I-mate PDA 2
ROM version: 1.11.00 WWE
ROM date: 01/27/05
Radio version: 1.03.00
Protocol version 1337.42
ExtROM version: 1.11.144 WWE
its the latest off the i-mate website. or do u suggest another rom update from smwhere else? cuz the thing is that i'm also running arabic, so i don't want 2 lose that no matter what u know. any suggestions?
hi demiseh,
please do backup using such as Sprite Backup before upgrade........
http://www.klstore.com/mael/Radio 1.04.rar
this file just included Radio 1.04 upgrade only for Alpine.
restore back the backup so that you dont lost anything.....
thanks
As clustered said you should do a full back with a software like "Sprite Backup" before you start applying the new Radio Version 1.04.00, as it will hardreset your device and all data will be lost.
Go to ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Alpine and download XDA_IIi_Upgrade_v1.11.162_Radio_1.04.rar . Extract the file to a folder of your choice. Then DELETE files ms_.nbf and nk.nbf from that folder, only leave radio_.nbf in place.
Connect your device to the PC via ActiveSync, then start MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe , it will not run through completely, after a while it will get stuck. Kill the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe via Windows task manager, while leaving your device connected. Then restart MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, the second time the update will go through.
After you finished, restore your Backup.
You will not lose your specific language settings.

Problem With Restore
upgrade done minor problem with restore from SD card... ---> at killing processes it freezes on 10seconds:/ why? any ideas?
umm, no idea! were you able to restore though anyway?
thx god yes! just now did it.
ok, here's the thing i dont understand:
1. afet hard reset - all data restored from the beginning
2. --> if all data lost -> then what happens to the available copy of Sprite Back-up on the device? its also lost correct? though i had it installed on my SD card, so its technically there, but not visible by the Device.
3. i click on the file, to load from SD card and auto-restore my device, and evrythin theoretically works fine except it freezes.
how did i fix it?
1. didnt work from PC, dunno why.
2. so what i did was install sprite back-up again, obviously crack it, and restore it manually from there ---> what happened? ---> FROZE AGAIN
3. so once i had the sprite back-up already installed once again (step 2), i just restored from the PC and this time it worked...weird...dunno what happened, what went wrong, but i was freaked out for a second & was goin2 rip my hair out. how do u guys restore? from PC or from PPC? and do u do it via the Sprite application or just by clickling the file on the PPC? more info needed hope it wont happen soon
It's probably one of the process started via the autostart that is has problems killing, try moving some things from \Windows\AutoStart to a backup folder some place, then reboot your device - try restore again - if it runs through copy the things you moved back into \Windows\AutoStart
hm...interesting. but here's another fact:
i was running in advanced mode::: i had also tried disabling the 'process kill' feature, and still at 10Seconds it froze for some reason....i dunno. i deleted the old backup on the sd, and i'm creating a new one. then i'll make a new back-up on the PC, and try restoring it once more both ways to figure it all out. freaky still

Does anyone in here know if I can safeley reload my Sprite Back-Up after a ROM Upgrade without screwing-up details of the ROM-Upgrade ?
I mean: If I understand this right, after Booting parts of the ROM ar loaded into the RAM, which could be overwritten.
Or am I totally off here ?
After a rom upgrade, you should never restore a complete backup, regardless of the backup program you use. With sprite, it is easy to do a restore of individual databases (appointments, contacts, email, sms etc), as well as the document folder. The other option is to use the "device upgarde" functionality of Sprite Backup, but for that to work, you will need to make an image of the machine with the new rom I believe, and without anything installed. (but for that you need to check the manual).
You should never restore a full backup, since you will be restoring parts of the old ROM in the process.
I only use Sprite backup as a fall-back in case of a problem with a Rom update.
Even if you select the "allow upgrades" option, it can overwrite some of the data that you have just changed in the upgrade.
I have loaded all of my apps and data that I must retain on a memory card and I just reload them from it.
Hope this helps........Later

Here is how I see it: Any file that is not ROM-based will be pulled by Sprite Backup.
