Right got me fone back from O2 today saying the problem with dropping signal had been fixed
they also told me that they'd upgraded the software (o2's one) to the new version, which i thought was strange as i had the most recent version
Bulls**t i thought, til i looked in the settings and I've got Blackberry now, which is nice
thing is i'm sure the version is the same:
ROM Version: 1.11.00 WWE
Rom date: 01/27/05
Radio Version: 1.00.00
Protocol version: 1337.39
ExtROM verion: 1.11.169 WWE
there seems to be a lot more info under device info>hardware now like flasg chip type info, data bus etc which i'm sure wasn't there b4
have i got the same as others here or are they tricking me?

This is the latest version of software from O2, but basically has the new Blackberry software in it and not much else. There are different radio versions floating around - believe they are up to v1.04 - but if it's working fine for you now why bother trying to hack around?
yeah thats wot i was thinking
I'm also led to believe if i upgrade to 1.4 bt then my dongle in the car wont work anymore (as far as the company that make em bt is only up to 1.3) and my dongle is either 1.1 or 1.0
hope i understood that right

The radio version only relates to GSM Mobile Phone stuff; it doesn't make a blind bit of difference for Bluetooth or Wifi.
If Bluetooth works now, then it should work if you change the radio. Ditto, if it don't work now it's unlikely to work later.
Bluetooth has been through a few revisions in general.
1.0 - basic launch spec in 2001
1.1 - Launched 2002 and kept going till 2004. Most widely used but still a bit naff
1.2 - Launched late 03, small changes to improve battery performance and interop but no great shakes. Not widely implemented yet
2.0 - Launched late 04/early 05. Still being implemented and promises a lot.

My K-Jam / MDA Vario is two hours old but damn, she's fine ! I see about the speed thing but it's not that obtrusive. I understand the WM 5 thing about loading the programs from ROM into RAM to execute but I have questions later.Given the other integrated features I like, fine compromise. Now on to the topic at hand:
Bought this unit from importgsm.com for US$589.99 (sweet). It's T-Mobile MDA Vario from Germany so all manuals, CDs, etc are in German. Not too worry, lot's of English PDF manuals, start up docs on the web. Have done my first AS 4.1 sync, no problems. Installed a few programs so far, no problems.
Had to checked for EDGE in Austin, TX so set up an APN connection of internet3.voicestream.com and times connect speeds at 81.6Kbps (10KBps) using www.texan.com/speed.htm. This seems higher than my GPRS connect specs I had recorded on my XDA II at 45Kbps - 52Kbps.
Questions:
A Qtek ROM/Radio was loaded on this unit even though it's TMO. ImportGSM customer service says it's a better ROM at the moment for Wizard units that they stock. The i-mates are hard to come by he said.
1) How do I check that the speed slow down items, I've read about (virus scanner, etc) are installed and/or running? Then, naturally, how to eliminate them.
2) Here's my ROM/Radio specs for Qtek:
ROM: 1.1.7.5 dated 9/22/05
Radio: 1.1.10.0
Protocol: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM: 1.1.7.105
Given that, what's the XDA communities recommedation on upgrading ROM/Radio? Is this an "old" ROM/Radio"? Should I wait longer to upgrade? Should I go with i-mate's latest, do a Qtek upgrade, use TMO ... ??? Thoughts gentlemen?
I'm comfortable with EXE upgrades but not RAR upgrades but could, in a pinch, do it.
Craig
on average how long does it take to install??
Very quick. Five/ten minutes at the most, with the Windows installation app it's really as easy as pie. Stick the phone in the cradle, Run the installation app, it does all the other stuff (it puts your phone into bootloader, flashes each part of the ROM, and then reboots the phone once it's done).
