Ok ive got this awesome new phone, just love it!
Ive got a hp 1800NW wifi printer, id like to be able to wifi print from anywhere in the house from my lovely new kaiser.
What tools do i need to get this job done?
Has anyone done this?
Many thanks
Surely this should have been one of the first things dealt with natively by win mobile 6?
Not sure if it works with WM6 (only mentions WM5), but this sounds like about the only product that will print via WiFi from a PPC....
Bachmann Software's PrintBoy V7
There's a 15-day trial available, so you don't have to shell out £50 for the full product until you've had a chance to test it!
By the look of things, it prints Word and PDF documents and not much more, so it might be less than useful
HTH,
Mark.
(Yeah, I've seen the TV advert too...looks pretty cool being able to print wirelessly, but it doesn't quite look as though its a reality just yet....)
I'd like to play with wifi printing as well, haven't even tried to search about this yet, hopefully there is an easy method!
WiFi printing has to be done with an app like Printboy (and there are a few around) but I have noticed that in WM6 there is now another option within the mail package.
If you click and hold on any message in the 'Inbox' window, the drop down menu shows 'Print via Bluetooth' and it works well with my HP 450BT printer.
Shame MS did not add this option for any other document though!!
EDIT.. Forgot that I had a registered copy of Printboy for my Universal. Dug it out, dusted it off and installed it on the 'Kaiser'.
Works fine, all you have to do is input the IP address and port 9100 and away it goes. Sometimes it does not format Word document pages too well and it is non-colour but its better than nothing!!
ok is there any free non demo prog available to do this?
thanks
I shelled out for PrintBoy and configured it to print to my networked OfficeJet via WiFi. It prints But there are 2 problems
1 - I can't print ANY SMS or POP3 emails. I can select them but the print button does nothing.
2 - to print word docs from Word Mobile, you must be sure and change the default template from ".docx" to the older ".doc" format of PrintBoy errors out.
I've got an email to tech support for help or refund. Fingers crossed.
I did find a different printing app, PIEprint by Fieldsoftware.com This adds a tap'n'hold print key option while surfing in PIE. This then prints the web page in Color VERY WELL (again over wiFi to my network OfficeJet). Cost $24.95 Great application!
I'm looking for any suggestions for a good email printer over WiFi, if PrintBoy won't work out.
I use JetCet and I am OK with it.
Thanks, I'll check out JetCet.
Here's PrintBoy's reply and my response;

Subject: RE: PrintBoy PPC v7, Email Printing....NOT
Hello Ed,
1. The registration screen does not retain your code. Once you get the successfully registered message , you are registered.
2. Currently PrintBoy does not support .docx files but we do hope to add this support in the future. We do not have an expected time frame for that release.
3. We have had a couple reported bugs in email printing that have been confirmed mostly for email transferred via Activesync. We will be resolving them in the next release. As a workaround, you would need to download mail and choose to "reply" and then save it as a draft then printing.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the reply. First, it does look like I can “Forward” my emails and SMS messages, then save as draft, then open PrintBoy and print them. I’d like to add that NONE of my email or SMS is done thru Active Sync. So while this works, it’s not a very simple solution, especially for $50. Do you know approx when the next release is due out? It looks like the program hasn’t been updated in about a year or more?

