Hello,
I need some expert help to get my XDA IIs out of bootloader.
I attempted to update ROM and got stuck in Bootloader.
I followed directions posted on this forum to the letter:
Make sure your device or cradle is connected directly to your computer (so no hubs!)
Disconnect the device from the PC, or remove from cradle
Perform a "hard reset" on the device (screen will flicker but nothing will change)
Kill the BaUpgradeUt.exe program on your PC by using Window's Task Manager (CRTL+ALT+DEL)
Kill the wcesscom.exe program on your PC by using Window's Task Manager (this is the ActiveSync application)
Place the device back in it's cradle
Restart the upgrade program from your PC (double-click BaUpgradeUt.exe)
Still No JOY !!! Any suggestions ?
Solution to Upgrade..?
Hi, have you looked at this properly..?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_1.42.00_Upgrade
Or - If you're trying to update to WM5..
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_5.1.1700_build_14343_Upgrade
Then you should be ok.. Take a breather, start again..
Let me know how you get on..?
Cheers,
Stuck in Bootloader Screen
Mr Philly,
Thank you very much for your help, however I followed the links you gave me, and still have no joy.
When I run the BaUpgradeUt.exe I get a "connection error" saying check the physical connection between the phone and the computer. Also, BaUpgradeUt seems to close active sync once launched. The program then freezes unless I reopen active sync. I then get the connection error.
When I run the MaUpgradeUt.exe I get to the upgrade screen telling you that you are upgrading from ... to ... however the fields listing the various ROM versions etc.. are blank. If I click on upgrade, I get an error 150 saying "not designed for your device, please get proper ROM upgrade utility."
Any new suggestions for me ?
Missing my XDA very much as I use it a lot.
Thanks
I figured out the problem. It seems that the PDA was not responding to the ROM upgrade because the SD Card was in place. Origionally I thought this to be of no consequence as I only have a "dummy" card in the slot. I was wrong. Once I removed the Card everything went as it was supposed to.

Hey Guys....
I am still working on this DIY but this is how I was able to accomplish reverting back to my OEM Cingular 8125 state.
If someone could plase let me know how to replace the very first SPLASH Screen from "HTC" to CINGULAR, I would greatly appreciate it.
By following the steps below, you will have almost everything back to its original state.
Be sure to download all the necessary ROM files: OS ROM, Radio ROM, splash.bin
Place your OS ROM and Radio ROM inside the c:\sWizard\ROM folder.
DOWNGRADE YOUR OS AND RADIO ROM
1. Download aWizard 1.3b Beta Version (Attached File or Latest Version) from the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386&highlight=awizard
2. Unzip the folder to your root directory (C:\aWizard or D:\aWizard). You need to avoid having spaces your directory name. This is the reason placing folder in the root.
3. Make sure you have an active connection via Active Sync.
4. Run the aWizard.cmd file from C:\aWizard
5. Run "e" command FIRST !
6. Run "u" command. Your Wizard will reboot.
7. Run "w" command to update your ROM. You will get a prompt to choose your ROM. If you did not place a valid ROM inside the ROM folder, then you wont see it from this list. Also, if you placed your aWizard in other directory with spaces (i.e C:\ MY DOCUMENT) then you wont see it either. Just let it run. It will take close to 20 minutes. At the end, it will as you to hard reset.
8. Run "r" command to update your Radio ROM. Same as Step 7.
Replacing Splash Screen (Back to Cingular)
1. Place the splash.bin file inside the c:\aWizard\lib
2. Open up CMD and navigate to c:\aWizard\lib
3. Type in the following command "pdocwrite.exe -n 1 splash.bin 0x002d0000"
pdocwrite.exe = this program is located inside the LIB folder
splash.bin is a file that I converted.
4. Once completed, please reset your Wizard and now you will have Cingular's Splash (2nd Splash)
Updating the EXT ROM
1. I did this manually by utilizing Active Sync to copy over all the Cingular ROMs to the Wizard and running it individually.
2. Reset and you will now have all the programs Wizard came with.
FAQ
Q. My Wizard is stuck on a splash screen and it wont do anything.
1. Hard reset your Wizard
2. Hold onto Camera Button while turning on the Wizard and you will get the boot screen.
3. Plug in your USB Cable
4. Run one of the known ROM files with .exe extention. When this happened to me while downgrading,
I had to reload the latest iMate ROM.
5. Start the downgrade process again by following the above instruction.
reverting back to original cingular rom
Thank you for this.
Don't you have to REINSTALL original Cingular Rom or does this do that by removing imate updated ROM?

