Pairng XDa2i with Holus gr231 gp reciever - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

HELP
I'm having trouble pairing the above. I can see the holux, and using holux gps viewer, it works just fine, but when I try to pair the devices as required by tt5, it just tells me authenticationn failed. I've tried using no passkey, the 0000 passkey, and one other pin that I may have set up a while back (I tried tt3 some time ago, it never worked successfully, so the reciever has been in a draw for a while) though I think that that's unlikely. None of them work.
ROM version - 1.11.00wwe
Radio version 1.04.00

I have a holux gr-230 and the manual shows a passkey of 6268 so give that a go.

That's it. Many thanks. I'm gonna have to go back and read the manual again for a sanity check - I don't have it here, but I looked through it the other night and couldn't see it.
Cheers

TT5 + Bluetooth..........again.

I asked it before, so here I go again.
For 4 weeks now I'm trying to get f.... TT5 working on my wizard,I'm using a nokia LD-3W receiver. I've tried all the comments, suggestions, tweaks available on this site, but it's still not working.
Who can help.
Everything is connecting, pairing etc. Also other available Gps software is not able to connect to this receiver. Again the question: what to do next.
......Stupid enough I even bought the official software...
what isn't it doing?
does it load at all?? does it not see the BT GPS reciever?? does it not find the maps/voices?
The receiver is paired and connected either to com 6 or 7. I also tried the GPS settings.
TT5 is starting and running, but it's not connecting to the receiver, although it blinked (blue) when pairing. Also it worked twice for several days but decided to stop working again. Because I expected this I backed-up the registry (when it was working) and restored it, nothing.
I updated my ROM in any version available, also nothing.
Is there a registry setting I missed ? Or something else I didn't do ?
have you set the phone to have an 'Incoming Port' for the GPS on 6 or 7?

Yes there is! While hooked up to your pc using a/s 4.2, go to explore>windows mobile device>program files>navigator ,and copy the navigator .cfg file to your desktop. Now open it with WORDPAD (NOT NOTEPAD), and change the com port to whichever one you used earlier (com 6 or com 7) and copy it back to the device folder (navigator) that you copied it from.
I did that and it works perfectly.......P.S. I found that post using a remarkable little item called "search"......LOL
But really, try this...it works.
Later....... 8)
Did that and Tried that, also found that, like I said before I tried almost everything I found in this forum.
TT5 is setup for the same port as the gps is setup in comm manager. Everything looks like ist should work, it even did 2 times.
The receiver even reacts when I pair it, but it doesn't when tt5 is connecting with it.
Would be nice if one of you experts could help me with this
Don't know if the wizard works in the same way as the universal, but try switching your phone on before starting tomtom. I spent ages trying to get my universal to work before spotting this hint on o forum somewhere. Also give it a minute or two to work.
Hope this helps.
TT5 + bluetooth
make sure you have the following set:
1. GPS icon has to be enabled in settings (look for the reg tweak)
2. Use the #1 to select WM5 to manage GPS automatically.
3. Make sure to set "outgoing port" if you GPS is on 6 set the port to 7
4. In tomtom select port 7.
5. Make sure you're using TT 5.21 or above.

Cranny, I'm not English so maybe I understood your post in correct. If not.........
Gene, yes I did this also, this also doesn't help. I think the receiver is not ok but I need to find some way to prove that. It is pairing, therefore connecting but not starting if I switch on and connect TT5.
Could it be it's stuck in a powersave mode or something ?

GPS connection problem

I have TOMTOM installed on my phone along with GPS test and Quick GPS Now all of these apps are designed to point a COM 4 with a baud rate of 4800 but lately none of them have been able to get a steady signal it is able to pick up the sattelites but not able to get a fix on them. Any ideas?
i've experienced this as well and i found a few solutions to get a fix using tomtom6.
First you may want to upgrade your radio, try searching for the niki radio thats in my signiture.
Next, open quickgps then open tomtom. once both applications are open download on the quickgps application.
Then go back to TT it should be working thereafter.
You may also want to have assisted gps enabled. You can find that feature on the latest version of KaiserTweak or AdvancedConfig. if you are using 19199 rom from dutty AdvancedConfig should be under system tools.
have a good day.
I didnt think that I would be able to use that radio considering i live in the UK. I have d/l the newest gps data and tried that method previously but with no luck. It used to work with this setup but one day just stopped getting a fix

I'm trying to download QuickGPS update via ActiveSync but it doesn't seem to work properly. It's written "Connection Failed. Try again later". I've got no idea what is going on.
Can anyone help me out?

