Fone back from O2 - Blackberry and new software (aparently) - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Right got me fone back from O2 today saying the problem with dropping signal had been fixed
they also told me that they'd upgraded the software (o2's one) to the new version, which i thought was strange as i had the most recent version
Bulls**t i thought, til i looked in the settings and I've got Blackberry now, which is nice
thing is i'm sure the version is the same:
ROM Version: 1.11.00 WWE
Rom date: 01/27/05
Radio Version: 1.00.00
Protocol version: 1337.39
ExtROM verion: 1.11.169 WWE
there seems to be a lot more info under device info>hardware now like flasg chip type info, data bus etc which i'm sure wasn't there b4
have i got the same as others here or are they tricking me?

This is the latest version of software from O2, but basically has the new Blackberry software in it and not much else. There are different radio versions floating around - believe they are up to v1.04 - but if it's working fine for you now why bother trying to hack around?

yeah thats wot i was thinking
I'm also led to believe if i upgrade to 1.4 bt then my dongle in the car wont work anymore (as far as the company that make em bt is only up to 1.3) and my dongle is either 1.1 or 1.0
hope i understood that right

The radio version only relates to GSM Mobile Phone stuff; it doesn't make a blind bit of difference for Bluetooth or Wifi.
If Bluetooth works now, then it should work if you change the radio. Ditto, if it don't work now it's unlikely to work later.
Bluetooth has been through a few revisions in general.
1.0 - basic launch spec in 2001
1.1 - Launched 2002 and kept going till 2004. Most widely used but still a bit naff
1.2 - Launched late 03, small changes to improve battery performance and interop but no great shakes. Not widely implemented yet
2.0 - Launched late 04/early 05. Still being implemented and promises a lot.

T-Mobile UK Blackberry and Radio Upgrades

Has anyone with the current T-Mobile Shipped Rom, using the BB client updated to a higher radio/bluetooth version. If so, has it had an effect upon the BB client? If I recall correctly the BB client was shipped with 1.06 in Germany?
I would like to upgrade to 1.12 &3900 but afraid to do so.
Any help appreciated. Thanks
I called T-mobile and they sent me a disk with a ROM update that included Blackberry (Instant e-mail).
I installed the update, which ends with a hard re-set.
then I restored the MDA from a full Active sync backup. this of course overwrote the Blackberry app!
Then I unlocked the extended ROM using tools from this site. Then I ran the auto installer in extended rom and the Blackberry stuff was re-installed.
Then rang t-mobile and added Instant e-mail for £10 a month. Works well.
Got the T-Mobile BB upgrade, and got my account activated 4 weeks ago (radio is version 1.0, BT is 3500).
Got the BB service up and running, but when I tried to upgrade the radio stack to 1.10, everything worked fine on the phone side, but BB stopped working.
Contacted T-Mobile CS who tried to help me get it work, said everything was fine their end and even tried many options to make it work - In this particular instance I can honestly say that I have never had better customer service. At the start of the call, they offered to call me back right away (which they actually did) and the call lasted over an hour. Eventually we concluded that it must be a problem with the radio stack.
I re-installed from the T-Mobile 'upgrade' back down to radio 1.0 and everything worked fine 'straight out of the box'.
All the BB settings and data are stored in the storage area on the MDAIII, so hard resets do not mean loss of data and you don't have to reconfigure the BB client at all.
I haven't had the time to try any other radio stacks yet, but would be interested to hear anyone else's experiences.
Has anyone managed to extract the BB client from the T-Mobile UK ROM yet? If so, would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction?
Also, has anyone managed to get it working with another operator (specifically Vodafone)
Thanks!!

