Hi all, i'm from UK using O2 xda IIi. I was wondering anyone able to remove the O2's default software Mobile solutions SRL O2ActiveUI...?
It really slow down my ppc alot. Furthermore the logo 'o2' beside the start button was kinda screwed up after i install spb pocket plus.
Hey let me know if you have any problems with pocketplus - I used wisbar advance for a while but then realised it messed up the phone features of my 2i. Now I'm thinking of getting pocketplus but don't want it doing the same.
no it didnt screw up the UI it's still nice. Just that when you use the o2 ActiveUI program it will minimize ur pocket plus UI to the right side thus making it out of shape. But if you use the windows mobile today's screen it works pretty fine.
Except the o2 logo beside the start button at the top looks pretty screwed, it seems as if the image didn't refresh. Anyway, anyone knows how to uninstall the software completely?
hi yes u can ermove it completley but u have to hard reset and as soon as the screen comes back on saing installing software do a normal reset then let it run as normal . This way it removes all the O2 stuff apart from the splash screen, you probably want to make a note of your GPRS settings as they r not re installed.
u mean i have to hard reset it? i dont quite get u. Can i remove it by entering the safe mode? how do i enter safe mode with windows mobile?
You can remove PART of it by entering safe mode. I used safe mode from here:
http://www.monocube.com/forums/about50.html
On my old XDA II I could un-install the O2 software easily, you just went to remove programs.
Its best to close ALL tasks first, and then you have to manualy delete a few files after, but its all gone then.
Dont know if the new one is worse as dont have the phone yet.
so does it means after i have completely uninstall o2 activeUI i wont suffer such lags? btw, does it affects my battery life? it seems to drain very quickly. How fast it drops for every 10%?
remove the o2active file at /windows/startup
then do a soft reset, after that u can uninstall it from remove programs
thanks
the o2 active is not even there in the start up but whenever i soft reset the o2 logo beside the start button reappears...
ok i manage to uninstall it..thank you...but it seems apparently slow...
do u mean i shouldn't install my software in the memory? What software do i install in the memory and what i should install in the storage or Sd card? pls give me some tips on this...

This is an issue to do with the way Windows Mobile renders icons - if there's an icon overlapping another icon, it sometimes has problems drawing both of them (for instance, if you download and install Switch, and then alter its horizontal placement in the app's Preferences so that it is overlapping with another icon, it'll do the same thing - it'll just turn into a white square instead of showing the icon, it's something to do with the way the machine handles transparency when drawing the icons).
If you want to move the O2 Active icon sideways, press and hold on it - a box will come up showing (what I think are) details of all the available active connections on your device. There's also a scrollbar with a small handle you can grab (clicking and holding whilst dragging from side to side) - you'll see what I mean when you do it, and basically if you move the slider to the left or the right, the O2 Active icon moves left or right with it. Handy little feature, that, if you want to keep the icon but hate its default placement.
It's useful to click and hold on icons sometimes, just to see what happens.
I removed O2 Active software and my XDA is now reliable, and much faster. I installed SPB Pocket Plus and have given it a very nice customised look.
This is how I removed O2 active without a hard reset:
1) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>startup.
2) Move the file called connections to another folder.
3) Navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
4) Rename the "xpdr_02" file to "xpdr_021".
5) Soft reset your phone.
6) Go to: Settings>system>remove programs.
7) Uninstall O2 active. You may get a message saying that files in the Windows directory are in use. If so, temporarily rename this files using ActiveSync file explorer from your computer and try again. Rename them back afterwards.
8) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
9) Rename the "xpdr_021" file back to "xpdr_02".
10) Navigate to: my device>windows>mobile solutions.
11) Move (cut and paste) the folder to somewhere else, I suggest the built in storage.
12) Soft reset the phone.
... Another way to do it, which only involves one step, is to remove the shortcut named "Connections" from the \Windows\Startup folder. That'll stop the O2 Active from loading, and it'll let you keep all the other O2 Active-related stuff installed (which can have its uses), though it won't load the O2 Active UI. Which I hate.

