Slow Data Speeds on Tilt - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I'm new to all this phone modding and such so I'm here to look for some help from all the PDA phone gurus here. I'm handy around computers but never flashed a phone before. Not afraid to trying.
I'm on Rogers with my AT&T Tilt in Vancouver, Canada and my data is extremely slow. I picked it up a used and it already has another ROM on it:
ROM version: dutty's WM6.1 WWE
ROM date: 04/29/08
Radio version: 1.65.14.06
Protocol version: 25.81.40.02W
My original Rogers TYTN has good 3G speeds but using the same SIM card in the Tilt yield extremely slow results, 402kb/s down and 55kb/s up.
Additionally, I can't get my outlook to connect to my mail server. Had no issues with that on my original TYTN either.

Welcome to XDA. Since you aren't afraid to flash, go ahead and start reading here:

There is all the info you need to successfully flash, upgrade, etc for your phone.

This is also a handy checklist to make sure you're not missing anything when flashing:

Thanks for the links!
Looks like a bit of reading for me tonight. Can anyone suggest a good ROM and radio that would play nice with Rogers?

SX66 Rom Kitchen

I'm looking to buy an SX66. I had a few questions:
1. Is there are ROM Kitchen to cook an updated ROM for the SX66?
2. What is the latest ROM version for the SX66?
3. If I buy an unlocked Cingular version SX66, what problems could I expect using it with T-Mobile or other carrier?
TIA,
Joe

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I'll sort through your links and see if I can make out the answers.
Honestly piecing together a ROM is a bit beyond me, but I'll see what I can understand.
It was much easier with the old ROM Kitchens.
Thank you again for your help.

Great info in these links.
Thanks again

Happy reading!
I am thinking about buying an unlocked Cingular version of this phone.
I would use it for my T-Mobile service and would use it on asian carriers while travelling. vDo you know of any problem in the cingular rom that will cause me problems with email or gprs on other systems (assuming the phone is indeed unlocked)
Can you give me your opinion?
Thank you
Sorry can't answer dont know anything about that device, have no link to web page. But if its the same as the siemens as in a GSM phone you will be fine. As or the rest well yo can cook it.
Hey Joe, I bought the SX66 from a Cingular store a few weeks ago to use on T-Mobile. It's been working fine, GPRS included.
Out of the box, I had to remove the Cingular stuff and set up the GPRS connection manually (I just changed the APN to wap.voicestream.com). After reading the forums here for a while, I installed the Siemens update to 1.33, then I got more creative and installed the Radio ROM 1.10 and cooked up my own ExtROM. If you go this route, look in the Kitchen for T-Mo USA cabs that will set up GPRS and proxy settings for you.
If you need help, PM me. Good luck!

SX66 Problems, and how do I update ?

I would like some help and advice here, am I hoping on too much from my SX66 or do I have Software/Rom Issues? I'm a newbe here so I'm sorry for this being so longl
I have been using a Motorola MPx220, I loved the way it worked with outlook, and bluetooth, so I thougth it would be nice to have a true PDA for notes etc and a phone in one. up to now for the last 6 months I have been using a Motorola MPx220 & an HP4705 pda for making notes etc.
I have had SX66 for a little less than a week, the signal reception has be horrible for example here at my computer the MPX220 has full signa yet the SX66 only has 1 bar
My device info is as follows:
ROM Version: 1.33.10 WWE
ROM Date: 1/21/05
Radio Version: 1.02.10
Protocol Version: 1337.35
ExtROM version: 1.33.110 WWE
The case that came with the phone doesn't do a good job staying on the belt, I have had issues with making a call and having no audio at all, this is with bluetooth, hardwire earphones or just the phone.
so far I HATE this phone, does anyone else have any expierence with this phone? Do I just have a lemon or is it the phone?
I travel about 4-5 days per week on average across the southeast it would be nice to have an all in one device, be able to surf the web with a larger screen, write directly to the screen for notes etc. and maybe even e-mail but this really sucks, I also have been trying to set it up on my 802.11b/g network but I don't have any luck setting it up, I do have a password on the network but I can't seem to get this shown.
Please let me know what you think, I'm open for suggestions, also If I keep this phone/pda what is the best case for it?
Thanks for all of your help.
I have the Krusell Multidapt for my SX66; it adds very little bulk, especially if you don't attach the belt hook. I bought mine on eBay a few months back for $23.
You should definitely update the firmware; I'm using the standardized SX66 ROM, and I've noticed definite improvements in BT and WiFi performance. I use WiFi both at home & office; it's free and much faster than GPRS.
I haven't noticed any GSM signal issues in metro Atlanta; I live in Duluth & work on Mansell near North Point Parkway. I get excellent signal at home but only one bar (on a good day) at the office, but the phone works well there. FWIW, when I visited Southern Cali last Xmas, my SX66 did better in low signal conditions than my dad's Nokia.
Yes, updating your device to the latest Radio ROM will go a LONG way in helping you out. I have a PDA2k that I am using on Cingular, and have notice a great deal of signal improvement here in Nashville, TN with the 1.13 Radio ROM.
if you go to the Blue Angel Wiki page, you should find links to all the firmware updates you need, including the Radio ROM.
The SX66 Extended ROM Standardization Project will also have a decent Ext. ROM that you can use. It will have the latest BlueTooth stack in it, as well as updated software for use in the SX66.
I see a few reply's about updating the Rom
Which ROM is best? I have seen reply's telling of different sites for rom's also for a newbe any place I can get good step by step directions?
Thanks
Also keep the advice comming I really appreciate all of the help