Hi guys,
I've upgraded server at work to Exchange 2003 SP2. The server is fine (Thank goodness for that). However, my patched BA (WM5) is flacky with the settings that goes with the new push and pull email technology.
If SSL is checked when setting up Exchange server configuration on my BA using Active Sync, I get an error message that Server can not be reached. But then when I switch of SSL, all my contacts and emails are synchronized over WiFi successfully.
Another problem is that Server side security configuration (i.e. Enforce password on device set within Mobile Services on Exchange System Manager) is not reflecting on my PDA. Has anyone tried out this technology and what's your experience with so far?
I think you'll find you need Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack installed on the WM5 device, the only problem is that it's not available yet  We're waiting for just this also!
br/Bosseye
HA!
Now that would explain why all the security feature failed to work. Thanks for the information.
When is the update planned for released?
Cytrax
Also, if it works with No-SSL, then you're getting to the Default Website on your SP2, which means SSL is not set on that. It'll work on WiFi because you'll have Port80 (http) access to the server from your internal network. Will only work over GPRS if you've got Port80 forwarded to the same server, and not off to somewhere else, or blocked. Also beware that if you're hosting multiple sites (via http headers) on the same box as you're SP2 is, then http and SSL sites don't mix readily. Hope this helps. br/Bosseye.
Hey Bosseye,
That's really strange because I know for a fact that SSL Port 443) is configured to forward all to the Server. Port 80 is also set to forward to the same server but not really used.
Furthermore, I'm running the test from home so I'm not exactly on the work LAN. This creates more confusion for me because exchange is configured on IIS to use SSL and not HTTP. What do you think is happening here?
Thanks.
cytrax
Utter crap. Just seen that Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack isn't available till 2006, and then only via OEM. Sounds like Blackberry connect all over again
That's BS!
WTF were Microsoft thinking?
I guess it's back to the drawing board again for all developers on Wiki.
That's BS man!
Well - I was on the Microsoft webcast last week about the MSFP on 20 Oct and the presenter clearly said "anytime now". Without it, MS is failing the primary purpose of a wireless PDA - sync with the enterprise email - and that'll sure irritate their partners who want to shift more PDAs that do stuff other than consumer retro-fit sat nav for cars!
Hey Cytrax,
Difficult to say much about your current problem cos I don't have much info on your setup, but if you're sure that Exch is on SSL, you did remember to put the right certificate on the WM5 device after you upgraded it? However, if you've also got port80 forwarded then, it should work without SSL. Any more clues?
br/
Well, I've seen some slides for Exchange SP2 / MSFP for a talk at the Microsoft IT Forum in Barcelona, I quote from the slide:
MSFP will be rolled into Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU2
For devices shipping after AKU2, OEMs can pick up MSFP as part of normal AKU process
For 5.0 devices already in market, OEMs can use Image Update to deploy MSFP
For Windows Mobile 2003 SE devices already in market, OEMs can provide traditional ROM upgrades via ROM re-flash – complete upgrade to 5.0 required
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/strategy/wm5exch03.mspx
Devices and upgrades will be available sometime early next calendar year through our major device maker (OEM) and mobile operator partners. Please contact your device maker or mobile operators for more details regarding availability
I actually in a computer magazine last week that people would be able to download MSFT from Microsoft this month.
As things stand, I really don't know what to believe. However, I personally think they (Microsoft) would have no choice but to release it as a download for the public.
Well, despite what I heard then, I'm now hearing that Microsoft's route to market will be via OEMs and Mobile operators  , and that the release date will be Q1/2006 - which means 31st March 2006...
The same old stupid mistakes... just like Blackberry. Every minor advancement of mobile messaging just extracts more money... thereby minimising market adoption.
I refuse to subscribe to a strategy of lining the packets of the OEMs and the Mobile operators, as I pay enough in licences to Microsoft already...
Seriously, this is total BS.
My company has been waiting to get this technology for sometime now . But only to find out we can only get our hands on through most phone operators is just straight up wack.
I'm sure Wiki would be alive to derail all their money making plans. Fingers crossed!
If nothing has changed before the 14th November, then I'm off to the Microsoft IT Forum in Barcelona for a week, so I'll go ask Jason Langridge in person. He's helped me out a couple of times in the past and is a good lad
Dude, you've got the best job. You get to this forums? I would love to work for your company. Any openings coming up soon?

I have not found any threads regarding this so I went ahead and bit the bullet and tried on my GoodLink server. Initially disappointed because my server was setup to send the last ver 4 GoodLink software to the Kaiser. After upgrading then to ver 5 the phone portion of the device would not work no matter what I did. GoodLink seemed to work but the phone wouldn't. I then uninstalled GoodLink via the remove programs (now GoodLink does not require hard reset to get rid of it).
I waited 24 hours (chicken). I then made sure that ver 5 was pushed to the device initially - viola - seems to work great now after 24 hours. No slowing of the device as was the case with other lesser devices (memory and processor speed!).
So far I believe that for those who want GoodLink and PPC the Kaiser may be the best device so far! I'll keep you updated as to any glitches that come up. I fully recognize that with some of the improvements to Pocket Outlook and with always on active sync GoodLink is not as needed as it was before but there are still some "closer to desktop Outlook" advantages for business users.