Most Probably The European or the British version of O2, already has Mobile Solutions SRL O2 Active ... installed. On such sets even O2 plus shall not run)
This is the problem which I faced ..It would Not let O2 Plus Run...
O2 Plus See link here ::
 http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaIImini/template/O2Plus.vm
The BEST way to remove this completely is......
by Going into Start> Programs> <INSTALL TYPE>
Here you have to choose CORPORATE.
There is a timer running here and you have just 20 seconds to make up your Mind.
The Option BASIC is already Highlighted.
Here you have to choose CORPORATE.
There is also a place for password here (5060 or 4050 is supposed to work)
But in my case Even feeding No password removed it !!
This Unistalls Mobile Solutions SRL O2 ActiveUI and lets O2 plus V2.00 run properly.
Thanx !!
I can run O2 Plus on my device (although I don't have the O2 Active UI running on it, I removed the shortcut and reset my device to stop it from loading at boot). Never tried loading O2 Plus with the Active UI running.
I thought O2 Plus v2.00 was only for Windows Mobile 5... Do you have a link to a version which will run on WM2003SE?

APPS O2 Active UI
POWER PROFILES ( A useful Feature)
O2 Active Ui takes around 4.5 Mb space in a wizard.
4.5 mb means a lot in the windows directory.
In case u don't intend using this ever, u can safely remove the <theme refresh> (o2 icon) from the \windows\startup folder.
Next go to \windows\mobilesolutions\ and simply delete the folder and perform a soft reset.
PLEASE PLEASE AND PLEASE do take a backup before u try anything stupid I suggest...
For others who dont have the O2 active Ui in their startups can simply browse to \windows\mobilesolutions\O2 Active Ui\O2 aui.exe (see below) and click on the exe there.
Thats all needed to turn it on.....
Try it for a day or two..
In case u want to remove it from the startup u can safely remove the <theme refresh> (o2 icon) from the \windows\startup folder.
 On second thoughts you can simply copy the MOBILE SOLUTIONS DIRECTORY to your Storage card or ur PC and restore it when needed....
After all 4.5 Mb extra space in the phone mem can do a lot...
Well, I've removed the O2 Active UI from my device several times in the past, I just never realised that it caused issues if you had it running whilst using the O2 Plus software.
Those screenshots confuse me a bit too, because the Alpine can't run WM5 (due to the hardware limitations), but then I suddenly figured out it was a Wizard
the easiest way to get rid of the all O2 stuff is to do a hard reset...
and then choose "Corporate" use instead of Personal use...
enter 0506 as the key...
then all O2 stuff will be gone!
clean...
Yeah, thanks for that - we did already know that though (and it's been mentioned many times on this forum )

Hi all,
I wonder which ROM is best for my XDA 2i?I use the Modified ROM V.1.11.00 WWE- Radio 1.03.00-ExtROM 1.11.162.However,the signal is not stable;I can't connect to GPRS as well(Im using O2 UK PAYG).
Re: ROM Upgrade
Hi, I've been looking into which is the best ROM, I was thinking of swapping to the I-mate PDA2 ROM. But the general feeling is the modified 02 with Radio 1.03. This is what I have put on mine and I'm on PayT vodafone UK, my GPRS worked fine after I installed the attached file.
Unless your loaded a word of warning Vodafone charge £7.50 for a 1Mb download of data on PayT!!!!!!!! I found this out after I had subscribed to TomTom Traffic on TTN 5.1, waste of my money now, GPRS too expensive, looking at other PayT deals ie. T-Mobile +£2.60 per Mb, although still too expensive. :x
Copy to XDA IIi. Access the copied file on your XDA IIi , click on it to run and it will install all the UK settings for Vodafone. Please keep a copy, as the install deletes itsself automatically.
Re: 02 PAYT Settings!
Sorry was half asleep when I wrote my original replay, which refers to vodafone not 02, please find the correct file for 02 PAYT attached.
are these the settings for the free GPRS on PAYT on O2 ?
or have they realised their error yet ?
hello,
i've been looking everywhere for the 02 paymonthly gprs settings, i tried the pay as you go settings, but it didnt seem to work.
i was on the phone to 02 for hours last time until we got it to sort of half work, but i had to hard reset when i updated my rom. i installed with corporate user, and now i dont have gprs settings again. anyone know how to do it?
much much appreciated!

How do you work with CAB files? Just double-click like an executable? What does this update to the GPRS do?? Will it affect my WiFI settings?

Again, do I simply double-click the CAB file to install the "registry" (if that is what happens)? And specifically, what will this O2_UK_PAYG file do to my settings? If I add something like the TMobile caller ID patch (another CAB file), how will that affect the general O2 settings of my XDA unit (I am a TMobile customer running under the O2 ROM)?

