Just upgraded to TuMa 1.3. Problem with Active Sync has been resolved. And theres another problem, cant connect to the internet through active sync (with cradle). Will someone help me with this. Thx alot..
I have the same problem. I have imate Jam with WWE Rom. After I installed mobile operator's settings file on clubimate.com, active sync recognizes the device and show inside but doesnt provide internet to the system?
I have Zone Alarm on Pc but, it was working very well before. I tried it without this firewall and even uninstall-reinstall Active Sync 4.1 but nothing has changed. I even deleted all the settings that this operator's software that I download on club imate does but no change again...
Seems that there will be setting change on magician, not on pc..
Any suggestion?
Let check the connection settings in ActiveSync. (menu File). Set the value of "this computer is connected to" dialog to "The Internet".
I have solved my same problems by this way.
Experienced the same, it was actually a firewall issue.
Resolved mine (Norton Insternet Security) through:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/norton.mspx
For other firewalls or other possible solutions have a look at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
Cheers,
I tried both solutions above and also format my imate. But it is inconsistent. Sometimes conencts, sometimes does not.

Hi all,
Just spent a VERY frustrating day - read all i could find and learned much more than I wanted to know about PCs (I use a MAc).
Upgraded to wm5 using Build 14343. Now I cannot load anything into the phone using Activesync OR Missing Sync. Activesync won't recognise the phone at all, and I tried every suggestion on the boards - firewall ports, tcp/ip, reinstalling 4.5 then back to 4.2.
It's interesting that Missing Sync (Mac) will recognise and sync but won't allow me to install - .cabs just vanish into the ether.
Is WM5 actually worth it all? It seems like I've lost a lot of useful capability (buttons, camera, etc) for no great reason.
Any solves greatly appreciated. Now I'm going to bed.

