Hi,
Was wondering if you can get any cards/software that allows you to pick up FM radio on XDAIIi?
Probably can't as I dont think there is any kind of reciever built in. But miss having a radio on my phone now I have got rid of my nokia.
AFAIK u cant do it.
maybe u can buy an sdio card that has an aerial etc.. who knows
I am using 2Gb card and 800Mb of music is good compensation of lack of radio. But... It is a good idea to get Nokia HS-12W bt stereo handsfree. It has bult in radio.

Hi all:
recently at work one of my collegues was showing me a program in his phone (sprint's muzak..not sure about spelling, by samsung) called "Trasmitter". This program allows him to "transmit" music/mp3 files from his cell phone to a FM radio station of his choice in his car thus enabling him to listen the music through car speakers.
A week agao i had read here about a way to transmit music to car speakers using motorala equipment using bluetooth however that piece of equipment is 99 $ and this program is probably alot cheaper.
Does anyone know if a program like this exists or can be created for Kaiser/tilt/tytnII?
...p.s. conversation started by us comparing phones, which i couldn't believe he was trying to compare his 50$ phone to my 600 tilt, but he got me when he showed me that program .. something my tilt can't do :-(
any suggestions/answers/comments appreciated.
u're probably referring to the muziq, by LG. its not all just software based, it has a built fm transmitter. if you want that function for your device, then you need to buy an fm transmitter.
Yeah that is not a software issue...the kaiser does not have a built in fm transmitter, so you will need to buy a 3rd party piece of hardware in order to accomplish this. Try googling or looking on eBay...alternatively several manufactures are making bluetooth compatible in dash stereos that will work with the built-in bluetooth compatibilities of the kaiser.
thanks
thanks guys 4 replying so promptly. i'll search around to see if there is any cheaper bluetooth equipment than motorola. i'll let u guys know if i find anything.
The cheapest way is as ajmoncrief said: get an RF modulator, they're like $15 at Radio Shack, and a $5 USB to headphone adapter to connect the RF modulator to the phone. Works like a champ. You could also go ghetto-style and, instead of the RF modulator, use one of those cassette-looking things with the wire that us old folk used to hook our diskman up to the stereo, that'll work just as well and is a bit cheaper.
Is it possible to use the existing hardware within the TyTNII for receiving FM radio signals? Surely it'd be a case of utilising the same hardware used for WiFi (802.11x = 2.4GHz), but at a lower frequency (FM 88.0MHz-108.0MHz)..
I was disappointed that FM radio was not an included feature of the TyTNII, however I'm happy with just about everything else about it. The only comparable phone that I was considering is the Eten X500+ glofiish which does have FM radio.
If there is already an FM radio application, please hook me up.
Regards,
Scott.
NOPE kaiser does not have fm transmitter ...
if it was simply the case of utilizing the same hardware.......then surely, every single ppc with wifi could be modded to receive fm radio signal. holy cow, you know what i realized, my laptop has wifi too! i'm sooo gonna mod it to receive fm radio
just because they use the same term "radio frequency" doesn't always mean that they're interchangeable. so let's review this... since TyTn II has WiFi radio chip is there any software to turn it into:
satellite dish receiver?
citizen band transceiver?
(hd)tv tuner?
microwave oven?
fm radio? ... maybe not
bluetooth - there's a dedicated component/module for this
GPS - there's a dedicated component/module for this
but who knows if there was a disabled chip that can potentially be activated (as long as the hardware is there and accessible), there might be possibilities
one word: SEARCH!
there is a LONG thread on this in one of the kaiser sections which has long been buried which has determined that the kaiser does not have the proper hardware to receive FM radio signals. the touch cruise can receive them IIRC but the kaiser cannot due to the lack of a needed chip.

Threads like this should be closed the second they are posted. Sorry if i sound like a know it all, but i am a amateur radio operator, hence I have alo't of experience in the radio field. Using a modulated 2.4ghz transciever in impossible to re-modulate it to the am/fm bands. it just wont work.
second. you have to have a on board antenna and a tuner that is resonant on those freq's and the kaiser/tilt does not.
Third. Dutty has been tinkering on a idea of getting it to work, and following what he is thinking it might work, however the reception most likely will be limited.
Fourth. If a radio is such a big deal then buy a am/fm portable radio, or buy a sony w580i,
Fifth. SEARCH, there are plenty of threads regarding this.

Sixth. Using wifi or data go to www.thestreamcenter.com/pda and listen to all the FM radio your heart desires
Wow! Thanks for that link.
...or get one of the many internet radio programs available (such as Resco Pocket Radio).
Hi Folks,
thanks for a great discussions on this forum, it helped me a lot in some issues!
I have had a good idea of having a "universal" device since my first pda. And I thought I would get one with Diamond, but unfortunately... The issue is that am trying to use Diamond as a GPS device and a memory unit at the same in my car... I have an MP3 car radio with USB (incl. power supply), so what I am trying to get is:
-> Running GPS inside Diamond (e.g. Navigon)
-> Running car radio (supplying Diamond with power)
-> Car radio reads Diamond's internal flash memory over USB
Until now I only managed that Diamond's GPS running and getting power over USB (-> selected ActiveSync after plugging in the USB cable into car radio) OR Diamond's internal memory serving MP3s for my car audio and charging itself over USB.
So my question: Is it theoretically possbile to get what I want?
I know, setting Diamond as internal memory demounts the flash for external USB device and makes it unavailable for internal applications... And ActiveSync will never work with the car audio... And there is not enough space to place GPS maps into ROM... But probably you have some ideas or tweaks of apps, which could help me???
So what I tried was:
1. Creating two memory patritions my SD-card with my old XDA mini S and demounting them with WM5torage. It didn't work with mini S as WM5torage recognised only one created partition. It also didn't work with Diamond as I could not create two partitions on it (for several reasons).
2. I tried to find an extra soft app, which would "extend" ROM emulating it by using the space of the internal memory. Didn't work.
3. Use different USB modes...
So do you have an idea?
Thanks and regards,
schroschy

