Hi All,
I am considering upgrade from 1.6.7.1 to 2.16.9.101. The only think that still hold me is backup of my sms messages.
My question is - Is there are way to back up sms messages without any backup SW (e.g. spbBack etc.)?
I know from Outlook that it holds all its mails in single file, which I can just copy to DVD and after fresh install import. I suspect that it should be the case with Pocket Outlook as well. And as long as SMS are part of Pockect Outlook, they should be kept in the same file. Where is that file and can I replace it after new ROM installation?
Thanks in advance
helo there, brother.. am here with a solution for ur problem and yet, another question aswel..
u can use jeyo mobile companion 1.1 to backup all ur sms's.. i use this to backup my sms if i hardreset my fone or reflash my rom.. really useful software.. hope this helps..
now heres my question, jeyo mobile companion doesnt allow me to back up sms's in folders, ie, i have a specific folder in my inbox for the sms my girlfriend sends me.. but wen i do the backup with jeyo mobile companion, it does not backup the msgs in the folder.. i'l hav to move the msgs to the inbox folder b4 i backup and after i restore them, i hav to move them bak to folders.. so i wud like to kno an application that would backup sms and folders as well.. thanx in advance
Well,
Your proposal is solution, however not exactly into the direction I am looking for... jeyo usage means that I have to use third party SW to backup my SMS messages and restore them afterwards.
So let me repeat what I want to do:
1. Take from my PPC file where all my SMS are stored (using file explorer and Active Sync);
2. Save this file to my laptop;
3. Flash ROM;
4. Replace new, empty file created by fresh Pocket Outlook on PPC with mine.
If somebody can tell me how to perform that sequence it will be really appreciated,
Thanks in advance
I guess they are in the root of the mobile device.. one of those .vol files maybe? You could try these files. (After you've secured your sms-messages with a third-party program of course - as a temporary solution)
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately I am not able to copy any of those files (cemail for instance). I have got the message "Cannot copy "cemail". There has been sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."
I suspect that this file is already locked by some system applications running. Any ideas are welcomed,
Regards

With spb backup you can backup only your contacts, E-mail and SMS messages if you want to, works great. I have mine backing these up every night in case of crash.
I found if you use the file explorer in the mda to copy everything to a mini sd card you overcome the "sharing violation" error.

I want to try summiters new 2.3 rom, however, i have been flashin my cingular 8125 about 3 times a week, and im sick of setting it up from scratch each time. is there something out there or can you tell me what files i need to back-up to maintain settings for:
-what speed dials are assigned
-voice dials i have saved
-my tcpmp settings
-my browser cookies so i dont have to relog in to all my porn sites
-my settings for what alert tones to use and when to use them
is it possible to back any of that crap up and restore it after a new flash? thanks pimps!
Bah, no responses. I was hoping that there was a "backup my settings" app
WELL if you are using the same rom version each time which idont think you are. then spb backup is the way to go
i mean it costs a little and you can backup your sys data as well as your settings txt msgs and **** like that. Now if you upgrade to a different rom version everytime then its not likely that you will want to back up system data as it could screw up your wm5 and then you have to reflash again.
theres also sprite too but never tried it
tried spb and it doesnt work that great. it almost works perfectly but it doesnt hmm i might retry it tho cuz i think you can specify what **** to backup
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
I've got SPB too, but I've never reflashed. Under the Custom Backup you can choose 4 things-PIM, Tasks, Email & System Data. Does anybody know if it can use everything but the "System Data" setting to restore the PIM, tasks & email after a ROM upgrade? Would it save the registry changes too? Thanks.

yes u can restore the 3 things but not the registry because it is saved on the "System Data" portion of the backup.
and gizm0luvsu is correct if you restore from a full backup it will revert the rom [os] to the one u made de backup regardless of the rom you have currently.
You can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Create backup of windows\start menu - most programs that are on the storage card dont need a reinstall.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information. After flash change the new pim.vol to pim.vo and copy and paste old pim.vol (use total commander or gsfinder file explorers for this) and soft reset and you will have info back.
Create backup of windows\favorites - for all your internet favorites.
That will make restore a bit quicker than otherwise.
thanks meschle, thats what i was looking for!
Is it possible to create a *.reg file like you would in windows that can just be executed on your device importing all you registry changes. I'm not talking about a full backup...only a file that says change this value, change that value, add this dword, etc.
Possible?
Yes you can use the export function of phm reg editor (or others) of the keys you wanted to save and restore them later.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've searched the forums and google for an answer, and haven't found one:
I've gone to the PHM website: http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Went to download, but I don't see a version for the OMAP processor and/or Windows Mobile 5 (WM5).
I tried using their MSI windows installer version, but when it launched ActiveSync's Add / Remove programs, PHM wasn't listed as an available application to install.
Which version do I download for use on the 8125?
Thanks, Mike

