Hi there.
After doing the WM5 upgrade on my BA I don't have any backlight when charging or syncing - with external power. Is this normal?
Did you properly apply all of the patches.
i have the same problem
which patch?
Yeah I think so. Its the only issue I have after the patches installation - boy was the unit slow with WM5 and no patches installed. But after that, it worked like a charm except for this small issue.
No backlight.
Please excuse me if i'm teaching u to suck eggs ....... but....
You have tried holding the power button down for 2-3 secs whilst connectedto external power haven't you.....
backlight off on external power
Of course I tried holding the power button, but the same problem here. After upgrading my Himalaya to WM5 (Mobiz_171_64WWE (VIVI)) and installing the included fix, backlight turns off when connected to pc on USB or when on external power. When unconnected it comes back on. Is there an other fix.

I've installed Softick Card Export II v2.12 in order to get a useable mass storage device.
There was a message that I should not run Card Export before I soft reset device, which I did.
BUT, big but, there was O2 logo, then WindowsMobile logo and then light turned off..five minutes later the Windows logo was still on the screen and my Wizard cannot boot up system completely. Holding Power button doesn't do anything,so I had to press that small Harr reset button. I tried one more time, leavin the phone on for 15 minutes, but the story was the same..Windows Mobile..and nothing else. Even keyboard and green/red button stopped being lit.
I can hear on my speakers that the phone is working (electric iterference).
I thought I could just put new ROM over it, but then saw that I need a working ActiveSync connection in order to do that.
Please, does anyone have an advice on what to do?[/url]
Any 3..4..5 button-combinations that could reset the device and format internal memory?
Hold VoiceDial + CommManager button and press the soft-reset button, then press the Send button (Green button) to hard-reset your device.
Why did you install v2.12 because v2.17 is already released?
It's better to install WM5torage 1.60, it does the same and is freeware and works A LOT better!
Thanks a million!
I bought my friend's Blue Angel with WM5 upgraded, and found that Power button is ok. I can turn on, soft reset or press to shut the light off, but cannot shut down Windows. I have to use software Spb Plus shut down button instead.
I thought if i down the rom to Win 2003SE, it should be fixed. But it's not. The Power button still has the same problem. I cannot shut down.
Please help, how can i fix this.
Thx.
What happens if you just press Power for short moment as you do with all other buttons and you wait a second?
When I pressed Power button for a moment, the light is off. But when I press and release, nothing happen.
Long press = turn off backlight, this is normal.
But after short press it should go asleep - maybe button is worn out slightly and youi just need to press is stronger?
and of course try hard reset before - if you can do it (it involves pressing reset!) means button is ok, and there is something else. Anyway if after HR still button doesn't work correctly, I have no idea what it can be.

Sorry my English is not good
I have the exact same problem, no I dea what has caused it?
The XDA will not power down any more.
I will try reflashing to see if this will rectify it.
I must admit altough many people have put an enormous amount of work into adapting WM5 rom to suit the Blue Angel .I have all but given up with the WM5 roms short comings (WiFi , Bluetooth ,Instability ect)
So its goodbye XDA2S and hello Nokia N95
Anyone can help? Please.
I have exact the same problem. I CAN NOT shut the device down by pressing (short) the power button. I have to use Spb-plus which has a "Shut down" icon shown on the Today screen to do the trick.
Is there any fix to use the power button on the device to do what it is meant to do?
Thank alot!
Maby this can help
Hi.
I had the exact same problem and have searched an read. no solution until last night.
My phone hung after some fiddeling with tomtom, and i popped the battery. i switched it on, and for some reason i decided to turn off the backlight during boot. So power on- wait 1-2 sec - hold power button until backlight goes off. the screen flashed a couple of times and then after boot had finnished it worked again. HORRAY.
Before this i have tried soft/hard reset ++ but nothing worked. so im really happy...
Give it a try, and let me know.. i know a lot of people have this problem.
wow mate...i dunnno how...but it seems it worked for me...thanks...
Hi all,
I frequently charge my X1i through USB. There are 2 problems with this method, however.
1) The device goes into USB drive mode, disabling my SD card apps (I keep them on SD card AT ALL TIMES due to frequent backups/restores)
2) Screen does not turn off! while connected to computer! The screen only dims, but does not turn off.
WITHOUT resorting to a) plugging into wall outlet b) connecting to Activesync, is there any to fix these behaviors?
Thanks!
just let it go into activesync mode, that way you can still access your files on your phone and micro sd card from both your pc and phone. And if you dont like the screen not turning off, they just change the settings or just press the power button, to shut off the display.
I know about the power setting, but when your computer is connected to the computer via USB, it refuses to turn off the screen (only dims it)
what? one simple button press and the screen is off. the device is still visible to the pc. I do it all the time - r3a generic uk rom.
in power options u can set after what time it disables screen... default is never

Weird. When I'm connected to Pc, it dims the screen, it does not shut it off. Also, it does NOT auto-shut of screen after the 2 minutes specific in the Power options
You can also use "safely remove devices" to disconnect the data connection from the phone, it'll still charge.
There's nothing we can do AUTO. But like said before, a simple pression on the power button will do it, or you can use My Mobiler and press F11 on your PC.