To run a CAB file just find it with File Explorer and click it. It will automatically be deleted afterwards
Your new settings should either overwrite the old ones or add an addition set of network settings that you then select as the defaults.

No worries chap, any more problems just shout!
As for the pictures etc, I would sooner do it properly once and refer people who ask in the future to there, than end up doing it over and over....
RE: 02 PAYT Cab file or Vodafone PAYt
To run the cab files, copy to your PDA and double click to run. These cabs just update the registry, it doesn't matter. As long as your PDA is SIM-Free, any carrier should work.
They are the official files from the IMATE website, which has cabs for most carriers including worldwide. You can only download these files from IMATE website if you have a registered device. They should work on all XDA or other brand names etc.
RE: Other Operater cabs
I have uploaded the rest of the available cabs for the UK carriers, contact and PAYT. So in combination with my earlier uploads, these are all the UK carrier settings for the UK
There are cabs for other countries and carriers available, let me know your carrier, contract (PAYT or Contract) And I will try to locate the correct cab file.
These are the offical cabs from IMATE. They only update your registry and nothing else. Copy to your PDA and click to run.
just one other thing, once the gprs connects, its stays on? how do u disconnect it - save battery? it used to end connection once mms was d/l or u/l and there was an option to disconnect when pressing on G icon?
small detail cos i can always soft reset or activate wireless, but would be handy, thanks again!

If you are a T-mobile cstomer, then I suggest you use the T-Mobile file I have uploaded, it is for T-Mobile contract users. It doesn't matter what ROM you have, it only sets up the gprs and wap settings, by writing to the registry on PDA.

Cab install Splash Screen Bonus!
Hi, all
I have had a look at the carrier cab installs, I uploaded and found out that you can change your splash screen with these cabs as well.
XDA IIi installation
Go to this link for instructions on how to create the 2 files you will need.
http://pocketpcdubai.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/582600994/m/138105069
They have the Windows program for conversion and some example jpg's or create your own Splash screen. This program runs on your PC.
In the program save your chosen jpg as twice as system1.nb and then repeat with same jpg and save as system2.nb.
Copy these files to your PDA Windows directory. Then copy the correct carrier cab file (listed earlier), click to run, it will then install/re-install your GPRS and WAP settings and update your splash screen, it will probably freeze, then do a soft reset and voila you will see your new splash screen. To change just repeat the process and overwrite your 2 files in windows directory with your new ones and use the cab again.
**Please note the GPRS cab files will only update your splash screen if you have copied the correct files to the windows directory on your pda.
If you do not want to change your splash screen, then simply run the cab file without copying/creating system1 or system2, and this will just install your chosen carrier internet settings etc**
One more thing I mentioned in an eariler post that the cabs update your GPRS and WAP, well they also install your MMS settings as well.
Enjoy
Splash install update
Sorry made a mistake on the save files not system1.nb/system2.nb.
The correct file names are splash1.nb and splash2.nb.
I have just reflashed the firmware on my UK Orange SPV M2000 after porting my mobile operator over to virgin mobile. i did this so i could remove the Operator customisations which were just taking up ram, and also to see if i could make my phone more reliable (one of my biggest bugbears is not being able to use Wifi without a soft reset) as a result i can switch on and of bluetooth and wifi at will without any errors, and i havent performed a soft reset because of a problem in 6 days (i have soft resetted after installing some programs as it was required by the prog)
I achieved by first downloading ftp://xda:/BlueAngel/BlueAngel_Roms/BA_1.40_radio_1.20_untested_extrom.rar and removing the Radio_.nbf file and flashing that to the phone.
once that was done i did a hard reset then flashed radion rom 1.13 as described here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Radio_1.13_Upgrade
I then downloaded all the files from here ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAn...ERK_1.4X_002/I-Mate_PDA2K_Ext_ROM_140176_WWE/ into a directory on my PC
I then deleted
Default_ImateV112.002.cab -> dont need it as i havent got an imate so dont need imate email
Default_Caller_ID_BA_AKU26_RC20.CAB -> i will explain why in a minute
Default_Fax_V2.09_WWE_0720.CAB -> havent got a need for faxes
Default_SkypeForPocketPC.CAB -> this is pants and so is skype
and then i then added cabs for the following programs prefixing them with the Default_ so they would install after hard reset
Voice command 1.5 for Phone edition -> i think every one uses this
Photo Contacts Pro v 3.01 -> This is fantastic beats the IA caller ID hands down
I then used the extrom unlocker and deleted all the files in the extended rom and then copied my downloaded files into it. the then locked and hid the extended rom again and then performed a hard reset
once that was done i added in the Virgin GPRS and MMS settings (If anyone wants help with this part for virgin settings let me know as i am working on creating a CAB file with these settings) and renamed device and added owner information.
There are two problems now, the first i can fix, the camera raises the backlight to full and then keeps it that way. i just deleted camera.exe from the windows directory and then replaced it with the camera app that was originally on the device (make a backup of this file b4 you start)
The only problem that is left is a problem that happened with WMP9 and WMP10 if music is playing and you close WMP then your device loses all sound. i dont know of a workaround for this, but i make sure i pause any music before i close the app, not a big thing really
I then loaded on these apps mainly into the storage memory except that specifically request you install them into main memory
SPB Pocket Plus 2.5
SPB weather
SPB Diary
Ewallet
Tomtom Navigator 5
Microsoft Reader
Pocket Mechanic
and last but not least my favourite game Virtual Pool Mobile v1.6
This doesnt sound like many apps but it suits my needs perfectly for the moment.
I then took a full backup onto SD........
and viola one ultra stable Orange SPV M2000
i hope it works for you too
I would do what i did when installing apps and install one at a time and test especially task managers and today screens as these use up driver memory, this is where the problem with the WIFI and bluetooth starts
and in case i dont see you good afternoon and good evening and goodnight (watched the trueman show again! )
Interesting and well detailed,
I then used the extrom unlocker and deleted all the files in the extended rom and then copied my downloaded files into it. the then locked and hid the extended rom again and then performed a hard reset

