IN NEED OF HELP - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Hi there all
Heres my problem I just bought a XDA IIi SIM free, and I was going to put a O2 online SIM into it. But I have heard that you cannot use Mobile Web if I do this. I just want to know if this is true or not, and if it isn't true: then how do I set up the phone to connect to mobile web?
Also could I access mobile web through Wireless LAN as both my house and university use Wireless LANs?
My understanding is that mobile web is more like the actual web, rather than WAP like o2 Active.
Another thing is that my girlfriend has the Sony Ericcson K750i and uses a O2 online SIM card in it, and when she turns on her WAP it goes straight to google. Is this mobile web or wap? and if it is mobile web, if I just copied her settings, would it work for me?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'am new to this and dont pretend to know anything lol
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thank you

When you say O2 online SIM, is it pay monthly or payg?
The 2i will connect to the real internet using gprs, wap or wifi, you just need the settings which can be found on this site for gprs and wap. The wifi you'll already have any router settings you may need. If the SIM is pay monthly then O2 active contains most if the settings you need.
You can set your homepage to whatever you want as the 2i uses ie6 mobile.

Thanks
the sim card is the online sim that you pay £10 a month and get 300 free texts along with your £10 worth of credit
will this have any bearing on the settings?
thank you

Well, there's only one way to find out, try it. What's the worst that will happen? It doesn't work and you'll have to ask again? You can't break it by trying.
No doubt someone will be along with a definite answer soon.
Have a look in the network section too.

ok
lol ok thanks for the help

Internet access in Spain

I'm hoping that someone here can give me some advice on getting temporary high speed internet access in Spain. I've never been to Europe, so I'm not sure how it works over there.
I am going to be staying in an apartment in Torredembarra, Spain for about 2 months. I have been told that there is currently no internet connectivity in the apartment unit and no guarantee that free wifi access is available within range. I will be living and working from there, and my livelihood depends upon high-speed internet access, so I need to figure this out before I go.
Would it be better to find a pay-as-you-go cell plan that includes 3G data, or to look into having DSL/Cable/etc installed at the apartment for 2 months? Here is some additional info that I'm factoring in:
I will need to make and receive phone calls from/to the states while there, as well as having a local cell phone. I'm thinking about using Skype In/Out for calls to the states. I'm even considering getting TMobile HotSpot @ Home service to make calls from any wifi hotspot. But regardless, I will be getting a local pay-as-you-go cell plan. Any other ideas?
My notebook has bluetooth, wifi, and gprs/edge built in (sony viao), but no 3G. Would it be better to get a 3G card for it, or connect via bluetooth to a 3G mobile phone? Can I make calls at the same time as data is being used?
I'm not interested in spending all day at a cafe or bar with free wifi. I need to be able to work from the apartment, or I just won't be very productive.
If it is available, I hope to purchase an unlocked HTC Kaiser while over there. If that isn't available, then any suggestions on what to get?
I need to be able to use SSH from where ever I am to manage servers remotely. So a windows mobile device with data is preferred.
Because of all this, I'm thinking that I should not worry about the DSL/cable thing and just get a 3G cell phone/plan. Since I need a phone anyway, why get a phone and land service? Or would it be cheaper to get a cheap cell plan and land service? Any feedback on this?
If I was to get a mobile data plan, can I get 3G data plans on a pay-as-you-go basis, or do you have to sign up for a contract?
What mobile phone provider would be best for this situation? What handset?
Can I get DSL/cable installed in a residence for only a couple months? How long does it take to get installed once ordered? How much does it cost per month?
What kind of costs would be involved, assuming I am using a fair amount of data? I'm prepared to spend some money on this, but of course I'd rather be as economical as possible while still having a good solution.
Please offer your advice! If you know of another forum that would be more appropriate for this type of question, please let me know. I couldn't figure out where to post this.
Thanks!
In case it helps, I have a USA T-Mobile MDA (Wizard) with gprs/edge support but no 3G support.

Anyone know the settings for O2??

I received an HTC Kaiser for Christmas and have an O2 pay and go Sim. I have tried to get the MMS, WAP & GPRS setting from O2 but they are useless.
They even sell the phone as the XDA Stellar but still haven't got the relevant entries for this product.
I would be very grateful if someone could post either the settings or where I can find them.
Many thanks
tyoungcb10 (almost newbie although my previous phone is a Wizard)

That site will give you ALL the information you need
I have spent many hours on the phone to O2 trying to get the PAYG settingsfor my XDA Exec, to be told everytime that I cant have them.
The reason is I need to go on contract - full internet access isnt supported on PAYG.
What made me laugh is they sent me a 3G sim upgrade, only to then say I cant use this sim in my O2 branded phone to access the net.
Utterly crazy, none of the other networks block internet access.
Thanks Nikumba.
Regrettably that site is way out of date and doesn't have the specific settings for the Kaiser (XDA Stellar).
I have the settings for the XDA Exec for GPRS Web and GPRS Wap so if you want them let me know. I used to go online with my previous mobile XDA Mini S (HTC Wizard) & that was on a Pay and Go basis.
I will have to push O2 for better answers or change to a better network.

I use O2 with paygo for FULL WEB ACCESS without problems (I am in the UK) - BUT not all the published settings are correct!
By the wat the settings are not any different for the Kaiser than other WM devices eg mine are the same as I use in my TyTn
UK Settings written for the TyTn so menus may differ slightly(they may differ elsewhere):

Problems with Internet access are likely to be related to the port No: use 8080 NOT 80

Can't connect to internet through 3!! Help!!