So - I binned Goodlink some time ago on the Co HP device and opted for a phone the performance was so bad. Based on your recommendation I might try it again. Where can I get the latest CAB? Will my old account registration work on the TyTN - or do I have to go back to the IS dept for another "key" to get setup?
Thx
Graham
The IT dept has to enable the version 5 for your device. In my case I have my own GoodLink server and I tried to install via a cab file and it didn't work for some reason. So I went back to the OTA setup. Just call the IT dept and ask them to enable the version 5 for your device (that is assuming they have upgraded their server yet) and resend you a PIN email. It is three or four mouse clicks so don't let them act like it is much trouble!
If you don't get ver 5 right off the bat then uninstall it don;t go any further because it didn;t work for me to "upgrade" ver 4 to 5!
how much better is it than 4.93? i find it a little buggy and i still need to activesync my calendar and contacts for other Hpone related items.
Goodlink
Goodlink 4.9.3.21 works like a charm, syncs mail, calendar, notes, tasks, the works and it's fast too. Not sure why yours would be 'buggy'; mine works like a charm without failure.

There are definitely some improvements with ver 5 -- one thing to know (I have another post somewhere else) is that you need to prepare for the fact that there is integration with the native contact list and GoodLink. In other words if you still use Active Sync (like via a server) you will get duplicate contacts. The IT person for the GoodLink server has a setting to choose what parts of you contact list will get sync'd with the native contact list for "use with voice dialing" etc (as per GoodLink's literature), i.e, Last, First, work, home, fax, email. Once you figure out what is going on it is actually better because the native contact list takes up less space because you can pick and choose (the IT GoodLink admin guy) what is sync'd.
All the while the GoodLink Calendar list , of course, gets fully sync's as it is designed to do.
[Interestingly with vers 5 server and ver 5 on the device the GoodLink admin person can actually "dis-allow" the use of any particular application on your device. Every program you have on your device shows up on the GoodLink Mangemenet Console. It's pretty cool -- that is if you have access to the server!!!]
If you have question just ask and I'll try to answer them since I have my own server
PS as far as the duplicate contact thing you need to use PPContactsMgr and delete ALL of your native contacts, then tell active sync NOT to sync contacts and then let GoodLink do its thing as far as syncing the selected fields of you native contact list.
PSS I really like using GoodLink so far -- with it's limited syncing of the native contacts list which then work NICELY with PocketCM to make calls text msgs etc
A bunch of GOOKS...

Iten I was browsing sure does. I was really surprised when I was browsing my new management console for ver 5 and click on a tab that took a minute or two to respond (I didn't know at the time but it was retrieving from my device) and then showed my applications on my device and gave options for which to allow and which to disallow!!
I didn't want to mess anything up so I didn't experiment.

I tried the OTA setup and it gave me version 6(!).. Needless to say my old PIN wasn't valid - and the IT dept wouldn't enable it for me. They said "can't use none approved devices on Company networks".. so I can't use my TyTNII with Goodlink. I think the PIN was for v5.. but I don't see how to get the v5 CAB

Hi guys,
Well, I didn't think santa would bring me a Vario III, so I bought one myself on Xmas eve. I have never owned a smartphone before, but have had PDAs (a palm tungsten and a Psion Series 5).
I basically bought it for the mobile office features (including internet access email) and of course the keyboard.
My experience of the Vario III so far has been mixed, mainly because I don't seem to be able to get certain features to work. I love the fast internet access, the calendar and weather, plus the camera. I have also downloaded Opera mini, which is in my opinion beter thanIE because it gives you proper web pages.
The problems I am having so far are:
1. email. I have so far failed to synch with wither my personal email (with blueyonder) or with my office email. Moreover, in the beginning there was a 'set up a new email account' feature which seems to have disappeared. Do you think a hard reset might be worth a try?
2. video. I have so far failed to launch a single video from any website (including the ones on the t-mobile favourites. I don't know how to fix this.
Also, I have been reading this site avidly, but lacking much technical knowledge, a lot of it I don't quite get. So the additional questions I have are:
1. are there any 'must have' CAB files I ought to be downloading (at least to try them out)?
2. Where can I find the 'cube' which is frequently referred to on here?
Any advice on any of the above would be much appreciated.

