TT5 + Bluetooth..........again. - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I asked it before, so here I go again.
For 4 weeks now I'm trying to get f.... TT5 working on my wizard,I'm using a nokia LD-3W receiver. I've tried all the comments, suggestions, tweaks available on this site, but it's still not working.
Who can help.
Everything is connecting, pairing etc. Also other available Gps software is not able to connect to this receiver. Again the question: what to do next.
......Stupid enough I even bought the official software...

what isn't it doing?
does it load at all?? does it not see the BT GPS reciever?? does it not find the maps/voices?

The receiver is paired and connected either to com 6 or 7. I also tried the GPS settings.
TT5 is starting and running, but it's not connecting to the receiver, although it blinked (blue) when pairing. Also it worked twice for several days but decided to stop working again. Because I expected this I backed-up the registry (when it was working) and restored it, nothing.
I updated my ROM in any version available, also nothing.
Is there a registry setting I missed ? Or something else I didn't do ?

have you set the phone to have an 'Incoming Port' for the GPS on 6 or 7?

Yes there is! While hooked up to your pc using a/s 4.2, go to explore>windows mobile device>program files>navigator ,and copy the navigator .cfg file to your desktop. Now open it with WORDPAD (NOT NOTEPAD), and change the com port to whichever one you used earlier (com 6 or com 7) and copy it back to the device folder (navigator) that you copied it from.
I did that and it works perfectly.......P.S. I found that post using a remarkable little item called "search"......LOL
But really, try this...it works.
Later....... 8)

Did that and Tried that, also found that, like I said before I tried almost everything I found in this forum.
TT5 is setup for the same port as the gps is setup in comm manager. Everything looks like ist should work, it even did 2 times.
The receiver even reacts when I pair it, but it doesn't when tt5 is connecting with it.

Would be nice if one of you experts could help me with this

Don't know if the wizard works in the same way as the universal, but try switching your phone on before starting tomtom. I spent ages trying to get my universal to work before spotting this hint on o forum somewhere. Also give it a minute or two to work.
Hope this helps.

TT5 + bluetooth
make sure you have the following set:
1. GPS icon has to be enabled in settings (look for the reg tweak)
2. Use the #1 to select WM5 to manage GPS automatically.
3. Make sure to set "outgoing port" if you GPS is on 6 set the port to 7
4. In tomtom select port 7.
5. Make sure you're using TT 5.21 or above.

Cranny, I'm not English so maybe I understood your post in correct. If not.........
Gene, yes I did this also, this also doesn't help. I think the receiver is not ok but I need to find some way to prove that. It is pairing, therefore connecting but not starting if I switch on and connect TT5.
Could it be it's stuck in a powersave mode or something ?

gps problem with 2 programs

I recently upgtraded my wizard to the clubimate 2.16.9.1 rom. Everything appears to be fine except one issue (ok two that battery is anoying ) at one point before and I dont know if it was with this rom or the stock tmobile rom from last december, but I had 2 programs accessing my gps without a problem. Now however I do not seem to be able to make that happen.
I have paired my bluetooth gps on com 6. I then went into the gps manager (which I enabled) and told it to use com8 for programs and com6 for the gps. Manage gps automatically is selected.
Any device that connects on the software port gets an error saying the port is not available. Any program that connects directly to the gps port works. Its as if the gps redirection stuff isnt actually working. If two programs try to use the same real port for the gps stuff they will fight each other and both lose data.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a solution?
I am about out of ideas on this ...
Got exactly the same problem with TT5...
I have the same problem.
I have my Holux GPSlim236 attached via Bluetooth to COM6. WiFiFoFum2 sees it just fine on COM6, so I know the device is working and sending data to my Wizard...
Under the GPS icon on the Control Panel, I have set the hardware port to COM6, the program port to COM8, and the "Manage GPS automatically" box checked.
If I'm understanding right, all programs should then be able to talk to COM8 and get GPS data. I even soft-rebooted to make sure my settings were saved, but WiFiFoFum2 still cannot open COM8 at all!
I've been messing with this all night to no avail.
rreinink and trixter, what GPS unit are you using? I wonder if it's a problem with the GPSlim? Though I don't see how, as it works fine directly, just not through WM5.0's GPS Intermediate Driver layer. Is it maybe a bug with GPSID?
-Pete
I had a similar problem with my Atom and couldn't get the GPS to connect properly when running Destinator. The best solution that I have found so far is a program called GPS Gate - it basically does what the WM5 GPS Manager SHOULD do, except GPS Gate actually works (at least it has for me - I have had no problems using my PPC with the bluetooth GPS and Destinator PN). You can download a trial version (and then purchase if you want to) at:
http://franson.com/gpsgate/download.asp?file=GpsGatePPC.zip&ok=1
Hope this helps.

