OK, since it seems the camera is within range, this is the final piece for me. I'm gonna give my BA to my wife in a few weeks, when I get a Wizard for myself, and she's a typical woman - dirty MMS messages to and from her girlfriends galore! I particularly remember one with the female Smurf and a man the size of John Holmes, but I digress. Is there a chance this will be fixed, so it's possible to send MMS messages?
Thanks in advance, and thank you for making this possible!
yeah this is one of the things I downgraded back to 2003se for. I use mms all the time and could not find any way to do it with 2005
I never use it, but if my wife's gonna take over this unit, it has to be there.
Your wife won't be needing WM 5.0 I guess I suggest that you downgrade to the 1.40 ROM, preferrably the i-Mate one.
If you still need WM 5.0, have some patience and things will start to get better as it is happening day after day.
As soon as we have a upgrade from a universal ou a rom backup i think we are going to get a mms client for our devices...
Wouldn't a Wizard ROM work as well?

Have you tried: Pixar, EzWAP or MMSd?
No, I didn't know that third party software for MMS excisted...
Edit: The only one I find on the Net is EZWap, and that costs 49 dollars, and hasn't even got a test period! Besides it hasn't been upgraded since 2004, so I don't trust it. Where do I find the others?

waiting on mine to get here today (took the day off work and all that). I tracked the package when I woke up, and it said incorrect address. so I call the shipping company, confirm my address, and the lady asks "and the name of the business is tytn?". I was upset when I called in, but that made me do an ell oh ell.

I am very excited to join the Kaiser community as well. I have parted the Athena community and I am glad I got rid of the Athena. I will still continue to help people in the Athena community but Kaiser is where my heart remains. I will stay tuned for HTC Omni. So what should we all new Kaiser users start off by doing? SuperCID unlock? Or is that unecessary for custom ROM usage?

Welcome aboard!
Are you using this X-Button? Checking it out it seems that it's got a OK/X Bug? Can you verify?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330046&highlight=HTC+X-Button
For black keyboard, I was turned on the Resco Keyboard Pro, very nice on-screen keyboard!, very flexible/skinnable, with calculator
I've applied JJ's Black theme, Black Dialer, Schaps Com Manager and am loving my Kaiser, a nice evolution from Hermes.
The only function I really miss is Vjay Lumos, we really need a mappable display bright toggle key. The Kaiser's screen is not transreflective and a brightness "bump" would be very helpful while out and about outdoors.

Welcome Duttythroy! I hope you are planning to do some cooking on the Kaiser...your help in tweaking the ROMs would be greatly appreciated. I haven't made any customizations on mine yet (other than changing the WM skin and installing a crapload of software).
The CommMgr one is the one I want the most. I want one that just essentially adds the 3G button to the existing one in the open space on the window. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it stock at this point. But I'm sure new cooked ROMs will add lots of tweaks that will make it even better...

Agree about the PIE bug.
GPS - I wonder whether it's worth a hard reset and a re-run of the quick GPS for you. I only say this cos mine, even indoors is very good at holding a signal using tomtom at least.

Same here. No problems with GPS. Amazing work with TomTom

Its 18 months or so since I joined this forum, and it was because of my new MDA Vario II.
I'm now due for an upgrade, and there is only one phone I want - the III.
So, tell me - what should I do? I'm so confused and disapointed. I use my Vario II to stream YouTube video and surf the web, and from what I've seen, the III isn't up to it.
Please tell me I'm wrong and I should call for my upgrade tomorrow !!!!

Get the kaiser
Seriously, do you want to buy mine off me / swap? T-mobile branded, but you can flash / do what you like with it.
I really can't use it as an everyday phone. On another forum (hexus.net) the guy said simply - it's not a phone as such. It's a tool for techs / devs or whatever who need the extra functions. But for a phone it lacks in many usability ways that your average nokia / SE / samsung does not. It's a shame really, the device has so much potential to be awesome, it's completely the software side of things that lets it down.
It has dropped a fair few useful features from WM5 / earlier versions too - like having a t9 text input rather than a touchscreen keyboard. Now you *have* to get the stylus out if you want to send a quick message without altering from portrait to landscape to use the hard keyboard, which takes around 2 - 3 seconds anyway for the hardware to redraw it.
Looks like HTC are working on the vids driver issue. Someone has suggested a patch in feb/march. Have a read of some of the posts on it.

Yea I read that. But also read a post saying that there is no driver due for release since there is no ATI Imageon hardware built in to have drivers for. Who knows? There comes a point where you need to say you've had a product that hasn't delivered what you expected for long enough. However, it is full of features so maybe a good choice. But if I was buying right now with the knowledge I have now I'd probably not get a smart phone but something nice and simple that could perfectly perform the duties I wanted it to
So short answer: it's up to you
Thanks for that feedback guys. I'm pretty use to my MDA and its functionality, even though making a call can be sometimes difficult.
So, is video playback as bad as is mentioned?
Also, I use voice dialing and the hands-free speaker. Are these functions on the III?
cheers guys,
Ratzz
I watch youtube on mine all the time. I think it is just fine. I have been using the Kaiser now for 5 months and I love it and would not make another choice.
kaiser really is something
Yes those feature are in it out of the box. U should get one. All in all, it is the best pda out yet. I personally love mine, and with the right rom u can make it fly. It doesnt have problems with any 320X240 video, and with the new coreplayer 1.1.3 not even with bigger ones so get it. It's a great pda phone!

