Finally TI OMAP Overclock tools - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I hv come across this overclock utility for TI OMAP, OmapClock 0.2
I have tried it on DOPOD 818, overclock up to 240MHz, runs without problem. Opening SMS dan File Explorer is now alot faster.
Anyone with TI OMAP processor should have this !!!!
It should run on Smartphone too.

Great find...thanks...

Works brilliantly. Thanks

Impressive! What about CPU temperature?
I'm equally impressed by the speed gains of this little program, but am somewhat concerned about other potential side-effects; like frying the CPU!! :?
Anyway, I'm using 'batti' to keep a close look on the temperature. It's qite a handy little tool.
http://pda.jasnapaka.com/batti/
Please let us all know how you get on with this program over time.
P.S. Does anybody know what temperature should NOT be exceeded by this CPU? Mine is currently at 30 degrees and it was at 24 when I started using the overclocker.

Correct me if i'm worng but the batti app looks like it shows battery temp, not cpu temp? (prehaps your battery temp ahs gone up because you've been holding your pda ;-p)

My Bad! Temp is for battery NOT CPU!!

Your absolutely right!!
Thanks for bringing my attention to this very important point.
Anyone know of an application that accurately shows the CPU temperature?

when i run in 300MHz which Mini S, it will hard reset.. I don't know why

hi minhbu_sg,
when i drive a 90° curve with my car at 100 miles per hour i always have to leave the road just kidding. the reason for hard reset is just of physical nature. you have exceeded the limits of your built-in omap cpu. at 300mhz it does something but not what it is supposed to do. same thing when you have, let's say, a glass of whisky. having one glass of whisky does slightly influence your cpu (brain) and everything you are trying to do is a little bit easier (at least you feel so) but having a bottle of whisky drives you doing things you don't want to do at all.
so keep overclocking you omap moderately and you get the best benefit out of it.

peter

300 mhz
hi
i install this software and i put my device clock to 300 and it stop working.
i try soft reset but it didn't start. and i try to hard reset it also didn't go
please help what should i do.
thanking you in advanced

i installed this on my kjam and worked great with noticeable speed boost, BUT....
when i suspend the kjam, and open it again, the speed goes back to the defauls 180.
is this normal? or something has to be done to enable the speed i choose until the next soft reset at least?

Yes, it's normal - and yes, you would have to use some manner of application to re-start the overclock after a suspend. See also the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40284

Can somebody tell me how to run this program. Im pretty new to all of this and not sure where to install on my qtek s200 and how to run it.
Thanks!

U device (Qtek s200) is a HTC Magican. This forum is about HTC Wizard. Try to look in Magican forum.
People! When wizard is in suspend it runs on 180 mhz? Can we decrease this value in suspend mode?

oh yeah!!! now, my device [818 Pro] run faster @240MHz...it seems as same as XDA Mini...[even better]...thanx!!!
cheers...Oi...!

i'm confused
i'm using a Dopod 818pro,and i already used the omap overclock v.0.2 ... i copied it into my device (not storage card).then i run it on 252Mhz,and set action..so the speed is already 252Mhz and very fast... but i've got some problem, when i turn my device to standby mode, and when i push the power button to sms someone,i check my speed,it went back to 180MHz,is it normal?? cause if it runs under 180MHz,that means it didn't run at 252MHz right????
thanx any way.....

sort of off topic but that batti program is nice...
it's kind of like the battery meter that comes with spb, but better...

Reasons NOT to upgrade to WM5?

I've beat the learning curve and i think i'm now ready to move up to wm5. But first i was wondering if, besides the bluetooth, there are any reasons, for me NOT to move up to wm5?
thanks.
it is a little slower than 2003 but it is more stable than 2003, if bluetooth is not an issue for you try wm5 you will like it, if you not like it you can always downgrade
Its slower than 2003SE, and sometimes you feel like throwing it against a wall....more so than 2003se.
I used my friends HP ipaq, boy that thing flew (2003se) it was responsive with hardware and software buttons..must be using a faster cpu.
so a reason not to is the speed.
do you guys have yours overclocked?
Overclocking?
I do, well, techincally it's vary-clocked. I use Power Hacker which automaticly adjusts the CPU speed as needs be. In idle the CPU sits at 100Mhz and on load it jumps up to 554Mhz with various overclocking on the RAM and such like.
The fact it idles at such a low CPU seems to give me a bit more battery power to make up for the higher drain when in use.
There is a topic about overclocking on the main "Blue Angle" Forum.
As for reasons to upgrade to WM5, to be honest I've forgotten! I think it was just because of a few annoying bugs, like the BT and Wi-Fi connection issues (having to soft-reset the stupid thing everytime I want to reconnect to my home wireless.) and also just because it has a nicer layout.
You know, before my next WM5 flash I might just go back to WM2003SE for a couple of days just to remind myself what's so great about WM5....
the only problem i have w/ WM5 is the keyboard problem. lags sometimes and keys lock

