Upgrading the Qtek 9100 to I-Mate AKU2 ROMs - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I'm a first-time Windows Mobile owner and I've been mostly enjoying my Qtek 9100 (it was a gift) although I've had some annoyances along the way. I've been trying to work up the courage to upgrade my ROM images to see if I could fix some of the problems, but I wanted to stay with images that were officially released.
Today, I finally took the plunge and upgraded my Qtek 9100 to the new K-JAM images. I figured y'all might like to see how I did it (and how I fared). It's somewhat long -- I like to post thorough, step-by-step write-ups -- so I've not posted the whole thing here. Instead, I put it up on my blog and you can read about it at: http://blogs.3sharp.com/Blog/deving/articles/1261.aspx
I'm happy to answer any questions or answer any feedback you've got.
However, so folks don't think that I'm just trying to drive traffic to my blog, I've attached a copy of the document my Cingular rep sent to me on how to configure my device for the Cingular Blue (formerly AT&T Wireless) GPRS network. I'm finding a lot of folks out there seem to be having trouble finding working settings, so I hope this helps someone else.
However, I have to confess that these steps raise a question for me; they clearly expect you to be able to enter in separate proxy settings both for My ISP and My Work Network. However, on my device I can only enter in proxy settings for My Work Device -- which means I have to configure the connection as my work connection, which means that every time I sync the device I end up overwriting the proxy settings with whatever ActiveSync picks up from the desktop.
Is there some way around this?

Swedish keyboard?
Hello
I just upgraded my Qtek9100 to a i-mate. It works great!
But, is there a way for me to write our swedish special characters on the keyboard? They are printed in blue on up-arrow (A with a ring above), on dot (O with 2 dots above) and page down (A with two dots above). Are there any other way on the Wizard to write special characters?
I can live without being able to press the key where the character is printed, to write it. As long as there is ANY way for me to write them...
Anyone? Thanks in advance!

I *think* you have to have a version of the ROMs that support the proper keymap. Since I'm using English and used an English ROM image, I didn't run into this trouble, so I'm not sure what to tell you.

Some people (including me) have solved it by setting the keyboard locale to norwegian - look here:

I have an english hardware keyboard, so I don't know if this will work on yours, but it may be worth a try.

Predictive text

Hi,
I am using a Qtek 2020i on the Vodafone network and I am having trouble with the predictive text/auto complete. It isn't remembering the new words that I am putting in. Doesn't seem like I can access the dictionary to manually insert the new words and the auto-complete is turned on.
Any ideas?
as far as i know then it's not possible
could be wrong though
in ppc2002 you could take the dic file from office97
and make pocketword use that but with later versions it
became impossible
and it was only for pocketword since it seems outlook and pocketword dident use the same dictionary
why post in off-topic ?
your post is imho pretty on topic maybe for general forum
u can use Kaisoft ABC Editor.net. It does the job.

Kaiser on Softbank in Japan?

Anyone know if this would be possible. I would luv to get this phone. Am using a tytn at the moment on softbank network. Considering purchasing a Kaiser from overseas on next business trip to bring back to Tokyo and give it a whirl.
Thanks,
Theoretically it is possible as the radios and sim cards should be compatible.
However, the Softbank AP for the flat rate data plan has not been cracked. Yet. There are a few people with Treo 750s that are also interested in seeing this password revealed - as well as me. I would like to try the Libra - or perhaps even the Omni or Wings (when and if they debut) if they have the right radios.
If you don't mind paying more for data, then the expensive/slow data connection to Softbank is possible.