The Vario II is the HTC Hermes. Have a look here at the upgrading forum. There are some stickies on HardSPL, which you must follow before upgrading the ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=306
Can Shift make a call???
No, it can't, unless you use Skype etc.
Hopefully, in time, a solution will be found - it will require a cooked ROM, but until a way is found to get access to the Snapvue side, it's not going to happen.
snapvue would actually be very very usefull with calling and full wm6.1 running. as it is, mmmmm ive been trying to think how i would use snap view at all...................i get all my mail on my treo 750, heh my treo has more functionaily than snapvue wm.
Uhm...really I can't understand this kind of commercial policy. I remember when Shift was supposed with two complete OS on board. In that case I'd have bought it, but now really I will not.

Now that we have broken down the walls of snapvue and have access to full wm6 (minus gps, calling, sd card and wifi) it has become a much more useful device.
I think the first thing to be addressed is the sd card slot, without storage we are limited in what we can use it for.
you do realize ATD was a joke it of course works to initiate a call, but a bit more is needed than that (assuming you want to use a real program for the phone), but no worries. as for when Olipro can get a shift... he and me are part of the shift project, so let's hope that project works out.
No chance!
Very bad...I have Shift /2 pcs/ ,there is option call, but when i tap the screen, device do nothing....I hope ...developers will give us some solution.....?!

Is there any way to configure automatic sms resend?
I've found that if the message is not send due to coverage conditions or simply by failure, then it stays that way until you manually resend it.
If windows mobile does not include this, then, is there any app that will help me out with this?
Thanks!
this is my problem too..
It's a great point. I would also love to see a fix for this. Nokia N95 and others work well by rescheduling unsent messages for 5 minutes later.
I've been searching for ages but haven't found a way to do this yet.
Would be really handy if this was possible.
Agreed, I'm used to this on every single phone I've had and was shocked when I discovered a whole folder full of unsent when I got this phone - particularly after insisting to people I had sent the messages!
So we all agree the diamonds signal is crap? lol
i have just got my diamond and not yet been to my place of work with it looks like i am going to get this problem as the signal is already crap
gary
One thing I have found with the diamond is that holding your hand over the ariel (the top rear of the phone) really does make a difference!
Hope this helps you a little
You guys should try and test out some different radios. Check the Radio thread in ROM Development.
I tried them all and .07 is best for me, but that might not be best for you depending on your carrier, etc. Some radios give better reception but might chew your battery more, I guess it's a tradeoff (maybe).
I think once you find the best one for you it will be all good. I think the Diamond reception is fine!! I don't really have any problems with it.

eh, its new and exciting. its flashy where regular touch flo is starting to get dull. the main reason i was excited for it though was because maybe it will support full landscape. does anyone know it it will? because the only reason i don't use 2.5 was because of the landscape issues, mostly because of the problems it created with SMSing. another thing was that texts would come in and it wouldn't give the contact that sent it, just the phone number, so when i replied it would have two separate threads for outgoing and incoming and i wouldn't even be able to see the incoming. I haven't used a 2.5 rom in a while though so some of these issues could have been resolved by now.

I dont have any landscape issues using Smaberg's Touch X ULTIMATE X-TREME 10.1 FINAL, even in landscape with SMSing. SMS through touch flo is threaded and works perfectly (and via the standard windows threaded interface too) although i am waiting for the new front screen. Looks quite useful, though i dont mind the current 2.5 screen in the boring black/grey as its all in the same theme

It is maybe why you don't have all the issues related to manila 2.5...
I hadn't realised there was a 2.6 until I came across this thread. Then I saw the video of it and it looks much more polished than the ROMs that have recently been released. If they've sorted out the SMS issues and general stability then this one will be well worth waiting for.

I am interested, but not THAT insterested. Strange how it is necessary to have a fixed car in order to develop a ROM.... and we are expected to pay for an untested ROM?
I agree that developing a nice ROM is work that is worth paying for, but only if the ROM is usable and we can't know that before we have tested it...
Wrong way around.. release the ROM and let people donate. We are not your employers.
rotastrain, thank you for putting effort in to get us new stuff!
You are one tight ass $300 lol you gotta be kidding.
Only my humble opinion, but I have a real problem with udK's stance on this. I know there is effort involved in cooking the ROM and making sure if things are compatible, but ultimately he just only providing access to HTC's software. To monopolise it to his advantage - which he seems to be doing - is wrong.
It seems quite a few people are donating $5 at a pop - that'll mean 60 people will need to do so in order for the ROM to be released. What if only 50 donate?
Kudos to the chefs who gracefully accept donations based on their hard work rather than expecting prior payment on nothing more than a promise. Out.