How hard is that! (You say, 'oh, not hard at all,' to which I reply, 'I KNOW!') Understand that it's not some kind of funky custom install, the installation app was one provided for a particular model of HTC by Qtek (I believe), and it was hacked to not look for a particular device ID (allowing use on every phone), and the ROM is just the regular O2 ROM, O2 customised ExtROM and all, just with the upgraded radio stack (unless of course, you download his latest ROMs with the O2 stuff stripped out, which is also possible). The tool will work with any of these roms, all you have to do is follow the step-by-step instructions. Even I could manage it first time round no problems.
My XDAIIi is:
Rom version: 1.11.00WWE
Rom Date: 01/27/05
Radio version: 1.00.00
Protocol version: 1337.39
ExtRom: 1.11.923WWE
If upgrade with pug rom, what difference I will notice from my xdaIIi?
any benefits? where I can download the pug rom?
Thanks I am new to this forum
Well, as you can see from my sig, which is pug's cooked ROM:
Alpine, 1.11.162, 1.04 Radio...
ROM Version: 1.11.00 WWE
ROM date: 01/27/05
Radio version: 1.04.00
Protocol version: 1337.42
ExtROM version: 1.11.162 WWE
That's what you'll get - compare it to what you have at the moment, and you'll see the updates.
The difference in Radio ROM version seems to be just simple upgrades to the sound quality and signal etc. As for the ExtROM, that will depend on which one you choose... some may have just programs/plugins removed (the O2ActiveUI for example) others may have extra program suites added.
If you do upgrade the rom to one of the several cooked ones available on here, go with Pug's ROM which contains the 1.04 radio, the O2 stuff stripped out and the camera 'update' not included - apparently, without the camera update, the picture quality is loads better. I can't be bothered to reflash my 2i all over again and reinstall all my bits and pieces, just to try this out though, but other users report better quality without the O2 'upgrade'.
The O2 stuff is also useless, so get the O2StuffStripped at the very least. The 1.04 radio made a big difference for me (marginal signal before, I had to stand on one leg and put my arm out the window whilst wearing a tinfoil hat to get signal before in my house, but now so long as I'm on the first floor I can get signal! which is a tenfold improvement from before).
I did miss the O2 battery plugin for the Today screen, but I managed to find a seperate install for it on these forums anyway!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26995
That much is true - initially I did too; however, I found that the O2 Plus battery meter is much better (and shows more information in the same pixel space), so I'm happy with that for now.
Whats the difference between the 2 and where would I get the Plus one from? Any chance you could post some screenshots showing the difference?
Would really appreciate it!!!
G
O2 Plus battery meter comes part of the O2 Plus application which you can install onto your Alpine (you have to get the patched version which will install on any device as opposed to the device-locked original installer which O2 Asia release for its customers) - just look on the forums for it.
How do you rate the pictures taken by a standart Alpine and by an Alpine using the modified ROM of pug (from 1 to 10, where 10 is the best and say it is a picture taken by a high quality digital camera working at 1.3 Mega pixel)?
If you can reply for indoor and outdoor seperately it will be more helpful.
Cheers.
The first custom rom for the Alpine released onto the forum, and the one I'm using (Modified_XDA_IIi_Upgrade_v1.11.162_Radio_1.04.rar) includes the 'update' which actually makes the camera quality worse. However, once it's on you can't just uninstall it, I found out I'd have to basically hard reset and install the latest ROM which doesn't have the stupid update included.
The ROM you want to use is Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.rar - I can't provide you with a quality comparison because I've not used that one (yet), but from what I hear from people who have used it, the quality is much better - much closer to how you'd expect it to be from an (albeit mobile phone, but still) 1.3mpixel camera.
Thank you for the detailed answer.
With all respect, can Pug verify this? Previously it was explained that the only difference between the 2 ROM was one still has O2 stuff in it, the other stripped.
Shouldnt be any difference in camera.
The camera_fixed aspect refers to the removal of a software patch applied to one of the DLLs on the phone used for the camera software - the changes the 'update' makes to the DLL in question actually makes the quality of subsequent images taken MUCH worse. Not installing this patch restores the camera quality to its original (and better) state.