Google Maps help

Google Maps is timing out and not displaying any imagery. It gives the following error “You must install a new version to use this program” I have version 1.2.0.18 installed which I think is the latest version of the tool. I tried installing via direct download through my device and *.cab file, both methods yielded the same results.
I started to think might be due to my network connection using MediaNet. I’m not sure if I should use “AT&T ISP” connection instead (I don’t know those settings are).
New AT&T Tilt user, device is just few days old
It, 1.2.0.13 works fine on my vario III. I can tell which room of my house I am in. Have you tried using it over wifi, this would show if it is your network settings that are out of whack.

Can you provide the Cab file for that version?
I can get it to initialize GPS but it doesn't get sattelites. (v1.2.0.18)
if you are trying to get GPS to work you either not to use a nother app to start the GPS or go into th settings and change it to look through com4 and baud rate of 4800
also the proper cab file should say compressed in the title
thats some weird stuff, never had a problem with gmaps on my tilt...try doing a hard reset and reinstalling and let us know how it goes (hard reset = (while the phone is on) press both soft keys simultaneously and take your stylus and insert it into the reset hole in the bottom, right above the miniusb connection)
Got it working....
Did a hard reset, stopped AT&T's customizations.
Now everything works. I have Visual GPS mapped to PTT & GoogleMaps mapped to PTT (Press & Hold).
I know it ain't the best for GPS but it's free and will do until I decide on which software to buy.
Like I said you don't have to start VisualGPS to get the GPS started with Google maps as long as you go into the settings and change it from Automatic to manual and then change the com port and buad rate My works great and is 1000 times faster than Windows Live maps which i think sucks personally
Same but different problem....
So google maps works, track location works well for about 5 minutes and stops. It says it's still seeing the birds but the flashing blue dot just wont move. Sure I turn "track location" off and then back on, it then works for another 5 minutes....
So do we think it's a H/W or a S/W issue?

GPS doen't work in my HTC Diamond

I purchased my HTC Touch Diamond few days ago and I have the following problems:
Item 1:
After testing several programs (Tomtom7, googlemaps, etc.) internal GPS has never work.
QuickGPS works ok (because in reality only uses the data connection).
The phone was originally with ROM 1.37.456.2, and I also tried with Elite 1.0 ROM. With both ROMs internal still do not work.
Any suggestion?
Item 2:
When I receive a call usually the "Answer" button is pressed in the case involuntarily. Thus the call is answered without knowing it.
Is there any way to minimize this problem?
Of course I appreciate any suggestions.
Ricardo from Uruguay.
Do you have A-GPS (Assisted GPS) enabled with AdvancedConfig ?
If so, disable it.
Very strange...
Can you give us your Radio version ?
Did change something ont the GPS settings ?
Please find the solution at my post

GPS doesn't work
I have Agps Disable.
I have already done many Hard Resets.
Now I am using "HTS GPS Tool". In the setting tab aI can see a lot of information coming, but Satellites used is 0.
Of course no other navigation software is working.
Do you recommend any other ROM?
Thanks in advace for any suggestion.
Ricardo.
I have the same problem
I have AGPS disable
The first time, i run my tomtom 6, it works very well, after i reboot my diamond, it doesnt work any more, i wait all the time for the signal GPS
I use the original ROM, but i dont think it is the ROM problem
This is a common problem.
Don't bother messing around with settings it wont work, just do a hard reset and the GPS should come back

everybody do that ?
If your programs wont access GPS, and you get no GPS by altering the 'external GPS' to com port 4 (program) and Com 0 or 2 (hardware) and ticking the 'let windows manage GPS' box, then GPS will not appear unless you do a hard reset

