Upgrade of K-JAM - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi,
I only recently got a K-JAM (Sim free, but I have it working on Vodafone IRL).
The ROM versions are:
1.1.9.3 9/16/5), 1.01.10, 4.0.13.16, 1.1.9.106
Can I upgrade to the latest Qtek ROM?
Is it worth upgrading?
Whats the full procedure?
I read some of the other threads but they digress into other confusing topics....

Thanks, I tried that, got lots of errors (Can't find path') on options e and u. However, the last line to appear says DONE! so maybe it worked.
Where does the file lock_backup.bin get created?
Anyway, the RUU updater crashes shortly after starting the upgrade which requires a hard reset of the device.

How can I eventually reflash my original CID with lock_backup.bin?
(In case of warranty need)

Do I need to unlock CID first before Backing up my ROM and Extended ROM?
Then, if anything goes wrong in future with a ROM/EXTENDED_ROM update, can I just restore my original backups and everything will be fine?

Youre right!
1)Enable RAPI
2)unlock CID
3)Backup
4)Flash (the best with a shipped ROM)

Full ROM Backup

Hi All!
I'm newbie here. Please, don't beat me for my question .
I've got Qtek 9100, and now want to play with ROM. BUT! I read a lot of here, and haven't found the Full ROM Backup programm. Is it possible? Or, the only way to backup my original ROM partly, using aWizard?
Thanks for any help.
The aWizard tools do Backup all of the rom except bootloader.
BUT: The ExtROM is backuped in single files which is a problem when you want to insert the ExtROM back into the Wizard: because with the newer ROMs (1.6.x) the ExtROM can only be made visible (and stays read-only).

addr You can backup full ROM to SD card, and then to your PC.

Ah, great!
That's the very thing i was looking for!

I tried using your backup for my ROM, because I was going to upgrade. I'm definitely a newbie at ROM upgrading and backing up...
After running the backup utility, my Qtek won't see my mini-sd card anymore. Do you know how I can make it see my card again? Did the process reformat my card or is there another problem?
Thanks!

the data backup in your mini-sd-card is not FAT compliant. but it's OK for restoring using Qtek's rom-flash procedure.
in another way, you can use tools like WinHex to view, edit or save your mini-SD to a PC as a raw binary file.

If you have already saved your ROM image to PC (myrom.bin file), you can format SD card, and use it as always.
Um, I have a noobie question as well...
Will a full ROM backup take a backup up of everything installed after being shipped from the manufacturer, i.e. programs, reg settings etc., or will it only backup the basic ROM and extended ROM, i.e. what you're left with when you hard reset your device?
the_invisigoth Yes, only ROM, not installed apps.
Hi Button,
Does your program backup the whole ROM (ie OS + Extended) or just the OS??
Is there a way to backup the OS only so that I can backup the latest Qtek OS part only. Reload my T-mobile extended ROM then restore the Qtek OS only ROM, giving me the latest OS with my T-mobile customisation??
Cheers

It backups Full ROM = OS+ExR+Radio+SPL/IPL+Splash..
Use aWizard to backup your ROM partly.
I needed Button's program before I updated to 2.8.7. I have a cingular 8125 I upgraded to 2.8.7 it overwrote my extended ROM, when I flashed everything back from awizard I relaized my extended ROM was not restored, so I flashed to 1.5.4 so I could access the extended ROM, but it downgraded my IPL and SPL to 1.?? from 2.??. So once I restored my extended ROM in 1.5.4 I upgraded just the OS to 1.8.11 from my original backup, and now when I do a hardreset it locks up during extended ROM installation. Unless I can find a way to edit the extended ROM on 2.8.7 I wont be able to restore my unit to original specs. Unless someone uses Buttons program on a Cingular 8125 and uploads it somewhere for me. I am gonna return this unit to frys and purchase it at the cingular store for a bit cheaper price. So I was hoping to restore it to orignal specs so the next helpless frys customer dosent get stuck wth a funky unit. Thanks all!
@Button,
would this method allow me to replace my 8125 to its original state including the bootloader flash screen ? i am needing to put my 8125 to its original state prior to returning.
I have a new 8125 that i could take a backup of and want to load it onto the one that i am returning. would this work ? thank you
Yes it should work.
Button,
does your program also perform restoral of ROM and all its content from the backup it's made ?
thanks for your help.

It can backup only 'clear' ROM, without programms that you have installed manually.
THANK YOU BUTTON !!!!
I was able to FULLY RESTORE my Cingular 8125 to its OEM Spec including the first boot splash screen !!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!
I spoke too soon.
Here's what happens...
After 8125 has been booted up, on the screen it says, "Data Crashes. Please contact your service Provider". And if you see on the top left corner, it says SIM LOCK. It will not let me reload the image again from the SD card from the bootloader. When I press the Voice Dial, it says, No Update Allow!.
I've tried to run the aWizard and Lokitz tool to unlock again but to no avail.
Have you seen thsi before ?
First, try to flash an old rom (from bootloader mode), - run any ruu. Then, unlock SIM and CID, if it is need. And then use SD card to restore your original rom.