Searched and searched but can't find anything about this. Due to living in an area with poor mobile reception (except orange but their data rates are extortionate) I've decided to trial some PAYG sims to see which will be usable. I am getting an excellent reception on the 3 sim but the roaming triangle appears at the top of the screen. I think it is roaming on the orange network. Thing is I've just payed £5 for the internet add on but I cant actually connect to the net!! Any page I try and load it just loads 1 byte and then stops. I've gone through the automatic setting and also tried it manually. Tried switching the phone settings to WCDMA but then I get nothing at all!!
Can anybody please help before I go INSANE!!!!
I use Orange and pay £5 for unlimited 1900-07:00 & weekends and then a maximum of £1.50 per day upto 25mb downloaded.
Is that what they told you about charges?
A further update on this issue. Having read a thread on the 4win forum I decided that it may be a dodgy sim card as i had purchased it off ebay. So today I toddled off to the nearest 3 shop for a new sim card. Whilst in there I decided to show the guy (who had never even seen or heard of the kaiser) the problem I was having. Would you believe it, it worked spot on, presumably because the shop was located in an area recieving a 3 3g signal. Thus it must indicate that you can only get on the internet in 3 service areas and not whilst roaming on other networks. Can anyone confirm if this is actually the case?
nope, I use a PAYG sim and it works roaming or not, use it for direct push and nmotes and all works fine. Using the £5 internet bolton, and faked the kaiser as a Nokia N95
Flubster
On Three, when my TYTN II flips over to GPRS or a little triangle (EDGE?) (and presumably at that point I'm roaming on orange at that point), I find I can't get anything downloaded either.
I wonder if there is something in Three phones that allow them to work on roaming?
The little triangle indicates that the phone is roaming on another network. I believe it's Orange at the moment. It used to be O2 and by 2009 it will be T moblie. I've still had no joy rectifying it anyway (although I am trying!!)
Latest update:
Emailed 3 customer service last night and spoke with them today. The lady told me that there was no way I would ever be able to access the internet on a none 3 branded phone (so God only knows why they sold me the £5 internet option). I explained that I didn't need a free phone or anything off them just a sim only contract that would enable me to access the internet. Having been told that this was absolutely not possible (believe me I tried) I had no alternative but to request a PAC code. I still refuse to believe, however that 3 would turn a perfectly good potential customer away just because he didn't want one of their phones?! It just doesn't make any sense!!! Barring any further developments (hopefully someone on here knows something I don't) I will have to turn to the dark side and go to Orange (

I have an unlocked kaiser. i have a three Payg sim and a contract orange sim.
3sim works fine on net and mail for 3network, on roaming gprs net doesnt work but mail does with same connection.
Orange sim works fine for gprs on both net and mail.

AT&T Tilt using BlackBerry Connect in Canada?

Hi there,
i was wondering if anyone is currently using a Tilt on a BlackBerry connect plan with any Canadian carrier?
I called Rogers and they say they have stopped that service - in their words, if you want to connect to the BlackBerry, use a BlackBerry; otherwise subscirbe to the Windows Mobile plan.
well, the idea is to NOT carry 2 phones.
Another thing that I'd like some help on -
is there a program or some setting that enables a custom media file to be played when I receive an email/sms?
Thanks A Million for helping!
umm..that is incorrect
Rogers still has and uses BBConnect
If you are an AT&T Customer and you roam you should be fine, it will take a minute to re-register you with the BIS server, but past that there shouldn't be any difference
well that's what the Rogers' BB support said over the phone.
I spent an hour getting tossed from and to various depts.
btw, I need to connect to the BES that's hosted in-house;
so - can I just subscribe to any Blackberry plan,
then get BB connect on my own,
and that will enable me to connect to our own BES?
Cheers and Thanks Cohen.

Dial Up Internet question....

Here is an interesting theory I have, and I want to know if it would work, and if so, how would I set it up...
I have a GREAT service providor... They customer service is top notch, I get unlimited TXT, MMS, Voice, and Internet fur under $60 a month including all taxes and fees.. I get free roaming on AT&T & T-mobile towers when I am outside of the "home" area.... But there is one place they are lacking...
Their internet is only a 9.6k connection... So it is painful to surf the web, unless on wifi.. the internet works fine for tomtom traffic updates, update the weather, and, well, that is about it.... Now, thinking WAY back, I used to have a Motorola MPx200 smartphone (still have it actually)... If I remember correctly, at a friends house who lived in an AT&T area outside of my home area, we teathered my phone to his computer and used it as a dialup modem, and if I remember right, we were able to connect at atleast 28.8k or 33.6k.... I know.. not broadband by any means, but a hell of a lot better than 9.6k.... Now here is the question... I spend most of my time outside of my "home" area and usually use AT&T's towers.... Would it be possible to somehow setup some dialup account in my settings to attempt to get a 56kish connection for my phone? That way I could browse the web and such in a little more user friendly way? Is it possible?
Please don't flame me or Einstein and tell me to get a "Real" carrier or drop them for AT&T, etc... As I said, they have great customer service which I appreciate, they only provide UNLOCKED phones to their customers so they can take the phones to any GSM carrier they wish.. They even spent an afternoon with me at one point setting up my Tilt so it works as flawlessly as it can on their network (once I already had it unlocked). I;ve been with them for over 5 years, and not planning on leaving any time soon (plus, where else could I pay this and get everything I am getting????)
Thank in advance for your input on this...