What i mean is i run the extended rom unlocker tools on the device by selecting unhide & unlock and then through activestink browse to the /extended rom folder and then delete the files and then copy the extended rom files from the pc and put in thier place.
i hope that clarifies it for you
and yes i can attch the file for download, but its on my other comp and because of a failed raid array i havent replaced yet it takes 20 mins to boot, so i will do it tommorow
Thanks, fuzzy. Looking forward to that
fuzzy,
Are you able to extract that exe file yet ?
Nvm, fuzzy.
Found the camera.exe HERE.
Hi Fuzzy,
Where did you get the cabs from for:
Voice command 1.5 for Phone edition ->
Photo Contacts Pro v 3.01 ->
Cheers
Yohanson
i got Voice command 1.5 with IRC on #pocketwarez on EFNET servers
and as for photo contacts i couldn't get it free so i ended up buying it (first pocketpc software i have bought ever, and to be blunt it was worth it for something that is used every time you recieve a call)
I have also incresed the number of programs by upgrading to latest versions of SPB programs and also added SPB time and SPB weather and i still have no problems with Wifi. it starts first time every time.
I have just bought 5 more of these phones but O2 XDA IIs so i will reflash these the same and then flog on ebay.
every one else who has one of these phones is jelous because it has been reliable as a rock since i did this, and i have still not experieced any problems since the flash, and i have not performed one soft reset because of a problem. i know a lot of you wont believe it but its true it has been rock solid for me. so i will test the same procedure on the five phones when get them and see if there are any differences
Great stuff!
I did something a little similar here.
I took the latest firmware and Extended firmware.
I then went through it and deleted everything I don't need.
Splash Screen, Clearvue stuff, Cingular settings, album, etc etc etc.. Although these would be neat programs... let's be honest... when it comes to the Blue Angel, less is more.
So right now, I'm pretty stable.
I don't put anything in the Protected ROM. I think a lot of apps don't like it.
We'll see how this goes!
Mike

