anyone tried to remove the t-mobile and T logo from the mda vario cover? (see pic)
I tried to remove the --MDA .T..Mobile.-- with a suger cube but that didn't work, seems they have made their paint better on these newer phones
Also i want to remove the T on the the right hand top..
Would be great if someone can post their info if they done it

Nice To-day Screen what you got running there !!!
BTW i tried the sugar cube too !!!
I used perspex polish and along with a pencil eraser it removed all the logos without marking. But I don't know much about the polish, its in a plain bottle.
Mine Qtek sign went off by itself within first week...
Scrub harder...
They are better painted, but if you scrub hard eneough, they'll come off... I had a Orange logo, but not for long...
But i guess the t-zones logo on the internet button wo'nt work...
a lot of my Imate logo rubbed off the first week - you can use a stanley knife blade (not in the knife - just the blade) and that got the rest off without a scratch to the facia.
It does work with a suger cube, I can confirm.
I just tried it yesterday on my T Mobile MDA Vario (NL).
It takes a lot of time and patience but it can be done without scratches or marks with a sugar cube.
Took me 1 hour for only the right t-mobile logo, but its gone
Nice today screen! What's that app you have running on the top? The icons which show the batt status and other stuff beside the start button?
use a coin, gets it off i no time and no scratches either
rgs
Jim
Jepp, sugarcubes work, see attached image taken from my O2 XDA Mini S after I scrubed this ugly branding away. NO scratches on the surface but it took about 10 minutes and two cubes. You need to scrub with more force than when unbranding a magician.
I just succeeded in removing all 4 logo's on my (Dutch) MDA Vario.
(also I removed the mail logo, left upperside)
I know have a complete logo free HTC Wizard device!!
All done by the sugar cube.
It works great, but you have to do some pressure on the scrubbing
@Panja
Could you please upload an image of the totally unbranded Wizard? I am thinking of removing the Mail and IE icons as well but I would like to know first how it would look like.
TIA
Not the best picture but I'm not a good photographer...
I hope it is good enough for you
Thanks Mate!
I now have one de-badged T mobile Vario thanks to a 1p piece.

This doesn't scratch the aluminium ? What's the technique, I have a friends to do and can't find my perspex polish I used on mine.
Nope just did it now. I did not Scratch the case took about 10 mins to do all 4 areas of text.
Just be careful, you get a feeling for when you are taking the paint off as it feels smooth.

Ooh, that was easy! I just did it, too, with a coin. The metal has a 'grain' to it, where it's brushed vertically. I suggest you scrape in line with that, rather that across it.
yep, 1p piece, 5 mins, no scratches..........nice one!

My own screen has some scuffs and scratches, and i was looking for a new one. Now i know because of my old job that having it replaced at a repair-center (i worked at one) that will cost me something like 160 euro's.
But now i found a company (www.iiparts.com) on internet that sells the "samsung LTP280QV" displays for $75 a piece (for minimum of 5 pieces) and thats a good price i think.
These displays are used in the wizard and the magician ( :!: but Toppoly TD028STEB1 is also used, and they are not interchangeable :!: )
Maybe if there is enough interest for those displays we could buy some together (saves a lot of postage costs  )?
It is not my goal to make money out of this, but to all save money.
So if anyone who is seriously interested could PM me, then i'll see if its worth it.
Goodluck.

That's not what he is asking guys.
There are a lot of users who won't use protectors because of disadvantages with it.
So if anyone is interested in a new display and don’t mind to do some DIY then please add your thread.

thnks drifter, thats what i want to say. And as i saw on the forum, there are a lot of people who dropped their device and have a broken LCD. For them it's also a lot cheaper, and DIY doesn't matter for them because their warranty is already voided because of dropping it.
.....
I already have sent my 9100 to the repair center....
If they will ask me a lot, I will contact you soon.
Today I got back my PDA....
I have disassembled it to check the type of the screen but it is a "Toppoly TD028STEB1"
Do someone know where to buy this kind of screen?

I found a very good quotation in the www.lcd315.com or www.lcd315.net.
Could someone know this e-shop ?