Unfortunately that is for Himalaya 8)
Sorry !!! My mistake.
But is very goood !!!
A speed question.
So i've been playing around with emulators. Mainly morphgear, pocket snes, and pocket nester. To get the best performance out of the blue angel while playing very resource intensive games like legend of zelda link to the past or super mario world, (both with sound), i'm having to overclock.
So i started using pocket hack master, ( phm for the searchers).
The highest i can put my settings without it crashing and to make these games run decent looks like this.
SDRAM clock: 147.50 mhz
pxbus (internal bus) clock: 148.00 mhz
run to turbo multiplier: 2.00
Mem to run multiplier: 2.00
Turbo is 592.00 Mhz
Run is 296.00 Mhz
Now. After looking at all this information my question is how much more resource intensive is wm5 going to be? Will these roms not be able to run reliably? I'm assuming i'm just about topped out, and i'm also assuming that wm5 is going to take more juice. But i'm wondering how significant of a difference i'm facing?
Does wm5 run slower because it's more resource intensive or just slower by defualt? as in the way it's coded?

omapclock v.2 not holding OC in WM6?!

I'm not sure the time refresh but no matter what I overclock the device to it will reset back to default (180mhz) within an hour or less. This happens in both manually in omap software and the startup smartkey.ini. Either way the device will hold the overclock temporarly while the device zips by, but sooner or later it clocks back to 180!
I'm running pdaviet4, how are your experiences?!
The same! CRAP!!!
you guys need to make sure to use omapclockplus for this functionality. When i used it i never had a problem

Using underground edition with omapclockplus occasionally drops the overclock and I need to reset it. But for the most part sticks with it.
The only annoying part is you don't know when it drops untill you need to do something that uses some juice and your device hangs forever
I use battery status to overclock
And it works fine
For some reason smartskey does not work well for overclocking on the wm6 and wm5 AKU3 roms

I agree. I have now disabled OmapClock via SmartsKey and use Battery Status. Seems to work flawlessly.
Andy
yeah same used both and battery status is the best choice for me
This sounds strange to me ! I never had problems with omapclock and smartskey. And I ran it on every rom, including several wm6.
I often use my pda for short periods, but i usually play very long times (call of duty 2 for instance, which needs a lot of ressources to be playable) with no problems. Also tomtom is fluent each time i use it (if i try to use it not OC'd then I can feel the difference)
so for me, so far, no problem with omapclock v.2 and smartskey in wm6

Both Omapclock+Omapclockplus or Omapclock+Smartskey make me default frequency after manual suspend and wakeup (by key press) and overclocked frequency after automatic suspend (by timeout).
Now trying Batterystatus, it seems is able to keep the device overclocked forever. Checking for battery drain.....

same Batterystatus FTW
I want to thank you guys for the battery status tip! its been running rock solid and the battery info is good to know too
As for the overclock i turned off the string in smartskey.ini and let battery status take over. WM6 still seems to reset the clock when the device is in standby (you can notice this real quick when waking the device and notice the Mhz change) but battery status has the option to re-set the clock to the overclock specificed on wakeup. Great little app!
I suppose its a little savior WM6 defaulting the clock in standby... in the end, it saves juice!

overclocking issue

I have just run the omapclock prog and upped my processor speed from 195mhz to 240mhz and the speed difference is really great... the only problem I have is that i have to reset the clock everytime the wizard goes into standby, has anyone remedied this issue yet and if so what do I do?
Gently does it boyz I am a newbie here so no high tech speak please.

there are separate programs that usually help with this. common ones would be omapclockplus, smartskeys, or batterystatus.

