Hi people,
I've been tryin hard to get 3rd party apps to do a Wi-fi scan in my area but none of them even detect the network card.
SocketCom WiFi Companion: Officially does not support the XDA
NetBox: Says no network card found
Retina Wifi: Says no network card found.
Any idea how to get these to work? The Wifi Manager works fine and shows "Scanning network..." when I switch it on.
Thanks,

WiFi Companion works fine on my 2i, albeit version 2.5A. The latest version failed to run at all!
If it's just the scan functions you are after, try WiFiFoFum ... http://www.aspecto-software.com/WiFiFoFum/

So I have somewhat of a strange issue with my wi-fi on my captivate. At home, my WiFi works great, no issuses. But when I go to my college, I can scan and connect to the WiFi spots but it still acts like I'm not connected. No data apps work at all, everything 'Fails to connect'
Using Wifi Analyzer, I see that its a strong connection. Even tried connecting to different channels, walking around trying different hot spots.. still no difference.
Why would my phone do that? Is there different kinds of WiFi networks phones cant connect to? But like i said, it see's and connects to the hot-spots there, just acts likes theres no data..

I had this issue last night when I was at a Hilton. IT saw the connection and connected but no data transfer. Found that when I connected to my laptop it redirected me to a page to enter the pswrd. So when I connected my phone again I loaded up the page from the laptop and entered the code. then it worked. Not sure if it helps
When you connect to the open wifi network simply open your browser and you should find instructions for that establishments network.

I started having a similar issue. I connect and get no data connection anytime I'm on wifi. It's happening on stock 2.1 and all 2.2 roms. After about two weeks of this, I called and am getting a warranty repair. I've had this phone since early august and never had any wifi problems.

When you connect to the connection that is not giving data, open your browser. Some places instead of useing a pin code use a webpage where you input the code.

Hi.
Is there any way for our android device to automatically start using mobile data even if its connected to a WIFI network, like it does in Iphone and Blackberry.
There are times you go to a certain location and having used their wifi before, your phone automatically connects to it only to find out that no data is transmitting and you can sit there for hours not realizing your phone is disconnected from the internet whereby, in BB or iphone, the phone just switches over to mobile data and keeps you online.
Most apps available just toggle wifi on and off but none I've seen can keep WIFI connected and still use mobile data.
Any help will be appreciated
There is an option, that the phone only connects to wifi if there is a good connection (under wlan --> advanced )
Hope this helps.
Same problem (but inverse)
Hi everybody,
I'm facing the same problem, just inverse: when the phone "considers" the wifi signal "too weak", it automatically switches to mobile data (even if the latter are disabled), the result is the mobile frequently drop the connection in some places at home where the signal is a little less intense.
In my phone, the option mentioned by Marc199 doesn't exist (or isn't displayed)...
What can I do?
Is there a way to access "hidden" settings like the one mentioned?
Thanks for your answers!

Well, you can always use the quick settings to turn off the mobile data.

Well, there might be a chance that HTC removed (or never implemented) this feature. I'm using a GPE ROM.
If you mean the developer options, they won't be any use to you.
BestSignal Wifi-->Mobile Data App
I just installed BESTSIGNAL on my **HTC ONE M7**from the developer of the same name (BestSignal).
It's the paid version but only AUD1.99 and it works well, simple yet highly functional GUI. However it was not compatible on my Google Nexus 7 (2012) nor my ASUS Transformer TF700T so be sure to check your device compatibility.
As a XDA newbie I'm not allowed to include active HTML links so the App URL extension is: details?id=com.eightythirty.bestsignal and the Dev's is: developer?id=BestSignal
I searched, but couldn't find tips for what needs to be removed from a CM11 build to make a phone WiFi-only.
I have an old HTC Vivid I want to use as a datalogging device in my race car. It doesn't have a SIM and will never be on a 3G/4G network again. I do, however, want to be able to turn-on the WiFi hotspot feature so that I can transfer files to/from the phone using my laptop without having to plug it in; or have a WiFi router present.
I tried JellyBelly's script, but I keep getting a phone.apk FC. If I turn on airplane mode, the FC's stop. So, then I turned on WiFi. But, with WiFi turned on in airplane mode, the hotspot feature is grayed out.
So, I'd like to make a custom CM11 build for WiFi only. Is it possible? Any pointers to a how-to thread?
I suspect that maybe the Hotspot feature only works with a cellular network connection. I hope not...

To make it WiFi only, go to Settings and turn off the data and turn on WiFi
To connect your phone and computer, the best way I have found is WiFi File Explorer Pro. It is not free, but the free version limits the transfers.
This will work on any smartphone.

That's actually what I'm using. But, that only works if there's an existing WiFi network to connect to. I also want the phone to host a WiFi hotspot/network.

Hello,
first of all, my English isn't that good, but I hope you understand it well enough.
I own a OnePlus 3T and want to run wlan and mobile data at the same time,
but every time when the OP3T connect to a wlan the mobile data stops working.
I know there is a developer option for wlan and mobile data, but it didn't work for me.
Nothing changes. Even with a reboot, the mobile data still automatically switched off as soon as a wlan connection is established.
Why I need both running on the same time:
I've got an OBD Dongle for realtime information from my car (because my car dies slowly and I want to know what is going on with this "lovely piece of something")
My OP3T connects via wlan with the device, which means that mobile data is automatically deactivated, which also means that I have no connection to the internet.
Has anyone of you a solution for me?
I must confess, that problem is quite depressing for me.
If you can't understand what i'm saying or have trouble to understand, then just tell me and I try to rewrite my problem (somehow i guess)

Yeah, I know. That is what it does.
But I need wifi and mobile data simultaneously.
Hi anyone have experience with connecting the n8 to this camera? Using the sony memories software it tries to connect but disconnects immediately. Any ideas folks.
I have an A5000 but i believe the method should be same.
When using wifi transfer i set it to wifi direct rather than through a router/access point (never had any success with using wifi router), when connecting directly to the camera the phone will complain about no internet access, make sure you pull the drop down and select stay connected anyways (otherwise the note may drop the connection so i can reconnect to your router that does have internet connection)
Found the solution I had to disable mobile data. Only found this out this by checking whether it worked on my tab s3 and it did so was a matter of deduction. Thx