T-Mobile MDA Production/Shipping ROM Download Link (USA)

Many users have been requesting the ROM for the production MDA's. I tried to upload it to the XDA-Developers FTP site but I could not upload it to the T-Mobile ROM directory so if a moderator can download this from the link I provided and move it to the FTP server for long term access.
Specs are as follows:
ROM Version 1.8.10.2 WWE
ROM Date 12/10/05
Radio Version 01.09.10
Protocol Version 4.0.13.20
This does not include the Extended ROM as that is already provided in the link below as this is where this request for the full rom was initiated.
http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=efbcdfc90bfae88ed9ac9ec8fcda5cc6
Scroll to the bottom of the page once you go to the megashares link and you will see the Download Now link.
If you need the Extended ROM follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41348
Question - you can't just flash back the extended ROM, right?
Yes but it is not the same procedure as backing up or writing a new ROM as you need a utility which I mention below. What you need to do is first "Unlock/Unhide" the hidden Extended ROM partition on your MDA. Once you do this you can see the extended ROM files which are posted in the link above. (There is a utility called Unlock Ext Rom Wizard.cab) on the XDA FTP server. You copy this to your MDA and click on it and it should unlock the parition/folder. After running it I would do a soft reset.
You can then use ActiveSync's Remote File Explorer Utility to move the files around as you will see the new partition when you select change folder.
Basically you copy your original extended ROM files to a safe location for backup and then delete all the files in the extended ROM directory. Copy the Extended ROM files that you downloaded into the Extended ROM directory and once you do a hard reset it will automatically install the new files when it boots up.
Ah, ok... thanks - I don't see the unlock tool for the Extended ROM though....
Nevermind... found it.
any changes, improvements or modifications worthy of mentioning in this ROM?
thanks,
How do you change the boot screen. I only see the ability to restore the radio and OS...

My Extended Rom is writable, but is still hidden. I think it may be due to the fact that I used aWizard 1.3b2 (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386) to remove the CID lock from my phone and change the splash screen. I then also patched my radio to 01.13.10.
Can the original poster explain how to restore the T-Mobile ROM? The utility that is in the folder did the CID unlock on my phone and all that successfully, but when I do option "w" (write OS ROM to device), it doesn't "find" the T-Mo ROM right there in the folder. I don't get it. =(

When disabling Flight Mode, the original radio took about 30 to 45 seconds to get a signal. The new radio takes closer to 2 minutes. However, the new radio gets 3 bars of signal in places the old radio only got 1. I consider a reasonable tradeoff, as I don't use Flight Mode very often.

I had that initial problem myself. I had to copy it to my C:\Flash since it didn't seem to work correctly off my g: drive under a few folders deep. I looked at the .cmd (batch) file at what it does is do a dir /s (directory listing including looking under subfolders) for *.nba files looking for radio or os in the filename. If you do not see a number then it is not finding the .nba files. When it does find them you will see the name of the rom file preceeded by a number. I would do what I did with the directories and if that doesn't work copy the .nba files into the root folder of the .cmd file folder.
i try to restore the rom with this flash.. the version on my phone is
rom : 1.8.10.2 WWE
rom date : 12/10/05
radio version 01.04.10
protocol version: 4.0.13.17
extrom version: 1.8.10.104
Hello,
Anyone has this rom ( Version : 1.8.10.2 )? If so, is it possible please upload. I'm searching for a wizard ROM which shows MM/DD/YY in device info ( i.e 12/10/05 ).
I request again, if you have please upload coz its urgently needed for me.

Hey back at ya.
First download lokiwiz v2b. Don't use previous versions or you'll not get through this!!
Hard reset your device (not necessary, but it ensures you'll have no hassle with Activesync).
Done that? Good. Extract the lokiwiz v2b .zip folder and copy enablerapi.cab to your memory card or to 'My Documents' folder on your device. Then execute the 'enablerapi.cab'.
Done? Just switch off the device (power button; put it in standby mode).
If you have Activesync already installed, un-install it and re-install directly afterwards (ensure a brand new partnership).
Then when prompted by Activesync, plug in your USB cable PC-PPC and it should recognise as usual.
Then execute the lokiwiz.bat file (in the folder that was generated earlier when you extracted the lokiwiz02b.zip file) and when you see the MS Dos (black screen) choose the option CID Unlock (SuperCID) and wait for it to COMPLETELY finish. You'll know it's finished when your Wizard is re-booting. Plug out your USB cable at this stage.
Once re-booted and back into WM5, re-connect your cable and if all goes well it should re-connect to Active Sync (wait till it has finished syncing or says connected!).
Finally......double click the executable file, which should be:
RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
Hopefully it will now install the ROM without hiccups (about 10 minutes).