Did you manage to try BB with the 1.06 Rom on the FTP site. I am making an assumption that it should work as Germany released BB client with 1.06, but we all know what assuming does....
I am hoping that someone more expert than me will act as guinea pig :?:
Thanks J
The version I am using is
MDA3_TMUK_v106160_SHIP0307.exe
It works fine for me. I am using the t-mobile instant email account and it is also polling my standard pop3 account. I don't have a BES.
T-Mobile BB with Radio ROM 1.06 and upwards
OOPs apologies I wasn't very clear in my last post. What I was referring to is whether you have upgraded the Radio ROM from version 1.0 which is the one contained within the 1.06 BB Rom.
I am running BB fine on my device as well with the updated ROM. The problem, as ever, is the bluetooth range and quality. I believe that 1.06 is supposed to be a significant improvement over 1.0, even if 1.08/1.10 or 1.12 cannot be used.
Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for the tip. I'll upgrade to 106 asap and give it a try.
Jiggy - Sorry I took so long to reply, but I've been busy. Finally got round to installing 1.06 Rom on the FTP site and BB works. Thanks for the suggestion.
BB with Radio 1.06 and BT3900??
XDA Rocks - thanks for the response now I will give it a try
Have you upgraded the stack to 3900 in addition to the 1.06 upgrade?
I just wondered whether this will affect the BB.
Thanks J
T-mobile Blackberry
Gentlemen - many thanks for all the feedback and especially MDAIIIUSER for all the guidance.
Got slightly carried away and went the whole hog!
MDA III on UK T-mobile
Flashed with 1.40 ROM, 1.12 Radio and BA_ERK_13 (from 1.22 kitchen)
+BT 3900
Everything worked well and the bluetooth may have been marginally better.
However could not get the blackberry client to work. Using instant email - the system would log on and then drop out without registering. (Similar probs in other threads). Again Tmobile customer service were exemplary and we tried everything - finally resetting back down to 1.06 ROM, 1.00 Radio and 1.06 Ext ROM. Now it all works again!
Therefore I'm assuming it's the radio that's the problem and that 1.12 does not work with BB. When feelinfg brave again will upgrade the radio to 1.06 and the Ext ROM to BA_ERK_13. Is the consensus opinion that this is sensible and should I be able to get away with the main ROM upgrade to 1.40? Anyone else tried any other combinations that allow BB to work?

Not sure if I read what you wrote correct or if you obmited some info.
Anyway If you used the ERK_122_013, in its full then you also upgraded patches like BT that are part of the 1.40.
You need to only use the customizing files and the ERK_140_Base files
As for the BB, you need to read the thread on that, think it went along the lines that only the 1.06 radio worked.

Yes, upgraded to 3900 and BB works fine - BT still crackles though.
Radio 1.06
xda
Sorry to be a pain but could you PM me with the link or send me the 1.06 radio upgrade file. I couldn't find it on wiki (lowest I could find was 1.08).
Do you think it is worthwhile upgrading in terms of the quality and range of the bt (I note your comment that it is still crackling  ). Hopefully you have noticed some improvement?
Thanks again
Jase
Jiggy,
I found the radio rom on the ftp site in
/BlueAngel/Radio_Roms
I have upgraded to 1.06 and BT3900 and personally haven't noticed any improvement using Jabra 200 and Bluespoon AX headsets
T-mobile Blackberry
MDAIIIUSER
Many thanks again.
Just confirming but if I understand correctly - the best that we can hope for on our UK MDA IIIs at present is: (with Blackberry working)
ROM 1.06
Radio 1.06
Ext ROM 1.40 cooked (customised as required)
Is this correct?

SX66 Problems, and how do I update ?

I would like some help and advice here, am I hoping on too much from my SX66 or do I have Software/Rom Issues? I'm a newbe here so I'm sorry for this being so longl
I have been using a Motorola MPx220, I loved the way it worked with outlook, and bluetooth, so I thougth it would be nice to have a true PDA for notes etc and a phone in one. up to now for the last 6 months I have been using a Motorola MPx220 & an HP4705 pda for making notes etc.
I have had SX66 for a little less than a week, the signal reception has be horrible for example here at my computer the MPX220 has full signa yet the SX66 only has 1 bar
My device info is as follows:
ROM Version: 1.33.10 WWE
ROM Date: 1/21/05
Radio Version: 1.02.10
Protocol Version: 1337.35
ExtROM version: 1.33.110 WWE
The case that came with the phone doesn't do a good job staying on the belt, I have had issues with making a call and having no audio at all, this is with bluetooth, hardwire earphones or just the phone.
so far I HATE this phone, does anyone else have any expierence with this phone? Do I just have a lemon or is it the phone?
I travel about 4-5 days per week on average across the southeast it would be nice to have an all in one device, be able to surf the web with a larger screen, write directly to the screen for notes etc. and maybe even e-mail but this really sucks, I also have been trying to set it up on my 802.11b/g network but I don't have any luck setting it up, I do have a password on the network but I can't seem to get this shown.
Please let me know what you think, I'm open for suggestions, also If I keep this phone/pda what is the best case for it?
Thanks for all of your help.
I have the Krusell Multidapt for my SX66; it adds very little bulk, especially if you don't attach the belt hook. I bought mine on eBay a few months back for $23.
You should definitely update the firmware; I'm using the standardized SX66 ROM, and I've noticed definite improvements in BT and WiFi performance. I use WiFi both at home & office; it's free and much faster than GPRS.
I haven't noticed any GSM signal issues in metro Atlanta; I live in Duluth & work on Mansell near North Point Parkway. I get excellent signal at home but only one bar (on a good day) at the office, but the phone works well there. FWIW, when I visited Southern Cali last Xmas, my SX66 did better in low signal conditions than my dad's Nokia.
Yes, updating your device to the latest Radio ROM will go a LONG way in helping you out. I have a PDA2k that I am using on Cingular, and have notice a great deal of signal improvement here in Nashville, TN with the 1.13 Radio ROM.
if you go to the Blue Angel Wiki page, you should find links to all the firmware updates you need, including the Radio ROM.
The SX66 Extended ROM Standardization Project will also have a decent Ext. ROM that you can use. It will have the latest BlueTooth stack in it, as well as updated software for use in the SX66.
I see a few reply's about updating the Rom
Which ROM is best? I have seen reply's telling of different sites for rom's also for a newbe any place I can get good step by step directions?
Thanks
Also keep the advice comming I really appreciate all of the help