Hi,
I'd be interested in everyone's comments re the slowdown caused by adding programs, and I guess others would too.
Part of it is normal caused by eating up the available memory, both storage (and ram?)
However I have found that some applications do not seem to work well on the XDA2i, even though they do actually work. The problem is that this only comes to light after a while, after you've actually shelled out the money for a product that seems fine.
I list below products that I have found work on my XDA2i and those that seem to irritate the XDA2i so that it gradually gets worse and needs a hard reset.
I have tried defragmenting, and believe that Pocket Mechanic works fine a few times then things grind to a halt.
I am not an expert, and obviously cannot prove that the products are faulty, so take what I list 'with a pinch of salt' - but it might be that others might add others or agree/disagree with my findings, and might be careful about thoughily testing before purchase.
1-Calc 2.3.1 seems fine
BIBLE WITH YOU for Pocket PC- GMPSoft seems fine.
Journal Bar seems fine
POCKET ARTIST seems fine
Pocket Controller- Professional 5.04 seems fine
POCKET DVD WIZARD seems fine
Pocket Streamer Pro seems fine
PocketBible - NIV Version by Laridian seems fine
RESCO EXPLORER 2005 seems fine
TCPMP (The Core Media Player) (freeware) seems fine
MTUX RingToneX - Ringtone Coloring 2.1 not sure about this
DVD to Pocket PC for me was problematic after version 2
1-Pass - Revolutionary Security App not sure
eXPerience (Windows XP Style Interface) had this running ok but slow on XDA2 but not tested on XDA2i
File Transfer Anywhere(PPC Anywhere) 3.01. Tried trial period but didn't like it.
iLOCK e-wallet password manager 1.0.1 had this running ok but slow on XDA2 but not tested on XDA2i
POCKET TV ENTERPRISE worked fine up to version 1.2 on my XDA2i
Pocket Mechanic. Not sure. I bought it to defrag XDA2i and storage. Found that after a few times the system slows down and needs to be restored.
TV Remote commander. Not sure about the usefulness because Very limited range.

Thanks Clustered.
I've downloaded the trial. What settings worked best for you?

Thanks the display is quicker...
Thanks for the tip...
The display is quicker.
It seems overkill to go for Tweaks2K2 but just for one display fix, and the Date/time on the bar (I love it!) so is there anything else you might recommend?
Thanks
just try yourself....maybe you will like others.....
Ok.
Appreciate your help.
I removed O2 Active and the XDA2i is about 10 times quicker and more reliable now.
This is how I removed O2 active:
1) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>startup.
2) Move the file called connections to another folder.
3) Navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
4) Rename the "xpdr_02" file to "xpdr_021".
5) Soft reset your phone.
6) Go to: Settings>system>remove programs.
7) Uninstall O2 active. You may get a message saying that certain dll files are in use in windows directory- simply use file explorer to rename these files and try again. Rename them back afterwards.
8) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
9) Rename the "xpdr_021" file back to "xpdr_02".
10) Navigate to: my device>windows>mobile solutions.
11) Cut and paste this folder to your built in storage
12) Soft reset the phone.
Thanks Hedley!
Hedley,
:?:
I just thought of a question re your unistall procedure.
After unistall, can you change 'profile' in order not to cause problems on aircraft?
In Active, I quite liked the simplicity of the email setup. I suppose once it's installed it is not neccessary, but did you find / is there anything else likely to be needed after removing?
Thanks
It is definately Faster!!
I am impressed with this one, my XDAIIi is definately a lot faster!
Cheers for that!

i.e. can you turn off the 'airplane' parts? because obviously just shutting down the XDA leves it actively listening.#
Thanks
"Flight" mode
You can enable flight mode (turn off mobile receiver) by tapping the reception icon on the top bar. In the bubble that appears, there is a link to "Turn on flight mode" / "Turn off flight mode"
The piece of software I really miss in the O2 active is the "profile" stuff, which unless I'm blind isn't in the 2003 OS. For example: normal, work, silent, noisy etc
I wouldn't manually uninstall the Active rubbish - do a corporate install instead. If you have to manually delete locked files etc etc you're asking for trouble later.
Thanks MMM
Thanks for the information and tips.
What is a corporate install - I am not familar with the term.

7) Uninstall O2 active. You may get a message saying that certain dll files are in use in windows directory- simply use file explorer to rename these files and try again. Rename them back afterwards.

Goto Start->Settings->Today->Items and uncheck the ones O2 puts on there (can't think off hand which ones they are!) this stops the dll in use messages.

The only problem with the corporate install I found, was it didn't setup the O2 GPRS and MMS settings before finishing device setup, I had a pain setting them up manually, and when I finally managed it, they didn't work 100% (or maybe it was i didn't trust my work 100%!)
You can invoke a corporate install by selecting it when it asks if you are a personal or corporate user. it'll ask you for a password, which is 0506 if memory serves me correct.

