Hi,
yesterday I went to the cinema and therefore turned my phone in the comm-manager off (not the whole pda, just the phone)... battery level was about 60%.
After 1,5 hours I looked at my diamond - battery level was only 20-30% and the back/bottom of the pda was really hot.
I opened the freeware task manager from http://www.dotfred.net to check if tomtom or anything else is running in the background, but I couldn't find any gps related task... (also neither bluetooth nor wifi was activated)
Restarting the PDA solved the problem (battery level was constant now, the temperature became cool)...
Now my questions:
1. How to determine if GPS is running (what is the process name or is there a tool to check if it's running or to manually deactivate it?)
2. Has someone else made this experience
Thanks for your help!
ageye
Well, perhaps you have already found a solution, but incase you haven't - on the home screen / Today screen, at the top, next to the battery Icon - you will see the default task manager.
Tapping on that will show you all the applications that are running.
You can close either one of them by tapping on the X next to them, or you can choose to close all of them by tapping on the X at the top (first Icon from the left)

well, I already checked everything - there was no application running in the background that accesses gps (at least none I know - windows service?)
Maybe it is related to sudden drain issues... see both topics:
(first one starts on page 2, as the first page is only bickering by me )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405383&page=2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405958
I don't think so... my battery lasts pretty long - only in this 1,5 hours it drained like hell...
and due to the fact that its back was really hot I supposed the gps to be running
if it only happens once, why care?
could have been a program that wasn't ended correctly and produced a high cpu load (also happens on desktop computers). Which isn't whown at the task manager. Maybe it was a serviece running in the backgorund that coause that load. That the softrest fixed that issue is an indication for me that i might was such a problem.
there is actually a reason for the massive battery drained.
i have tried several types of gps applications on my diamond and some of them just doesnt close the GPS after exiting the program. thus, this results in major battery drainage.
i am not sure what gps applications do you have on your device. but, what i did is to reset my device everytime after using gps. this is the safest way to make sure that the gps is turn off.
unless, someone is able to provide a small tool to off the gps.
cool, I'm not the only one -
I'm using TomTom and I think at this time I also used run.GPS...
I also hope that someone can provide a small tool to check if GPS is running and to close it (Today plugin?)

**(SOLVED)**I have a slight problem that started recently with my phone, and was hoping someone would know a possible solution or have heard of something similar.(before i go on, i have searched around the forum for a while, and saw no issue that is very similar)
Firstly, i have the stock htc/at&t rom, stock radio, basically everything out of the box aside from a bunch .cabs and games.
Basically, on my today screen, in the top right corner it displays the network coverage (i.e. 3G, HSPDA, EDGE, etc...), the volume setting of my phone(ring, vibe, silent), the battery icon, and the task manager.
Currently, the battery status indicator says full, however when i touch it and the battery power remaining screen comes up it shows 55%.
What i have figured out has happened is that the battery icon in the top right will display whatever charge the battery is at when i turn on my phone, for example if my phone is plugged into a charger and i turn on the phone, until i reset my phone it will display it as being plugged in. So while once i click on it - it will show me the correct battery power remaining, the actual icon itself is not working properly.
[its not so much the that it not working affects me very much, its the fact that it should be working and isnt is quite irritating]
currently the .cabs i have installed are:
HTC home customizer
Pandora Touch 3G dialer
A_C S2U2 (slide to unlock)
pocketmax quote today
jizy HTC action screen
HTC HTC Plus
Spb Time
HTC HTC Home
Of those, i have narrowed it down to probably being cause by the Slide to Unlock program, 3G dialer, or the HTC home customizer, but these are just guesses based on the time i installed the .cabs(usually do a few at a time), and when i noticed the problem started occuring.
As well i might mention that the .cabs i installed might not be the most up-to-date, so if anyone knows that an older version of a cab i have produced a similar problem, than it might be because i have that older version. like i said i have searched for a solution to this problem, but haven't had any successful results.
thanks.
bump.
bumpity bump bump.
did you ever install the battery icon installs from the thread below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289003
also you can check this registry key...
HKLM/securoty/resover/bitmaps
If you have 2 keys in there titled "BatteryIconIdStart" and "BatteryIconLevels", that could also be the issue.
Let me know if you have either of these keys in your registry.
Solved
tnx for the suggestions guys, but i found the problem to be in the Touch 3g dialer(not sure exactly where).
Uninstalled and problem is fixed.
So a word of warning, Don't Install The Touch Dialer. lol.