1. Must have cab is definately -WKTASK(http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html) its free so its cool
- Resco explorer(Not Free)
- Htc album, with the new Camera (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355587)
2. As for the cube, if ind it pointless but here it is (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354715)
EDIT: dont forget to tweak your Vario with Kaiser Tweak!!! or, if more advanced tweak it manually with a registry editor available in total commander. Registry tweaks are available in the wiki
Thanks ekw for your prompt and most helpful reply

With reference to emails---Do you have the t-mobile rom..standard purchase from t-mobile?If you do, then as standard out of the box there's an email wizard built in the rom from T-mobile. They believe the email wizard is easier to set up.
With reference to launching videos, and especially from t-zones, this will be restricted possibly due to what's known as "content Lock". Call t-mobile cust services on 150 and ask them to remove the content lock, this will enable you to browse you tube, launch videos an msn and so on.
Hope this helps?
If you need any help, send me a mail, got a few days off.

Thanks mobilemadness, much appreciated. I followed the instructions in the box and have subsequently tried all kinds of permutations, but still have not managed to get email working . I don't know if anyone else is having the same issues.
Well, I don't know if some of your questions have been answered yet?
1. email.
Go to Message -> Menu -> Option -> Add New
(What's your carrier, and how are you connecting to the internet)
2. video.
Download the Youtube plugin for TCMP (or use Dutty rom), or you can download Opera Mobile 8.65 and download Macromedia Flash. You play youtube from the actual website. But I still prefer TCMP.
1. are there any 'must have' CAB files I ought to be downloading (at least to try them out)?
Look at the stickies, those you will have to do a search. Search for a user name dutty, he has a good collection of cabs.
2. Where can I find the 'cube' which is frequently referred to on here?
Do a search for cubes; TouchFlo, is the one that came with the HTC Touch.
Ok, first post here after lurking in the shadows of "search" and other viewing/reading of the threads...... I have an unlocked HTC Advantage 7501 in the US market

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!! I can print!! Thanks. Worked perfectly.
Yes, i really like the new version of jetcet print that allows you to print to network ip printers. I can print to my home printer or office printer from anywhere i can get a data connection.
The old version allowed ipp printers, but i could never get it to work correctly. It's too bad the old HP print from ce doesn't work on WM5 or WM6, that used to work perfectly....

I always seemed to have "issues" with the HP printing app, may have been the puny memory in my iPaq. But this new version of JetCet is 100% thus far.
Thanks again WGARY. I'm going to go ahead and purchase the product.
Lexmarks compatable
im using jetcet as well, and I can print to any and all of our networked Lexmark laser printers here at work. I just set them up as generic HP Postscript printers and plugged in their IP's. Emails, web pages and full screen pictures print perfectly from my athena!
jetcet already comes with wm5/6 but doesn't work
my yetcet gives me errors and shuts down again, thats the from an unlocked phone preinstalled version from the originally wm5 and newly upgraded wm6 from htc directly.
Any help here ?

