anybody know hoe to change BOOT splash image on WM5 ?????
Hmm, I tried the solution from Buzz - but haven't worked for me. Another chance would be "Promasters Autoinstaller". A small proggi, made by a german freak. All Ext. Rom Cab's from different providers are included, but I hadn't enouth space to install the whole cab files. I'll try it maybe today evening. There are the splash images from VF, O2, T-Mob etc. included, and you can change them with only one click.

So your saying to try it with a wm2003 splash screen for the angel, well i can give it a try, i think i skipped this one due all the commotion of this release 8)
I tried an tried it again. but nothing worked.
But the facts for me are now:
- Splash screen is not stored in the /my documents folder like wm2003
- External rom is only 128k, and not a couple of mb's
- Himalaya Splash screens are stored on the extended rom. they still have one.
- Jasjar Splash screen heard nobody complaining, and they have also a extended rom.
So i think i downgrade this weekend back to wm2003, create a extended rom of a few mb's
going back to wm2005, make my extended rom visible and try it again, i cannot figure out another way to do it, and if it not works,
wow, that's a lot of work dude, but maybe, just maybe, the procedure for the himalaya is the same with the BA, problem is, the BA has such a small extended, unless there is way to save my sms on my phone now, I don't even want to dare to downgrade at the moment (have alot of important messages), oh well, good luck then!
8)
Thanx.,
Think that this is the common way, the already used "made" screens for hima 1.60 and already tried it again, if you are reffering to /windows directory, it is not working for me.
What rests, anybody??
Still looking,
But anybody able to find a .nb file on his system?
I searched, but was not able to find something with splash or .nb on my system,Even not after i installed a screen,.
Where the hack supposes this to be stored, or whats the possible extention for it, or can we patch something with the bootloader to fix it? buzz? mamaich? anybody?
I think we are going to have a problem with this build of WM5 as far as the splash screen is concerned - looking through the boot code it seems as though the boot screen is generated programatically reather than from a bitmap in ANY memory area (Entirely generated in the CE ROM code area rather than referring to ext rom area as there isn't one!)!
There is a lot of test code in the bootstrap area from HTC and references to other HTC devices!?! - This is definitely a work in progress rather than any kind of complete WM5 build....
Without re-writing the bootstrap code I do not think we will be seeing nice splash screens on this version of WM5 .... Lets hope HTC are still tinkering with it .... I will post the decoded nk.nbf (nk.nba) file here if anyone is brave enough to hex edit it or try to re-write the bootstrap code (then again if you can do that I'm sure you are able to do a simple decode of the rom as well)