I am having the same problem... just uninstaller the touch dialer, but unfortunatley, did not seem to fix the problem. I'll try reinstalling the battery status icon's mentioned above as well (I had previously installed them) in the morning... but for now need to get to sleep. I would like to know if anyone else using the touch dialer is having this issue though.
Hi,
I am using WM6.5 (system 5.2.21869.5.0.82, Manila 2.5.19202525.0, ROM 1.05.931.10 GER, radio 1.14.25.55) since more than a year, and it went very well. Very rare crashes, the only problem has been that the battery management does not prevent deep unloading of the battery, and that in the radio off (flight mode) status, it sucks the battery quite quickly. Everthing else had been great.
Now the phone has suddenly several strange problems, after I used the GPS with TomTom for several hours (it gets quite warm due to the GPS power consumption):
1) The phone is extremely slow - everything works more or less, but updating any screen or starting an app needs very much time. Cold booting as well.
2) The big clock at the main page is not updated. Only the time in the status bar (upper right corner) is correct, any clock on the main page remains on the same time until a refresh of the display is made by exiting any other menu.
3) The contacts list is empty and shows only the search dialogue (which is so slow that I even dont know whether it will find some day anything). However, the list is populated, I can access it from the telephone menu (lower left icon) without problems.
Any idea for a quick fix without reflashing? Is there a diagnosis tool around which can be used to check for hidden processes in the memory or hardware defects?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Maybe problem with TomTom. Did TomTom exit completely? Maybe is TomTom still working in background. Look in Task manager is Tom still active.
Problem probably solved - rapiclnt process killed
Nope. TomTom was not running - that would have been strange since I did several cold starts during the last days.
But I installed a task manager tool and had a look to the various processes. I found a JBed daemon an killed it. The rapiclnt process seemed also strange to me, and I found a thread about a possible bug in this process (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/zhengpei/ar...hangs-anti-virus-software-and-activesync.aspx). So I killed it as well. The active sync connection stopped, and when resumed, rapiclnt was not running anymore. And the phone behaves well again! Clock on the main screen updates regularly, the X1 is quick as before, and the contacts list works again.
I hope that was it, let's see. If any problems remain, I will post again.
Thread removed to Q&A as not Rom Dev, please post in the correct section, congrats in fix
Thanks