When you install Cingular ROM, it will remove/overwrite the existing iMate ROM.
Be sure to place your ROM files in the the ROM folder.
If your running the aku2 imate rom, many people will have problems running awizard or lokiwiz to unlock the CID, I had to run the tmo uk rom update (.exe one) which replaced the imate, and then restore the rom files I had backed up for cingular, although the extended rom is still locked, thats annoying.

can you please share how you change the very first splash screen on your 8125 ? its the only thing i wasnt able to do or know how to do.
thanks
FarSeide, I'm pretty sure that even the stock 8125's from Cingular showed the HTC screen first, the cingular screen second, and finally the Windows Mobile screen. If that's the case, then your 8125 is as good as new as far as Cingular is concerned.
Also, if anyone upgraded to the AKU2 I-mate ROM, you cannot do the process you described, because (as someone else mentioned) the lokiwiz program will not work. What you need to do is FIRST install a different ROM using an exe file (a good example would be the leaked AKU2 Q-Tek ROM exe file), and only after that entire upgrade process is completed, can you now use lokiwiz to unlock the SuperCID and install the Cingular ROM.

Eli,
thank you for the info. I wanted to put this together because when I tired to do this, there were information but scattered all over all forums. just wanted to help others so that they dont go through the same thing i did.
i was following these instructions and i got a
NOTIFICATION ERROR
cannot execute repllog.exe
so what i had to do was hard reset, boot screen , re-installed imate, ...
i guess i will try it again, what do you guys think
hmmm... sorry to say but my 8125 only ever showed the cingular splash. No HTC, no WinMob. I had assumed that Cingular somehow replaced all 3 splash screen with theirs.... In fact, I never even knew there was more than one splash screen until I upgraded to the Qtek rom.
I'm in trouble
I tried to downgrade the ROM and now I'm hung in the i-Mate SPLASH SCREEN. I tried the hard reset and it hangs every time. I can't get a connection through active sync obviously so what are my options. How can I get a working device.
I'm freaking out.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

relax... i was exactly where you were...
first, hard reset your device.
Hold the Com Manager, Voice Command and press the soft reset with your stylus.
before you turn the device back on, hold the camera button then turn on the power. you will receive the boot screen. Plug in your USB Cable and kick off the EXE file. Load one of the known ROMS like the iMate ROM.
reload and try again. I am willing to bet that you disconnected the USB Cable while updating to Cingular ROM.
Good luck and dont worry.
does anyone have the exe for the original Cingular ROM ?
my colleague tried to update his 8125 with my imate rom.....and did not unlock it first.
all he has is the bootloader now, the update gives the well known Error: Invalid Vender ID
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks !!
Get a copy of the proper ROM on a SD card, and reload it that way.
This is the easiest way out of that box......
Thanks,
but how to get the Rom reloaded from the SD card onto the device using the bootloader ?