Here's the interesting thing. Ordered a Kaiser from UK via DHL (delivered in 3 days!) and today when I stuck in my Softbank SIM, I found that the Kaiser (TytnII) software automatically detected that I was on Softbank and automatically installed the connection settings for Softbank. I am able to surf using that auto configured connection though I cannot confirm this is the connection that uses the flat rate 3G thing. More investigation needed.
There's been tonnes of posts on how people can setup a link using software/hacks/whatever to access the flat rate software package but haven't had enough time to check it out.
At the moment, except a direct HSDPA (as indicated by the icon) internet link, there's no MMS or SMS (!) so I need to figure out why; latter might be because MMS and SMS seems to share the same mailbox now so maybe because I've not setup mms as yet, even SMS won't come in
Boy, why has everything in Japan got to be so complicated...
Auto-configured the connection huh? Cool trick. It should be easy to check.
The access point name of the flat rate connection is open.softbank.ne.jp. I believe the non-flat rate connection is [email protected] (or something like that).
You should be able to check by looking at Settings>Connections>Manage my existing connections, then select edit to view the particulars for the Softbank connection.
As far as SMS/MMS, you hit the nail right on the head. I have had troubles with the integrated SMS/MMS mailbox here in Japan with various ROMs for my Hermes. It might (big might) be possible to overwrite your SMS/MMS software with a previous verson of Arcsoft MMS that has separate mailboxes. That might (again, big might, never tried it before) free up your SMS. If that succeeds, we can get you to try installing MMSlite.
Hi!
I know this is off topic, sorry about that.
But is there a recent 2007 'how to install Japanese support' on a TyTn II?
I have read a lot and some of it is scary !!
Sorry again to jump in on your thread !

Ofiaich - no, no, don't worry about the off-topic post.
And you don't ever need to be scared of modding your phone as long as you have a backup utility. I recommend SPB Backup, but some are fond of Sprite.
The Kaiser is a relatively new device so you are kind of flying blind. However, since both machines run WM6, many of the same packages should be viable. Let's start with the directions found in Make your X01HT a WM6 Device (for Gaijins)
Now time to have your Hermes speak Japanese
Japanese fonts
Use the excellent work from Asukal, that you can find here:
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/LetsJapanNo5.zip
Japanese input
Not using for myself, but these work perfectly (I tried):
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/BagojsINPUT.zip
If you prefer a Japanese input without the annoying "Floating bar", ie just the same input way as your original WM5 Softbank ROM, just downlaod and install the "MS IME31 J" link from Asukal's page:
http://hn801.hkes.com/Data/SIP/IME_31J_QVGA_F.zip
Click to collapse
I believe that these files are generic for WM5/6, and that they should work on any QVGA machine. The picture from Asukal's page shows them working on an Alpine, so they are not specific to Hermes.
The following directions however, might be specific to the Hermes, as they are registry settings for the keyboard. The above packages should actually automatically change the two HKCU registry entries below.
To map properly your Softbank Keyboard, do the following registry modifications:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty] "Layout"= 30411 (Hexadecimal base)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload] "Default"= e0010411
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1] "Default"= e0010411

thanks very much larsuck !

I hope to get a TyTn II very soon ! Saving up and trading old phones etc!
I will read your links again thoroughly and come back to you!

I purchased Kaiser.
There was environment I displayed Japanese, and to be able to beat against Japanese with Atok.
I tested SB in Kaiser with usable ConnSBM_ORE2h.zip, but Password was not formed.
I think that Password is made if I do not understand that I make ORE2cert.cab for Kaiser, and it is possible for this.
Maro,
So, let me just make sure I understand: you have a Kaiser, and that the Kaiser can read Japanese, and that you can input Japanese using third-party software called ATOK.
That is good news for our friend ofiaich.
Now, I understand you tried to install Softbank's flat rate connection set up using ConnSBM.cab, ORE2cert.cab, Out.xml, and WIFIwake.exe, all four of these files being the ones used for the Hermes. (There is also a package for Universal called ConnSBM_ORE2u.zip.)
And you say that you can make a ORE2cert.cab for Kaiser and if you do that then the password will be made?
If that is so, then that is great! But I have a feeling that you don't need a new ORE2cert.cab. The ORE2cert.cab for the Hermes and the ORE2cert.cab for the Universal seem to be the exact same file.