Thanks Dark, works like a champ, or rather like a registry editor champ
Hello,
incredible but true, on my P3600 "Messages" would not run any more.
I cannot access the whole Messages software (inbox, draft,...): no sign of life clicking on the icon (the envelope), neither from Start->Programs->Messages nor from SPB Phone Suite.
Calendar and Notes in Pocket Outlook continue working well.
So now I cannot access to email nor SMS.
When I send an SMS from another mobile to my P3600, I see the P3600 screen becoming active (only the brightness) but no notify message appears. It seems that the Messages software doesn't load in memory any more even if I click the "tmail.exe" file in file Explorer
I am using WM5 (with official ROM) and in last days I have upgraded Pocket Plus to 4.0.1; I also use other SPB software as Phone Suite (1.1.1), Weather, ...
Unfortunately there are no changes removing Pocket Plus
Anyone faced a problem like this?
Thank you
Are you storing attachments on the miniSD?
Yes
the SD (Sandisk 2GB) seems to work
do you know how to modify the settings? I couldn't reach them because they're in Messages.
thank you
I'm not sure if that's the cause of your problem, but my Mail directory got corrupted once and messaging refused to start, like it happens to you. Try to rename the directory to Mail_ so that messaging recreates the dir again. You can change the attachment storage location on the messaging options.
thank you Apoc,
anyway yesterday evening I made an hard reset. I have tried to install a backup but the problem arose again so I decided to re-install all without backup.
I take your advice for the next time...because re-installing all I had on my P3600 there is a chance to face the same problem soon
thank you, really
I have same problom...
Please help

Did you try to run mailaccountrepair? You can download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328467&page=2

This worked for me. Thanks!!
Did you store the messages' attachment on SD?
if you haven't fix the problem with mailaccountrepair, you could try formatting the miniSD (first copy all the files on your PC).
I have read this advise on another forum
It seems that it could be a problem of corruption of the attachment stored on SD.

I try to make a list of action from the Apoc's advice:
1. Using file explorer, rename the directory (probably on your SD) where Messages store the attachments (from "Mail..." to another name)
2. soft-reset
3. try to access Messages again (the envelope icon in Programs)
4. if Massages opens, it will create a new directory named "Mail..." in which the attachments will be stored, but you will not have the old attachments in Messages
Then you could try to copy the files that are the dir you have renamed to the dir that Messages has just created
if Messages doesn't open, try mailaccountrepair (as written by emay) or hard-reset (as I did)
Hi
I want to transfer the SMS's text messages on my HTC Touch to my HTC Diamond. I have look on various forums and tried various software OEExporter & SMSexporter but no luck.
HTC's website says 'It can't be done at the moment' but is it possible & how?
Please if can anybody help!
Try to save your cemail.vol on Touch and restore it on Diamond
To save your cemail.vol on Touch, try to move temporarely your .vol on internal storage (see my post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411087) and for restore on Diamond, try to do the same before copy it
Just delete or rename the registry key to "restore" the original location
Good Luck

Just use PimBackup 2.8 from this site. Export the sms on your touch and import them on the diamond.
TDO
Be carreful, Pimbackup just export SMS, not MMS (pb with attachement)
But Pimbackup is the best solution to do this
To restore attachement with "my method", just restore Windows\Attachment and My Documents\UA Caontent directories (from Touch to Diamond)

Hi,
I've successfully used the mentioned reg key, to move the DbPath to another location or file name. Than I've copied back a cemail.vol to the original location. However, it never shows the SMS in my old cemail.vol.
Reason is:
I've made an ROM upgrade from original (slow) T-Mobile ROM to the latest Dutty, posted here in the forum.
I've made a backup of the device before that using SPB. It created an .exe backup and I've extracted the cemail.vol out of it.
I'm deadly missing my old SMS that should be stored in the cemail.vol, right?
Can someone help me to retrieve all those SMS from my cemail.vol (if it's in there?)
Thanks a lot guys - I've been trying since two days now
Regards,
J
i recommend using Jeyo Mobile companion, PimBackup didn't seem to save my threading on the SMS
And it also does contacts, emails etc etc
i was wondering how can i save my sms on my pc
please somebody help me in this ??
Use PIM Backup if you want to restore the messages back to your phone later.
If you just want to make an archive (so that you can open and read them in your PC), there is a tool called EasyHelper Contact+SMSBackup. It will export your messages to a text file for archivation, however it didn't support threading last time I used it, you may have better luck and find some alternative.
thnx bro
i will try this
my ppcpimbackup showed that i have 129 contacts when restoring, but only manage to restore 29 contacts back into the phone. does anyone know how i can retrieve the file from the backup? or does anyone know how to fix this backup. i am using energyrom phoenix. anyhelp would be much appreciated!

Did you upgrade the ROM recently?

yes, i upgraded to energyrom phoenix. but im nt using tf3d at all! i disabled it for spbmobileshell
My bad, it's not sense PIMBackup has problems with.
It's Windows Mobile 6.5. There are numerous threads here on XDA reporting problems with PIMBackup.
But then again, the program hasn't been updated in two years, it a little outdated and problems are to be expected at some point.
I suggest you revert to an older ROM, and backup your contacts using something like MyPhone from Microsoft, or sync it to outlook.
These will definitely restore your contacts when upgrading to a newer ROM.
Or, if you do not want to revert: you can extract the contents of the PIMbackup file, rename the extension from pib to zip. Inside you will find all your backuped info, including a file with all contact info. I'm not sure how you can use it tho.
Might want to make sure that your SIM contacts are not hidden. If not all of the contacts were on-phone contacts by default Energy has his SIM contacts hidden. You should be able to go into Start/Tools/Tweaks/TouchProTweak

i did that. i read that its actually a zip file. and after extracting it, i can use excel to edit the information inside. but the problem comes in here. when it is extracting the contacts file, they said its damaged or corrupted. guess thats where the problem came in.
If the file is really damaged it's a showstopper.
Is excel telling you the file is damaged? I made a backup myself and although I can open the file in excel there is a lot of jiberish I cannot use for extraction.
You can try and open it in a simple app like notepad or wordpad.
The real contact info is scattered around the file contents, but you might be lucky and extract the most of it.
