This is really annoying me. I always inadvertently press this button which opens the camera application and it takes ages to close and get back to what I wanted to do in the first place. Is the are a way to disable this button alone?
Thanks
Jahirul
Hi,
You can assign the camera button to another application or assign to no applications through Settings -> Buttons on the PPC.
cheers,
The other thing you can do is in file explorer, go to windows\startup and delete camera_detect (or whatever it's called), this will stop the button defaulting back to camera everytime you soft reset.
that was simple!
Thanks

Camera diasable
Thanks a lot for this pug - I've been searching high and low and hacking the life out of my pda to find a way to stop the camera button re-activating on soft-reset. Always try the obvious!
thanks pug, you method really good. The build-in camera is so ****ty anway. I want to disable it for ages.
@pug
I did that way, too, and finally I killed my camera, too...but if I wanted, could I simply rename it or change the extension in camera.exe.old, to be sure to recover it in a second time?

Hi,
One of the things i really find annoying about my phone setup is the fact that I keep on knocking the camera button and activating the camera by mistake. I don't use the camera that often (no guesses why) so I would prefer to assign the button to ALT-TAB or something that I would find a little more useful.
I have made the change in settings but it seems that my new button assignment only works until I perofrm a soft reset. Then the button reverts back to starting camera.
Is there any way of doing this so even after a soft reset my button assignments don't change?
Thanks in advance,
Charles
Go to Device\windows\Startup and delete cameradetect. Everytime you reset now the things you assign will keep.
Thanks Pug. You're the man!
I wondered the same thing, thanks Pug
Thanks Pug - same here
how to disable from rom?
Hi all
I sort of have the same problem with the camera. don't use it either. I would like to disable it from within the rom but i can't seem to find it.
The problem is that if you get a hard reset the detect camera is there again in the startup
anyone any suggestions? is it baked in the os rom?
thnx in advanced
It is Possible to remove the file using a script during a hard reset. All this does is delete the cameradetect shortcut, you still need to re-assign the button. This can only be done by cooking the ROM though. I will post the script as soon as I can.

Thnx PUG !!!!
Hey PUG
thnx for the info. Can't wait for the script (no hurry of course). I didn't know you could do scripting with a pda but of course it is a form of windows  .
Well thnx again and a Merry X-Mas to ya

Hi guys, I am having some little problems with my Xda2i as following.
1. I use button lock to stop using the camera button (as I always accidentally touch it then camera starts, many time I open camera without notice for long time till my battery almost gone!!) Every time I soft reset, it always turn to defalut mode.
2. Also the same happen with "today". I show some items such as Worldmate. When soft reset, it disappears (though I ticked to show it always)
3. Favorites network also the same, ticked it then changed after reset.
Could anybody please help me?.
Many many thanks in advance..
do what i have done removed the camera from my start up prgrams and allocated the button to none that way it can't activate
as for the others i'm not to sure ,i'm sure some1 else will be able to help
Sounds like somehow the registry has become read only. Have a look in the startup folder and see if there any programs in there that shouldn't be running. Also has this started after some program has been installed?
Hi Pug, checked my startup and found below program lists
-camera_detect
-checkautorun
-clear_notify
-IA_CID_start
-PHM Traylaunch
-PhotocontactPro
-Pocketnavy
-poutlook
-RunBT
-spb GPRS monitor
-STK
It seems like you doubt, it happens after program installation.
Any more advice?
Many many thanks
I don't doubt you at all, just trying to help you solve this.
PHM hasn't got a registry restore feature has it? If it has try disabling it. I don't use it so I don't know.
Don't know what that Pocket Navy is so can't comment on that.
If you delete Camera_Detect you can assign the camera button to something else if you want and the button assignment will survive a soft reset.
Sorry for my aweful english, Pug.
This problem wa before PHM installed, it should be ok (anyway I am not knowledgable to know if it has registry or not. I am too new hands)
Pocketnavy is "CloseAll" I like it more because it has window to see running programs and can select to close which one. THe most important is it free.
I will try to fix it as you recommend. Very appreciated your time to help.
Thanks again
Their seems to be a problem with the camera when you press the side button to record a video.
I click to record and everything goes fine then when I go to end the video my phone freezes and needs a soft-reset.
This also happens when trying to save a picture.
::::EDIT::::::
I found out how to fix it.
If anyone else is having this problem this is what I did to fix it on my Wing.
Install SKTools -- Use search to find it
Open up SKTools and go to "Tune Up"
Keep tabbing to the right until you reach buttons.
Click on Button 3 and on top press "..." and press File
Put the Directory to \Windows\Camera.exe press Actions then Done
Press done once again and it should work fine.
I guess it was a problem with the shortcut.
Hope this helps out anyone having the same problem.
I know i need to use the search button and i did. installed igo8 gps software and now i lost the camera button. I press the camera button and the gps software comes up. i looked into the "buttons setting" and it won't call up there to assign it back to camera. read somewhere to link the camera.exe from windows, but i can't figure out how to *.lnk a file. any help will be appreciated!!
I got the same problem, and also iGO8 ! So you narrowed it down to that causing the button to disappear? Hmmmm, by me the button does absolutely nothing! Hope someone knows how to solve this problem....
Keep me posted!
We must be asking a question that absolutely no one here on XDA can answer!!!! Have me managed to baffle their minds???
on my kaiser (details in my signature) button 5 has the camera assigned to it.
Does Camera show up more than 1 time in Settings -> Buttons? If so, try them all until one sticks.
You can also edit the registry to point Button 5 back to the camera. I don't have the keys in front of me, but if nobody posts them before I get home, I will.

Hi:
I too am having this problem. I have searched and searched, but can't find the settings for button 5. When I look at reg it seems to be pointing to GPS (I too use iGo). Correct camera settings would REALLY be appreciated.
Thanks!
EDIT: Nevermind. Even though settings...buttons doesn't show button 5 (instead it says GPS), If I map GPS (in buttons) to camera that seemed to work.
Opera auto rotate really annoys me so i disabled it by following instructions
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439136
how ever i sometimes want the screen to rotate and so made a very simple application using basic4ppc to be able to rotate the screen (and adding it to my start menu to simply click to rotate), this worked good so i thought i would make it work when holding button1 (which is normally comms manager but really never use it) - everything worked fine.
i have since reset phone and reinstalled everything back the same way, however now when i hold button1 opera appears to close (or at least go behind tf3d)
any ideas?