What I did was this: Go to Settings->Connections->USB to PC and uncheck "Enabled advanced network functionality". It worked for me after that
gps signal
I've been having horrible gps fixing problems since I got my phone it was taking up to 10 mins or more to get a fix for every gps program I used until a couple of days ago. I started using garmin xt and my phone went into sleep mode after a min I turned the power back on right after the screen went black and I had fixes on at least 6 satellites. I've tried it again this time I as soon as the program I'm using turns on the gps I powered the phone off then turned it back on and I got gps fixes in at least a minute. I've tried this only a few times from cold starts so give it a try. So far I've tried it with Iguidance 3, htcgpstool, garmin xt, google maps and its worked with all of them. Hope this helps.

[SOLVED] GPS has stopped working - wtf is going on...?

Over the last few days I have noticed that my GPS is not really working anymore. I'm not sure if this is a result of some software I've loaded or whatever, but I've noticed a few people saying that they are no longer locking onto satellites and noone is really sure what they've done - although there is a thread about the new Clove extended battery and many have mentioned that it stops the GPS from working.
I'd like to get everyone who is having problems to post here please so we can try and work out what the cause is. Some have speculated that it could be the radio but I don't think it is, I've flashed every single radio available with no change...
When I first got my diamond, I was IMPRESSED at the speed and accuracy of the GPS. I would get locks in around 10-15 seconds and using TomTom 7 I found it to be extremely accurate with regards to my position on the map.
Now it SUCKS. The other day I drove and it took 18 minutes to get a fix. When it finally did I estimate it was between 50m - 100m inaccurate. Some kind of lag is going on.
As of the last two days, I cant even seem to track ANY satellites. Since then, like I mentioned I have tried every radio and still the situation remains bad.
- I'm running a cooked ROM based on the 1.93.xx.x. (Elite 3.0)
- Current radio is .11 which seems to work well for my push email. (.05 worked well too) Other than that over the last couple of days its just been push email, a few texts and calls and really nothing else special I'm doing with the device.
Can anyone having the same problems please post here with your ROM version and let us know what your experiences are.
Thanks.

No.. Its just the GPS data thats used by the gps to get a quicker lock on the satelites.. Which then only saves you time.. It does not cost you anything besides the trafik it uses to update the data..

gps is for free, the "4 days" corresponds to the time which your device
has the almanach data for faster satellite lock in it's memory. after this time
quickgps will download the alamanach data for the next 7 days, and so on...
if you don't use this feature you still can use gps, but obtaining a fix will
take you a longer time!

Please look at my post at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408560
I have noticed that it is also dependent on the Rom. I am into flashing different roms and have seen different behaviour of Gps with each rom.
But HARD reset is a must after each flash.
Let me know your findings.
Got my GPS working in TomTom..
Steps i took:
1: change in PPC the gps port to COM6 - So still at Baud 4800
2: TomTom - Gps configure - "Other NMEA GPS reciver" - Baud 4800 - "COM6"
3: Closed TomTom
4: changed in PPC the GPS port back to "COM4" - still baud 4800
5: TomTom - Gps configure - "Build in gps"
And done.
I have this problem- the GPS seems to get worse and worse after a hard reset or rom upgrade to the point where it won't lock on at all.
I have noticed that in TT7 a number of satellites are being found (in the gps menu)but they are greyed out. Despite this it just won't lock on however long i leave it.
I notized that I was sometimes unable to track any satellites because I swiched on "A-GPS" in the registry with some kind of editor. After switching it off the problem was gone.
Greetz
Yes, Advanced Config destroy your GPS if you use it to turn on A-GPS.
Try reflashing the Radio with the same build as you are using already. It resets the GPS and did the trick for me.
How can you turn on A-GPS in the registry? Which key is it?
I have the same problems: when I use the GPS, it finds some satellites and not, and back it finds them, and not. When I use tomtom 6, the screen turns grey and colored every 5 sec., because it finds the satellites and not.
Sometimes it works good, but mostly not.
Can somebody help!!!

There is a little tool which is called "HTC GPS TOOL(S)", dont remember the exact name.. there you can search for satelites using the "cold start" option.. when some satelites are found, then push the "Nav. Init." buttion", dont close the program, just start TomTom and se if it did lock? .. Some reported this method working..

I did things a little differently to yourself, but certainly your general method has solved the problem!
Firstly, and I don't know if this is a result of the radio version I'm running but I only have COM4 and COM7. Running radio .11
Secondly, within TomTom I simply configured the GPS, I changed to other NMEA receiver, selected COM4, and Baud 4800, and then within about 10 seconds, I had a lock. This is after days of not getting a lock at all.
Restarted TomTom, switched back to 'Internal GPS Receiver' and almost instantly locked again.
Problem solved!
I had done many ROM updates and not noticed this effect, I believe now thinking back this must have been a direct result of updating the radio only from version .03 to .05
I will update the thread title.