Even though a hard-reset will reload all the Extended ROM CAB files, they are still in the Storage/Program Memory and can still be replaced, deleted, etc. They are supplemental to the ROM files from the CE ROM core.
A good experience is when I upgraded to Build 3900 on my Extended ROM and restored a Sprite Backup file afterwards and noticed it went back to 3500. The BT*.* files in the Windows directory were backed up, and thus restored, overwriting the work done by the Extended ROM load.
The best thing to do is "move along" your backup file with your upgrades.
If you decide to recook your Extended ROM, upgrade CAB files or builds, then keep that upgrade CAB file handy to run again. I would highly recommend using a program such as OCP Software's WinCE CAB Manager to look into the CAB files you are replacing to see what files and registry entries get directly affected.
Bottom line method for me is 1. backup your PPC, 2. update the Extended ROM, 3. hard-reset, 4. restore the PPC, 5. reapply any new CABs from the Extended ROM, 5. rebackup the PPC.
By the way, the Upgrade works especially well when you have a new CE ROM that has new ROM files, such as Windows Media Player 10 (if and when it comes out). According to the instructions on Sprite's site, you run the Upgrade utility on the clean (hard-reset) image with the OLD ROM, perform the upgrade, then restore your backup WITH the Upgrade Data.
Thank you. Sounds very logical. A complicated process, but it beats reconfiguring the MDA after an Update by several hours ...
Good that all the people who envy us for our "MDAIII" don't know how much time we waste getting these machines to work ....

you mean copy the "program files" folder to SD-card and the load it back ? or how :?:
You can copy all the CAB files from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync folder onto the SD card for safekeeping, or look for a program called CabBackup, which has been proven useful in many a situation.
Hi,
i flashed the TOFCLOCK HIMA WM6 AKU.0.7.0 Fresh
upgrading from WM5.
After that I restored a Sprite-Backup that I made from
WM5 to get all my Apps up and running.
Everything works fine so far, only the camera-button is
not working. It says "Error opening the shortcut or locating
the target filename".
I tried to reconfigure the button under Start->Settings->Button
but there I cannot find the Camera Application???
It is gone somehow. I also dont find it with file-explorer.
Can someone tell me the NAME of the Application, where it should
be located? \Windows - folder I guess???
And can I separately install it, do I only need the exe or also some
dlls.
Can someone provide me the files?
Thanks in advance for any help
Greetings
did u hard reset it after Flashing
the NO,YES,YES Way
Yes, I did this.
I also checked the camera BEFORE applying my Sprite-Backup
and it worked there.
Unfortunately I did not check the filename of the camera app
or saved it.
It is a bit strange since I dont know exactly how sprite backup
applies its backup...
Also I dont want to redo the complete flashing process since
my sprite backup is not up to date right now and my pc for
syncing is at my workplace...
So my Idea was to just "reinstall" the camera app or just
copy the files to the pocketpc to get it working again.
The problem is your backup..u say that u made the backup from Wm5 and restored it to WM6....Even windows has some limitations...WM5 Is a lot different then Wm6.U cant run WM5 Backup on WM6..my advise is that u hard reset it and then see if its working
I know that sprite backup causes the problem.
but I use some apps (financial and business organization)
that I dont know how they store their data on the pocketpc
and they dont sync anymore with vista and new windows
mobile center.
Currently spritebackup is the only way I get them to work again
on WM6 ;-) so I need to apply it.
Since I dont have any other problems right now beside the
camera I am pretty happy with WM6 on my "old" device.
I dont need camera very often but every now and then it
comes in quite handy.
I guess I wait till i come back to my workplace next year,
make a current sprite backup then reinstall WM6, save camera app,
apply sprite backup, apply camera app ...
and see if it is working.
Hi, tschombe
go 2
windows\start Menu\Programs\camera.lnk
the shortcut should read
:MSCAMERA?shellres.dll,-8263
then soft reset
first copy the shortcut from ur ppc to pc and drag it on a notepad..their u will see what hesham wroted..if it doesent match..fix it..and overright the shortcut by copying it back
sorry, I was on vacation for a while.
I tried the above solution, there was NO shortcut, so I created
a new one with notepad and copied it to my ppc
Now I have a shortcut that opens FileExplorer on the root folder,
when I tab the shortcut?
