the best rom for you is T-Mobile 1.42
For the things you want to do the fastest speeds you can gain with 2003 SE, WM5 does not meet your requrements for OS
You can always choose difrend rom from here
T-Mobile 1.42
the T-Mobile 1.42 ROM does it have to be a stateside pda? or can it work on my unlocked QTEK9090 that i bought here in italy. And will it work when i got back to the states in a few years?
It will work everywhere, only problem with uprading that you may have is that you may have to flash the rom using MaUpgradeUt_NOID, which disables the check for an operator
Interesting
Interesting, so you think an upgrade to the T-Mobile W2K3 ROM is better than moving to a WM5-based system, such as TuMa 1.4? I was hoping the WM5 stuff was stable enough to use on a daily basis.
I'll check out the T-Mobile and a radio upgrade since I have fallen behind in that area. I'd like to hear more thoughts about WM5 and the various versions out there.
Thanks for the responses.
The T-Mobile 1.42 ROM is from t-mobile.nl, so it loads in dutch on first start up but is written in WWE so you just go into the regional settings and choose whatever language you want.
I have found it to be very stable, I do a soft reset maybe once a week and that is usually just to regain the sd slot, it tends to say empty even though there is a 1gb card in it.
Only problems I seem to have with this are the BT doesn't like to turn on, you get the insufficient memory error, so I leave BT on all the time, and the wifi usually requires a soft reset to enable, which for me is ok because I do not use it that often.
I have not had to do a hard reset since upgrading to this ROM, it has been so reliable for me that I am very hesitant to upgrade to WM5. I just don't think I would gain anything from upgrading. though I am sure i will eventually.
Hi,
I have a XDA mini S (G4). Every time I flash the Phone with a WM6 ROM there are Problems with the Radio (It takes much longer to connect to the Network and the reception is not so good), the Bluetooth doesn't work correctly, everything runs slower and sometimes the OS just crashes. There is only one good thing about WM6: it looks much prettier. Now i want to flash the original O2 WM5 back, but at first I want to remove the JUNK O2 added to the OS. Now I'm searching for a program to modify WM5 ROMs, but I need some advice, I don't want to ruin my phone.
Are you in the UK?
Hi, I assume that you are in the UK since you mention O2 and mini s. Also, what WM6 rom are u using? I have just put XM6r5.1 on my uk mini s (both G3 and G4) and upgraded the radio to the T-Mobile 2.19.11 UK This works (so far) perfectly. (On contract and pay&go). May I suggest that you have another try before you give up and return to WM5. I am a noob, so this may be wrong, but I think the O2 stuff you mention is in the extended rom and unlocking this is not possible on a G4. There might be some way to prevent the OS from using it but for that answer you need an expert! Best regards