GPS not working after 6.1 upgrade

I used the 6.1 upgrade posted here the other day -
ROM version: 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date: 07/17/08
Radio version: 1.65.21.18
Protocol version: 25.88.40.05H
Everything has been working great except for GPS. I downloaded Google Maps and it worked previously with the 'Managed by Windows' option selected, but I cannot get a connection now. It just sits there with 'Seeking GPS satellites (0) ... " and does not connect. If I manually select COM4, it times out after a while and says "No GPS receive was found. yada yada yada."
I know the final official ATT rom uses a different radio version (1.65.17.10) and protocol version (25.83.40.02H). Would this effect the GPS? Should I load the official ROM instead of this one? Or can I just flash the radio?
Here with the same problem but if you try to download it from htc.com you still get RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_3.57.502.2_radio_sign_25.88.40.05_1.65.21.18_Ship could just be an old image that they have put in by error. and i used TOMTOM 7 as well and still no gps. Ill try different radios later 2 see what happens. Will post if any help
Thank you. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I did finally get Skyfire, so I will console myself with that.
(everyone can get it this week with "Michael8" btw)
I upgraded my Tilt, and I am not having any problems using the GPS. Have you tried using the HTC GPS Tool to see if it can get access to the GPS unit?
Oops. I just noticed that you didn't install the ROM that came directly from AT&T. I used the official ROM and haven't had any problems.
It is possible that a difference in the radio could affect the use/performance of the GPS. I would still try the HTC GPS Tool first. If you haven't used it before, it will display all the satellites that your unit sees and their signal strengths.
Thanks, I'll go find that an install it. I've tried Windows Live Search, Google Maps and TrackMe, and none work so far. If I can't figure out it out by tomorrow I may just flash the 'official' ROM. I'd love to try one of the cooked ROMs, but work fries my brain enough as it is.
I use i'nav on my phone.
I had to change the com port to 4 then it worked again.
I've tried manually setting com4, but that still won't work.
I installed the HTC GPS tool, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. When I hit 'Open' it scrolls lots of stuff, but nothing ever pops up on the Satellite tab. :/
If you have Advanced Config or Kaiser Tweak, try turning off Assisted GPS.
thank Valtamr.. tried it both ways. Assisted GPS was off by default, tried turning it on, no go, turned it back off.
well i did download the official rom
Is it work properly now?
Gah, I hate having to load all my apps and customizations back on again.
well i didnt download any other just the official one and i got the problem

If you hate reloading everything as much as I do....you owe it to yourself to check out SASHIMI:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392983
I flash quite a bit, and let me tell you, SASHIMI is a life saver. It'll bring back your apps and settings very quickly (and even set up your email accounts if you build an XML with it's included tool). Bengalih also has great documentation for it (as well as video tutorials).
Thanks Val. I've seen SASHIMI mentioned before. Watching the YouTube vid now.
SASHIMI looks excellent. I think I've got everything setup w/it. Guess I'll try loading the ROM from HTC's website and see how it goes.
reinstalled the ROm now gps works. Try it might help you 2
Yup.. just reinstalled from the file available @ HTC.com
ROM: 3.57.502.2 WWE

GPS unable to connect

hi,
I'm a ROgers diamond user.
tomtom 7 is installd, and it always ask me if i'm inside a building.
i check with GPS status in tomtom, same thinh, ( are you inside a building) poor gps reception...
i was outside tryin to connect...i wonder if someone got this issue.
thank you,
Usually when TomTom says, "poor reception, are u in a building" That tells me that it has been configured properly and it's searching for a signal.
Couple of things...
1) in Configure (found under change preferrences///show GPS Status)
• select built-in GPS receiver (this will automatize the config)
2) update QuickGPS
3) Try the above first .....next step is to HardSPL your device first and try and another Radio.
I'm currently using 1.08.25.20. I also had 1.00.25.08 and this worked fine for GPS as well.

I'm using 1.00.25.06 - HardSPL would not break my current rom ?
i ran into the same problem a while back
but as i was planning an update anyway, i did a hard-reset, installed new hard-spl and updated rom and radio
works like a charm again
if it ever occurs again, i'll do the same process... having the latest updates is always good
search for "htc gps tool"
some other weird thing is when I'm in my home town (or near my house) it seems my tt7 gets a quicker fix than otherwise I'm further away from home...

thats the main tool ...thx a lot
other thing i´ve read that have worked is to try to change the receptor gps in the Tom tom configuration to:
Other GPS NMEA / 4800 / com4
I had the same problem. My GPS has been working fine since I disabled A-GPS.
i have the same problem........and i have found why. It was because i have changed the battery 900m Ah to an 1800 mAh....
with the larger battery, it was unable to have a fix.......and when i replace the little battery....all become in order.....( and i have the same issue with all roms i tried (general and radio)).....
I haven t found solution