Ok, bit of progress. Can verify that the auto-configured connection (which works fine) is the non-flat rate connection so would strongly advise folks to be careful in using it.
Installed MMSlite and ended up having constant irritating reports that storage memory is full! No way MMSlite can occupy so much memory! Anyway, ended up having to hard reset. Once reset, this time I installed CE Star to provide japanese font support and then installed MMSlite. Worked a treat. Can confirm I can receive both MMS and SMS but at the moment can only send SMS; MMS is no go as that 'special S!Mail' mail box will not allow phone number as destination. I think the S!Mail MMS mail box is configured as a normal email mail box so is expecting an email address or something. Next is to find how to get access to the flat rate connection so time to dig the archives...
Any other fellow Japanese Kaiser users who can share some experiences?
Thanks Larsuck for the comments and tips....

Well, that's a bummer, but as Softcrank keeps their flat-rate settings top top secret, it was also to be expected.

This is how MMSlite normally works, unfortunately. It can't send to phone numbers (or at least I have never been able to do so). However, build 275 has a function that, when you try to send an MMS to a phone number, it looks up the phone number in your contacts list and gives you a list of 'real' email addresses to choose from. Of course, there have been stability issues reported with build 275.
Question here: did your Kaiser have the joined SMS/MMS inbox? Or were the inboxes separate before you installed MMSlite? I have had trouble with the joined SMS/MMS inbox on some Hermes ROMs on Softbank.

Thanks for the info relating to MMSlite; think I have build 275 so could give it a shot I guess.
My Kaiser did indeed have the joined SMS/MMS box prior to installing MMSlite; post-installation they're still joined. What type of trouble did you have just out of curiosity? I've yet to have any issues.
Bummer, thought there existed some means of generating the password etc etc using some really convoluted means of installation in xda forums? So I take it there currently exists no means of accessing the Softbank flat rate connection outside of using the original Japanese mobile? I thought there was a post that would auto-populate the password field after the convoluted setup?
Yes, there is a convoluted process like that. Unfortunately, it depends on an .exe file called WIFIwake.exe that is device specific. There is an .exe for the Hermes and one for the Universal - none for the Kiaser yet. If you would like to try either of those links, they are
here
If you have the knowhow to delve into an .exe file and make the right changes (I have compared the files and there are only two changes to make it seems), I know you will make more than a few people happy. Needless to say, I don't have any idea how to even start editing programs.
I have been searching, trying to find a work around for a couple of months now. At first, I had been looking for the password itself, but I don't know that it is such a good idea for the password to get out. That's what happened before, and in response Softbank closed down that access point and switched to the current one.
So, now I'm looking for a solution in the form of a .cab or registry hack - one that can be used on a wider range of machines. If and when I succeed, I will post to this form and you can give it a shot.
I tried two ROMs with the SMS/MMS joined mailbox. The first one was Black Satin, and on that ROM the SMS wouldn't send or recieve. I didn't even keep that ROM long enough to check MMSlite. The second ROM was T-Lite by edhass. That ROM had no problems sending and recieving SMS, but when I installed MMSlite it created a separate mailbox called MMS1. So, everytime I would go to send a MMS, it would automatically try to send it using the joined SMS/MMS settings and it wouldn't go through. So, it wasn't that it didn't work, it was just kind of a pain in the ass.
Hi!