Hello all,
I have a TyTN II, bought in Switzerland, with a Swiss/French ROM.
Yesturday I had the brilliant idea to upgrade to WM6.1. Bad idea.
Before doing so, I made a full backup using Sprite Backup 5.1, thinking that I would get the best out of WM6.1 with all my current data.
The upgrade to WM6.1 went perfect. When I switched it back on, everything was OK. So I decided to perform a restore using the Sprite software, to get back all my data. During the process I recieve a warning message telling me that the the phone and operating system are not the same as on the backup...oups! I decide to ignore the message and press continue. Sprite does his thing, and the phone restarts. Only problem, it won't go past the HTC welcome logo...
I hard reset it. Start looking around on forums, and for some reason that today I can0t remember, I waste 25$ on the Sprite Backup 6.2 software. I try, but nothing works.
I write an email to Sprite explaining my problem, and here is the answer I get:
Hi guys,
I just bought your newest Sprite Backup product hoping that this would help, but it doesn't look so.
My issue is the following:
I have a HTC TyTN II that was running under WM 6.0 until now. Today I decided to upgrade to the WM 6.1 version. Prior to doing so I made a backup using the Sprite Backup software provided with my phone (on a HTC CD).
The backup went perfect. So I did the WM upgrade, and my phone configured perfect. I tried to restore the information from the backup to my phone. I first received a warning message telling me that this wasn't the phone or the WM version that I was using to create the backup. I thought that I should anyways have a try.
My phone performed the restore, but then wouldn't work. Only the HTC logo appeared and then it froze. Looking at some forums, I saw that a Hard Reset of the phone was advised, so I did it.
After this, still looking around forums i saw that people were talking about the fact that the new Sprite Backup software has this feature about retro compatibility with previous ROM versions. I thought that this would be the solution.
I bought the software and I'm desperately trying to restore the information. The only thing I get is the following error message:
"The selected backup file was created using a different version of Sprite Backup (5.1.0, Build 1449) and is incompatible with your current version (6.2.2, Build 2280)."
Guys, any help will be greatly appreciated, I had some important information on this backup and I would be extremely grateful if you could help me out to solve my problem.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Ostap
Tama McCallum 23/07/2008 1:30:38 p.m.
Dear Ostap,
Thank you for contacting Sprite Software. Unfortunately Sprite Backup itself is not backwards compatible, so to restore your 5.1 backup file, you need to use Sprite Backup 5.1.
To restore please follow these steps;
a) Hard reset your device
b) Place the attached .CAB file onto your device
c) Open the .CAB file using File Explorer
d) Open Sprite Backup
e) Go into Options> Switch to Advanced Mode
f) Go into Options> Restore Options and select Enable Device Upgrade mode
g) Go back to the main menu and choose your desired backup file to be restored
h) Continue with the restoration ignoring any prompts that may arise
If you encounter any errors, please send me the resulting BackupLog.txt file created in the \Temp\Log folder on your device.
Best regards,
Tama McCallum
Sprite Software
Unfortunatly her suggestion does not work.
So I start going around the web again, and I find this site, that seems the most efficient and proffesional. I really hope that you will be able to help me out.
Just to finish, and to keep focus, what I really need is ONLY the contact information from my backup/old ROM. Is there a way to extract this information from the file on my PC, or revert back to my old ROM and be sure that the restore will work?
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Ostap
Look into Flashing from your SD card, and then see if you can find the 6.0 rom is the kaiser wiki. (you should be able to get to all of this through the links in my signature. If you can get back to 6.0 and use the backup I would then try syncing with outlook to backup your contact info. Then flash back to 6.1, sync again and then enjoy 6.1.
Edit: first, hard reset.
Then try this (extracted from the Sprite Backup 6.2.2. helpfile):
"Upgrade Mode
Sprite Backup uses different Restore modes depending on the change in device or Operating System.
To set Upgrade Mode Options follow the instructions below:
From the Sprite Backup main screen, select 'Options'.
From the 'Options' screen, select 'Restore'.