Baniaczek's WM5 ROM is great for me. It has tons of things way better than the original Wm2003. Connects to ActiveSync without a problem. Try to put that one on the device.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM5_Home
Better File Same problem
I've upgraded the ROM.
Still no activesync. Ran the troubleshooter.
Said there's an issue with RNDIS not giving an IP address.
I've checked the LAN connection in Network settings but it won't repair.
I'm not even sure that Activesync created the link as there doesn't seem to be the "Connect using WM device" that it says should be there.
What now?
*&^%$* WinDoze. Roll on iPhone OSX.
Ahh. This is clearly an issue with the PC. If you were able to upgrade the rom - that prooves that your cable and your BA is okay. There must be some Antivirus, or Firewall problem. If you're using BitDefender Antivirus, for example, this is a known issue. You need to update it. Other antiviruses/firewalls may have similar issues.
Try to move to another PC, or reinstall your Windows PC. This problem is not related to your BA.
Another idea:
Unplug device, then
Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC:
Disable the Advanced network functionality > ok
Plug it back
This will make your PDA connect to the PC via a Serial link (Like Wm2003 used to), rather than a network link (Like WM5 uses to).
It's still a PC problem though.
reflash again your pda.
today i had the same problem after one clean intall.
upgraded again with the same rom (the one you can see in my signature) and now, i am able to use active synch.
Ok Some Progress
I disabled the "advanced network functionality".
Active Sync no luck - it isn't correctly installing the hardware in Virtual PC on the Mac. I don't know why.
However, Missing Sync now actually begins to load activesync on the PPC, and then gives this message:
"Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. The communications port is not available. Another program may be using the port, or it may not be valid.
Quit any programs that may be using the port and reconnect. If the problem persists, restart your device using hte instructions provided by the manufacturer."
I remember reading somewhere that Baniaczek had assigned certain ports to certain things. How do I find out which it wants and change it?
thanks guys, we may lick this yet.
Paul D
Same message in VPC
Hooray,
I now get the same message in Virtual PC, after disabling "Virtual switch networking" and restarting the PC.
This means that the issue is now the port on the PPC.
PaulD
That's great..
I don't think so...
In baniaczek's rom, COM6 is assigned to shared GPS, but that can be easily changed from the settings, by setting it to none.
Go with your BA to a real PC that has only WinXP and ActiveSync installed, and nothing else (especially no Antiviruses). And no virtual PC's, as they depend on the host os! It's normal, because if your host OS can't connect, the virtual OS inside will have the same door closed.
I had the same problem before, and I definitely state that this is a PC problem, not a device problem. Same hardware connected to a different PC, will work, you'll see...
Reflashing the rom may help, as it will be detected as a new harware, that your system will let in. But you say you already did that...
Won't actually solve the problem
If I had a PC, that would be the easy solve. I don't, and really need the &$# thing to work on the machine I have.
For the moment I went back to the original Mamaich 14343. I can get .cabs into the phone via the card reader (the original problem on the Mac is that Missing Sync 3.0.2 has installing issues).
that doesn't allow me to load .exe, for which I need activesync, on my Mac, which runs VPC 7.0.2.
I really need to find out why VPC isn't working with TCP/IP.
Baniaczek's ROM is the best apparently, but has a com issue. It is also much easier to installl than any others I've found. I tried Xplode's ROM kitchen but the exe file wont run.
Paul D
hey, reinstall again the rom!
OK OK
Ok Sandstorm, I'll try it when I get the chance. At the moment the phone works but this ROMisn't as good as Baniaczek's.
Thankx for the tips
PauL D
Device won't install
Ok Internet works. TCP/IP works.
Issue now is that the device won't install properly - keeps giving a #10 error (device won't start).
So I can't reflash the ROM or anything until I get XP recognising the connection.
Paul D
turn on the upgrade program, "kill" the active synch running processes in your xp taskmanager, set the device in "bootloader" mode, place it in the crade and run the upgrade.
When i do my upgrades, i never do them with active synch enabled.
upgraded ROM again
Upgraded again - still no change
I flashed again to Baniaczek's ROM. Still will not install correctly in VPC. XP says I have a Generic Blue Angel connected via USB, but will NOT install the WM5 device.
Is this a COM port issue? Can I change that (details please)? For some reason, VPC simply won't recognise the WM5.
I have turned off "Advanced network connections" on the XDA. Nothing. Turned it back on.
I have it set to: server-assigned Ip address.
I have tried to change the IP settings manually, but never had a response. I might fiddle with that again.
AAAAAARRRGH!
thanks all,
Paul D
I have recently reinstalled windows on my computer, and have upgraded to Activesync 4.5 as the other versions are no longer available. When I sync my pda with activesync, I put it in its controller and it syncs email etc... fine.
Then I do something on my desktop and leave it there - I work at home so I want it constantly syncing with my outlook
About 5 minutes after sync, it disconnects, and I have to take it out of its cradle and put it back in again - very annoying!
I am not sure if I have missed some "turn off if inactive for" setting, but I cant work this one out...
hardingt
same problem with me
I also encounter the same problem after I migrate my BA to WM6, any help guys ? thanks++++
same problem
anyone have any ideas?
I've got a similar problem with my hermes.
Funny, my old angel doesn't have this problem tho.
Anyway, try turning off the 'advanced network functionality' and see if that makes it any more stable.
Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Other 'fixes' I've seen mentioned are:
Soft reset the phone
Uninstall, reboot, reinstall ActiveSync
Delete the association between the phone and computer, reestablish
IMO, activesync is a nasty hack that needs to be dragged out back and shot. Start with a clean code base, or make it a strictly backup solution with plugins for extra things, like syncing with outlook. That's how Palm does it, and I never had an issue with my old Palm Pilot not syncing.
Problem solved
turning off the 'advanced network functionality' in Settings-connections-USB to PC solved my Activesync 4.5 - Connection keeps turning off problem.
Thanks to jdc
Antivirus
Turn off your antivirus or other security programs . it helped me to connect . I turned off eset smart security on my pc and my BA became connected .

That's another possibility.
when the 'advanced network functionality' thing is enabled, it enabled the RNDIS part, which makes the phone part of a private network that exists between the phone and the activesync program. Any communication to the phone is then done over a 'network bridge' of sorts. If a firewall or other network security program is running and has not been told to allow that traffic, it will block it and the whole thing will not work.
For the record, I downloaded activesync again and did the 'uninstall, reinstall, doo-da, doo-da' dance. After it reapplied some USB hotfixes that I don't recall from the first time I installed it, my RNDIS dropping issues have gone away.
Of course, it would by nice if microsoft would post the version and build number so we know if there has been an update to it...
EDIT: ...and it looks like I spoke too soon. Sometimes the enhanced network function stuff doesn't kill the connection, other times it does. Bluetooth and USB-serial connections are solid. I'm about ready to trash this hack program and find a 3rd party sync application. This is getting st00pid IMO... Grrr...
I've flashed to a faulty WM 6.0 ROM and now can't ActiveSync to my Trinity to undo/correct. It's attempting to connect (so registering the presence of the device on the USB port) but then failing.
Anyone had similar problems? And has a fix?
I haven't tried wm6 yet but i had a similar problem with wm5. The solution that worked for me was to go start/settins/connections/ usb to pc. In the usb to pc bit there is a box next to the words "enable advanced network functionality". Mine was ticked and i un-ticked it, then connected to active-sync with no problems. Hope this helps.
I had a similar problem, but only in Vista. My XP laptop worked fine.
My solution was the exact opposite. i.e. to Turn on the advanced setting for USB connection- In WM6 that is.
I meant to add, why do you say "faulty WM6" ROM? You mean it's buggy, or you had a problem during flashing?
Active Sync problem/USB settings
Hey - thanks both of you for replying.
The checkbox in the USB to PC setting - I've tried this both ways, to no avail. I have noticed that checking 'Enable advanced network functionality' creates a network connection on the desktop computer that is totally unhelpful.
I've also tried using both AS 4.2 and 4.5.
By 'buggy' - it seemed to flash successfully, but there are some bugs in the OS. The most annoying one is that the Connection Manager doesn't have a background and is transparent, so when it's stacked over another application window you can't see the text and you can see right through it. Photos taken with the camera save to the wrong location, the Today screen has no background (so again, white text is illegible), and the Tweak UI program doesn't work.
SO - I need to flash a different ROM, and the Active Sync problem is preventing this.
I have my PDA plugged into my PC at work and I have to use a proxy to get out to the internet. I am trying to figure out how to make this work.
I have added the registry entry on my PC.
I have set the connection settings in activesync including "This computer is connected to:" to all 3 options
I have tried to set up the proxy on my PDA
I have tried both WM6.0 and 6.1 ROMs
I have tried different radios
I have searched the Forums but if I missed something let me know
Any help would be great