I don't know if this will work with the 8125, but If under 'Start/Settings/System/Device Information/Identity' it says 'WIZA200', i would assume so, as it was created for the HTC Wizard, but I'm not sure.
As for totalyy unlocking your phone, YES it will. CID Unlock did it for me, but I'm not the developer of this software so am not in the best position to advise if it is suitable for anything else other than a Wizard.

Is that possible?
From what I gathered, if you flash it to the iMate rom, the Extended rom portion becomes locked to the iMate Extended rom. You can't even reflash it back. Until someone comes out with a version of the full iMate rom with an unlocked Extended, or breaks up the iMate rom into GSM, OS, and Extended and you do it manually, I think it is impossible.
Or I could be totally wrong.

Alright, then answer me this:
Can you take the iMate full rom, do that flash, and just then flash the TMO extended rom on top of that, so upon a hard reset it'll have the iMate GSM and OS roms, but then go through the stock TMO Extended rom updates (one of which will kill wifi)?
If so, that answers my question of going back to "bone stock." That's my concern with flashing to the iMate rom: 1) having a locked extended rom that I may or may not be able to revert back from, and 2) being able to go back to how the phone looked coming out of the box.

Can you take the iMate full rom, do that flash, and just then flash the TMO extended rom on top of that, so upon a hard reset it'll have the iMate GSM and OS roms, but then go through the stock TMO Extended rom updates (one of which will kill wifi)?

No, but you (1) don't have to and (2) DON'T WANT TO, as some of the T-Mobile CABs will kill things in the new release AND they're inferior anyway (the connection button is one of them!)
In fact, unless you want the OZIm client and the "SMS email triggers" you need to load only TWO of the T-Mo US CABs on top of the Imate ROM (by hand) to get full functionality. No problems with this approach at all (of course you don't get the T-Mo pukie home screen this way, but I don't want it anyway!)
I posted in one of the other threads where you asked this how to accomplish it.
If so, that answers my question of going back to "bone stock." That's my concern with flashing to the iMate rom: 1) having a locked extended rom that I may or may not be able to revert back from, and 2) being able to go back to how the phone looked coming out of the box.

Going back to how the phone looked out of the box is easy if you have an SD image of the original T-Mobile ROM and an SD card. No problem with that at all - as I've noted here repeatedly I have TESTED this and it works fine.
So let me get this straight, to get past the locked extended rom imate creates, I need to flash to tmobile to be able to flash bac the original cingular rom? Ah well, guess I gan stay with the imate rom till cingular releases an official rom release

Need Help downgrading 9100 from AKU to original 1.1.7.5 rom

Hello all,
I have recently upgraded my 9100 from stock rom 1.1.7.5 (9/22/05) to the AKU rom. I plan to return back to the original ROM since I find some unstabilities with this one.
I have been searching a lot but I couldnt find the link to download 1.1.7.5 qtek (9/22/05) ROM. Can somebody please help me out with this ?
Further, I have read something which kinda scared me a bit. I have seen some posts saying that while downgrading, they have got an error during the flashing process saying "Upgrade only".
A little more reading suggested that I can go to bootloader and then try the flashing process whcih worked some guys. Can someone please let me now this process, and also the link to 9/22/05 rom.
I appreciate your help.

Hi, I went through this post of urs. But I have a question.
Now download the (Lokiwiz02b) from HERE;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796
and follow the instructions .do not forget to copy the. cab file(enable rapi) to your device and run it before running Lokiwiz.
Now run lockiwiz and unlock your machine, your machine will reboot itself.
That’s it your Wizard is unlocked.

If I do this, will it void my warranty. I upgraded to original qtek AKU rom to stay within the warranty. My plan was again to go back to qtek 9/22/05 ROM again which will still not void the warranty.
Please let me know.

[Attention]
This utility is created for experimental purpose only. Use it at your own risk!
!!!!Please choose the unlock CID option before you flash any new ROM!!! Alternatively, your phone may risk chance to become dead!!!!
Starting from version 1.3 please put your ROM file to the "ROM" folder and BMP file in "SplashBMP" folder

[Introduction]
AWizard is a user friendly ROM Utility, which provides a single place to do Wizard ROM, related tasks. OS ROM can be backup and restore using USB ActiveSync connection. In addition to backup/restore, I have successed in modifying the OS ROM and flash it back to the Wizard. This function will be available in the coming releases depends on demand.
Some user have reported that they have successfully backup and restore their Charmer(MDA Compact II) OS and Extended ROM. But again. Please make sure you know what u are doing before your write anything to the Charmer. I don't have a Charmer device to test with. So do it at your own risk.
Other ROM Types like Bootloader, Radio and Extended ROM will not be affected. To change those parts, please use corresponding update programs and then use aWizard to change the OS to your desired one.
[Installation]
Unzip the aWizard to the root of c drive
[Usage]
Run aWizard.cmd on DOS Prompt, or just double click the file in Windows Explorer. If fail, rename to aWizard.bat before run.
* Please put ROM(Including Splash Logo ROM) in the ROM folder, and Splash BMP files(*.BMP) in SplashBMP folder.
