Mysterious "next appointment" date/time balloon, s - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

I was just fiddling about with my xda, I was inputting a name into the contacts, I had shift enabled on the onscreen keyboard and I was typing letters in with my thumb... I must've mashed something odd, because all of a sudden a weird balloon popped up, never seen it before on my XDA, showing "next appointment date/time" and what looked like a small battery icon with a line that resembled lightning going through the middle on the left hand side of the balloon... It didn't have the Luna theme (with the blue top title bar), it was pretty monochromatic, and it had a clock in it on the right hand side. It appeared on the top right of the screen.
... Stupidly, I tapped out of it, without taking a screenshot, and I've been unable to replicate the situation (I can't get it back, and it's really winding me up because I'd like to know how I did it in the first place!)
Any comments / suggestions / solutions appreciated =D

Isn't it just the bubble that usually shows when you tap the clock?

When I tap the clock it just shows the Clock & Alarms settings page (the one with the Time and Alarms tabs)...
... This was a small balloon bubble with a black border, white bg and black text, very confused still as to where the hell it came from! :/

The bubble you're talking about is the one I get on my JAM when I tap the clock on the navigation bar. Have you tried tapping that? Or did you tap the date bar on the today screen?

I don't have a clock on my nav bar...

I've never had a clock on the top bar, I've seen it in screenshots of devices running PPC2002 but mine never came with one. Very curious... Did I manage to hit a hidden pixel somewhere or something?

That sounds very wierd :? The clock should be there when you buy the device.
You can add clock, disable clock or add clock & date via registry hacks.
I can't explain how you activated the bubble though.

Well I got it through O2, so it already had some of their own custom 'enhancements' ¬¬ ... The clock and the date showing up together up top are a Today plugin called "clockinfo" which was supplied with it, if memory serves (as is the battery monitor, o2BatteryPlugin, that comes with the O2 Active UI). I managed to stop the O2 Active UI (o2aui in the Today settings) from autoloading at boot, but I still can't find a way to remove the O2 icon from the start bar without starting over with my device config and using a hacked custom cab to get rid of it (it comes as one of the programs that's preinstalled from the SIM or the ROM, whichever it is, before you can even use the phone when you first start it up or after the battery runs totally flat).
The signal strength and signal indicator bars are there forcibly, I've not found any way to move them. If I press/tap and hold down on the O2 icon on the start bar, I can get a dialog which I used to move it to the left some more (by default it's slap bang right in the middle of the start bar, which is totally unhelpful), The icon next to the O2 icon is the Switch app, which I use to kill Internet Explorer before it crashes my XDA if I have more than one window open (nice to know that PIE is as bug-free as IE6   ). The rest is just default, I've not added or removed any other icons from the start bar.
Very confused, but thanks for clarifying where it came from somewhat... Could you possibly take a screenshot of what it looks like on your JAM (with Pocket Screen Capture or whatever you use, if you don't already have a screencap app) and stick it on here just so I can make sure that we definitely are talking about the same thing? I want to make sure I'm not going crazy again (don't ask. Haha)
Cheers already for the responses, much appreciated.
Christopher
UPDATE - it WAS O2's customisations that removed the registry keys for the standard WM2003SE clock. I reset my device, did a Corporate install, and it came up first time. I also managed to enable it via a registry hack on the first installation (before I reset the device), so both ways work.

to remove the o2 logo from the top left of the screen, go settings> system >windows>fonts > delete the font

This is a three year old thread.
Closed it.

How to get HTC Home Screen for AT&T Tilt?

I want the HTC Home Screen (with the big clock and shortcuts) on my Tilt. Where can I find it? How do I install it? Will it mess with the AT&T ROM?
Thanks.

here you go sir. im only giving you this one because the 6 button version always seems to put my phone on vibrate when i dont want it. so heres the one that works. it will not mess your phone up. install to the phone. enjoy.
Thanks
Thank you very very much!
I've never done this, how do I install?
Move the .cab to your phone - use File Manager on your phone to browse to where you put the file - run the file by clicking on it
I installed the cab, but I dont see anything different...do I need to change any setting after installing? Will this give me the weather on the Today screen?
reset the device
reset then go to settings, today, items, and select the correct plug_in.
I did that, and have the HTC plugin checked...just wondering what im supposed to be seeing...anybody have a screenshot?
What about the weather...How do I get that?
Yeah here it is,
Ignore the watermark, couldnt find a handy/free screenshot
anyway for weather, if you want your own city its another story.
There is one good tutorial for that on the forums, just have to look
*edit whoops images didnt go through, let me crop them

