Hi guys,
I've upgraded server at work to Exchange 2003 SP2. The server is fine (Thank goodness for that). However, my patched BA (WM5) is flacky with the settings that goes with the new push and pull email technology.
If SSL is checked when setting up Exchange server configuration on my BA using Active Sync, I get an error message that Server can not be reached. But then when I switch of SSL, all my contacts and emails are synchronized over WiFi successfully.
Another problem is that Server side security configuration (i.e. Enforce password on device set within Mobile Services on Exchange System Manager) is not reflecting on my PDA. Has anyone tried out this technology and what's your experience with so far?
I think you'll find you need Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack installed on the WM5 device, the only problem is that it's not available yet  We're waiting for just this also!
br/Bosseye
HA!
Now that would explain why all the security feature failed to work. Thanks for the information.
When is the update planned for released?
Cytrax
Also, if it works with No-SSL, then you're getting to the Default Website on your SP2, which means SSL is not set on that. It'll work on WiFi because you'll have Port80 (http) access to the server from your internal network. Will only work over GPRS if you've got Port80 forwarded to the same server, and not off to somewhere else, or blocked. Also beware that if you're hosting multiple sites (via http headers) on the same box as you're SP2 is, then http and SSL sites don't mix readily. Hope this helps. br/Bosseye.
Hey Bosseye,
That's really strange because I know for a fact that SSL Port 443) is configured to forward all to the Server. Port 80 is also set to forward to the same server but not really used.
Furthermore, I'm running the test from home so I'm not exactly on the work LAN. This creates more confusion for me because exchange is configured on IIS to use SSL and not HTTP. What do you think is happening here?
Thanks.
cytrax
Utter crap. Just seen that Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack isn't available till 2006, and then only via OEM. Sounds like Blackberry connect all over again
That's BS!
WTF were Microsoft thinking?
I guess it's back to the drawing board again for all developers on Wiki.
That's BS man!
Well - I was on the Microsoft webcast last week about the MSFP on 20 Oct and the presenter clearly said "anytime now". Without it, MS is failing the primary purpose of a wireless PDA - sync with the enterprise email - and that'll sure irritate their partners who want to shift more PDAs that do stuff other than consumer retro-fit sat nav for cars!
Hey Cytrax,
Difficult to say much about your current problem cos I don't have much info on your setup, but if you're sure that Exch is on SSL, you did remember to put the right certificate on the WM5 device after you upgraded it? However, if you've also got port80 forwarded then, it should work without SSL. Any more clues?
br/
Well, I've seen some slides for Exchange SP2 / MSFP for a talk at the Microsoft IT Forum in Barcelona, I quote from the slide:
MSFP will be rolled into Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU2
For devices shipping after AKU2, OEMs can pick up MSFP as part of normal AKU process
For 5.0 devices already in market, OEMs can use Image Update to deploy MSFP
For Windows Mobile 2003 SE devices already in market, OEMs can provide traditional ROM upgrades via ROM re-flash – complete upgrade to 5.0 required
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/strategy/wm5exch03.mspx
Devices and upgrades will be available sometime early next calendar year through our major device maker (OEM) and mobile operator partners. Please contact your device maker or mobile operators for more details regarding availability
I actually in a computer magazine last week that people would be able to download MSFT from Microsoft this month.
As things stand, I really don't know what to believe. However, I personally think they (Microsoft) would have no choice but to release it as a download for the public.
Well, despite what I heard then, I'm now hearing that Microsoft's route to market will be via OEMs and Mobile operators  , and that the release date will be Q1/2006 - which means 31st March 2006...
The same old stupid mistakes... just like Blackberry. Every minor advancement of mobile messaging just extracts more money... thereby minimising market adoption.
I refuse to subscribe to a strategy of lining the packets of the OEMs and the Mobile operators, as I pay enough in licences to Microsoft already...
Seriously, this is total BS.
My company has been waiting to get this technology for sometime now . But only to find out we can only get our hands on through most phone operators is just straight up wack.
I'm sure Wiki would be alive to derail all their money making plans. Fingers crossed!
If nothing has changed before the 14th November, then I'm off to the Microsoft IT Forum in Barcelona for a week, so I'll go ask Jason Langridge in person. He's helped me out a couple of times in the past and is a good lad
Dude, you've got the best job. You get to this forums? I would love to work for your company. Any openings coming up soon?