It works for me with WM6 PK Black ROM with NO errors whatsoever. Maybe you need to uninstall it and install it in your "device" location when prompted.
I got the newest version last week and tried printing on my epson c79 through wifi. The printout's garbled with letters running one on top of the other. BTW, couldn't find c79 in the list of printers there. Can someone advise me on this?
as i said i have lexmark laser printers at my work, and i configured them as generic HP postscript printers...they worked perfectly...I would suggest trying various printers until you get one that will print correctly
I have my HP Color Laser 4550 connecting as "HP Color Laser Series" and it works fine. Also note that I am using the IP address of my printer. Just printer my Excel files minutes ago.
Thank for the advice I will try it in my office tomorrow.
I have been playing with Jetcet for a day now. I havent gotten anywhere as of yet. I'm trying to figure the printing to Network IP printer.
I believe there is something I need to do on my computer. But what is it? Do I set up my printer on to the internet so I can just plug in an IP in Jetcet? Do I have to change the router setting or something? Does it entail punching a whole in the firewall? If so, what is the port code?
Just a little stuck here. From the entire research on the site....this is the closet thread I found that speaks to the subject....specifically for the x7501 Advantage.
Thanks Kenjari

Hi everyone,
i went to a 3store today to get a TYTN 2 on 3 network UK. I thought we could use the free skype minutes they offer on other handsets, but they said no, use the wifi!!!
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to connect to their skype service. Thanks
PS: Please include links to any software or recent methods you might know.
Hi, I'd also like to know if this possible. Have a 3 PAYG sim and get 30 days free skype when I pay for the internet add-on but cannot work out how to use the 3G network for my calls. Cheers
I think fring will do what you want.
The website says you can make skype calls.
www.fring.com "fring is based on a unique thin-client technology that for the first time enables true VoIP over 3G, GPRS and WiFi networks"
I installed it on my stock rom AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) but have not tested.

Thanks but i think for that you should have access to the internet. I can easily use the skype program instead. The problem is that skype is not the type of skype 3 network is using ( they use a java based program).
I read an article and someone had used the skype from a LG phones with 3 and Esmertec Jbed, but that was an Australian version. does anyone have a UK version?
This would rock if it is possible! Anyone know where to download a UK version?
I think we need to find someone with a non nokia phone from 3 UK, so he can give us the jar file. preferably LG
What do you think?
anyone from uk? or anyone knows a professional UK website? please
Anyone found this?
Can anyone with a TyTn II from the 3 network confirm if it comes with Planet 3 and Skype software installed?

Ah, you forgot to read the ultra-small fine print that states that the offer for *all* phones has expired and it's now only on *selected* handsets that seem to exclude the TyTN 2, also you can't get the sim-only and install the Three free Skype or Live Messenger on a non-Three phone+rom without some custom ROM hacking.
To make matters worse, if you get the £5 Unlimited Internet Access, the small print is that Three block Skype and Live Messenger so they can't be used (thought I think you can buy the £10 option that allows them?) - even if you want to pay for them outside the unlimited bundle. You can use IM+ BeejiveIM etc, to access Live Messenger though, and as far as I'm aware it seems to be included in the Unlimited access...
Oh, and if you want to access Planet3/My3 on your phone you can do so, but first you need to go into Advanced Config and change your "User Agent Custom Base" to "HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0" and then use the URL "http://mobile.three.co.uk/837_sc/index.do"
The Planet3/My3 will only work when accessing the page though the 3 connection and not WiFI or ActiveSync, but is acuttaly pritty nifty at checking you accound balance, tops ups, addons and such like.

Hi guys,
This is a solution for the Skype on Three network issue. I had placed it on another forum (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?p=385677) and one guy has reported it working, but apparently, it might not work with WM5, only with WM6. Please give it a whirl and let me know if it works for you.

Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum
(I have great and joyous news)
I believe that I have succeeded in getting the native Iskoot WM6 client for Skype to connect to the Three/3 service. I am still testing it and would appreciate your feedback.
Steps
a) Download and install the Iskoot client for Windows Mobile 6 . Try the direct link here (http://www.iskoot.com/pc_download/Wi...1.54_WMpro.CAB)
b) After installation, start the application, but DO NOT sign in. Instead exit it. The reason for doing this is to create the default registry entries for Iskoot.
c) Now start your favourite registry editor (I personally use Resco Registry Editor, but you should be able to use any. Please do not ask me how to use the registry editor. This is not the appropraite forum.)
d) Head for the following location in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE
e) Update all the following entries to the same value "http://mobile.three.co.uk/948" (do not include the "double quotes")
BackupHost
CallUrl
DefaultSkHost
Pushhost
f) Exit the registry editor of choice and start and log into Iskoot. This might take some time. It took me about five minutes.
It should now be configured to connect to the 3 Skype service. To cross-verify, check that the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE\Cal lNumber has the value +447838333894 (the 3 Skype dial-out number). It should be automatically added by the software.
As I have mentioned earlier, I am still testing this. However, with this implementation, it should not use your included minutes, but the free Skype allocation. Please test the same and let us all know if that is the case or you have noticed that your inclusive minutes have been used up.
I do not know how to modify cabs. But if somebody can rebuild the original Iskoot cab with these settings built-in, that would be great.
I have noticed that the sound quality on this is considerably better as compared to the Skype Java client.

Thanks for the information. I tried it on my Hermes and it worked great.
Unfortunately, when I tried the same thing on my Kaiser, all I ever get is "Currently unable to connect".
I can't see why there would be any difference between the two phones, but the Hermes never fails and the Kaiser never succeeds!
Any suggestions?

Hi guys,
This is a solution for the Skype on Three network issue. I had placed it on another forum (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?p=385677) and one guy has reported it working, but apparently, it might not work with WM5, only with WM6. Please give it a whirl and let me know if it works for you.
Feedback is great for both me as well as others

BackupHost
CallUrl

Pushhost

The iskoot link is http://www.iskoot.com/pc_download/WindowsMobile/iSkootForSkype1.1.54_WMpro.CAB
How do you get the address http://mobile.three.co.uk/948? I am looking for the same thing for three italy, so I cannot use that url. I have Kaiser and a three skypephone, wich include 10 hours per day of free skype call, so I will love to use the iskoot software on Kaiser and lunch outside the windows the Amoi!
Thanks

For Windows Mobile 6.1, MS .net Framework 3.5 is required, otherwise, "Currently unable to connect" error might appear
SkypeOut is officially supported (if not, very soon) by 3UK,
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/overseascalling/
with some restrictions (read the small print!)
I failed to get Skypein to work, however.
And Skypeout is a bit unstable at the moment, might be 3UK is upgrading their servers...

I think what some people did is to download a java version of the iskoot (for other non-WM phone) and decompiled the java class/jad file and find the URL string. I guess if you can somehow intercept the outgoing network traffic from a 3 customized iskoot client running on another phone (perhaps on a Symbian phone trying to communicate to the server via wifi, which wouldn't connect successfully I believe, but still let you), parse the network packet to find out its intended destination will do the trick too.

Thanks for the tip, but the problem is that the only phone with skype is the amoi 8512 (http://www.3skypephone.com/english/index.html have you ever seen it?) I do not have x-series with skype, but a specific offer wich works only with this phone. This phone does not have wifi, so I cannot sniff packet through network, and the iskoot client is not java, but specifically made for it (when I run it, the Java log does not apper), so I do not know how I could extract the url. The only thing I have done is to get its user agent to replace it on the Tytn II, the Amoi 8512 user agent is " Amoi 8512/R22.0 NF-Browser/3.3" without double quote, of course.

I was in your situation until a week ago when I found the 3 UK setting. It is so frustrating that I knew all it requires is a correct URL address yet I didn't know what it is!
What you may want to try is to first identify which X-series phone that 3 Italy support apart from the skypephone. And then change your Tytn II 's broswer agent string to one of those phone that use a JAVA iskoot client instead of a native client like Symbian client. Then use your phone browser to 3 ITA portal and try to download the iskoot (Skype) software. 3 ITA server should now think that you have a compatible phone so it will present you with the Java client. Once you go the .jar file, you can proceed to extract the URL from there...
I think people used SEW910I to get the 3 Australia client.
Try this for the Browser agent string:
SonyEricssonW910i/R1CA Browser/NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
I tried the above suggestion myself to try to get the URL from 3 UK's client, but I can't remember why I stopped, and then later I found that the URL is already know on some other forums on the Internet...
Good luck!
