All,
I have a MDAIII and I would like to back up my current ROM.
I have followed the steps outlined here
http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=151&PN=1
to extracting the rom using NTRW.exe version 2.
Now when I try to restore the ROM I use ‘ntrw.exe write myrom.nb1 h:’ and put the sd card back into the phone and put it into bootloader mode but the phone does not boot from the SD Card. I have tried a 256mb and 1gb sd card but the phone does not display a confirmation to upgrade - can anyone help?
Thanks
Msuk
Hallo,
i cooked many ROMs and every time i try to flash using SD Card (8GB), but without any sucess, it does not find any ROM to flash!
I renamed the cooked ROM to blacimg.nbh (also tried blackimg.nbh), copy to SD Card, Rebo0t into Bootloader mode (Power + Volume Down), it reboots and search for ROM then change to serial (usb)
I used search but no answer found
What am i doing wrong?

Which file did you rename to blacimg.nbh (that's correct and not blackimg.nbh)? Did you save it to the root of the sd card as suggested (although mine is in a folder and this also works)? Because the steps you are describing are correct and should work (work like that for me). The only thing I can think is that there is possibly something wrong with the file you are using. Is it one of your own cooked roms?

Yes, i cook my own clean ROMs, the ruu_signned.nbh is renamed to blacimg.nbh and is directly copyed to the root of my SD Card
I do not know what is wrong!

faced the same prob long time ago with a old 4 Gb card...no matter what i've did was not able to flash. However I sugest to reformat your sd card (FAT 32 and not on your pc/laptop, do it with your phone) and then try again after formating, altough it may not help. to be sure that you are not doing wrong try another SD card if possible.
Another option to check your self is flashing with ActiveSync after formating.
Good Luck
p.s. It seems this is happening often if you used your SD card in another device
I'd a similar problem while flashing on my old P3300
To avoid the problem, I'm using a 1gb micro sd dedicate only to rom flashing but with a single partition of 256MB.
dunno if this could help u
cheers
I was having exactly same problem today when I tried to flash - mine's 8gb mini SD which came as a part of package from Orange, U.K.. I ended up using normal USB cable but I was wondering why it didn't work...

Fashing with some big SD >4gb could generate some issue. Use one small dedicated to that and format it first in Fat32.
Hi Carl, thanks for your advice - it actually worked like a charm. I didn't really thing 8gb would cause this problem. I used just a plain 2gb ScanDisk card, formatted in Fat 32 and put only blacimg.nbh following normal procedures - thank you very much again!
My 2 cents
I had a similar problem not long ago with my 8Gb Micro SD that came with the card. I'd re-formatted it via the PC and altered the default settings based on a thread I read on here which was supposed to speed up access to the card. If I remember correctly it was changing the default allocation size.
Long story short, reformatted back to default settings and I was able to flash again from SD. IMO it's moreso the format of the card, not so much it's size as I never had a problem with flashing from card before tweaking it's format settings.
SD Card
I always flash from my SD card.
My latest card is a 16Gb class4 SanDisk, and I must have flashed more than 50 times from this. I always put my blacimg.nbh file in the root of the card.
Size of the card is not important, it just have to be formated in FAT32.
There are several reports that some brands of card do not work very well with Windows Mobile.
One time I purchased a Kingston card that simply would not work.
I've been having issues with my phone for a while. Mostly the sdcard will occasionally just refuse to be detected and/or mount at all, even in recovery. I am running the danger spl and the corresponding radio. I usually run Cyanogen Mod.
Well my issue now is that my phone is wiped, no rom, and I cannot mount my SDcard to get a new rom loaded. How do I either:
A. Mount my sdcard (or make it be detected or whatever)?
B. Use adb (which I just installed and have no experience with) to flash a rom to my phone without the sdcard.
Do you have an SD card reader?
You need to get a card reader for your pc. download the ROM you want onto the root of the SD card. Put it back in your phone and boot into recovery (Power+home). Then install the ROM on your phone, and reboot.

It appears that you may have missed the fact that he is most likely unable to mount that sd card on his phone.
I'm just going to throw this out there so don't be mad.
Maybe just maybe you need a new sdcard?
If it's not the card then it's probably the phone.
I was hoping someone has a broken internal memory card (not hoping).. and has been successfully able to run firmware off an SD Card?
If so could you spare time guiding me how you managed to do so, and if you realy could just copy and paste the contents of your SD Card into a folder - so I may be able to test it on my phone to see if it turns on again.
It is currently in the boot loop. =\
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have a solution or other custom rom to flash through cwm ?

is sd card broken maybe?
Is then only solution to replace sd card?
When i put it back in the gts5570 i it says blank or not supported sd card.

use sdcard reader or another phone to check is it broken or is formattable.