Patched WIFIwake from Chaimd
Huzzah! Huzzah!
Chaimd has apparently patched WIFIwake to work for Kaiser!
With this, Kaiser users should now be able to get the flat-rate Softbank connection working.
First, here is the thread where Chaimd first posted this info and the patched WIFIwake: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298031&page=11
Read it first, because there is something about CID-unlocking the Kaiser and memorizing the Pre-unlocked CID. I will alert Chaimd to this thread and hopefully he can answer questions.
Thank you, larsuck. I'll try to explain the working WIFIwake.exe on Kaiser, in my terribly poor English.
Now, we can connect to the flat-rate Softbank access point, to patch and sign WIFIwake.exe.
That WIFIwake works copmpletely on my Kaiser. But that method depends on;
Pre-Unlock CID must be known!
CID unlocked, I used Pof's Hard-SPL.
Patching WIFIWake.exe;
01C760h "KAIS1300KAIS1300", 16 chars in UTF-16.
01C784h Pre-Unlock CID, 8 chars in UTF-16.
01C798h Pre-Unlock CID, 8 chars in UTF-16.
Self-Signing WIFIwake.exe
To Install not only connSBM.cab, Out.xml ans WIFIwake.exe,
but also your Self-Signing CAB file.
If you understand Japanese, you can get some informations of Kaiser & WIFIwake in this blog;
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/chai99/20071008
Now if you don't mind me asking, how do you use a non-japanese sim based phone on softbank with a data contract (not technically) but actually like go about it? As i go back and forth between japan frequently and in ~6 months will be moving there again for a year or two. Last time i lived there, I never had a mobile. Times change and now i need one for sure while there. I'd love to use a Kaiser that I have on hold at AT&T (can get it completely unlocked...). I thought they don't give SIM cards on there pre-paid phones...
@Philz,
If you get a cheap phone from softbank with a voice plan, you can use the sim card from that in your Kaiser. If your Kaiser is unlocked, the sim card should allow text and voice without messing with any settings. There is also a .cab program called Carrier Settings Wizard (or some such) that is floating around in the Hermes threads. It might be able to set up the (non-flat-rate) data settings for Softbank.
If you are a heavy data user and want a flat-rate data plan then, after signing up for one, you would need to apply the treatment that we are discussing here. However, from what chaimd says it doesn't sound easy.
Unfortunately, contracts from Softbank are usually for two years - not ideal for someone who is always traveling back and forth. Depending on how long you are in Japan, it might be cheaper just to roam here until you make the move.
@chaimd,
You said you used Pof's tool. Is your Kaiser Super-CID? It seems strange that the CID must be known if the device is Super-CID.
Also, you said:
"5. To Install not only connSBM.cab, Out.xml ans WIFIwake.exe,
but also your Self-Signing CAB file. "
What is this Self-Signing CAB file? Do you mean the patched WIFIwake?
Or perhaps ORE2Cert?
Will the ORE2Cert from the Hermes package work with the Kaiser?
Hi, larsuck! I'm writing on Kiser through the flat-rate Softbank connection, now.
First: Is my Kaiser Super-CID?
Yes, my Kaiser is Super-CID. First, I checked "info 2" command, after the installation of pof's Hard-SPL. As WIFIwake works on my unlocked Treo750, and I jumped and thought "Yes! Super-CID! WIFIwake will work without patches!", ..... but it does'nt generate the password in real. Indeed, it is strange. I was confused.
We tried many many patterns of patching WIFIwake, but WIFIwake did'nt generate the pass, and we spent a few days. Finally, one of us found the right way! and we've got to the flat-rate Softbank connection. We found pre-unlocked CID was known to work WIFIwake on Hard-SPL Kaiser. I don't know why?
2nd: What is self-siging cab file?
The itamae's WIFIwake has already been signed by him to work without a ROM cooking. ORE2Cert, ore-ore-certification means self-sign certification in Japanese, is his signature to allow execute a previllaged code for WindowsMobile devices. But, if you patch the WIFIwake, WindowsMobile rejects it as a illeagal modified code. Then, you must re-sign WIFIwake, and install yor own Self-Sign-Cert.cab with your WIFIwake. You need to make your own Self-Sign-Cert CAB file. ORE2Cert.cab from the Hermes package does'nt work on Kaiser.
I described how to make Self-Sign files without VisualStudio in my blog. It's almost the minimum procedure of self-siging, but it's in Japanese.

