tom tom 5 on xda 2i - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

does anyone have an idea why tt5 closes down after 1 hour - when you open it up again the postcode is still in and then it starts to calculate again - removed it and re installed it several times - even removed the read only off great_britain.cfg - running out of ideas!!!

have you tried looking at your pda settings under settings, backlight and power settings

GPS running in background?

Hi,
yesterday I went to the cinema and therefore turned my phone in the comm-manager off (not the whole pda, just the phone)... battery level was about 60%.
After 1,5 hours I looked at my diamond - battery level was only 20-30% and the back/bottom of the pda was really hot.
I opened the freeware task manager from http://www.dotfred.net to check if tomtom or anything else is running in the background, but I couldn't find any gps related task... (also neither bluetooth nor wifi was activated)
Restarting the PDA solved the problem (battery level was constant now, the temperature became cool)...
Now my questions:
1. How to determine if GPS is running (what is the process name or is there a tool to check if it's running or to manually deactivate it?)
2. Has someone else made this experience
Thanks for your help!
ageye
Well, perhaps you have already found a solution, but incase you haven't - on the home screen / Today screen, at the top, next to the battery Icon - you will see the default task manager.
Tapping on that will show you all the applications that are running.
You can close either one of them by tapping on the X next to them, or you can choose to close all of them by tapping on the X at the top (first Icon from the left)

well, I already checked everything - there was no application running in the background that accesses gps (at least none I know - windows service?)
Maybe it is related to sudden drain issues... see both topics:
(first one starts on page 2, as the first page is only bickering by me )

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405958
I don't think so... my battery lasts pretty long - only in this 1,5 hours it drained like hell...
and due to the fact that its back was really hot I supposed the gps to be running
if it only happens once, why care?
could have been a program that wasn't ended correctly and produced a high cpu load (also happens on desktop computers). Which isn't whown at the task manager. Maybe it was a serviece running in the backgorund that coause that load. That the softrest fixed that issue is an indication for me that i might was such a problem.
there is actually a reason for the massive battery drained.
i have tried several types of gps applications on my diamond and some of them just doesnt close the GPS after exiting the program. thus, this results in major battery drainage.
i am not sure what gps applications do you have on your device. but, what i did is to reset my device everytime after using gps. this is the safest way to make sure that the gps is turn off.
unless, someone is able to provide a small tool to off the gps.
cool, I'm not the only one -
I'm using TomTom and I think at this time I also used run.GPS...
I also hope that someone can provide a small tool to check if GPS is running and to close it (Today plugin?)

Help - Kaiser goes into standby after 30 seconds no matter what settings i select.

Hi Before i start, i have searched and tried various methods on fixing this problem.
My phone is a MDA VARIO III (UK)Branded kaiser with the t mobile official wm 6.1 rom on it
ROM 3.31.110.3 WWE
Radio 1.70.18.02
protocol 25.83.40.02H
running:-
kaiser tweak
tomtom
wmwifirouter
google maps etc etc
anyhow the problem is no matter what i do the device goes into standby after 30 seconds. this is even when running tomtom nav 6 (this never used to happen tomtom stayed running all the time) this also has the side effect of tomtom putting the gps into standby and i have to press the standby and loosing my posotion button every 30 seconds when driving which is annoying!
the backlight dim settings seem to function ok though.
this happens to all applications not just tomtom and also when plugged into the mains
i have tried adjusting the power setting which have no effect. and the unit just goes into stand by after 30 seconds
i have also tried the locklevelx trick but that did not work..
i also tried running the tilt hotfix, but it wanted to uninstall the old version and it was unable to do this and failed to install.
short of hard resetting the entire phone and loosing all my apps is there anything i can do?
Thanks
Rich
similar
I have a similar problem, and here is what i have, and have noticed:
JoshKoss rom (had the problem on the last few releases)
radio: 1.70.18.02
spl: 3.56 hard2
standby mode has operated normally when phone is not in cradle (i have not tested with longer standby times for battery operation, and i am currently set on the shortest allowed times.)
with standby disabled during external power, my screen will go black after about 20 seconds. it does not seem to function the same as a regular standby, as any hardware key will turn the screen back on, and the wifi doesn't disconnect. this situation did not occur after the new flash and cab installs, but took about a half day to begin each time.
update
looks like i have a program - worktrack by corrigo - that is causing my screen blanking.
I have the same problem with my touch pro. No matter what the phone goes into standby after 30 seconds, really annoying when using tomtom. I thought it was a rom issue so i flash a different rom. However the problem came back.
I have 3 of the programs you mentioned;
tomtom
wmwifirouter
google maps...
Really want a fix for this. It never used to occur but just recently it has started in the last week or so. Rom doesn't seem to be an issue here......its ANNOYING!!!
programs
to follow up with the similar programs, i also have wmwifi and google maps, but no tom tom.

now why would gps freeez ?