Sorry if this is a dupe, I can't seam to search just a form form with the mobile app.
Has anyone else has a issue where after a few days GPS stops working? Anything that requests a fix doesn't get anything, maps and gps fix. Toggling GPS or Airplain modes doesn't fix it. I end up having to reboot, thanks for no reboot option in the power menu moto, and then it works fine.
It seams like a odd bug. I do use task killer somewhat frequently. Are there any apps that will let me restart gps?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
I am having the same issue. One day it works fine, then a couple days later, no go! It doesn't even bring up the icon in the status bar showing that it is trying to get a fix. I have a hard time believing that no one else is running into this issue.
A reboot fixes it, so I have this strange feeling there is an app/process of some sort that is making it hang...
Same here. Always does it at the most inconvenient times too.
There have been satellite issues over the last few weeks - solar flares and whatnot - that have disrupted service. Task killers, also, could also be screwing up your system. Tasks aren't the same thing on your phone that they are on Windows, and don't actively use up power and memory. Android generally manages tasks quite well. Using a task killer is wasting more energy than not using it would, I'd bet.
I get the same issue.
I put the GPS widget on a home screen. I click GPS off - wait a sec - and click it back on. Works.
I usually have to reboot as well. I've noticed the gps icon just doesn't show up at all.
which reminds me. I really hate VZ navigator. It keeps running.
Alright. post 2 (trying to keep it useful...)
Hello,
Here's too question : First, I've seen, in BetterBatteryStats i think, that you could see how long wifi has been on AND ALSO how long it was working (meaning receiving/sending). Cause the "wifi on" stat is always at 100% even though in advanced options i've set it to sleep after i put the device to sleep.
Second, at every boot in status bar i see "Currently checking media" but i don't understand that, since this is internal memory, and since the system has started already, why the hell it's doing this before loading everything? And also it takes at least 5-10seconds before it's starting doing it... All that take more than 20seconds...
Last thing, i saw in Android battery usage "Wifi sharing", what is that exactly?
Thanks!
In order:
The WiFi sleep seems to work intermittently. I stopped using that and use Llama to turn off my WiFi 1 minute after screen off. Tasker will be able to do this too, I believe. It works very well, and I can even set it not to turn off if certain apps are running, like Internet radio.
Media checking is something that happens. It is a good thing. It gets lists of all media files so you do not have to search when loading most apps. If charging while off, I normally leave the Note plugged in until all searches are done, and then another minute or two to reach 100% battery when I boot.
WiFi sharing is a leech on your battery, unless you happen to want to share your WiFi. It was one of the first items I blocked once I rooted the phone. You need Root to block, disable or remove this.
Thanks for all that, but there're things i don't get : 1/ Are you saying that "turn after screen's off option" is useless/defective? And why you tell me to use tasker (not free) if Llama (free) can do the job? 2/ Do not have to search what? And why telling you keep the note plugged 2min after Media Checking? 3/ Wifi Sharing app (the trouble maker) is not android tether function, right? If so, in which app does it share wifi? As said, i tried to freeze it with Titanium but it kept loading. I don't like Freeze with Anttek cause there's still an icon app in my Folder Organizer widget (which list all apps icon on a screen).
PS: I really wanna find back the app where was displyed the info i mentionned in 1st post (see when wifi's working and not just when it's on)
1. Yes, I think the WiFi sleep function is defective. Just my view. Llama does the job much better, which is why I suggest it. It does a great deal more too, which is also why I suggest it.
2. The media search operation is searching for all media. This is music, photos and videos (not sure what else, if anything). Once completed applications do not have to look at your SD card every time they open to search for media. This makes the apps faster and saves battery. Ignore the rest of what I said.
3. I do not know if WiFi sharing is the Tether function. It certainly seems like it could be. If it is frozen by Titanium it should not be starting. I have no idea why it does.
My widgets are very slow to update. It may take him a half hour or longer to update. I have checked battery optimization is not on for those apps, although one of those two apps that I have the problem with background data is grayed out. So I can't turn on allow background data. Not sure why that would be great out.
Any thoughts?
Wunderlist Task List.
DTG/GTD
But, I did some things poking around, don't remember for sure what all, but I had read that changing the Animation Scale etc to .5 would help. I did change that.
Before posting, I had found that Wunderlist was on battery optimization. Changing it didn't appear to help, so I posted. But now, it seems to be working. Maybe it's fixed. I'll post back in a day or two and indicate if it is still working or has stopped again.
Well, no, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that's the only change I made, and at that point it had started working.
Are you having same problem, albeit different widgets?
FYI... mine is now not working again. I'm not surprised. But am frustrated.
Update...
I am finding that it does eventually update. It feels like the phone has been taken over by something. But, then, other things don't seem slow.
I just installed Gsam battery monitor, and ran the ADB cmds to try to identify apps using battery. Maybe I'll find something using a lot of battery and hence cycles.
My battery does seem to be going down quite a bit faster than it should.
It cleared up for a while after a factory reset,But it's back, and, I find that notifications from Lightflow come in 30 minutes after recieved.
It's like the phone is operating in molasses.
I'm beginning to think this phone is crap. If I switch back to my old Mate 9 it works fine.

certain apps aren't syncing well with pie. i had this same issue with Beautiful widgets, could not get the weather or time to update unless i manually updated it.
Under <Problem APP's> App Info > Battery
1.A Make sure the app is allowed background activity
1.B Make sure the app is not set to "optimized"
. (note: by default, the optimized list will only show apps that HAVEN'T been optimized, . you have to select "ALL" at the top to see all apps.)
Under <Problem APP's> App Info > Mobile Data
2.A Make sure "allow background data usage" is enabled.
2.B Make sure "allow app while data saver is on" if you have data saver enabled.
. (enable this if you want to be sure an app will receive background data.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't seem to be having any luck with that. Had already done those.
But!! ...
I just found a post after doing a global search for another issue I am having that seems to coincide with the widget issues, which is, Play Store freezing during updates. The post was in a Xaiomi forum. He said that he found if he had blue tooth on, his play store would constantly freeze. He turned off BT, and rebooted, and it worked.
I just did the same thing...and it is working...both the play store, and widget updates.
Interesting to have the great feeling of success, along with the frustration of a new (newly realized) issue yet remaining (BT).
Looking for a little further and through the settings on Bluetooth, I turned off Bluetooth scan. Now at first I would still have problems with Bluetooth on even though Bluetooth to scan was off. That of course would be very quickly after turning it on or off at cetera.
so this morning I get up having left Bluetooth on all night, with scan off, and everything's working fine. I did find last night that when I would first turn Bluetooth on even with skin off, the problems would be there. But of course when you first turn Bluetooth on it's going to scan anyway.
so I will update this thread little later after I see a little more about weather. Just having scan off actually cures the problem, in case someone else runs into this and it helps them.