Tilt keyboard and Fn+Space function

Hi,
I just got a new Tilt (unlocked of course!), and after using it for a few days I noticed that there is no easy way to type (with hardware keyboard) symbols as it is posible with HTC phones. I mean in HTP branded phones, if you press Fn+Space you can switch between diferent international characteres, but on the tilt that does not work. Any one know how to get the tilt to behabe like the other Kaisers?...
Thanks...
BTW... I have been looking everywhere with no luck, hope someone has a solution...
Exactly my problem. The Tilt works great, but this little problem I also want to fix.
I've founded here the German Input Cab. Yes, that fixes the vowel problem. But then EVERYthing from a german input is given, what means that very many signs you get by pressing function and a button are switched. What I of course do not want. ;-)
So, the best would be to somehow only get an easy access to the vowels.
In the Windows folder there is a file called sym.txt (sym.0415.txt?) in which you have symbols that are written when you press Fn+space.
If you install SDKcerts.cab (maybe some other programs would also help) you can edit/overwrite this file so that it suits your needs.
Master_H, so you where able to have the tilt recognize the Fn+Space?... please let me know how you did it... that is exactly what I'm trying to solve... you mention German Input Cab, with that did you where able to make Fn+Space work?... Thanks!
jfgarciamex, yes, I was able to have the tilt recognize the Fn+Space, with the German Input Cab. But then everything from the German keyboard was taken. When you have a qwerty you will not be happy with this. Like me.
milujciesie, thanks for your hint, that works. You can also do this with other text editors.
My problem now is, that my hardware keyboard doesn't react correctly anymore when I press Fn+Sym. Then just the normal virtual keyboard pops up but not anymore the symbols. I've searched already but couldn't find it: Does someone have the normal (AT&T) input cab? Thanks a lot!
has anyone found a solution? This is driving me crazy. I type a lot in Spanish and I can't get the right characters unless I go into symbols, which is a real pain!
No, I still have no satisfying solution. There are only two options:
- qwerty with a cab that allows quick access to the vowels etc.
- a new keyboard mat with qwertz for german / the fitting one for spanish.
Option 1 would be the best. Isn't there anybody out here who can help us?
Try Tilt keyboard Fix .... search for it
The cab file is almost 6 months old!
yes, dwny, and I know this fix already since I have my Tilt. But that doesn't solve my problem. With the german cab (for qwertz) you can press "a", "Fn" and "Space" and you get an "ä". That's what I want.
i guess nobody types with accents among developers...hehe
My keyboard works well...just missing the Fn+Space combination. I'm wondering if that could be that the sym.txt file is missing? Will search the windows directory and report back..
EDIT 1: I went back and installed the original ATT Rom. Well...it just happens this one doesn't have the Fn+Space combination working either! You just get space. So I see two options: have a non Cingular/ATT layout and be able to use Fn+Space (and go guessing were each of the Fn Characters are), or have the Cingular/ATT layout and have everything work fine, but not be able to put any accents.
I guess someone smarter than most should be able to come up with a new layout...
Solution
You will just have to adapt the file sym.409 und Device\Windows. You just can put behind the letter (f.ex a) what special sign you want in which order (by pressing fn space).
F.ex. for letter a
aäàâ ...
If you need a sym.409 file for a german qwertz keyboard, let me know.
By the way. Your cannot change it through the handy, as the file is signed. You will need to modifiy it and the copy it with totalcommander or gsfinder to the windows directory.

I had this problem with my french keyboard, and i found on this forum the right cab which fixed the problem for me
The thread i used was the following one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345426
Have a look and try, the french cab worked for me while others failed, maybe the spanish cab will solve your problem

Koumala, problem is a different one. You either use the ATT TILT layout with all the FN keys working fine but the FN+Space combination, or, you use a different layout (e.g. English) where the FN+Space combination works, but most FN key are mapped incorrectly. Your proposal to change the sym049.txt file assumes the FN+Space combination works. But that's precisely what we're trying to solve.

If I understand correctly (which I think I do) this is the solution to your problem:
Disable XT9 (KaiserTweak, or directly via your registry), soft reset, et voila..
Fn+Space is back to its old self
Disabling XT9 won't fix the problem. I don't even HAVE XT9 on my phone, and Fn+Space doesn't work.
Furthermore, the sym.0409.txt file in the \Windows folder ALREADY has all the symbols that should be possible using Fn+Space, but they don't work!
I'm also interested in some way to get this to work without losing my other symbol keys, 99% of the time, I'm writing in English, but as santiargy said, that 1% of the time I write in Spanish sucks because I have to go into the symbol pad to get any writing that makes sense done!
Try MagiKB Lite