THAT part is easy.
Note that the SD card image is NOT a file. You have to raw write it onto the card, which will destroy the filesystem - so back up the card first! psdwrite will do the job. You also need the image (PREVIOUSLY copied from a SD-made backup with "psdREAD")
To restore it, insert the card, hold the CAMERA button, and power on. The phone will tell you to press VOICE to restore the SD image (it looks to see if there's a valid one in there)
Note that with 1.x bootloaders this will happen with the BACKLIGHT OFF, and you only have 3 seconds or so to press the key - so have a flashlight handy. 2.x bootloaders turn the backlight ON.
Hit VOICE. The image will be verified (checksummed) and if it is good, it will be loaded.
That's it. Takes about 2-3 minutes. When it finishes it will tell you to press any key, and when you do you'll end up at the tricolor screen.
Power off and back on, and the phone will cold boot the new image.
This will work even if you can't run an RUU loader, so long as you can get that first prompt up. It is a VERY effective rescue method.
IMHO before you hack on the firmware in these things you should make an SD card backup just for this reason.
Which tools is best option for ROM backup to Mini SD?
Hi,
Just read your message about writing ROM to Mini SD card.
I'd like to do just that.
I want one or two ROM's for safekeeping stored somewhere instead only a backup or official copy on my pc.
As i've read restoring from SD is safer and faster..
I don't intend to use the SD card for anything more than just that.
In the Prodigy Service Manual (Prodigy Service Manual -XA(0813-2005).pdf) HTC uses mtty.exe. There are also instructions in the PDF.
Since HTC uses this, it should do exactly what i want, i guess?
Or is there a better tool?
Thanks,
Allegro.
P.S: Will a restored ROM from Mini-SD look fresh to HTC?
Or will they see it's a self restored copy instead of a official HTC restore?
Will it reset "everything"?
I was able to fully restore CIngular 8125 ROM, EXTROM, All Splash Images using the SD Restore.
100 Cingular OEM Spec has been restored...
I hv updated T Mo custom ROM..but now can't downgrade even by Awizard utils....can any one throw some light on this?
I recently tried to upgrade my phone's radio rom file to a 2.25.11,
But I failed to realize that this was for people who had roms 2.x I still have a 1.x. Now every time I bootup, it takes over 90 seconds to do so, then it freezes at the part where I have to enter my 4 digit security code. I enter the first digit and it just freezes. Is there anyway I could revert back to the old settings, or heck... just fix it. I plug in the usb to my laptop, but it does not recognize it due to the fact that I don't believe it's completely booted up. Is there any help for me, or did I just created an expensive chalk block?
Thank You guys in advance.
BTW I did search this fourm for bricking of wizards and many other searchs but to no avail.
Go into the bootloader, connect the USB cable to the computer and the Wizard and reflash the stock ROM to the device.
Now, do a CID unlock and reflash with the ROM of your choice.
HTC Wizard
I went to the HTC's website and downloaded the Cingular ROM file, but when I launch the file it gives me this error.
The content of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of this file, verify its integrity, and try again.
I downloaded it 3 times from 3 different PC's.... but same error.

First of all, the file from HTC is corrupted. Period.
Second, follow these simple instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47848&sid=79d9599e2f6c9c0ddc50fda4f116469e
Third, install whatever ROM you want.
For a ROM upgrade to be successfull you must unlock first and follow the instructions.
Sorry if I'm a little rough but this is documented and documented here, time after time.