I've got the same kind of car radio... but I don't see any chance to get what you (and I) want. so get yourself a usb-memory-stick (with even more than 4 gb) or a second diamond
Anrgy...
Argh... I'm so f**king angry!
'Cause HTC Diamond Pro, which comes out in a couple of weeks, got 512 MB ROM and an external miniSD card slot - just enough to place a map of Germany or enough mp3's / ogg's on each sigle partition!
Bastards...
EDIT: But there MUST be a workaround! I can't believe it doesn't work! I heard Micro$oft is working on an alternative product to ActiveSync... Maybe it'll help us...
Any further suggestions?
a new radio...
i thought about a new radio with bluetooth. so you can play music with the diamond and use tomtom at the same time and hear both (music and commands) through the speakers in your car...
it's cheaper than buying a pro
there was an app for older pdas that would allow you to present the storage as a disk , i think you could also still access it from the pda
@cookie: you guess you mean WM5torage... i tried this one, it didn't work with xda mini s (qtek 9100). and it does not work with wm6.1 anyway...
@Herr_Knigge: i though about it... what you mean is basically using diamond's internal media player and transmitting audio via bluetooth, don't you? i will try it out next time at the media store and will share my experiences...
thus, if anyone has a good workaround / tweak / app to solve the problem - you are welcome
I'm curious about why you're so determined to get this to work... is it so that you don't have to buy a car charger kit?
Seriously, you can get a 4GB flash drive for peanuts
@Davey101:
well sure you can get an SD for peanuts, but hangig around with your sd-card plus cardreader plus all this chargers etc. is what i hate... why can't i have everything in one device???
@Herr_Kringe:
i had a small BT-test in the media store on firday. it worked fine (with some minor interruptions when loading) with sony mex bt 5000. however, i am not sure about the sound quality. sony supported special audio-streaming-mode and i started diamond's bluetooth-headset-mode... so i guess it was all mono sound. thus you can tweak it to joint stereo in diamond's regestry...
another thing i'm worried about using BT is the volume level. since the audio player is running in diamond and not in the car audio device, loudness maximization inside diamond could cause some distortions. and i am not sure if there is any sound wave normalization / limiting inside the bluetooth interface. i will do some more tests this week.
PS! another cool thing was that navigation speech was also heard in car radio over bluetooth there was kind of a loundess controller between player and navigation, so the player turned down the level to hear the navigation speech
Hello to everyone im kinda nobby in this topic but i read about sending your music through fm to ur car radio just by seetting up the same freqency on both fone and radio.. i read it in specifications of so Sh**ty nokiaD)...but anyway would that be possible in our great diamonds ?? BEst regards
yes but it require extre hardware
I have one of these
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=166893
been using it since my xda2 and it support anything
which feed it no software required
but of cause you'll need a extusb->3.5mm jack converter
Because the HTC HD2 doesn't have fm transmitter function so i want to buy FM transmitter accessory. Does anyone have any recommendation for me ? ( sorry for my english)

There is no reason that any FM transmitter with a 3.5" jack connection (the vast majority of them) would not work on an HD2. Just don't get one of those that connect only via the IPOD dock connector.
So, it's not really an HD2-specific question. Better to post in a forum about accessories for all phones.
I haven't had great results myself, with any FM transmitter. It is hard to find a good frequency to transmit on. Then, if you find one, that works well in one place--as you drive around in the car, you might easily find that frequency doesn't work well any more--noise interference, etc. As you are driving, it could not be safe to fiddle around a lot with changing frequencies as you drive.
I haven't been happy with any I have tried.
Other opinions?
what is an FM transmitter for, is it to do stuff like broadcast GPS directions on your car speakers, or is it for getting traffic information on the GPS software?

It is to broadcast any sound from any device with a 3.5 sound jack, through the car radio.
Most often they are used for playing music from your MP3 player (in this case the phone), through your car radio.
It would also work for any other sound though--phone calls, etc. (Only works in one direction, however, so if the phone is far from your mouth, may not be too great to use on phone calls, if you want the other party to hear you.)

I think its hard to recommend...I have a Belkin iTrip that I picked up at Wal-Mart when me and we took our kids to Disneyland this past June. It works flawlessly in my wifes Jetta (which is what we drove to California in) and the sound was actually much better than I could have ever expected.
...however, in my Grand Vitara...its almost completely unusable, when I can get a station to pick it up...its far below FM quality and I have to have the phone in a certain location and in a specific position just to acheive this.
I have been looking into either getting a bluetooth receiver to attach to the stock head unit...or replacing the head unit all together (I would prefer to keep the stock one though)
I think it has something to do with the power of the antenna on your stereo, which is going to vary with every vehicle.
I did find a little gadget that you simply plug into the antenna input on the back of the stereo and plug the antenna into this gadget...when you turn the gadget on...it basically makes every radio station pure static by shutting off the antenna (It was only like $10.00...and I think it would work if you wanted to go the transmitter way)
Use a speakerphone with FM transmitter
I use a motorola T505 and you can get them for around $50 or so.