Just select a different theme for the today screen.
I want to try this on my new AT&T Tilt. But can it be uninstalled? In case I change my mind? In the past, I downloaded one of the HTC Home Plug-in CABs from this site, and I had to hard-reset to get rid of it...
quick question, what plugin are you using to show the state of the connections (phone, wifi and bluetooth) ,I don't recognise it

WIRLESS TODAY PLUGIN
:] you guys should really try the cabs duttythroy put together
HTC Home with Contacts
I downloaded the HTC Home cab listed in this string and it appears to work just fine. I need to tweak it (i.e. - add more cities to the weather file as well as add the programs on the program screen), but what I really miss is the Conatcts screen ... the one where you have 9 pictures that are one touch dialing in that tab. Does a .cab exit for HTC Home with the four tabs instead of the three?
I ran the 6 button on and 8125 and HATED the fact that it arbitrarily changed my phone to vibrate mode. But I'd really enjoy the contacts tab.
Thanks!
Battery Bar ...
I also downloaded the .cab listed in this string for the battery bar in the header (for lack of better term). I placed it on the phone and ran it, then the phone rebooted ... nothing. I executed the .cab a second time, was told the previous version would be uninstalled, it installed and rebooted again ... nothing.
I picked the QVGA version of the bars, not solid. I may try solid next but I can't imagine that would correct any issues. Just wanted to post that it didn't work for me.

New home replacement HOME++ looks amazing

Neat scroll bar at the bottom with access to everything and more space on the screen. Check out the website.
Update: Download now available from the site.
http://hpp.intuitit.mobi/home
So I installed it........now what?
use it as your home replacement its in beta stage so things can only get better
umm i like it. im still not willing to use any home besides the default just because i like the speed, but this one is very nice. seems a little better in some ways than GDE thats for sure. but GDE isnt free... this is! best part cant wait to see how this develops
this is easily the most responsive and intuitive home replacement app i've used. sweeter home preview 1 was a previous favourite, but the lack of widget support has seen it lag behind and as GDE costs money, i've never used it, even though it looks good.
the bar at the bottom is extremely useful and well thought out, as is the integrated task manager. the fact it can display widgets is great and the option to hide the notification bar is another brilliant idea. i would love to see klaxon support alongside alarm clock support, but that's just me being ridiculous.
all in all, i am looking forward to seeing this home replacement app taking off in a big way.
Looks awesome but could someone post the apk its not warez cause its free I just want to pull the clock out of it I'm on blur which is 1.5 this is complied for 1.6 and 2.0 so it does not show up in my market or if your worried about a mod just PM me with a link please and thanks
I like it, it'll be interesting to see how it develops from here and how the animated widgets turn out.
EDIT: I don't know if the dev's ever visit here but I think it would be nice if the items on the power strip were configurable. As an example I never use the google search or favorites icon, so if they could be disabled that would be awesome. Also the ability that the advanced launcher has to hide apps from the app drawer is awesome, if that could be incorporated as well?
I'm still on 1.5 so this isn't available in my market, but I switched for fun to 1.6 last night and caught this application, I like it. Someone finally hid the notification bar which I think is a nice change.
And apparently you can have semi animated widgets with this HR which is pretty cool
It's really very nice. We only need real replacement for root users.
There shoud be possibility to customize bottom icons - I don't use voice search and I'd replace the icon with something else.
searched for it in the market and realised im on android 1.5. gonna have to switch to 1.6. its worth reflashing just for getting rtid of the notification bar
I like it. I don't know if it will be my replacement home screen, but I might try it for a while.
Well i will try and get the apk or link to it for everyone but the app is in beta so we can make suggestions and make it into the must have home app becuase all the others are just missing that something but this looks promising.
this home screen replacement is the fastest, most responsive and has the best functionality out of all home screens, its almost as fast as stock home screen.
I cant wait to see what they will add or improve over the next weeks since its still beta. Its so fast I cannot think of anything that they could do to improve speed.
I just love the little scroll bar on the bottom, I love the way you can close all apps with function button on bottom.
Hi, it looks promising, i like it.
Very promising !
First of all, let me thank you a lot for this innovative home replacement app.
Thanks !
I really like the features of the bottom bar. Scroll it to see even more elements is great and I was really surprised to see that I could click on the battery, the sound indicator, the network icon, etc. Long press on some icons to access to the related settings menu is another good idea.
To hide the notifiation bar makes my home to seem bigger, really nice
Workspace in a loop is comfortable too.
I noticed two bugs (edit) :
- Sometimes (like 50% of the time), when the phone goes of its "standby" mode (menu to unlock...), the hidden notification bar left a black and empty area on top of the screen. All the home content is displaced down (of the height of the notification bar). If you press the physical home button, everything goes in the right place again. I couldn't find a regular cause to this...
- When you press the notification icon in the bar, the panel appears but there's an empty (and transparent) space on top of the screen. It's not that bad but it's graphically stange and it doesn't occur with other panels (tasks, applications,...).
.:EDIT:.
Ok, I don't know how but I managed to add the Pure Calendar widget. It didn't worked the first times... and now it's ok.
If I'm allowed, I'd like to make some suggestions :
- settings to manage the scrolling bar content (applications, statuts,...)
- BetterCut support (please)
- Add a % indicator for the battery status in the bar
- support for the font packs
I'm trying it right now and I like it, however, I have gotten 4 FC/Wait messages so far when closing out of an application (ie. GMail). Other than that, very nice home replacement. This is the first time I've ever used a home replacement too.

