I'm coming from a Samsung Blackjack, and I have to say the one thing I miss is how I can pretty effortlessly navigate the blackjack with one hand.
I am getting better with Kaiser (AT&T Tilt for me), and most of the inconvenience is simply that I always have to slide out the keyboard to do text messaging. I could do this one handed on the blackjack with a lot more ease (text messaging). I leave the tilt keyboard extended at my desk so I can pick it up to reply to text messaging without having to first extend the keyboard.
I've been able to navigate about in the Kaiser save one thing I would like to accomplish. I wish there was a hard button to activate the HTC X in the top right hand corner so I can physically exit programs without having to take out the stylus.
Anybody have any ideas?
Any other tips about one handed operation would be appreciated.

if you go to settings-buttons- and you will see that there is option for buttons to asssigne them to diffirent commands..ok/close button is also there..or when you want to close apps..you can hit ok button by the keypad..does the same..
A program that really helps me one handed operating is PocketCM.
you can iniate calls much easier esp to favorites
i have toyed with Pocket Keyboard by the same guy.
Just do a search for PocketCM - there are several threads that have links
for me what i do is i set the phone to landscape and use the hard buttons. when i need to use the keyboard i slide it out. its already in the correct orientation. this also solves the switch "lag"
With 128 MB of RAM, you seriously do not need to worry about completely exiting programs.

Hi!
I know someone's probably asked this before, but is anyone using the SPB Pocket Plus, with its myriad of plugins? What is your take on it, is it something worth getting?
Also, when you use it, is it still possible to display the time on the today screen, just like its displayed in the HTC home plugin? (would you need to buy their time plugin along with it?)
What plugins would you recommend to be a must have?
Thanks in advance!
Ughhh! If you know it's been asked before then why did you ask again?
Yes, a lot of people use it. SPB has good stuff. You can still display the time and don't need the SPB Time program.
Search for "must have plugins" and get a better answer than just posting the question.
do we really need rude unhelpful replies like this...
i,ve had it & wasn,t too impressed...too many small buttons which can be found just as easily by going throu the menu
It is a matter of preference. I find it useful to the extent that I do not like a cluttered home screen. So, I have seven tabs - six of which open programs (five programs assigned to a tab) - and the seventh (a smiley) in the center which has nothing assigned and gives my home screen nearly 2/3rds of an empty screen so I can display photos, themes, etc., and be able to see them, rather then having them covered with icons, symbols, etc.
I tried them all but only use a few of them. The back up program I use all the time so much better than sprite backup. I like the options that come with Pocket Plus but i disable the today screen plugin cause to me it clutters it up. I also really like the diary program that i use the most.
SPB
I went for SPB after hating the HTC ones. I like the customizability(?) of the SPB screen (although I wish I could increase icon size to be uniform [added ones are smaller than default ones] and add captions])
I was a little unimpressed at first, but then I found out how to really use it to my advantage. I was able to add the HSDPA (H) icon to the home screen as a shortcut to enabling/disabling H connection!
I use it too and like it, but then again I've been using Spb software for years now and really got used to it.
- Pocket Plus (v4) - Top of my Today Screen
- Diary - right under Pocket Plus on my today Screen, fills most of the screen
- Backup - runs every night at 3am with 3 copies kept on SD Card
- Spb Insight - great RSS reader also for offline
- Spb Weather - since I don't use the HTC Today plugin with weather
- Spb Brain Evolution - Game
- Spb Mobile DVD - used to have it but don't need it for TyTN II (400MHz)
- Spb Mobile Shell - Didn't like it
- Spb Phone Suite - Didn't see the point of it
You can try all the SpB apps for 15days nad then just enter a serial nr...
Phone Suite is great because it allows you to set what profile you want.
You can fully edit profiles. The best is auto profile, it will switch to normal profile in normal circumstances, then into silent or meeting mode during a meeting (scheduled in the calendar) and then revert back to normal or loud profile. If you connect a headset it will switch to headset profile automatically.
Very user friendly.