Got My New MDA Vario (TMO) - Now to Upgrade, Have Questions

My K-Jam / MDA Vario is two hours old but damn, she's fine ! I see about the speed thing but it's not that obtrusive. I understand the WM 5 thing about loading the programs from ROM into RAM to execute but I have questions later.Given the other integrated features I like, fine compromise. Now on to the topic at hand:
Bought this unit from importgsm.com for US$589.99 (sweet). It's T-Mobile MDA Vario from Germany so all manuals, CDs, etc are in German. Not too worry, lot's of English PDF manuals, start up docs on the web. Have done my first AS 4.1 sync, no problems. Installed a few programs so far, no problems.
Had to checked for EDGE in Austin, TX so set up an APN connection of internet3.voicestream.com and times connect speeds at 81.6Kbps (10KBps) using www.texan.com/speed.htm. This seems higher than my GPRS connect specs I had recorded on my XDA II at 45Kbps - 52Kbps.
Questions:
A Qtek ROM/Radio was loaded on this unit even though it's TMO. ImportGSM customer service says it's a better ROM at the moment for Wizard units that they stock. The i-mates are hard to come by he said.
1) How do I check that the speed slow down items, I've read about (virus scanner, etc) are installed and/or running? Then, naturally, how to eliminate them.
2) Here's my ROM/Radio specs for Qtek:
ROM: 1.1.7.5 dated 9/22/05
Radio: 1.1.10.0
Protocol: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM: 1.1.7.105
Given that, what's the XDA communities recommedation on upgrading ROM/Radio? Is this an "old" ROM/Radio"? Should I wait longer to upgrade? Should I go with i-mate's latest, do a Qtek upgrade, use TMO ... ??? Thoughts gentlemen?
I'm comfortable with EXE upgrades but not RAR upgrades but could, in a pinch, do it.

need advise for cingular 8125 plz help

Ok I just got my self this wonderful machine. A Cingular 8125 and i LOVE IT!
except of course all this cingular logo's and pictures on my phone.
Anywhere from turning it on, to the background, to calling.
I live up in Alaska and there is no cingular or I would use them. The only cell phone company that is good is called CelloneUSA.com.
My phone info is:
ROM version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version 4.1.13.12
extROM version 2.25.11.102 (i changed the boot splash)
My question is I love the programs on my phone. From the whole MSOffice (word, outlook, excel, access, powerpoint) all where defaulted on this bad boy.
But I'm getting real tired of seeing this orange man everywhere i look.
I was reading about ROM updates and changing this, but I think my Radio rom is good (not sure if it can get any better). And not really sure what will happen to my programs if i do a rom update/ hard boot.
I don't mind lossing my contacts and my information that i put in the phone. But I do mind lossing my programs that came with the phone.
Any help / information would be greatly appreciated. because I dont want my new $400 phone become my next paperweight like my alienware laptop (grrrr, different story). However I would try anything to get rid of the orange man. I would love to find a way to change the color scheme of the phone also. (I'm a little bit lazy, so a premade one would be perfect)
I thought this phone had windows on it. You know right click and go to themes and change the looks.
Also i wish there was an alt-tab function, and an ability to open up more then 1 IE browser, and some how to update windows media player to recognize avi files, mpg files, java would be nice, and why can i not install anything with the *.inf?
I feel like such a nub (thats worse then a noob)
Like I said im new to the mobile PDA world. And any information would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I just turned off my phone and turned it back on to get more information about the phone.
It states:
IPL: 2.25
SPL: 2.25
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.25.11.1
I hope this helps out.
thanks again for any info!

What ROM / Radio are you using at the moment?
Ta
Dave
Dutys series
[Apr 29] Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700
There are two versions of that ROM, one for 1.64.* and one for 1.65.* radio drivers.
Check which one you have and try installing the correct Radio.
Radios are so easy to flash, just download them to your storage card and flash them whenever. Just keep trying them.
A lot of people seem to like 1.65.20.29.
This might not be a radio issue. Could be a bad flash, or some buggy software.
Dave
Thanks I'll give it a go!