I didn't get a chance to play with it last night much, but I have had the same problem this morning. I added the power, audio, music and pandora widgets and it really slowed it down. I have those same widgets running Cy 4.2.5 with no issues.
I really hope they get this right, it looks really nice.
Download app from website
App can now be downloaded from the site if you cant access market. See first post. Ive got it working fine with pure calender ill upload picture when i get home from work.
App in action
Here you go my homescreen and pure calendar running great.
Its ok.
For BETA I guess thats good.
Needs to be faster and more customizability.
Placing the power strip at top or bottom would be nice , ability to change whats in the power strip.
Do love that you can keep scrolling and get back to main screen.

Looking for 2 apps.

Hey guys.
I've searched for a couple of hours for 2 apps and can't find them. I ran a search on xda and nothing.
First app:
A battery indicator that i can see in the notification area but does not have a icon on the notification bar. I want to be able to drop down the notification bar and see the status of my battery in percentages. I prefer my notification bar as clean as possible.
Second app:
Power controls in the notification area. I found Quick Settings, but that opens another app to change the settings. I'm looking for a way to activate wifi, bluetooth and so on just by taping something in the notification area.
Thanks.
So, the conclusion is that there are no such apps?
It s only too much.
Quick settings is very impressive. It starts the app from the notification bar, thats right.
But, what would you all switch from the notification bar:
Wifi
APN
Brighness
GPS
Auto Sync
Bluetooth
Airplane Mode
etc...
There are too much options for one notification bar.
I'm thinking that an app like this would let me choose 3-4 toggles. I realize it's impossible to have them all.
Oh, and a toggle does not take a row, instead all the toggles should be on the same row but with separators between them.
OK, I' have to say, that I never found such a programm. Sorry.

So the default power bar widget won't work for you? It's pretty much exactly what you pictured, however a widget.
If you want to choose and have your own order, use beautiful widgets.
Why try and cram this into the notification area? You have 5 desktop screens (more with add-ons and custom ROM's) to put this stuff. Navigation from screen to screen is fast and easy (even if you hate the swipe thing).
Or this even? http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.extendedcontrols/
Dunno, just lost as to why I guess.
Yes, you are right, it looks like the power settings widget, but i want it in the notification area to be able to change settings without leaving the current app and stop using the widget. I need the space for other stuff
moved to the Q&A section
What about quickdesk? Kmobs hads mentioned it on twitter couple of times. you can put anything you want even the settings widget and can change it without leaving the app.

Hi,
that's a agood idea.
For me, the lock screen should contain my important information such as:
My next meetings
icons showing unread messages, mails, reminders
Control the media player
...
by the way, look at the S2U2 for WM (http://s2u2.ac-s2.com/)
3 words: LockInfo for iPhone
Great lockscreen mod. Wish I could have it on my Evo. Lots of screen room for all that info
Any new texts (tidbits)/emails/last 2-3 missed calls (name + number or just name)
Okay, new versión:
Do you like?
i quite like that
My ideal lock screen would be like my old meizu m8 had, quick pull up to messages, phone pad, and main page plus music controls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve_R9YKuyiY
You should add a button titled "Me" at the top that person can click to call your home phone number or an emergency contact. That would be very helpful for people who forgot their phone somewhere and need to find it.

That. Is. Awesome! If you changed the icons to the glass icons of LauncherPro or allowed custom icons.. :O~
By the way, is the unlock bar final?
Nice start, unlock bar is kinda too long though. Also change "Lock Screen" to "Slide to Unlock". Change the notification bubbles to green like Android, make them optional colors in settings.
Can you give framework-res or other sources of this screen lock?
Maybe a weather-widget would be a nice addition. Furthermore music-controls would be useful (only when playing music).