I haven't tried it out myself, this ROM came out just after I'd hard reset and then totally restored my XDA from scratch, and I couldn't be bothered to start over a third time, but from people who have used the camera_fixed ROM, they report that the camera quality is in fact improved.
Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.rar by Pug did improve the camera quality, but this only setback was it would downgrade the recording sound quality.
and it didn't strip the O2 stuff imo, still got the o2 logo at start and the GUI thing.
The O2 splash screen can be removed by means of dropping a correctly-formatted image into the root directory of your phone and running a CAB file on your device (again, obtained from this forum) - and bingo, new splash screen.
Because the original image is in the ROM, and nowhere else, I also stripped out the original O2 splash screen from a ROM and posted it on this forum, in case anyone ever wants to sell their device and wipe it clean of all their installed stuff, without having to flash the ROM).
Interesting that you say the O2 GUI stuff is still there... Did you try the corporate install method?
Pug's ROM
I've been reading about pug's ROMs and have found (in the forum) some missing features after installing said ROMs...
These are the band selsctor, and screen rotation icon...
has anybody found out how to restore these?
I haven't tried the ROMs yet because I want to keep these said features after changing the ROM...
regarding the screen rotation icon, is the screenrotate.dll still part of the startup service? Memmaid can show the startup service to check whether it is still there or not. Also, maybe the rotate icon is not showing due to the registry settings?
Ok I just got my self this wonderful machine. A Cingular 8125 and i LOVE IT!
except of course all this cingular logo's and pictures on my phone.
Anywhere from turning it on, to the background, to calling.
I live up in Alaska and there is no cingular or I would use them. The only cell phone company that is good is called CelloneUSA.com.
My phone info is:
ROM version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version 4.1.13.12
extROM version 2.25.11.102 (i changed the boot splash)
My question is I love the programs on my phone. From the whole MSOffice (word, outlook, excel, access, powerpoint) all where defaulted on this bad boy.
But I'm getting real tired of seeing this orange man everywhere i look.
I was reading about ROM updates and changing this, but I think my Radio rom is good (not sure if it can get any better). And not really sure what will happen to my programs if i do a rom update/ hard boot.
I don't mind lossing my contacts and my information that i put in the phone. But I do mind lossing my programs that came with the phone.
Any help / information would be greatly appreciated. because I dont want my new $400 phone become my next paperweight like my alienware laptop (grrrr, different story). However I would try anything to get rid of the orange man. I would love to find a way to change the color scheme of the phone also. (I'm a little bit lazy, so a premade one would be perfect)
I thought this phone had windows on it. You know right click and go to themes and change the looks.
Also i wish there was an alt-tab function, and an ability to open up more then 1 IE browser, and some how to update windows media player to recognize avi files, mpg files, java would be nice, and why can i not install anything with the *.inf?
I feel like such a nub (thats worse then a noob)
Like I said im new to the mobile PDA world. And any information would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I just turned off my phone and turned it back on to get more information about the phone.
It states:
IPL: 2.25
SPL: 2.25
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.25.11.1
I hope this helps out.
thanks again for any info!
I'm new to all this phone modding and such so I'm here to look for some help from all the PDA phone gurus here. I'm handy around computers but never flashed a phone before. Not afraid to trying.
I'm on Rogers with my AT&T Tilt in Vancouver, Canada and my data is extremely slow. I picked it up a used and it already has another ROM on it:
ROM version: dutty's WM6.1 WWE
ROM date: 04/29/08
Radio version: 1.65.14.06
Protocol version: 25.81.40.02W
My original Rogers TYTN has good 3G speeds but using the same SIM card in the Tilt yield extremely slow results, 402kb/s down and 55kb/s up.
Additionally, I can't get my outlook to connect to my mail server. Had no issues with that on my original TYTN either.
Welcome to XDA. Since you aren't afraid to flash, go ahead and start reading here:

Looks like a bit of reading for me tonight. Can anyone suggest a good ROM and radio that would play nice with Rogers?