Here is the solution:
Open Registry Editor on your desktop (Start/Run and type "regedit") and locate the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services. Right-click on the value list
and choose New/DWORD value. Type the name "AllowLSP" and leave the value zero.
Disconnect and connect your device and Pocket Internet Explorer (and all other
applications) will start working.

I'm not 100 % positive that this is the same issue you're having but I have a weird issue where my proxy from my work PC gets put on my phone regardless of what settings i tweak. My work blocks things like gmail and hotmail so whenever i try to access those on my phone it tries to put use my PC's internet and blocks it. If this is the issue you're having read my post#7 on this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360268
This isn't obviously the easiest way to fix this but i tried EVERYTHING and finally find out how to fix it so i do it this way.
Hope this helps. Is this what is happening for you?

I already disabled the network functionality for activesync. I also did the registry update mentioned above. If I go to pocketIE it will act like it is trying to load then it will say "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later"
It seems like it goes to the DNS and gets the IP but from there it stops working.
Intranet sites work but not Internet sites. Any idea on the proxy settings?
So, are you trying to get your phone's internet source to work on your phone while connected to your PC? Or are you trying to get the internet FROM your PC to work ON your PPC?
I am trying to get the internet working from the pc to the pda.
I tried this ROM and it seems to be working now.
You still have to go into connections and set it to "my work network" and then edit it and add the proxy settings.
Thanks for the help.
Tried this on two PCs with Activesync on now...
When I connect, the phone pops up the message about whether to use activesync or disk. If I choose disk, I can happily copy stuff from PC to phone.
However, if I choose activesync, it doesnt connect on the PC. I've tried manually connecting activesync on the PC, but it just doesnt find the phone.
Any ideas?
Did you use bluetooth to sync on that pc? If I sync over bluetooth and after that I try to sync by wire I get the same problem as you discribe .
I didn't try to find a way out just keep on syncing true bluetooth but one of the solutions maid be to remove the phone from active sync at your pc and setup a new connecion.
Willem
Nah. Just USB.
I just installed active sync for first time on my laptop here and it wont find. I'm wondering if its something on the actual phone I've deleted or something ?
Hi
Do you use Windows XP or Vista?
On Vista there are many problems but almost all are solved now just do a search on sync Vista in this forum and you maid find the solution.
Willem
Hi guys, I have similar problem. I can sync over BT but does not work over USB.
This problem is on my Vista laptop .
If I connect device with USB, I can find "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" in Device manager. In Network center, I can find new connection using this WMR adapter. But system is not able to assign IP adress for this connection.
Thats probably a reason why sync does not work.
I was trying reinstall Windows mobile center, disable antivirus, firewalls, update drivers...everything. Still does not work.
Any hints are appreciated.
Thanks Ladis
I have the same issue with windows vista and dutty 3.6 rom. It worked fine last time I tried in December, but I tried again yesterday and stopped working...
i have Duttys 3.6b, it was working perfectly. Stopped working after Vista reinstall... so its pretty weird
I found when using my laptop in battery mode activesync wont work but as soon as i switch to high performance mode everything is fine i guess its to do with voltage to the usb in diffeent modes
I'll probably try to flash there last Dutty's ROM V4 and see if there is some different
Hi,
I had the same problem when i change the ROM.
Go to Start -> Configuration -> Connections -> USBtoPC and below ActiveSync appers a sentence and comment to uncheck this item if you are facing problems with ActiveSync.
Test it.

This worked, strange that this setting is changed when you setup a bluetooth connection.