XDA MINI S ain't connecting with MSN Messneger

hi
i have the O2 xda mini S
and it seems to have a mind of it's own, as it won't connect to MSN messenger when i want it to, some times it does, sometimes it doesn't,
the message i get is "temporary conditions currently prevent connecting to the pocket MSN service"
which i've heard is a common problem with these factory fresh XDA Mins S'.
i've downloaded the firmware from the o2 website and flashed the unit, and at 1st it seemed ok, but a few days later the problem came back, and now it's not having any of it.
i've phoned O2 up about this problem, and they seem to be as much help as a wet paper bag! i've gone through all the gprs settings with them.
They say, seen as i can conenct to the interent through GPRS via internet explorer then the unit it's self is funtioning fine, even though messenger doesn't, so they told me to contact Microsoft, yeah right!
has any one got any ideas or fixs that would cure this predicument of mine?
i would be most greatful.
i'm on
ROM ver 2.21.4.1 WWE
ROM DATE: 3/9/06
Radio ver: 02.07.10
Protocol Ver: 413.1.03
ExtROM ver: 2.21.4.101

Another WiFi problem.

I have an AT&T Tilt, but I've flashed it to another ROM. The WiFi has worked intermittently since I've owned the phone, but only after flashed the AT&T ROM out of it for the first time (around December of 2007).
What I'd really like (if it's even possible) is any default registry settings anyone can think of.
Here is all the relevant information I can think of:
Operator Version: iolite by poldo
ROM Version: iolite_v05 WWE
ROM Date: 02/25/09
Radio Version: 1.65.24.36
Protocol Version: 25.94.40.06H
I do have WMWifiRouter installed and it has worked with the program. The newest version.
I've been through these forums, Google, PPCGeeks... I've downloaded a "wifi/ics fix" cab I found on this site... I've made sure that the HKLM/Software/HTC/CommManager/WLAN key is /TNETW12511...
I did notice that under HKLM/Comm/TNETW12511 there is an ImagePath file that is TNETW1251.dll (note the lack of a second "1"). I traced the file, and it is correctly named. It's always been this way.
I post because it seems like I was using WiFi one evening, shared to my MBP, I shut everything down, went to sleep, and when I woke up the next day, my WiFi was absolutely borked.
EDIT - Also, as an aside... my weather tab just magically quit working. This is independent of my WiFi issue (I assume) because it auto-updates through my data plan.

HTC-8900 Kaiser stock...any suggestions?

Hello everyone
I have a HTC Kaiser with these specs...
WM 6 Professional
CE 5.2.1622 (build18128.0.4.4)
ROM ver 1.62.502.0
ROM date 1/17/08
Radio ver 1.27.14.09
Protocol ver 22.45.88.07H
Whats the latest ver of WM that will be compatible?
Any critical updates for security or make the phone run more efficent?
How can I make my signal for phone stronger?
Thanks,
DamianJP
There are MANY versions of WM 6.5 avaialblehere in the Upgrades/rom section.. look them over.. There may even be a WM 7 rom up by now.. Read about the diffrent roms to see what will work best for you... And you might want to find out what radio is best for your specific carrier, that might improve your signal strength....
Cool I didn't know if I was locked into this version.
I'll have to check the radio thing too.
Also this phone was given to me from a friend. I broke my old nokia but salvaged the SIM out of it. Works fine still have same number but none of the contacts swapped over.
I never really set anything up besides e-mail acct.
And I only access internet stuff with WiFi not media.net.
Do I have to set the SIM and/or phone up too?
Thanks again Teej,
DamianJP