You are correct - disabling xT9 is not the answer.
Here is one fix - MagiKB Lite. With this keyboard extender, "You can assign up to 4 additional letters to one key, greatly extend its functions". By pressing and holding any key, you can cycle through all letters or symbols assigned to a key, and you can customize the available options for each key, just like sym.txt did for Wizard (and Hermes I think).
I use MagiKB Lite to have ([{ and }]) assigned to their respective keys, en-dash and em-dash added to the hyphen key, backslash added to the forward slash key, and on and on.
For Spanish, you can have n-tilda assigned to n, etc.
I hope this may be a good answer for you.
I am attaching my personal custom layout for the Tilt - you can easily edit it within MagiKBLite to add your Spanish letters.
Remove the .txt from the file, and place it in \MyDocuments\MagiKB Lite. There is also a Treo750v.lay file that you can look at to see how the custom keyboard files are constructed.
for a spanish qwertz keyboard
do you have a sym.409 file for a spanish qwertz keyboard please?
thank you a lot

You will just have to adapt the file sym.409 und Device\Windows. You just can put behind the letter (f.ex a) what special sign you want in which order (by pressing fn space).
F.ex. for letter a
aäàâ ...
If you need a sym.409 file for a german qwertz keyboard, let me know.
By the way. Your cannot change it through the handy, as the file is signed. You will need to modifiy it and the copy it with totalcommander or gsfinder to the windows directory.

Can you "draw" letters on the Diamond?

Anyone know if that works? Or do we simply have the on-screen-qwerty-keyboard?
Click on the Keboard button so you get a list of QWERTY etc. Pick other input methods . You will find what you need in here . eg Block Recogniser , transcriber etc
What I'm asking for is:
Can I use the pencil and "draw" letters that then become words like I can on SonyEricsson P1i
Yes, Transcriber and Black/Letter recogniser do just that.
Is that a program you need to install or is it included in the box? I can't get it to work...
What do you mean you can't get it work? Because by asking whether is included or not I suppose you haven't found where it is.
Well, try writing a text message. Click on the small arrow on the bottom of the screen right next to the keyboard icon. It should pop up a window mentioning the different keyboards the diamond has (phone keyboard, compact qwerty, full qwerty etc..) At the bottom of this list there is another arrow pointing right called other input methods. Click on it and then you get a new scroll down list with the options that were mentioned before: transcriber, block recognizer, letter recognizer etc. Choose letter recognizer for example and go back to the screen where you are supposed to type the text message and you will see at the bottom of the screen the area where you are supposed to "draw" the letters.
Furthmore, read the manual...
I think this is quite detailed
CarpeNoctum:
Thank you, thank you, thank you
I will try that once I get back from work and have my Diamond in my hands again

Just a heads up...
The transcriber in the Diamond, isn't as good as the one in the SE P series.
I was a bit disappointed. (I am used to the P series.. )
Another option would be - in HTC Diamond - to use Letter Recogniser.
Yeah, you can't write just anywhere on the screen with that (you have a line at the bottom, where you may DRAW - as you say - your letters and have them displayed..)
Personal view.. Letter Recogniser works better than the transcriber.
All the best
Is it possible to recognize a handritten note later after writing it. I mean i have old notes from an older device with handwritten letters. Is there a way I can make my diamond recognize them as letters ?

True.. Actually the Letter Recognizer works quite well for me.
transcriber works over the whole screen, only the block recogniser has a line to draw under.
Hmm i have neither block recognizer or letter recognizer on my danish 1.37. Is there some reg stuff to do to enable it? (and yes, i have looked the right places, only have the 3 htc keyboards and the standard ms full keyboard)

Same here
It should be simple enough for soemone clever enough to make up a cab file for Transcriber.
For example Bepe has taken it out of his ROM so I suspect could easily repackage it as an optional cab for anyone to use.
Just a thought.
I don't have any recognition neither... I can just type, not draw letters to be recognized
Also missing in my Danish Rom
Also missing in my Dutch rom.

No, you need a program like phatpad to do that.
http://www.phatware.com
Also while you're there, look at Calligrapher 8.6
no luck here either
Also missing on the Swedish 1.37 original rom. These kind of small missing things pisses me off, looking around in the menues for hours with no luck, but I am sure there will be some fix for it somehow.
Any news on this? Also from Sweden here and no transcriber...