Hi All,
I've managed to get into my PDA2K's extended ROM, and fill it with my desired cabs.
What I need to know, is how to make an image of that EXROM and deploy it to, say, 500 devices. Without having to unlock, load, the extended ROM on each individual device.
I guess, I need to make an .EXE file (or MS_.nbf), kind of like WM2003 Rom editor style, so I can just cradle the device, and flash the extended ROM.
Does anyone have any idea at all how I can do this?
thanks in advance !
One of the guys who is occasionally around here is working on this. Maybe a while yet.....
I'm working on it with Sprite Clone ( http://www.spritesoftware.com )
this looks like it may work.
It's not ideal, however, as it's not free
i'll post my results though.
So will still can't build a MS_.nbf file? I have a few Orange PDA's and Orange UK are being soo slow about the upgrades that I want to use my own image.
Am I stuck doing each one manually?
Thanks..
Scott
Hum, that would be nice, cooking your own nbf's.
sjrixon
post or pm ftp link of rar file of cooked extended rom, add no extras,
confirm that you have tested this with hard reset,
confirm that you will install ndf at own risk,
confirm that you have ship.exe file to reflash device if it goes wrong
Hey guys, before anything please let me thank you for this amazing site. You have made a complete n00b to a power-user in 2 days flat. Please do allow me to tell you my story. 2 Days ago I got this thing called O2 XDA IIs (HTC Blueangel) and I got it for around 300US$ (Unlocked/New) was not so fond of Windows devices so intended to sell it off asap and get some other phone, was just doing a little R&D on the net to see what all is available for this thing. When I came across to your site, here's when I got so intregued by the capabilities of this thing.
First I intalled the latest ROM for my device, after getting little confidence I installed WM5 with my fingers crossed. Its all done now but have a few things to ask you guys.
1. When you mentioned about the EXTROM you said that you'll have to copy the files on the StorageCard\ExtRom when all I did was copy nk.nbf into the folder called WM5_Pack_V3 and ran the installer. I did run the batch file to get the oper_code from the DeviceData file. It was all done, I was really scared but now am worried did I do the right thing?
The Device Information TAB shows
ROM Version : 5.03.02WWE
ROM Date : 03/02/05
Radio Version : 1.12.00
Protocol Ver : 1337.42
ExtRom Ver : TuMa v1.3
2. It took me long enough to install this what all tweaks should I do to it so that it stays at the maximum bug-free current stage. (Hope you get me)
3. I need the starting screen to display something other then those scary 3 colored lines
Some things that I noticed after upgrading:
1. WM5 It's a little slow, but definately much better looking and show-off value.
2. I have a Wi-Fi enabled ADSL router at home by which I connect the O2 and other devices its working fine on.
Any help/suggestions/comments are welcome.
A brief intro for me would be have worked as a beta tester for many symbian application providers, was a complete S60 geek and am majorly into bikes & bike photography
Nothing said yet?
Im not sure I understand that whole Extrom deal, but what I can say is that the files that were in the extrom folder inside the upgrade pack must be put in the storage card in the same folder, but that is only if you want MMS and have a camera, if not, then there is nothing to do, unless you edit the Cfg.txt to load all your apps and settings after a hard reset. I guess that if you are able to use the device, you did everything ok as far as the flashing goes. it is a little slow, but its come a long way from the first versions, those were slow as hell, thanks to Mamaich and Tuatara and everyone else this version is running great!
as for the 3 color bar start up screen, there is nothing you can do about it...
Yeah I really forgot to thank Mamaich and Tuatara for their awesome work, now I am really scared as I dont like the slow response and am unable to downgrade. ActiveSync shuts down whenever I try to run the MaUpgradenoID.exe file activesync stops and it is giving errors in connecting, gets DC frequently. And moreover the Manufacturer supplied upgrade is also not working it gives a CountryCode error. Am really confused and scared now what to do?
Well I did not get any help but with loads of tinkering I got the thing done, I wanted to know why was WM5 so slow, otherwise the interface is loads better then the current CE I am using.
I have the Cingular version SX66 Blue Angel. I was able to update it without any problems. Usually speed is very different with those who flush the registry and with those who don't. Make sure you flush your registry after you completed the update.
Mine is faster and way more stable than the other version I had on it. Remember to follow all instructions exactly. if there is a link you need to check and make sure you do the format, change the ram size on the device, then upgrade.
There are no instructions on how to flush the registry can you enlighten me on this?

During the flashing process, the wiki instructs the user to do a hard reset
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_HardReset
You should answer NO, YES, YES to the boot questions.
Hmm yeah, I did do that. And just am in the process of downgrading from the buggy WM5. It doesn't work out for me.
and THAT'S where I got problems!
in the manual, it says I have to download my latest favorite ROM version, and FROM that file i should copy the nk.nbf the "DOWNGRADE TO WM2003SE" folder..and that's what seems impossible to me, since the Rom-update i downloaded is an .exe application, and not a .zip or .rar archive..
so how should i get the nk.nbf file out of the Rom-update .exe file..?
help
well some were in the same documentaion it should also say use rar or zip to unpack it (being the exe file).
Pls spend some time in wiki you might find some other answers
yeah i had tried that already back then butthat didn't work either..when i try that it still just starts running the program.. :?
Try these instructions with your exe file:

Ok well no one seems to be replying to my question about dumping my orange rom so lets try this instead.
How would i go about saving my orange homescreen so i can put it back once i have upgraded my m700 to the dopod rom.
Or, am i being stupid coz im sort of thinking that maybe the orange customization that runs on first setup is in the ext rom which will stay behind on the upgrade and i will therefore get all my orange stuff still
????? dont really know
Please help i really wanna upgrade my rom but i keep backing out until i can get these things sorted.
thanks all.

In the extROM of GPS enabled ROM, I can see this file : PT_WA_Abaxia.CAB which is related to this Orange customization. But I think that some parts of this Today plug'in are embedded with the OS itself.

On my Dopod rom I'm using the orange customisation from the Hermes ,the cab is HERMES_RO_BUILD_93_CLOCK.CAB,and it's working quite well except for the speed dial.
I think that the abaxia cab our friend mentions in the previous post should do the job.