From the 'Restore Options' screen, select 'Upgrade'.
Enable/Disable the settings you require.
Press 'OK' to save the settings or 'Cancel' from the menu.
The 'Help' menu item displays this Help file.
Personal Data: Use this option to restore your personal data across different devices or ROM versions. This option will exclude everything except ‘My Documents’ contacts / calendars / tasks / call logs."
When I upgraded (also with a Swiss/French HTC ROM), I could backup all my personal data and then had to manually update my settings and reinstall my programs.
I hope this helps, good luck.

Sounded great, but unfortunatly nothing happened... I've tried this for a few times already.
ChumleyEX:
The problem is that I don't synchronize with Outlook. I use Outlook with my business phone, so the only place I had my contacts was the HTC and now the Backup I can't use.
As a last resort I will indeed follow your instructions about flashing and putting a 6.0 ROM and trying to restore from there.
Before we get there, do you guys have any other ideas?
Thanks!
The contacts are stored in pim.vol located in the root of your device. Try to either restore that file or extract it on your computer and copy it to your phone (if your phone is still stuck at the HTC logo you'll have to hard reset first, of course).
If WM won't let you overwrite your old pim.vol, try this trick (quoted from another post):
try to delete poutlook.lnk from the windows\startup folder
softreset
connect pda to your pc
rename pim.vol to pim2.vol
restore your pim.vol
immediately perform a soft reset
Click to collapse
This could work, provided the data layout of pim.vol hasn't changed in WM6.1.
Edit: You could also try to restore the personal data and then do as the Sprite lady told you, send her the log file. Perhaps they can work it out.
I had a similar problem to the OP. Turned out I'd restored the old Windows folder which of course doesn't work as it's a new version of Windows that came wit the new ROM image. So theanswer was to go reflash the new ROM, restart the restore, check that everything is checked to be restored except the Windows folder. It worked....
pudifoot:
GREAT!!! It worked, just the way the other post describes! It's perfect!
Thank you soooo much to all of you!
Take care.
Ostap
I'm glad it worked out for you!
For future backup and restore of your personal data you might want to check out PIM Backup.
Can't Recover PIM.VOL after hard reset !
Hi ... I have a similar problem.
I hard reset my phone and I saved PIM.VOL, now I'm trying to copy it over, successfuly, but after a soft reset the file reverts to it's new values ... (from a 5mb backup file to a 300kb blank file)
I don't know what to do ... tried safe more, total commander, waiting 60 seconds before reset, resetting imedietly after copy, SPB Backup (restore works but no contacts)
PLEASE HELP !!!
-----
Okay ! found what the problem was !, I installed hebrew support before restoring the contacts, it must have changed the format.
Thanks everybody, love this forum !
-----
Dammit ! I restored the contacts first, then installed the hebrew support and guess what, it all went to hell in a hand basket.
After the hebrew gets installed all the contacts and apointments just disapear !
Well ... what now ? heh ...
I have the same problem as the poster of this thread! But I cant get it to hard reset
I can't get a reset to work. I have nothing vital on the phone. Everything is backed up on SD. I just need a hard reset so I can load everything back manually. My PC doesn't even recognize through usb! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not sure how to flash from SD but I already have the link to origonal rom saved to PC. Guess I could look into that, but a hard reset would be TONS easier!

I know this doesn't help much, but this is why you need to have a backup of the back - making sure it works. Even when you switch from a new rom, more likely you will have to rebuild it from scratch.. (Trust me, I know). It is a pain but in the long run once the rom is built to your prefence, sycing with exchange it a breese and no data is lost.
Your best bet is to take your device into the dealer, tech shop and have them revert back to the rom you were using.
It is always important to write this stuff down ahead of time before flashing..
Good Luck/

Ok so this morning I go to backup my phone since I haven't done it in 4 months. I open up the Sprite Backup program and set it to back up the phone. It restarts the phone (as usual) and begins the backup process on startup. Then, when it finishes, it restarts again but it won't boot up. It goes to a white error screen that says something along the lines of "A program with an unsigned cab has been installed" or something like that and says to "press the SEND button to reset the phone or any other button to cancel. This operation will delete all of your personal data and reset the phone to factory settings."