Wow, that's looking very nice now. I think the notification icons at the bottom should be a single colour though, rather than the full colour icon, otherwise it looks like an app icon you can just tap.
You can add big clock on the top...
If I may add my $.02 to the mix..
First of all, this looks awesome!
Here's what I would like to see in a lock screen:
Time, Battery Percentage, Date, Media Controls
You don't need the missed call icons or anything, because you can see that on your notification bar...It's wasted space.
I DO like the idea of the "call me" idea with a pre-programmed number attached to it. I think this would even be a great app, linked with GPS and SMS.
**Someone puts in the incorrect unlock code more than 3 times, and it sends a SMS to a predetermined number with your phones coordinates attached.
Update: (Will soon be available in the market, its name: Simply Lockscreen)
The icons in the statusbar and below are not definitive
Also please have a unlock tone, nothing harsh or too low, but similar to the iPhone. Also put your location under or somewhere near the time. Here is probably one of the best lockscreens I ever used on my iPhone, would love to seen somebody implement something similar for Android.
Ive always felt like info on the lockscreen should be of more importance than the actual lock or look of lock. Sorry if I'm going iPhone crazy, but it's not about the actual phone but about the info being displayed. Also give people options to show what they want, IE: Weather, Calender, Emails, Missed Calls, Text Messages since a lot of people like/want different things on there lock screen.

*honestly I have no idea why the image turned out to be so gigantic.. eh.. just go with it*
The Disclaimer has been known to cause disheartening, worry and anxiety but FEAR NOT! For I have used this phone for a GREAT deal of time (about twenty two minutes and a half) and I've not seem to have any glitches, random hiccups, nauseousness, seizures, so I think this is quite relatively stable..? I may end up erasing this line if I do end up in the care of [H]ouse M.D..
Moving on you'll notice the subtle changes in the colour scheme, fonts and the kinda blue, green, cyan, hybrid status bar.. I think they're inching towards translucency.
And by gosh, I wish I could show you guys the transitions between the pages - it's so smooth, so clean, so beautiful I'd wanna take it out to dinner, then maybe take it back to my place, t.. okay you get the idea.
Czech out that keyboard. The lack of lines almost makes me feel like this date is going nowhere...
And that ripple effect when you tap... Ooooooooh.
That ripple effect kinda starts off like a dot under your finger and in a blink starts spreading all over the selection looking all majestic as fork.
Time to put that password in... Notice the hybrid status bar finally making a decision to stay black.
Daymn Gurl, You got some good ol' ripples.
Well this hasn't changed..
Home Sweet..
You guys, I can't stress this enough, the notification shade has undergone a massive change...
..And the coolest lil thing I unfortunately couldn't get a screenshot of, was when you receive a new notification, or an existing one updates, if you're in the notification shade, you'll see the previous notification sort of fade out and a box-zoom in of the newer notification. It's such a sweet lil transition!
Also tapping on the top right corner now brings down your quick settings/toggles and another tap brings you to Settings. Swiping up and down over the notification shade brings a cool stack UI effect as the notifications get pushed up or down.. You'll see ongoing notifications shown first up with that lil white sorta thin line separating itself from the rest of the notifications because it's too cool and that's just how it rolls.
And this may surprise people but when you now pull down for the notifications, the screen gets an entire dark tinge and this tumblr like UI box shows up above.
Tapping on the quick toggle icons also has a ripple effect and like a circular zoom in to the settings' actions. This is all just to sweet. No wonder Android keeps naming them after sweet stuff.
Overscrolling has another change to it.. and reacts to the position of your finger!
Overscrolling when your finger is to the right,
Left,
And even when moving from a corner to the centre, the overscroll effect sorta follows your finger and changes its height!
Ripple-tastic.
Just a lil more glimpse of these ripples. I'm loving the subtle-ness xD
And multiple tapping on the Android version just brings up a whole lotta love for France..
Whole...
Lotta....
Vive la France.......
Also I dunno if you noticed but in the settings there's a search icon (to the top right) and that brings up this... So I guess you can get to the exact setting you want much quicker!
Meanwhile...
The recents is almost exactly like having multiple tabs open in Chrome, you can flick through them, they stack up, stack down, you can swipe away or X marks the spot..,
But here's the thing. If you've got a lotta swiping away to do, you're more likely than not gonna swipe away the current app you're in because as you swipe, it doesn't push the cards down to go to the more older apps, instead it pushes the stack up, forcing more recents to show up first, and that makes a it a lil inconvenient when cleaning up.
As of now, I love the new subtle changes...
(notice the folders on the home screen have a different pattern of stacking icons now - in a line, instead of sideways)
AND THATS ALL FOLKS!
*cue WB cartoon ending theme*
COMING SOON...
TO AN OPTION NEAR ABOUT PHONE.
I gotta dash. I guess I'll work on this later.