Boring issue in more than one of the presented rom's

Hi all,
I have flashed some of the ROM's provided here and am seeing an issue which might not disturb many, but disturbs me.
I am a Dutch guy living in Russia, but not willing to accept either Russian or Dutch as a normal language. For me English is the only acceptable language for a ROM. On the other hand, numbers, currency, date and time are favourite to be "Dutch" again.
If I download a WWE or ENglish ROM (as I downloaded an Energy ROM now) I get the English language, so far so good.
But when I try to install the following format for numbers 1.000.000,00 (same for currency) I am told that the character to divide between full numbers or parts cannot be changed to "," or worse between each three digits I cannot place a ".".
Is there a way to change this in registry, so I can change this anyway, even if the regional setting does not allow this ?
Just to make sure You understand me, if I choose for Dutch regional settings, all looks fine, but Calendar or some programs are immediately "talking" Dutch to me, something I dislike again. Sunday should always be Sunday on computers (even if I do understand Zondag)
Any help would be appreciated.
Ruud
When you change to a non-English regional setting, like Dutch, it automatically changes the names of the months and days (and a few other related things) into the language for that region. That's what you're seeing. You can still keep those in English and get the other settings you want, but the settings have to be entered in manually.
To do this, start with one of the English regions that's closest to what you want. Then, you can change all of the other settings to what you expect. For the command/period problem with long numbers, you have to type in the command and period. They will not be in the drop down. Also, you'll need to adjust the order of month/day/year, etc. to what you expect it to be.
I just tried it on my phone to be sure it would work. For your reference, it should be exactly the same process to do it on your computer running Windows.
Also...
I don't know about anyone else, but I thought it was an interesting question. But that's probably just because I have to deal with localization and internationalization in my regular work.
Hello fenux,
thanks that my boring issue is interesting for somebody
But , this does not seem to solve the issue for me.
I have the Energy Rom at the moment I have chosen the Dutch regional settings, as they are what I need for numbers or at least I can change it to what I need.
As for testing your proposal I change the regional settings to English (United Kingdom) so I would get the Englisch language. I go to "numbers" and try to change the "," to a "." not by using the dropdown menu, but by using the keyboard instead. New character is not accepted. Tried to do the same through the software keyboard, same result.
Actually that was why I asked if I can change such in the registry somewhere.
Any more ideas maybe ?
Regards,
Ruud
I'm not sure why it's not letting you change them. I did find this page (http://www.pcoperative.com/ppc/registry_tweaks.htm#Override Date & Time Format) which includes some of the information on where the override information is stored. But it doesn't include changing the decimal and thousands separator.
Here are the settings for those, taken from my registry after I overrode them:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls\overrides]
; Decimal for normal numbers
"SDeci":","
; Digit grouping (thousands) for normal numbers
"SThsn":"."
; And for currency
"SMDcS":","
"SMThS":"."
Hi fenux,
interesting information, I will play around with those. It is visible that some of those strings are not available after chosing a certian regional setting, but I can add them. I will see if I can get to solve my issue with this.
Yes, this looks perfect on first try, thank You VERY much.
regards,
Ruud
Now if You can answer me another question: what is the most stable and fastest ROM around here, I really need it.
I've had good luck with the 21885/Sense 2.1 version of EnergyROM (not as many extras as the other versions, but it's stable and fast). I'm working on my own that fits my needs a little better, but it's nowhere near ready for public use.
Hi fenux,
I am sorry if unclear, but that last sentence was supposed to be more of a joke.
But of course thanks for the answer anyway.
When I downloaded the Energy I made some mistake and took the 28011 instead. When I tried to download the other I was made to understand that there is a time limit, so I did not bother anymore. I like the ROM itself, very nice, but am actually downloading the 21885 at the moment. Reason is that my AlarmMaster 2.0 does not work anymore, as soon as an alarm is supposed to ring, the display is being switched on and the program hangs. The program is too important to me, so I have to change here.
This was my line before editing : I very much like the Action and OK button on the lower part of the screen, so I use the Sense 2,5 version.
But : after a succesfull flash I noticed that actually that ROM does not include the Action and OK buttons below. It also does not have any issue with the regional settings at all. I will continue to install all programs (as I lack time for playing) and hope / presume this ROM to be stable.
Thanks again.