BUMP!
Hallo?!?!?
anyone?
is there anybody out there?
My question is there a screen which has decent sensitivity. I have had two T-Mobile MDAs and both are pretty poor when it comes to screen tap sensitivity. Also I have a continuous problem with alignment. After about a week I have to carry out a hard reset. Example if I am searching in my contacts database and use the scroll bar on the right side of the screen instead of scrolling the contact the stylus is adjacent to is selected. I have tried screen recalibration and that does not correct the issue. The only resolution is to clear storage and that is getting very aggrivating. Any suggestions. I am running Mr. Clean rev 2.4a. Am I looking at a software glitch or a bad screen... My guess is a substandard screen.
Bump again....
I still need to get the screen!!!!!!
Do you know if there's an easy way to determine which screen is installed without having to disassemble the phone? My Wizard100 (Cing2125) is fairly new and I just want to avoid disassembly unless it is really, really, really needed...
Sorry but I have no idea how to get that info without "explode" the PDA.
It will help to keep the guarantee as valid
Taking the Magician and Wizard apart
Hi,
How easy is it to take the magician and wizard apart?
...and put back together
I've looked on the net for hours and not found any instructions. On this site I have seen people talk of repairing their phones but no guides or indication of how easy/hard it is
thanks,
Graham.
OK, I found the service manual for the wizard at:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Docs_Tutorials/Wizard_Service_Manual.pdf
but what about the Magician?
thanks,
Graham.
I'm waiting for spare parts from china....
LCD , cover house, batteries -thin&thik,

I'm 95% happy with it, although the paint has a couple of chips where I put it back together when it wasn't 100% hard and/or had not adhered to the surface. I didn't sand it down first, which may turn out to be a mistake. If the paint starts to chip I will sand it down and re-apply it. I used Plasti-kote Satin Black (2 coats) then Clear Acrylic (2 coats), which is supposed to dry in 30-40 minutes.
All in all the paint worked pretty well - it came out pretty smooth, and the paint remained reasonably thin.
Nice work.
I can see that you had very sterile painting conditions. I once painted my amiga500 outside and it got all dusty.
I've never understood someone wanting to do something like this, but wow, after seeing how yours turned out, that is Really nice! I really like how it looks (but not sure I'm ready to pull mine apart to do that)
Great job!
I have to say that look really nice...I want to do something like that...
Damn dog. That's pretty sic. I like it. Impressive!
Looks damn good! I don't think I have the cajones to do something like this though. Great job.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys.
I understand (and promote!) being reticent about taking your beloved Wizard apart. I've damaged it in a few ways because of it. Thank god I got the Wizard reasonably cheaply so it's not so painful. (I might put together a horror stories post. )
I can provide a day #2 upload that the paint is holding up in an ok fashion. There's may be 5-6 tiny specks where the paint has come off, so I'm likely to hold out and see how it holds out over the next week.
: \
sorry bro but I am not a fan of the look of the qtek/mda/xda models...but this makes them look a lot better and not as feminie, cheers
Nice black wizard. We have a white and a black The back panel's paint job is better than I've expected, with all the grooves, which may cause problems if thick layer of paint are applied.
BTW, I think you ought to have your stylus's "butt" painted as well
Very nice!
I've been wanting to fins a spare 8125 case to try and paint black. In case I mess it up, it would be just a spare so I wouldn't have to use it, haha
Looks good though!

You can find a service manual on the net for it. Search for 'prodigy service manual'. You will need a couple of tiny screwdrivers:
00pt philips (cross)
T5x50 torx (6 star)

If you do I'd be interested to hear your experience with it. I asked my father about it (retired auto/car painter) and he suggested using scotch bright for the sanding. I've yet to try it though..
is there anywhere where i could find a through tutorial on how to do this?? it looks awesome!
Looks very nice
I have an extra and am thinking about painting it. I used to build model cars when I was younger, and we would always use a very fine sandpaper. I don't remember the grit on it. It was a silicon carbide or aluminum oxide. Those papers both work great for plastic. I may give it a shot. If I do I will post the pics.
Peace,
Hmmm Waiting for the tuto!
Can someone make one?
How is the paint job holding up? I'd like to do this to mine, but I'm waiting to see if I need to sand it down first.
That's gorgeous. Very inspiring. I might have to hit up some painter friends of mine.
Hey its gorgeous but can you write a guide how to do that. THNX.
Has anyone try to remove the ugly AY&T Logo from Tilt? I want to see if it can just be scraped off without leaving a mark. I am not brave enough to try yet. Thought I would give it a try here.
Thanks.
Sugar cubes. Works wonders. I've used them on an Apache.
Re: Removing AT&T Logo
I've seen cheap skin packages for $3-$5 US for 8925 on E-bay that will cover the AT&T logo.
I too am wondering about this. The thought I had was if the sugar would damage the dark patina on the metal.
anyone do this yet?
as ay&t is not sending me checks to rep there logo I would like it off my phone lol
I'm also interested in this. Let me know if you guys get it off.