Uh-oh, I thought... So I hit another button because I don't want to lose all of my personal data. It stayed on the white AT&T screen with the R, G, and D numbers on the bottom right corner.
After resetting and taking out the battery and resetting again, nothing changed. So I popped the microSD card into my computer to see if SpriteBackup actually finished backing up the system. Hey! It was there, about 62MB in size and it was a whole file (no corruption), with today's date and the time that I backed it up. So I said, alright, let me just turn on the phone, press the SEND button to reset it, and then just restore the Backup file with SpriteBackup. I did it and it restored it, but after rebooting, the initial configuration screen for the phone kicks in again (the one that comes up when you first buy the phone) and it reinstalls the "stock" programs and settings.
Almost everything is back to normal, except:
I'm missing some contacts that I've added within the past 3 months.
I'm missing some text/MMS messages since May 19th...
In the "Remove Programs" windows, there are only 5 programs installed, the ones that come stock with the phone.
Does anyone know a solution? Or if there's a way to transfer my contacts/messages out of the SpriteBackup file to my computer, i might as well just wipe my phone clean, install an updated rom, and start from scratch.
All I need are all my contacts and my messages. Does anyone know where they are located?
Thanks in advance..
I have my backups on another PC so I can't give you step by step indications looking at the screen. If your backup was successful, I see two options:
1) on device: open Sprite Backup, select restore, on the backup selection screen check the folders you want to restore ("email", "personal databases" …) and restore
2) on PC with full Sprite Backup version: copy the backup file to the PC, open it on the PC with Sprite Explorer, select the folders/files to restore (I think contacts/appointments/tasks are under "Database/pim.vol" and text/MMS maybe under a "mail" folder). Good luck.

Out of the box, Sprite Bkup LOOP!
Hello,
First time user for Sprite Backup!
I tried to do a "Sprite Backup" to a 2 GB miniSD card, with "600 MB" FREE space on card, from ATT WM 6.1 on Kaiser loaded from "factory"" ROM and Radio.....loaded with Sprite Backup. Not an added software.
When asked to confirm placement of backup to SD card and Sprite will restart / reboot , YES OR NO I ticked YES.... Kaiser turned off.. Back on to ATT white splash screen ...Than....Windows Mobile Splash Screen (the GREEN one for WM6.1) . . . than shuts it off again.... turned back on ATT Splash screen than WM Green Screen... than shut off again....than on and off and off and on. I have to remove the battery to stop the LOOP!
SO now I can NOT get to WM, nor connect with ActiveSinc, nor do an Update, nor re-flash to original ROM from miniSD, nor work with Mitty.exe...
I either have the "Loop de Loop" or I can Camera plus ON/ off to Tri-screen with USB on screen.... but no re-flash ECT.....
I had a FULL battery with charger plugged in charging the Kaiser, so there was NO power interruption or power loss. And I did not have any time to interrupt the Sprite Backup.
Please HELP me restore my Kaiser, I am is desperate need of this for work....
PS I can not access the Kaiser to SEE what the Sprite Backup version it is in the ATT Ce 05.5.2.1620 (Build 18.125.0.4.2)
Rom 1.57.502.2 (with ATT Factory Upgrade to 6.1....
ALL FACTORY ATT ROM and Radio installed.
I didn't take Note of the Sprite version BEFORE the "Loop de Loop" happened.. Sorry I don't know the factory installed version?
FIXED!
Somehow with KAISERUNLOCKER dot exe ? But the prgm only made 2 out of the 3 steps so I didn't think it worked .... UNTIL....
I could Hard reset than run Att/Cingluar WWE updated ROM and everything worked. HOOOO RAH!
Sprite support didn't reply even after 5 DAYS!
Not even a "sorry to hear you are having problems"... ETC
So I wouldn't buy from them...... Buy and use at your own risk!
Hope that HELPS someone!
Later.....