Noisy Underclock and RAMdisk

Two random things:
1. Does anyone else hear the noise generated by the cell phone whenever it's screen is on when it's underclocked?
2. Does anyone know if any of the RAMdisks I've seen around here are compatible with the Wing? (I keep seeing "I had to hard reset after this...") I wondered what happened if I put the Volatile cache there.
the noise is generated by the frequency of the processor. This can be solved by overclocking. Its something like the "buzz frequency" or something.
and as to the ramdisks.........what? I don't understand. Sounds like a great idea though.
Yea, a Buzzing. It's kinda funny how it comes from the frequency of the CPU... how does it generate sound waves?
I want to take a few MB's and set it up as a RAMdisk so I can run this:
1. Open a new folder “Volatile” on the SD card
2. Change the following key, using the registry editor:
from \HKLM\System\Filesys TempPath = \Application Data\Volatile
to \HKLM\System\Filesys TempPath = \Storage Card\Volatile
3. Turn off the pocket pc with the power button for about 30 sec (not soft reset/hard reset).
4. Turn it on again.
But instead of the Storage Card, use RAM. It should be much faster. I wonder if that's really useful at all, anyways... lol
oh i get it. I think its a great idea, but the wing/herald has memory problems that wouldn't let you do that with any reliability, no? I've really no need to try it.
I think the processor clock speed is associated with another frequency that is in the range of hearing.

What reliability problem? I have plenty of free RAM. The reason I want it is because my phone has filesys.exe taking all the CPU, killing my battery and somewhat killing my performance. It started when I moved that file and has not gone away since, even if I put it back to normal.

That's freaky and cool at the same time.
oh you moved filesys.exe? I've been tempted, but i would like to know what it does.
That said, try the ramdisk. report back with results?

overclock widget

worked great for a while then kept force closeing anyone haveing problems??
It seems to be working fine for me. One thing is that when I set the clock to 128 or something, the status displayed on the widget still shows 527. The performance is significantly slowed so I assume it's doing it's job.
Overall I think it's a nice little widget. Great for maxing out performance, and maxing battery life by limiting performance.
Phone:
Black G1
JF 1.51
Yup...me too
I will make the change but it sometimes does not refresh the gui. It will also not work if you reboot. (if i remember correctly) also tons of force closes. I am on 6.01 and have tried JF1.5 and am curently on HERO but have not had success with the widgets on the build yet so I dont have a confirmation.
Could someone post the previous version of this app please? The updated version on the market shows "problem loading gadget" on the Hero rom when you add it to the screen..previous versions worked without any problems. Thanks in advance.
edit: nm..fixed it..just had to run the odex optimization script and all is good again
just use SETCPU from market...its more stable thank open overclock......at least it doesnt unclock back to 384mhz
what is a good configeration for over clock..i dotn want to mess up my phone??
I was thinking the same and should I have it on always max. Or what?
I've got mine set to 128Mhz min and 527Mhz max, it has drastically increased my battery life. Batter life barely drops 1% overnight.
Anyone have the Version before the 1.7 update. The new update doesnt seem to work on hero w/ Rosie.
You can grab the 1.6 apk from the Dev's Google Site (check the Files section).
1.7 doesn't work with Ion for me either

Did setcpu support choosing a different freq. when the screen is off? Setting that to 128 - 245 has helped my battery greatly. One question for anyone using OC apps, does your phones at any time run at a lower freq than what's specified as the maximum? I just set my phone to (with the screen on) to 128 - 384 because if I put it all the way to 527 it won't come down (unless I turn the screen off).

1.2.0 does not currently.
I swear, the next version will (I swear!). I'll also add some basic battery profiles (if battery is less than 50%, set the speed to something) and a profile for charging. Of course, it'll always be free here (link in my sig).

Yes. You can usually catch it by doing cat proc/cpuinfo in ADB. It depends on what the phone is doing at that moment.
That's strange it doesn't work well with hero. Since I'm using haykuros adp1.5hr3 it workd beautifully, but the regular overclocker app doesn't even budge and I uninstalled that..idk tho, probably a build issue as far as I'm guessing.

The creator of the original Overclock app hasn't updated his application for even Cupcake build support yet. I thought he removed it from the market.

I have the Overclock Widget and my question is, is it bad for my phone that while my screen is on i have it a min 527 max 527 then while screen off min 128 max 245... I've noticed that phone charges last longer but the useage of going back and forth determental to the phone? Thanks

Thanks, that would be of great help. Specially the battery profile settings. If you could also put a monitor, be it a widget or something on the notification bar it would be beyond awesome, or maybe a just notification of when the speed is changed and to what it was changed to.
Does anyobdy know if this SETCPU works on Hero ?
And must the app be on after i set the clock or can i close the app after ?
*bump* need to know