Well, I forgot to mention that if you want even MORE FREE space for programs or storage, do some reg editing and it could help alot.
For example, you could turn of the dialer if you don't really want it, that'll free your programs. There are many other things you could to make your PDA bigger! Just a little note if you wanted to try it out.
------
There is one more thing I would like to add. Feel free to give out your thoughts and opinions like what you might like on the rom or what you would like removed. If there's a majority for something to be added/delete, I will do it or at least try to. The only thing that I ask in return is NO SPAMMING and NO COMPLAINING!
Have fun!
If your Activesync-Mobile Internet Connection is not working, this is NOT the cause from my phone.
The problem is located in your Desktop/Laptop PC with the .reg files.
Here's the SOLUTION!
Another one just incase lol =]
just tried out this rom and for some reason I can't use WLM through the web browser, I keep getting an error.
well, if you read the Removed features, I have removed windows live. sorry about that.
anyways, could you tell me what the error specifically said so that i may get a clue to help you further?
i'm sure it will work once again without error if you decide to install the cab file for wlm.
try it out
Nice, Fast, Clean
Hello, Tried your rom. Super Fast. Great Job !!!!
I had to flash back to the almost Perfect Open Touch 3.0 lite because of Internet Sharing.
Yours has it. but without the Network Wizard to set to T-Mobile USA I can't access the net. My Wing is my only ISP. I have the same problem with Touch-It roms.
super fast, great rom though.

Thank you very much! Appreciate the comment!
You know it's a good thing that you've mentioned the "Network Wizard" because I was debating about putting it in. If more people ask for the "Network Wizard" then I'll see that I do it ASAP.
Once again, thanks!

hey zcink, what exactly does network wizard do? i have never used it and i have not seen any ill effects. i set up my proxy manually which takes about 1 minute as soon as i am done flashing a new rom. that always gets me online and allows my internet sharing to work also. do you do the proxy hack 5.99 or data plan 19.99? cause as far as i know they are the same speed. i just wonder will duprades internet sharing cab work on this rom?

network wizard sets up T-Mobile Data. I guess yes you can do manually but I don't know the settings.
I've tried duprades internet sharing cab but cannot get it to work.
The Network Wizard sets up the network settings for your device, whether it's tmobile, att, or if you're in Russian or China, etc.

hey, i guess if you want to do it manually, see if this works.
go to settings>connections>connections
click "add a new modem connection"
name it "T-Mobile Data"
select "celluar line (gprs)
access point name: wap.voicestream.com
leave user name and everything else blank (unless you have a data plan then you can put it in) and click "finish"
see if that will enable you to use t-mobile data, if not, then i guess i should add "networking wizard" later.
good luck.
**edit**
no luck needed. i just tried it and it works for me. give it a shot! =]

yeah i tried it with ivanmmj's clean rom also with no luck, but just found this one that he said is fixed. if you flash to anything new and try it let me know if it works plz. oh and the settings are SETTINGS/CONNECTIONS/CONNECTIONS/SET UP MY PROXY/216.155.165.50:8080....5.99mo.
for some reason, the ok button would just not exit the programs.
network wizard
very nice and fast-
would rule if you added network wizard =)
my flashing would stop here
huh?
oh and whats with the 2nd splash screen? i dont get it... lol
@ hybridmonk:
Haha, the second splash screen was made for pure fun. I wanted to see if it actually worked if I changed it. Luckily, it did, but then I got a little lazy and just left it. You're the third person who insisted that I should put network wizard. I think I might do it, but while I do that, I might try to make a NEW rom with it. Be on the look out for it. I might do it soon.
@bowlopho:
Well, for me, everything worked perfectly. What do you mean the "ok" button won't exit programs? Do you mean that when you close a program, but then you check the list, it's still there? That's typical, just go through the settings in task manager.
I thank both of you for giving your thoughts and opinions!
Help Please