I got the O2 Xda IIs Model PH20B and now upgraded to ROM Version 6.50.28WWE. Radio Version 1.12.00, Protocol Version 1337.42. The CPU is PXA263 wuth 400 MHZ and 112MB RAM. Flash Chip type 28F128K3
The office mobile doesn't work anymore, the things that haven't worked before (like PSSHutXp, TomTom etc) don't work. It can't be connected to any computer not by Active Sync on Windows 2k or XP, and not with Windows Mobile on Vista. I have a lot of icons duplicated on the desktop with (1) behind the name aka Calendar and Calendar (1) and can't get rid of them.... what can I do? Can any one help me please? I am ready to throw that thing out of the window!
Thanks a lot in advance
.
I suggest you to do a hard reset...
Have you dit it when you was upgrading?
Because after upgrade you have to do it, to avoid problems with some pieces of applications , that have been left in your memory...
thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Yes I did hard reset it, it won't even use the Extrom on the SDCard to give me office or anything, even it said the cabs are installed. Stupid thing!
I now went back to the original O2 crap old ROM and search for 6.1 but I can't seem to find one that works, the ones I found on here don't install right away but go through syncing, which mine won't so it keeps saying the device doesn't respond lol. I think I seriously give up soon and just throw it out I had enough, and I am good with computers etc usually, I build them and all, just I never had a PDA before.
Anyone know something?
if it didn't use the extrom from the sd card you probably still have the internal extrom in the device and forgot to format and resize it before you first upgraded to wm5 and above. what you need to do to get rid of all that old crap is:
1. downgrade to your shipped rom, remember, now that your device is WWE, you need to use MAupgradeut_noID and botloader to avoid country id and device id errors.
2. download xda-unlocker.cab and repartDOC.exe and put them on an sd card. install the unlocker.
3. run the unlocker by going to the start menu, EXTROM tools, click "Unhide" then "Unlock"
4. run repartDOC and set the size to 128kb
5. run the unlocker again by going to the start menu, EXTROM tools, this time click "Lock" then "Hide"
6. now your device does not have the internal extrom anymore, meaning you have 16MB more storage capacity and you can use extroms coming from the sd card.
7. then flash back the new rom, say wm6.1, again using the MAupgradeut_noID and bootloader mode.
8. when done, perform a hard reset, notice that the procedure for hard resetting changed, (press reset+power+record+camera)
9. in the menu appearing, the options ARE set:
Enable KITL: YES
clean registry hive: NO
format storage: NO
using the camera and record button, flip all the settings, so it says:
Enable Kitl: NO
clean registry hive: YES
format storage YES
10. confirm with the mail button, your screen turns white, and after some time, the device boots and installs the extrom from the sd card.
that is the procedure to go through, when first upgrading to wm5 and above and since your device made special problems, my wildest guess would be, that you forgot to resize the extrom, which is the reason the sd card's extrom was not loaded. plus you probably performed no hard reset or did it wrong, which is why the device was filled with garbage even after flashing a new rom.
if that manual was to fast, or you didn't get any of the things above, there is a wizard (assistant, not the device) in the wiki, to guide through the upgrade process, there you will also find the download links for the mentioned unlocker and repartdoc:

that link is already one step into the problem and starts with the extrom resize, assuming that you flash your shipped rom first, and need no help doing that.
remember: you cannot resize your extrom from wm5 and above, for your device to run properly, you need to go back to wm2003 first.
have fun and good luck with that
Thank you very much Chef Tony. I was willing to put it up for sale but I will try what you suggested once again, even I am sure I ran through it all and did it, but it doesn't hurt to try it again. If I am still too stupid to use the Blue Angel, or still don't get along with it, I can always sell it afterwards.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
UPDATE:
I have done it on my XP computer this time, not Vista, and it worked. The other thing I did wrong, no laugh at me if you want LOL, but I am a novice and have my blonde moments , and never did this before, I unrared ALL the files in the EXTROM Folder... this time I only unrared the main folder and put them all on the card as they were inside that unpacked EXTROM Folder. Works like a charm now and the programs are installed and I can use it... saves me a LOT of money as I was ready to sell everything I have to sell to get the iphone, now thanks to you I can use the XDA IIs as it should work.
I owe you one! VIELEN LIEBEN DANK FUER DEINE HILFE.