How big is this file ?
mine is around 100KB I think (I'm at work now, can't check how big it is exactly)
Hi everyone.
in my ext rom on my trinity i have the file PT_WA_Abaxia. I order to test whether my ext rom had the correct stuff i hard reset my hermes and installed my trininty ext rom but this didnt seem to install the homescreen. Saying that though it wouldnt let me run the autorun so i had to install the cabs individually.
The hermes homescreen is older than the trinity one. I have never been a big fan of the orange homescreen but the trinity one is quite nice. You can add vip contacts which show up straight in the homescreen rather than having to use the speeddial thing, the background pic changes depending on whether the phone is on silent, vidrate or ring. All in all a but nicer than the hermes one.
more testing
right on my hermes which was factory settings including all orange customization i tried installing the cab PT_WA_Abaxia. didnt seem to do a huge amount.
I then renamed the old DIL_APP folder and copied this folder from my trinity.
I also copied the DIL_PLUGIN.dll from the windows folder on my trinity onto my hermes. Then i soft reset and my trinity homescreen is now on my hermes and all works fine.
So now i need to know how to get my trinity homescreen onto my trinity without the original orange customization.
When i was playing with my hermes last night i tried not installing the orange customization as this then seemed to allow phonepad to work. I then tried the same steps as i did above and i could get the homescreen to show up in the list. Therefore i can only assume that i would need to run the hermes cab to install the original orange screen and then rename it and stuff like i did above.
So in summary, i would need to save the hermes homescreen cab, and the dil folder and the dll file of my trinity. Flash my trinity with the dopod rom. Install the hermes homescreen using the cab. Rename the folder and copy the trinity one across and copy the dll file into the windows folder and all should be done.
Anyone got a better way, while i go off and test my theory.

thanks for that, i saved it off the hermes. getting good at this unhiding my ext rom malarky.
anyway. i tested my plan and it worked on my hermes.
I hard reset
didnt do orange ext
installed the cab file HERMES_UK_BUILD_93_CLOCK
renamed the dil folder and copied the trinity one in
copied the dll into the windows folder
and hey presto
porbably a bit of a long winded way but it worked.
Hi,
How are you sure Orange wont know yourve flashed the rom?
Also how do you prevent the orange customization after hard reset on the trinity?
Thanks
Warny
well this is the problem. If orange check then they will know we have flashed the rom. That is why i want to be able to re flash back to the orange rom if i need to.
Easiest way to stop the customization on any device is to soft reset just before it starts, when windows loads up the first time on it you will see a little window saying customization will start in 3 sec or something. Just soft reset then and the customization will not run.
So far though i havent found any real reason not to run it on the trinity though. If i dont run it on my hermes at least i can get phonepad to work but no such luck on the trinity.
just to clarify, this post
----------------------------------------------------
I hard reset
didnt do orange ext
installed the cab file HERMES_UK_BUILD_93_CLOCK
renamed the dil folder and copied the trinity one in
copied the dll into the windows folder

----------------------------------------------------
was testing that if we flashed to the dopod rom which has phonepad built in, this is how we could get our orange home screen back.
The second line about not doing the orange ext was really just proof of concept that the process would work even if we didnt have the ext rom installed.
I dont know whether we will loose the orange ext rom when we update to the dopod rom but this was proving that even if we do we can still get all the orange customization back again.

OK I was hoping it would allow phonepad. So if you flash back the original rom is there any way they can tell? How close are you to doing this on your trinity? Thanks, Warny
well if we could flash back to original then they would not be able to tell. The problem is is that there is not a dumped version of the original orange rom. Therefore if we flash to the dopod rom we have no way of going back to the orange rom unless someone dumps it for us.
Realisticly there is no reason not to flash the dopod rom because we shouldnt loose anything but we gain phonepad. I do worry a bit about the fact that i cant go back again.
if you wanted to send the phone back though then orange would see that the bootscreen had changed after you have flashed to the dopod and might not be too impressed, saying that. If we flash to the dopod and we get phonepad and all our orange stuff then why would we want to send the phone back.
Oh decisions decisions

Hi,
OK i see. It seems from your post about your hermes that it might be possible to make the phone *look* like it has the original rom? (sorry Im half asleep today).
Are you considering trying the process out on the trinity then? (ill wait for you if so lol)
Also it voids the warranty so if it broke it would be nice to reflash to orignal rom so they cant avoid fixing it dont you think?