so, do u mean that, one time i do a soft reset, then a hard reset have to be done for GPS?
My Diamond once lost the ability to get any GPS signal, but this is how I fixed it...
1. Go to "externalGPS" then "Access" tab then Untick the checkbox then hit ok
2. Turn the device off
3. Turn it back on then tick the checkbox then hit ok
It should now find a signal (May take about 2 mins the first time)
I've spent hours reading every thread on here and other forums about GPS not working and changing every com port in gps manager, and nothing worked.
Its just so much quicker to do a hard reset.
Don't waste your time. If you can't get GPS back by changing the com port settings a couple of times, then don't mess with it all night. Do a hard reset and get on with your life
I had similar issues. Seemed to get solved for me by repeatedly selecting and uselecting the "Use GPS" in Google maps. Not sure if it's the same issue but it solved it in my case.
My gps stopped working, too. When I pleaded for help here, Akito gave me this solution:
"The HTC GPS tool is for download at http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853...C_GPS_TOOL.cab and it's discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 .
In the first screenshot in that thread you can see a drop-down box which says "hot start". What I do is to first click the button "open"... then in the tab "sattelite" my problem gets confirmed (can't see any sattelite then). I go back to the first tab, I click the drop-down box, select "cold start", click Nav. Init. click the button close and immediatly open.... et voila, it works again. Sounds quite complicated, however once you've done it a 1st and 2nd time, it's a piece of cake lol"
It worked immediately. Try it - and you will send the kindest thoughts to Akito, too.
When I used HTC tool, the only port that could be opened was port 3 and 7. After opening either of these, when I pressed INIT, I got the response "Unable to Send NMEA command"
So there was definitely some problem with the GPS being "seen"

Locked GPS

Hi I have a T-Mobile Compact IV (HTC Diamond I believe) and my GPS has just stopped working. It comes with CoPilot LIve 7 Trial and has been working fine until I bought the licence code for the full version.
Now it says there is 'No GPS Signal' when I run CoPilot. I have tried QuickGPS and Google Maps (both pre installed like CoPilot) and neither of thoses apps work either!
I have read that the GPS chicp could be locked? Anybody came accross this problem before or have a solution to this. I have emailed T-Mobile, HTC and the makers of CoPilot. Seems like nobody is interested in helping now that I have shelled out for a licence code.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
GPS chip cannot be "locked" out...forget that
There are a number of great threads relating to GPS issues exactly as you described (too numerous to list though...) suggest you have a quick search and move on from there...
I expect that you need to clear the embedded data (use HTC GPS Tool, and clear memory) and then be patient for a first fix.......confident this will work for you
i'd also recomend GPS Tool, its availible here.
Just download the .cab file and run it on your MDACIV
Thanks for the reply guys. I have downloaded and tried the HTC GPS tool and it doesn't seem to find anything. All I get is the error 'Failed to send NMEA command'.
I have just downloaded Google Maps and tested that with the GPS setting and it just sits there saying 'Seeking GPS Satelites (0)...' for ages.
I have also tried lots of the other suggestions in this forum but with no luck. Its almost as if there is no GPS built into this. The only things I have hope for is to hard reset the MDA or to update the ROM/Radio. Tried using the reg edit tool and adv config tool to see if any settings are causing a problem? Could it be the update to comapct farmework 3.5 or the settings for the IP phone?
Unfortunatly I have followed the instructions to hard reset the MDA but it just seems to soft reset, plus what will happen to my installation of CoPilot as it was pre-installed with the phone. I have a backup done with the Sprite Backup tool that came with the phone but will this restore programs if the device is reset?
And the ROMs are all for the HTC Diamond. Plus not too sure about invalidating my warranty with an update.
Really starting to think the GPS has just broke on me. Which is a bit odd since it hasn't been dropped or damaged etc...
Starting to get a bit frustrated as there doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer any where on the web and no supplier is getting back to me (wonder why...?)
OK...it lookslike you have a few more options now....
First thing is make a backup! Do this now and save it to Internal Storage.
A Hard reset appears to be the next option...its fiddely to organise, but it sounds like you need to get a "fresh" install. I would then only install the HTC GPS Tool and then try and find your GPS using standard setting as installed. If it cannot be found then perhaps you have an issue with the unit itself.
As for your co-pilot, surely you have the install cab or disc that came with the unit?
Right now you need to know:
i) Are just the settings screwed up, or
ii) Do I have a faulty unit.....
If it faulty you want to keep the original ROM for warranty purpose (so don't flash that........yet!)
Hold on...
GPS is always OFF until the phone comes out of 'flight mode'. You can do this by activating at least one of the following (phone, BT, Wifi).
Some applications like Igo8 are able to access the GPS whilst the phone is in flight mode.
Other apps such as TT, GPS Tuner, BeelineGPS etc need the non-flight mode.
This can be set in the Comms Manager.