Ok ive got this awesome new phone, just love it!
Ive got a hp 1800NW wifi printer, id like to be able to wifi print from anywhere in the house from my lovely new kaiser.
What tools do i need to get this job done?
Has anyone done this?
Many thanks
Surely this should have been one of the first things dealt with natively by win mobile 6?
Not sure if it works with WM6 (only mentions WM5), but this sounds like about the only product that will print via WiFi from a PPC....
Bachmann Software's PrintBoy V7
There's a 15-day trial available, so you don't have to shell out £50 for the full product until you've had a chance to test it!
By the look of things, it prints Word and PDF documents and not much more, so it might be less than useful
HTH,
Mark.
(Yeah, I've seen the TV advert too...looks pretty cool being able to print wirelessly, but it doesn't quite look as though its a reality just yet....)
I'd like to play with wifi printing as well, haven't even tried to search about this yet, hopefully there is an easy method!
WiFi printing has to be done with an app like Printboy (and there are a few around) but I have noticed that in WM6 there is now another option within the mail package.
If you click and hold on any message in the 'Inbox' window, the drop down menu shows 'Print via Bluetooth' and it works well with my HP 450BT printer.
Shame MS did not add this option for any other document though!!
EDIT.. Forgot that I had a registered copy of Printboy for my Universal. Dug it out, dusted it off and installed it on the 'Kaiser'.
Works fine, all you have to do is input the IP address and port 9100 and away it goes. Sometimes it does not format Word document pages too well and it is non-colour but its better than nothing!!
ok is there any free non demo prog available to do this?
thanks
I shelled out for PrintBoy and configured it to print to my networked OfficeJet via WiFi. It prints But there are 2 problems
1 - I can't print ANY SMS or POP3 emails. I can select them but the print button does nothing.
2 - to print word docs from Word Mobile, you must be sure and change the default template from ".docx" to the older ".doc" format of PrintBoy errors out.
I've got an email to tech support for help or refund. Fingers crossed.
I did find a different printing app, PIEprint by Fieldsoftware.com This adds a tap'n'hold print key option while surfing in PIE. This then prints the web page in Color VERY WELL (again over wiFi to my network OfficeJet). Cost $24.95 Great application!
I'm looking for any suggestions for a good email printer over WiFi, if PrintBoy won't work out.
I use JetCet and I am OK with it.
Thanks, I'll check out JetCet.
Here's PrintBoy's reply and my response;

Subject: RE: PrintBoy PPC v7, Email Printing....NOT
Hello Ed,
1. The registration screen does not retain your code. Once you get the successfully registered message , you are registered.
2. Currently PrintBoy does not support .docx files but we do hope to add this support in the future. We do not have an expected time frame for that release.
3. We have had a couple reported bugs in email printing that have been confirmed mostly for email transferred via Activesync. We will be resolving them in the next release. As a workaround, you would need to download mail and choose to "reply" and then save it as a draft then printing.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the reply. First, it does look like I can “Forward” my emails and SMS messages, then save as draft, then open PrintBoy and print them. I’d like to add that NONE of my email or SMS is done thru Active Sync. So while this works, it’s not a very simple solution, especially for $50. Do you know approx when the next release is due out? It looks like the program hasn’t been updated in about a year or more?
Ed

Name: EL Monitor
EL-Monitor (Event Log Monitor) is an application that sends notifications to your Windows Phone device about entries, that are written to Microsoft Windows Event Log on your computer.
It consist of two parts. A Windows Phone application (EL-Monitor) and a desktop application (AL-Agent) that runs on your Windows computer.
You can define rules so that you are notified only about the desired entries.

I developed the application for internal use in our company. Since it is
very useful to us, I decided to make some changes and publish it on Windows Phone Marketplace.
The application is currently in beta. I know there is a lot room for improvement and new features.
If enough interest is shown, I will devote a little more time and include them in future releases.

Hello together.
I have a problem with OneNote at WP8 and it seems, noone else have this?
I use SharePoint 2010 with an Forefront UAG 2010. With OneNote 2010 I created a Notebook at my workspace.
Now, when I try to open this at my WP8 device, I can find the Notebook, but if I try to open it., it always Shows "not synchronized" and it is not possible to get the Content inside the notebook.
It Shows me an error code: e4010647
If I try to search for this at Google, I find Zero entries
Can someone tell me, if SP2010 + UAG210 + OneNote 2010 works for him?
Thank you.

Weird, is this thru an Office 365 subscription?
No, own HA server farm.
Currently I use root explorer, but it does not seem to support OTG with the Nexus 6. I have a SanDisk dual stick (microUSB and USB)connectors )and 32gb of storage. I tried ES File explorer but didnt care to much for it (even though it works). Seems my TWRP backups are taking up roughly 7gbs of space uncompressed and given I have the 32gb model, that size is just unacceptable (unless I compress but I cant take a chance of having it NOT work properly)
Any recommendations based on experience? I have looked thru the app store but the only one I have used in all my years with Android is Root Explorer
StickMount- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en_GB
Then i use some standard file browser(this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fm.clean&hl=en_GB), stickmount will place my OTG USB in SDcard/SDA1
Does require root.

Root isnt a problem. So its safe to assume that this app is perfect the way it is considering Chainfire hasn't touched it in 3 1/2 months and wait..so you need to install this AND a file explorer?

Not touchy just looking for clarification . I know he keeps his apps up to date (I personally use SuperSU), guess seeing a 3 1/2 month hiatus in updates threw up a possible "abandonment" flag in my head is all

Same here with SuperSU that's why when I saw he had a OTG mount app I use it.
Maybe if it's not broke don't fix it? No need to update as it does what it says on the tin.

It was already suggested to you to use Stick Mount, and I'm not sure why you so quickly dismissed the recommendation just because the app hasn't been update in a while. It hasn't been updated because there is no need. I works just fine. You need Stick Mount so that it mounts your OTG drive. Once it is mounted, any of the above mentioned file explorers would work, including Root Explorer (which is the one I use).

+1 I have been using Stick Mount for over two years now, it's a great app. Simplicity is that you need something to mount the drive first then you can use your preferred file manager to access it. I prefer Solid Explorer, nice UI, ability to have dual windows, etc.

It wasnt dismissed at all as I have been looking into it. BUT I would prefer to have an all in one program (similiar to ES), instead of having to download 2 seperate programs to get the functionality of 1. But since I do like some of the other file managers, it seems this will be the way to go.

OTG has nothing to do with a file manager. You use the file manager to navigate to wherever the otg drive is mounted to. Something else has to be responsible for mounting it.

Except that one is NOT a natural component of the other.