Download the original Cingular Rom (1.08.11) from this ftp site. There is a problem with the new cingular rom posted at htcamerica.
Hi, I want to make a flashable radio rom 2.47.11 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=268031&page=10 This rom is locked, so I cannot install it on my cid-locked wizard. I've extracted 96000000-GSM_0.nb and now I'm trying to make nk.nbf, but I don't know how. Can I use this settings? And if the radio rom upgrade will fail, can reflash it?
Nobody knows how can I make it?
Patience, Jimmy.
There is no IPL/SPL in the original 2.47 radio rom you extracted from. Rebuilding the nk.nbf this way probably won't help. I will tell you that you should supply a language like "WWE" and versions like 2.47.11 and leave the CID code blank if you want to try it anyway.
Exactly what error message are you getting when you try to flash with the new radio rom?
I don't remember exactly what error it was, but Wizard stayed in three color mode and the flashing wizard showed "Error " and some number...
Can you try the flash again even though the Wizard is in bootloader mode? Sometimes the ROM Update Utility will find it even though it's in bootloader mode. It might help to disconnect the Wizard from USB, reboot the machine, wait for it to COMPLETELY boot up (disk activity dies down etc.) then connect the Wizard and listen for the "device connected" sound. Then try the flash again. Screen print the error and, if you can do all that OK, I'm sure we can get the new radio on there either by downgrading it and CID unlocking it or by using aWizard.
Hello everyone,
First - I'm really happy to have found this resource. I had no idea about all the cool things I could do to my phone. Thanks to everybody for all your hard work.
I spent a lot of time reading up with the goal of upgrading to a Windows Mobile 6 ROM. But now I need some help please, because I can't get my phone back!
I determined that my phone is a G4 (IPL/SPL of 2.16.0001). I attempted to load various WM6 Roms (TNT 4.0 Official and XDA Mobile 6), without success (error 300). Eventually, I succeeded in loading Wizard Love 2.26.10.2, and booted into Windows successfully. I then tried to load TNT 4.0 on. It got up to 100%, rebooted - and now I am stuck on the RGB / bootloader screen. Plugging in USB cable gives me the USB txt in the bottom left, but no response from the computer. The various RUU utilities I have tried to restore the phone back to Wizard Love or official iMate ROMs all fail - they can't seem to find the phone.
I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks you in advance.
Regards,
Nick
Progress!
More research led me to find that WinXP should be able to install a new ROM without ActiveSync - in fact, you need to disable ActiveSync USB connections and end wscecomm.exe via task manager.
These steps allowed me to attempt flashing of a new ROM:
1. Uninstall device from device manager
2. Turn off device completely
3. Disable USB in ActiveSync
4. End process "wscecomm.exe" via Task Manager
5. Plug in phone, windows will detect and install as a Windows CE. This will make wscecomm.exe load again. End this before running the RUU tool
6. Run RUU. When detecting your phone, it will run wscecomm.exe. I kept ending it and crashing the RUU . RUU stops it itself.
7. Finally my phone was detected and I was able to proceed to flashing without an RUU error. Previously, i was getting error 260, 264, 300...
I was greedy and attempted to load XDA Mobile 6. It got to 99% and crashed. I will try and get back to Wizard Love.
If somebody could tell me what I am missing / doing wrong that would be great. To summarise:
- I have been able to install Wizard Love
- I have a G4 i-mate KJAM
- TNT 4.0 has reached 100%. On reboot, I only got boatloader.
- After many hours trying to fix, I finally was able to attempt to flash XDA 6 r2. It reached 99% before crashing
I will now try to put Wizard Love back on, but I really want to run WM 6.0 and am not very concerned about which flavour. Thanks for your help
No...You shouldn't use RUU for upgrading to WM6 because your G4 is not unlocked (You need to pay to unlock a G4, however it is not required if you don't use RUU).
Flash to Wizard Love, then get a copy of ShellTool and use it to flash the nk.nbf inside WM6 RUU.
no worries. I have the same phone and running XDA r2a, so it can be done!
Simply get hold of G4_step_by_step_install_wm6 I think theres a link to rapidshare on this forum, try search. (I will try get the link later on.) Follow the steps and it has shelltool which will extract th OS for and you can then install. Make sure you get the splash screens from XDA thread so you get the full package.
Good luck

Hey guys - thanks so much, I can't wait to get stuck into it.
You know I spent my whole weekend getting into this stuff and I'm sure I have only just scratched the surface!
I think it's fantastic that so many of you put so much work into this, and then also have time to guide people through the process.
Regarding the FTP links throughout these forums - They never seem to work for me. I get an error 550 - failed to change directory. These are links with usernameassword of xda:xda. The only link that worked had something different, along the lines of xdaupload:xda, can't remember for sure.
What am I doing wrong?
Just get the G4_step_by_step, forget everything else. Its on rapidshare. It has even a WM6 Rom in it so you can even that on your Wizard. But you can install XDA R2a also by following the step by step guide and knowing what to replace. Have you downloaded it? Its about 75MB but well worth every bit of it! You wont need anything else after that.
We learn from each other! Thats why we help others so they help us too

The forum carried many ROMs before. Micro$oft had some opinion on this and hence the ROMs were all removed. Most of the 550 errors would be due to this.