Supposedly you can remove the logo by moving a sugar cube back and forth across it. The sugar is supposed to be hard enough to remove it but soft enough to not scratch the metal.

We are talking about the logo that is physically on the top of the Tilt.
I never tried this, so I don't know if it works...
but shouldn't nail polish remover do the job? if not similar chemical products strong enough to wipe the paint but not strong enough to corrode the metal.

I tried alcohol and lacquer thinner just now...didn't cut it or damage anything.

I am concerned about scratching the dark patina over the metal.

Anyone have any sugggestions on how to remove the at&t emblem from the top right corner without marring the finish?
sugar cube or grains. use search.
DO NOT USE SUGAR, you WILL mar the finish.
Use "Goo-Off" or Nail Polish remover. DO NOT LET IT SIT on the surface. Apply a small amount to a Q-tip and rub in the direction of the grain. (top to bottom on a tilt) So it gently and do NOT over soak the Q-Tip. Go over several times lightly. You want to have several light layered rubs instead of a few heavy ones.
That should do it...

Wrong. This will NOT even phase the att logo. As far as I know, there is no way to remove it without ruining the finish under it. My first tilt (i was returning it anyway for an exchange) I even took an exacto knife to the logo and removed part of one letter to find its kinda etched into the finish under it. Until I see a picture of someones that sucessfully removed it (with no other visible damage under it) in a post here, I wont believe its possible to do.
Yep, I tried all kinds of sugar cubes (cane sugar, crystal sugar, rock sugar) and also nail polish, 100% acetone professional studio strength -- didn't do anything.
Anybody have any bright ideas?
I used thermite to remove the logo and it works great.
Just a side note if you leave it on to long it will eat clear through your phone
This freaking logo is ment to stay for life

I dunno if we mean the same thermite, but the thermite I know becomes very hot if you ignite it! Once it's lit it can evaporate liquid nitrogen (brainiacs)Though you'll need quite some firepower to light it...
Thermite will burn through an engine block. Obviously he's being flipant.

A case of Humble Pie me thinks!!
I stand corrected.
Phoned yesterday to T-Mobile Germany. Release should "KW 21".
Costs should be around ~150EUR with "Max Relax M Friends".
Just some infos from the guy on Hotline, nothing official.
Got mine today in the Netherlands.
Pictures are correct.
Coming from a HTC P3300 (Artemis) it is a lot faster
And the place for the micro-sd card is a lot better. Don't have to remove the battery and SIM anymore

I've got mine now for 2 weeks already and I must say: "Perfect Phone"
Only major differance is the T-Mobile TF3D home screen.
From the outside I think the T-Mobile version is way better than the standard HTC version. But hey, everybody has a differant tast, luckelly
Got my MDA compact V (NLD) yesterday.
Really disliked the logo beneath the screen, so I removed the plastic part, sanded the clearcoat and logo from the part (900 grain sandpaper) and airbrushed it again with clearcoat, much better!
(BTW there are 2 screws beneath the logo-part in case you want to dismantle yours, the logo-part is only stuck with double sided tape).
Also the T-Mobile branded ROM is quite ugly, luckily I could use a goldcard* to flash it to 1.40.707.1 WWE, much and much better!!
No more pink splash-screens, and no skinny click.
(*goldcard was generated with QMAT)
Just got a call from T-Mobile UK asking me to upgrade - basically wanting to keep my custom. They offered me a new phone or a tariff reduction by £15.
I enquired about the MDA Compact V and they said it had just come in last night but they only had 100 and all of those had sold out already. They are getting another shipment tomorrow so I should have it by Saturday or Monday.
I am hanging on to my 12 month contract for dear life. A new phone every 12 months for free on a £35 contract. Not to shabby I guess. Hopefully my next upgrade should coincide with tegra/snapdragon phones with windows mobile 7. Please MS don't delay any further.
I almost soiled my underoos when I saw this phone. Looks a lot nicer than the original htc version. too bad for the t-mobile logo splattered on it.
Hello,
I got the T-Mobile MDA Compact V (Dutch) for a week now. Can anybody tell me how to activate the Transcriber-software?
Or do I have to do edit the registry for this to show this option?