Not as far I am aware. I can and have run TT6 with flight mode engaged - on a BA flight. It starts by saying flight mode engaged at the bottom left, but still finds the satelites (as long as you are next to the window).
And yes BA allow the use of GPS for flights except at take off and landing.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
But I took the plunge and dislocated my fingers to perform a hard reset. After the hard reset the phone automatically re-installed all the supplied apps (CoPilot, Google Maps etc...) and it worked fine.
Tried lots of suggestions and tools but this is the only thiong that has worked. I have read lots of conflicting posts about how the GPS can lock due to several apps attempting to use it while other say its due to the phone not having it enabled as default. And then others say it can't lock!
At the end of the day the GPS worked in the morning and then stopped in the afternoon after no fiddling with the phone. This makes me feel like it could happen again.
As I write this I have just had my first manufacturer response. Its from the makers of CoPilot. They have posted the following :
Please go to Start Menu | Settings | System / GPS
• At the bottom left hand corner of the screen please select Programs and change the GPS program port to COM 4.
• Select Hardware at the bottom left hand corner of the screen and make sure the GPS hardware port to be set to COM 3 and the Baud Rate to 4800.
• Finally at the bottom left hand corner of the screen Select Access and check if the box Manage GPS automatically is ticked.
• Also, please go into START | SETTINGS | CONNECTIONS | BEAM
Please ensure that the beam is unticked as this affects the GPS pickup.
• Also ensure that you do not have any other GPS program installed on the device as this could also affect the GPS setup in Copilot.
2. Launch CoPilot Live on your Pocket PC (Tap on ""Start --> CoPilot Live"")
a. In the ""GPS"" menu, tap ""Options"" and tap on ""Setup GPS""
b. Tap on ""Manual"" and in the ""GPS Com Port and Baud Rate"" section, select the COM port and Baud Rate as provided by your GPS manufacturer (Com 4, Baud Rate: 9600). If you do not know this information, tap the ""Automatic"", then tap ""Next"" and CoPilot Live will search all available ports for your receiver. Note: If you are using a Bluetooth GPS receiver, your Pocket PC's Bluetooth Manager must be aware of the device before CoPilot Live can detect it.
c. Tap ""OK"" at the top of the screen to close the GPS Options. Note: CoPilot will remember the GPS settings on exit, so you will only need to configure your GPS on the first use.
Would like to have tried this but I spent quite a bit of time messing with COM port setting et all... and nothing seemed to work. Ho hum.
Anyhoo, again thanks everybody from your help.

headset issues plus a few other questions

Hi all,
I have just purchased a t-mobile ameo and have so far unlocked and upgraded to wm6. I have a BT bluetooth headset which I have linked with my device and is saved as wireless headset BUT when I turn it on, I am asked for a passcode (there isn't one!) and as a result, I can't use it.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Phil
Hi again, you seem to take the same way I went with my Ameo...ROM, BT problems, contacts problems etc. ;-)
The passcode to nearly all BT devices - if not stated otherwise in your headset manual - is 0000, type it in and try.
Under settings/connections/bluetooth there should also be an entry "security" or so which states "authentication (passkey) required", if you turn it off (not recommended), it should work without a passkey.
Hi again Will,
I've checked all that, security is turned off yet it still asks for a passkey when I turn on the headset and try to make a call. When I first connected the headset, I tried 0000 but it is rejected?!?
Oh, while I have you...
I've just installed tomtom 6 and am having a few issues:
1. Tomtom is listed on the today screen but will not load from there
2. it doesn't appear in my programs folder, I have to go to file explorer/my device/program files/navigator/tomtom
is there anyway to make it easier to access? It's not a problem, just a chore.
Is there anyway to get running programs option on the today screen? it was the on the lower left option before I unlocked etc...
Cheers again for your help and patience.
Phil
You should also try 1234.

1. headset: then it should be another passkey, depending on your headset vendor, maybe you can find more help there, sorry.
2. TomTom: seems to me that it wasn't installed properly or maybe you've loaded a Today-skin that doesn't work 100% with it?
...first try to add TomTom by looking in settings/personal?/menus (it should be listed there, otherwise the program is definately not installed properly) perhaps you should then un- and reinstall it (my first TomTom6 worked immediately on a Dell Axim X5)
3. Running programs: are you referring to taskmanager which shows running applications/processes? I'm not sure if it is present in an official ROM (I'm using MichyPrima 5.1), search in programs for it, if its there you can then add it to today or start menu via the settings.
Hey will,
I'll try the new code tomorrow, my "copy" of tomtom looks like it doesn't install correctly so I'll have to try another. When i say running programs, it's the section of memory which tells you which programs are still running in the background.
By the way I'm using spb which has helped with certain customizations.
On a separate note, has anyone tried installing shadow of legend (mmorpg)? I wanna give it a try BUT it either won't copy across or freezes my system.
Cheers Phil
Did you try 1234?
1234 worked!
Thanks bud
