How do you unlock the ROM so that you can either delete, rename, or replace system files in the Windows directory???
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is using the patched v3 WM5 ROM BTW!
Also, when I do a ROM-to-SD dump using the d2s command, how do I get it so that the changed files in the ROM Windows directory are also copy as if they were part of the original ROM?
Unlock
You can easily do it with Resco Explore
Really? Lol, I feel stupid!
Thanks!
Now how can I get files that have been changed to remain during an SD ROM dump?
It isn't possible to delete Files with Resco Explorer in Windows Directory.
It writes: File is in ROM Memory, you can't delete this file.
Is there a workaround?
yes there is, dump the rom, modify the files repack and reflash

Rom I currently heve on my Wizard is K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship. I want to change it to Qtek_9100_1_6_7_ENG with aWizard. I want also to change extended rom to Qtek_9100_1_6_7_ENG_Extended_ROM2, but if I'm trying to copy it to /Extended_ROM/ it warns me that it's impossible to overwrite files. I've deleted all files in /Extended_ROM/ with Total Commander, but those files are seemed to still be there since there is a question if I want to overwrite. I was trying to use Unlock Ext Rom Wizard from this forum, but when I install it to my Wizard there is being created /Extended_ROM2/, but I still can't copy new ext rom either to this folder or /Extended_Rom/. There were created in those folders strange subfolders which I can't remove. If anyone can help me I wolud be grateful.
Hello,
I was trying to upgrade extended rom, after updateing new os.
And...
I copy proper files to some folder by Active Sync, and then go by Total Commander do \extended_rom, delete all files from it and copy from other folder. Then I see monit, that files are there and if I want to override them...
I say yes.
And after hard reset nothing happen - no files are installed. And in \extended_rom I see no files, but when I try to copy them - the same situation.
Please, tell me what to do ?
I see a bunch of stuff in the windows folder that can go, but neither the built in file explorer nor TotalCommander will let me delete any of the files. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Null
make your own kitchen and remove files when building your ROM
Isn't there any easier way to remove crap from our windows folder??
most files in the windows dir is located in the rom which cant be altered apart from at full rom flash time
some can be overwritten if one use less poor filemanagers then explore like total commander
How I can change some images from the windows folder, they are read only and I can't change this, I can download the images to my pc and change them but I can't put them back, is there a other way then just decopile the entire rom?
Willem
it`s not possible, only you DUMP your Rom
greetz
Just use a program like Total Commander or Resco Explorer to copy the files into your Windows folder. The ROM files aren't actually overwritten, they are merely shadowed.

Hi,
I wanted to customize my htc touch pro a little bit by changing the battery icon, but that requires me to replace a ddl file, but heres the problem, i cant replace it
I cant replace it using the total commander on the phone, and not using my windows when connected to my computer.
Does anyone know how i can remove the limitations so i can replace ddl files in the windows directory?
Using Windows Mobile 6.1
In total commander, copy the file to the \Temp folder. Then CUT the file from temp, and paste it into \Windows. That should work.
If that still doesn't work, you can try this:
Rename the original dll in \Windows (I like to add a new suffix like .old with Total Commander).
Copy the file into temp.
Cut/paste from temp to windows.
Reboot phone.
If THAT doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.
Are you on a custom or stock ROM?
If it's a stock ROM, you will need to install Security Certificates in order for the .DLL to work.
Additionally, it is possible that Security Policies are in place that prevent execution of of .DLL that are unsigned.
HTH,