heya fellas
now here's something crazy going on with my SGS and the gps
started gps from the android power widget bar boom its on
start google maps from the menu and it starts
the map loads almost instantly from last position where i tried the gps
click on menu and choose My Location
phone says waiting for location followed by your current location is temporarily unavailable
so i goto the lbstest to check on how the gps is doing by *#*#1472365#*#*
goto Get position test and nothing shows up for 30-60 seconds
so i click back to homescreen to disable gps and reactivate it only to find out gps not going off on the notification bar and the only way to bring it to life is by a phone restart
happened 4-5 times and after the 6th restart i gave up
whats causing the gps to act like that ?
iv searched around and couldn't find a similar problem with other users
today after work on my way back home i said lets try it again but without the google maps
so gps on -- lbstest on -- get position -- and boom after 16 secs i have 8-11 sats ( mainly stood there with 10 sats for almost 30 secs with mainly high readings of 31 dBHz and up thru-out the list ) with reading from 19 to 41 dBHz as min and max
waited 60 to 120 secs and no lock just showing me that nice long list of sats
now im wondering what in gods name is going on
1. could it be launcher pro ? last installed app ( im loving the whole experiance, much faster than TWlauncher unfortunatly using homeswitcher whenever i need to check for kies updates, launcher pro wont start the mtp app )
2. could it be voodoo V4 lag fix (using the update.zip method) i so doubt a lagfix can do such a crazy thing to gps
someone tell me im not the only one with this problem
next time the GPS "freeze"
just turn off the phone, turn it back on, and it'll work again
from personal experience, it only goes into permanent sleep when it has been iddle for more than 12 hours give or take
so the best prevention, is simply to turn off GPS when you are not using it, rather than keep it ON all the time
i never keep it on , thats the problem
only before using google maps or any thing that requires gps
well just like i said a restart does solve the problem temporarily but keeps on doing that
how soon does the GPS freezes again after you reboot the phone
does it only freeze after you don't use it for a while?
Its totally random, either immediately after starting gps or after switching it on/off 2-3 times
I guess a hard reset could help at this point, totally useless now, can't get a lock no matter what I do

[Q] X1 WM6.5 suddenly extremely slow

Hi,
I am using WM6.5 (system 5.2.21869.5.0.82, Manila 2.5.19202525.0, ROM 1.05.931.10 GER, radio 1.14.25.55) since more than a year, and it went very well. Very rare crashes, the only problem has been that the battery management does not prevent deep unloading of the battery, and that in the radio off (flight mode) status, it sucks the battery quite quickly. Everthing else had been great.
Now the phone has suddenly several strange problems, after I used the GPS with TomTom for several hours (it gets quite warm due to the GPS power consumption):
1) The phone is extremely slow - everything works more or less, but updating any screen or starting an app needs very much time. Cold booting as well.
2) The big clock at the main page is not updated. Only the time in the status bar (upper right corner) is correct, any clock on the main page remains on the same time until a refresh of the display is made by exiting any other menu.
3) The contacts list is empty and shows only the search dialogue (which is so slow that I even dont know whether it will find some day anything). However, the list is populated, I can access it from the telephone menu (lower left icon) without problems.
Any idea for a quick fix without reflashing? Is there a diagnosis tool around which can be used to check for hidden processes in the memory or hardware defects?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Maybe problem with TomTom. Did TomTom exit completely? Maybe is TomTom still working in background. Look in Task manager is Tom still active.
Problem probably solved - rapiclnt process killed
Nope. TomTom was not running - that would have been strange since I did several cold starts during the last days.
But I installed a task manager tool and had a look to the various processes. I found a JBed daemon an killed it. The rapiclnt process seemed also strange to me, and I found a thread about a possible bug in this process (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/zhengpei/ar...hangs-anti-virus-software-and-activesync.aspx). So I killed it as well. The active sync connection stopped, and when resumed, rapiclnt was not running anymore. And the phone behaves well again! Clock on the main screen updates regularly, the X1 is quick as before, and the contacts list works again.
I hope that was it, let's see. If any problems remain, I will post again.
Thread removed to Q&A as not Rom Dev, please post in the correct section, congrats in fix
Thanks

[Q] Ndrive closes exactly 21 minutes after start

SGS with Slim ICS 4.0.3
I have a feeling this is not a problem, but a feature, which makes it even more annoying.
So I'm using Ndrive navigation on battery and 20 minutes later the phone locks, the screen switches off and for some unknown reason NDrive closes too.
Is this the supposed sleep function?
I got a log from CatLog:
Code:
paste.ubuntu.com/899951/
How can I make it stay as long as the battery dies
I know about Developer Option/Stay Awake but it says that works only while charging - haven't tried if it works yet.
Also I use Droidwall to block Wifi/3G connections to Ndrive as it has some sort of built-in protection and it closes itself right after opening
Just tested the Developer Options/Stay Awake while the phone is plugged in the computer = the screen turns off after exactly 20 minutes and when I unlock the phone Ndrive has closed too.
So it is after 20 minutes every time.
I read that might be related to the Deep Idle CPU state
Any ideas?
I established it is exactly 21 minutes after starting to navigate.
Anyone, any ideas please.
For anyone having this issue: I did a reset on the settings to default = no more closing

I had this problem too but made some changes on the options menu and i think it solved.
That is a bug of the Ndrive app, it appens on 2.3.3 too for example.