Yeah thats what i mean.
I am very tempted i just keep bottling it.
You are right also about the warranty
If there was an orange rom available i would do it without a thought.

good thinking Warny, right i tried it and it appeared to work. I created a 128mb image. The big question is. Has it worked. We need someone to test my image. Or at least tell me how i can check it has worked and how er can create a rom from it.
Oh crap, just realised. Wrong phone. im using my hermes. god damn it.
Well it worked on that. I will try it on my Trinity but i need to go and get a mini sd card now.
Anyway still need the answers to above bits for when i make the trinity image
getting a bit rommy in here

lets take this rom dumping discussion over into my other thread, might have more chance of getting answered . I have copied our last coments over there.

I've finally cracked it!
Big thanks to everyone on here
Problem is I'm trying to upload it to the XDA Developers FTP site and I keep getting an access denied message, any ideas why?
And I've not tested the ROM myself yet ... so if anyone wants to test it for me feel free, I've just about got mine working properly with mUns 1.25TE ROM so I'm not sure what to do.
The main reason I dumped it was for someone to work out which files are hidden inside the ROM that Orange have put there for the user agent identification so that you can access all the online gubbins on the Orangeworld website - especially the 3G TV stuff ... ?
Doh! Forgot to say that it is an NBH file at the moment, I'm assuming thats all thats needed ...
I hope this is useable by someone with little to no intelligence. I've been waiting for a UK M700 Orange ROM for yonks. Once it's tested by people braver than me, I can finally have a go with these WM6 ROMS everyone's bashing on about.

I suggest you upload it to a different location. If you haven't noticed it all ROM's had to be removed due to Microsoft.
Keep the forum alive and upload it somewhere else! It seems allright to post the URL here tough

I use megaupload.com as it's quick and doesn't seem to come up with the "you have reached your download limit" warnings that rapidshare does to anyone who's connecting through a transparent (ISP) proxy.
Uploaded
The NBH file is ready for downloading from Megaupload -
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MKAVR0SY
I've compressed it into a .7z file as its about the best compression around
Hope it helps both the development of Roms and people who want a backup for a UK M700 ... and I hope I've dumped it correctly!
Yay. Thanks loads
Ok i can confirm that this rom is FUBAR! It does not boot so dont flash it
FUBAR?
I followed all the instructions from the Wiki on how to dump and then reconstruct it, if its failed then I'll try it again as I've got all the parts of the dump on my PC .....
I could just upload the Part02.raw file and let everyone rebuild it themselves? I had trouble with the buildimgfs.exe stage so I used APOCs rom bat files to build the NBH instead
Looks like files I used from APOC seem to mix together the dump directory I made from the M700 with another NBH file I had, which leaves me stuck really as I've used viewimgfs and created a dump directory but buildimgfs refuses to work so I cant get any further in trying another build ... any help muchly appreciated
FUBAR just means Fu**ed up beyond all recognition. And by no means do i mean that as an insult to your rom building. Your doing 100% better than me
After flashing it just hung at the splash screen and took 8 attempts to flash
it back directly from the bootloader (hard spl).
i dont have a clue how to reconstruct a rom so i cant help but probably mun_rus or lvsw could help.
Success part 2
no offence taken
I might have had success now, I think the problems I was having with buildimgfs was because my imgfs_raw.bin was corrupted so I've jsut gone through everything again and its worked exactly as the instructions say so ..... which means that I think I've now made a proper ROM so I'll upload this to megaupload again and let you guys have a bash at it and I'll post the URL shortly
--- URL ---

Fingers crossed this should be a workin ROM now
anyone tried this yet?

Ermmmm.... how ?
same here!
My first post after reading for 10 hours looking for the right answer...
I guess the answer is out there but I just can't find it so please don't kill me....
I am trying to upgrade my Qtek 9090 (Blue Angel) to WM5. I've been very careful not to destroy my toy, and when trying to flash I stop, many times now and with different ROM's.
The problem:
When running MaUpgradeUt_noID on my screen it looks like the program shall fetch out data from my device, Rom version, ext rom, radio etc. It should also tell what versions to upgrade to, the only thing there is rom to be upgraded to, not ext. rom or radio.
I cut it there, afraid of ruining my device.
There is no "how to for dummies" with screenshots but I think I do it right, putting the device into bootloader mode and the screen said USB.
Is it just me and/or my device or can anybody help me out here?
What windows version you´re using?
Depending on the ROM you are uploading the screen can show many different things. But NOID version with WM5 used with BlueAngel shows ONLY sth like 5.xx.xx in new rom version and all other fields are empty - this looks odd but this is normal.