I do NOT want my pictures from my ATT Tilt phone to automatically sync when using Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. I have a new HP Pavilion m9600t desktop computer, running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, and want to use the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 photo software that came with my HP camera. BUT, whenever I sync my ATT Tilt phone, the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 automatically tries to sync my photos (that are on the ATT Tilt phone) to my desktop PC and also opens the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 software and the computer locks up! How do I stop Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from automatically syncing my pictures from my ATT Tilt to my desktop PC? Please note that I still need to sync my ATT Tilt phone for Outlook Contacts, Tasks, Calendar, and Notes. I just don't want to sync my pictures that are on my ATT Tilt phone, otherwise the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 will automatically also open the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 software and try to sync the pictures from the ATT Tilt phone and then lock up. I've already unchecked the option to sync files in Windows Mobile Device Center, but it still tries to sync them anyway and opens the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 software, which then locks up. This has got me stumped. I've also tried changing the AutoPlay options for pictures to "ask me everytime" or "do nothing", but it still happens anyway. Any ideas would sure be appreciated. Please HELP me to stop any automatic sync of pictures from my ATT Tilt phone to my desktop PC when using Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
Thanks in advance.
Frank
There should be a setting somewhere to pick what all is sync'd. uncheck pictures or files.. Something like that.
Please let me know where that setting is?
Can't find any setting on the ATT Tilt or on my HP desktop PC that will prevent automatic syncing of pictures from my ATT Tilt to my HP desktop PC, but if you know PLEASE let me know where that setting is?
HELP! This has got me completely baffled!
Thanks so much.
1st: You should be using WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER
After connecting, select: Pictures,Music&Video
Then, select: Pictures/Video Import Settings.
From there you can set up what you want.
What is the exact setting I should look for?
What is the exact setting I should change to prevent my Tilt from automatically trying to sync pictures? Because when I go into that folder I don't see any adjustment setting to prevent pictures from syncing. PLEASE tell me where this setting might be?
Note: I am using Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista 64bit, I go into the Pictures, Music&Video, and there is NO setting to stop the pictures from syncing. Maybe I missing something?
Thanks so much!
Changing your content synchronization settings
Before you can synchronize information with your device, you must select the corresponding content type for synchronization. If you have already selected the content you want to synchronize when setting up your Windows Mobile partnership, you can change your selections in Windows Mobile Device Center.
To change the content to synchronize
Connect your device to the computer. Windows Mobile Device Center starts automatically.
Click Mobile Device Settings.
Click Change content sync settings.
Select the check box for the information type that you want to synchronize.
If available, click Sync Settings for each content type whose settings you want to change, then select the options you want.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each content type.
]Something like that. If you can't figure it out then just ask Help, normally just hit F1 in the mobile sync center. Or use google.

Then you are lucky! My work laptop whit all my tools have vista and I cant synch whit my device other than through BT I solved this once before but I do not remember what I did haha. Going to downgrade to XP when I get the time and possibility, just so much to move and install
Thanks guys for all the input. But, I can't find any way to alter the way HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 automatically downloads pictures, and unfortunately, I can't find any setting in any of the Mobile Device Center options that allows for preventing the automatic sync of pictures from my Tilt. BTW, under AutoPlay options, there are no devices listed, only the generic folder options for pictures, video, etc..
There has got to be a way of stopping the automatic syncing of any pictures from my Tilt to my HP desktop PC, I just don't know where it is, and neither did any of the HP techs. PLEASE HELP! This is driving me nuts!
Thanks for all your help.

Try alter the way it handle the file extension. Make ie. Windows Foto Gallery your default viewer.
1.) Right click on the image
2.) pick "open with"
3.) pick "choose program"
4.) choose whichever program you want to open the file with
5.) Check the box that says to always use the selected program to open this file
6.) DONE.
Tried that. No go. I've been all over Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 forums and it seems WMDC6.1 has numerous problems that Microsoft says they are aware of. That is, there doesn't seem to be any way of adjusting WMDC for STOPPING picture transfer from my Tilt. If there were a setting in the AutoPlay defaults for the ATT Tilt, or a setting for HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 that would also solve the problem. Maybe a registry fix (which I don't know how to do)?
Thanks, but I'm going crazy with this (and my wife too!) HELP!
Solution Found! Please Post for Others in Need.
Guys, I believe I found the solution. When using an HP Pavilion Elite (m9600t) desktop PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, and an HP Printer and/or HP Camera that both utilize HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 software: TO PREVENT the ATT Tilt from automatically trying to sync any pictures (from the Tilt to PC) and automatically bringing up the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 software during the sync (which in my case would lock up my Tilt and PC) I used this following procedure:
1) Go to Start and enter: msconfig
2) In the System Configuration go to the Startup tab
3) UNCHECK: PictureMover Application (Manufacturer: HP)
It seems the PictureMover Application causes the HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 to be called up during any sync of my ATT Tilt, therefore, by unchecking it in Startup, I can now sync my ATT Tilt without the HP Photosmart software automatically trying to transfer pictures and then locking up my Tilt and PC. (NOTE: I could not find any adjustments in Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, in AutoPlay settings, or in Default settings.)
Please pass this on.
Thanks guys for all your help. Everyone at XDA has always been GREAT!