Yep, I've had 5 different WinMo devices since '05 and they all worked as expected except the X1. I like to use it as an MP3 player at night, Pocket Player has a sleep timer built in so I just like to leave it running as I drift off most nights. But if I do anything, change the volume, rewind, anything at all the screen comes back on and stays on until I hit some other button to turn it back off. All my other devices obeyed the settings you set in the Power tab, but not the X1...
I'd very much like the screen to auto-off if I tell it to while on USB power. It's not only wasting power, but it wakes me up and gets me fumbling for the tiny power button at 2 in the morning. Any fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter
I bumped up thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561832 Since it has a better title and shows the exact same unresolved issue...
Reg Fix
Adding this potential fix here as well so anyone subscribed to this thread sees it.
Ok, I think I have a fix for this. I googled around some more and found that this might be an HTC problem more than an SE one. There were various registry keys people suggested to try to fix the 'backlight problem' - which may or may not be related. None of those suggestions seemed to work, but I kept changing keys myself and eventually found this seemed to do the trick.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts\ACUserIdle: 120
I confirmed that changing this value affects the amount of time before my X1's screen turns off - but my MP3s still play with the screen off and my phone wakes on receipt of a new call. This value is the # of seconds before the screen turns itself off (in this case 2 minutes). You do need to soft reset for the change to take effect.
This doesn't seem to be posted anywhere else that I've found doing this to fix this issue issue - I changed a few other registry keys as well that might be enabling this fix. So anyone with this problem, please do give this a try and if it doesn't work I'll post the other keys I changed as well - and if it does then post to say so and we're good
Peter
Update: I tested it also while hooked up to the computer and it does work with the phone accessible through active sync with the screen off and the battery charging (faster now that it isn't competing with the screen for power, except for the 2 minutes before it times out). If I want to use it I just click a button and the screen stays on till I leave it alone for 2 mins and it remains off. Get a call or a message and the screen goes on for 2 minutes and then off - Exact same behaviour on AC and USB - exactly the behaviour I wanted .
Hello,
My HTC Touch Diamond (in use since 2008) is strangely suffering power down problem. Once using, it suddenly powered off. Now whenever I try to turn it on either of the following happens:
1) Some times, nothing happens even if I press power button, press soft reset button by stylus or even connect it with PC.
2) If I take out battery and again insert the battery and power on, it starts some times. Windows boots & logo appears. Then after a while during boot, it stops & power is shut down.
I have replaced the fully charged battery, and also tried providing external power supply. I have also formatted the internal memory. The problem is still there.
Before giving it to technician, I want to discuss if someone has solution here?
Regards,
Waseem
Hi.
I've own P970 Swift/Optimus Black since 4 and a half year, now with Android 4.0.4.
Lately strange things happen with it.
1. Softkeys refuse to work. They don't react to touch at all. They are lit up correctly by pressing other physical buttons but no function at all.
2. Power button refuses to work. I don't think it is physically broken because it works when smartphone is connected to the charger. It hardly works when phone is unplugged.
3. Screen brightness and other screen settings aren't saved after phone restart. Brightness goes up to maximum on phone startup even when setting up automatical brightness couple of times.
4. Phone refuses to be recognized as mass storage. Last few times I've tried to save some apks on SD card I couldn't do it directly via USB cord.
Phone was hard reset. I've flashed 2.3.4 V20S ROM via Smartflash - no change to the issues. Then I've made full wipe from CWM - no change at all.
Then I've flashed 4.0.4 V30B via Smartflash - no change as well.
I've Kingorooted Swift Black and installed Floating Soft Keys as a workaround for not working softkeys, but it is just workaround, no full function.
Any tips, clues?
EDIT: I've just installed eMMC Brickbug and run memory test with "Congratulations. Test Passed." If you believe that app the memory isn't corrupted, so why I'm still having 4 hard issues?

At 4.5 years, my thoughts are that you've gotten incredible life out of your P970! With hard and soft buttons failing, it's probably time to call it "done" and move to a newer phone. From what other users have reported, once hardware issues start cropping up, more are soon to follow. Anything prior to Android 4.4 (KitKat) is a security nightmare, and any hardware repair will cost more than a replacement phone.
I wish I had a better answer, but I don't.
Hi.
Thanks for the reply. I've just moved to new LG phone last christmas - G3, seems I've done it just in time
I'd like P970 to work just for general purposes of smartphone newbie: calls, sms and simple web browsing. Those are pretty hard with softkeys not working and screen wake up failing.
As I said about power button - it doesn't seem to be physically broken - it usually works - mainly when phone is charged - so that tells me that it's software problem.
Workaround for physically damaged button on rooted P970 wouldn't be hard. I've found instructions about remapping some functions to G button which was rarely used on my Swift Black.
The main problem is softkeys panel not reacting for any touch and I would be thankful of any good clue if it is possible and how to fix it myself without additional cost.
The softkey not responding is a bug introduced in 4.0.4 (I readed this in this forum). It seems there is no fix.
As a workaround I use Ultimate Dynamic Navbar, I prefer it over Floating SoftKey.
If you switch back to an older version of Android (2.3.4) , it should work normally.
As a workaround for the power button, you can change the G button to wake on your mobile from standby.
And try to never have to shutdown your phone (I think you can Power on the mobile by charging it, and disconnect the charger on the first logo (sometimes it work sometimes not, there must be a precise timing)
Also if you use your phone without LockScreen, you can wake it up with any button on the phone (G Key, Vol+, Vol- )