May I ask how you did this? I would find that to be helpful. Thanks
thanks guys! I installed spb yesterday, and i'm trying to tweak it to make it work just the way I want it too. On one hand I feel, the HTC home plugin is simplistic, and sophisticated looking and i should stick with it, but on the other, i feel like the power of pocket plus is immense...i guess i just have to play around with it and find a nice balance!
just out of curiosity..adding all this stuff on the phone, does it make the standard operations slower?
Update: Version 2 of this can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2905629
Hello,
I have always fumbled to get to the mute button on the phone screen while on conference calls and decided to look for a program to map to a hardware button to mute/unmute a call. I did not have much luck finding anything so I went ahead and wrote my own. This forum has helped me out tremendously in the past, so I decided to share my program here with the hopes that it can help someone else out.
I made the program fairly configurable. If a call is in progress, it will toggle the mute button. If a call is not in progress, it can be configured to run any other program of your choice (that way the hardware button isn’t wasted).
I did not write a configuration utility, so you have to configure it manually in the registry. Here are the registry details.
HKLM\Software\itsallwright\MobileMute
Options:
BringPhoneToFront = 1 or 0 (If 1 then it will bring to phone app into focus when it runs)
MuteSound = DialPadCtlKey (this is the system sound that is played when the program mutes the call)
PlaySound = 1 or 0 (if 1 then it will play the mute/unmute sounds)
RunProgram = 1 or 0 (if 1 then it will run the configured program if a call is not detected)
RunProgramPath = \somepath (path to desired program to run)
UnmuteSound = DialPadCtlKey (this is the system sound that is played when the program unmutes the call)
Config: (this is how it works – hopefully does not need to be changed, but can be for different devices)
ConnectedText = Connected: (this is the text that shows in the dialer when a call is in progress)
LastCallText = Last Call: (this is the text that shows in the dialer when a call is not in progress)
MuteButtonText = Mute (the text of the mute button)
MuteID = 0x53A0 (ID of the mute button – use spy program to get this)
PhoneWindowTitle = Phone (title of the dialer)
UnmuteButtonText = Unmute (text of the unmute button)
UnmuteID = 0x53A1 (ID of the unmute button – use spy program to get this)
I have tested this on my Kaiser with the default ATT WM6 ROM and on a friend’s Apache with an unknown WM6 ROM.
BTW - this is my first WM application, so don't beat me up too bad if it is not perfect
Enjoy,
Jay
This is very useful and should be posted in the general PPC software areas, why keep this secret for only those in the Kaiser forums?!
This seems to be exactly what I'm looking for...thanks!
Anybody try this on a titan/mogul/xv6800 yet?? I'll have to do some research to figure out my 'button ID', but it looks like it will be well worth it!!!
Excellent....
I have been looking for this functionlity of hard button mapping of call mute. I was hoping MS would implement a virtual key code for the mute function in the newer wm like for the speakerphone but never happened.
Thanks much itsallwright. It works perfect in my tilt. Now, I can use hard buttons for speakerphone & mute (long press green key and I have mapped PTT key for mute.) It was one of the most of useful things I was missing from my BB. Specially for that long conference calls where you have to occasionally say something and keep quite rest of the time.

That is a good point. It was developed for the Kaiser, but theoretically should work on any WM6 device with phone functionality (button IDs might change from device to device though). Unfortunately, I do not know how to move threads. Is it possible to move this to a better place?

Thanks a Million!
I have been searching without success for ages...more than 2 years for something like this. Search terms I used were "wm6 hardware mute button", "wm6 mute and speakerphone buttons on single dialer page", "assign hardware button for mute", "wm6 phone mute button on dialer", etc
Since there are not any apps to do this, I was attempting to use a combination of utilities (such as VJ Phone utils, AE Button Plus, Vito button mapper, etc) to try and get it working without any success. There does not even seem to be available paid non-freeware utils to do this most important function.
This certainly helps a lot. It works just perfect on my Cingular 8525 and I have the PTT button assigned to it with flashlight being the alternate application that will be used when not in phone mode.
Couple of suggestions:
1) This might already exist in some other utility, but I like your configuration capabilities and the way this utility sets up and it will be nice to extend it to have a speakerphone hardware button in a similar fashion. I guess I can do this on my own by making a copy of your registry keys and modifying them to the speakerphone code...will try and see.
2) When I am in the phone dialer with the keypad, and I press the mute button it switches to the alternate screen without the dialer numeric keys - only the mute, speakerphone etc buttons are available on that screen. Is there a way to make it do its thing without switching the dialer screen in this manner ? This is because I need to have the key pad ready when I either toggle from mute or speakerphone and back and I guess this will be most useful for people who are on conference calls all the time.
Thanks again for a wonderful must-have utility. Dialer developers and ROM cookers should consider having this standard part of distributions. Or give an option to users to have a single screen for the dialer instead of one for the keypad and another for the call staus. There is so much real estate on the phone screen that is wasted if a video call is not in progress and it can very well be used to have all the buttons on a single screen.
Harish
I am glad you like the app and that someone else will get some use out of it.

pvenkat stated above that he long presses the green talk key to toggle speaker phone. That seems to work well for me. Does that not work on your phone?

The reason it covers the keypad when you toggle mute it because the BringPhoneToFront setting is set to 1. Try setting it to 0 and it will not interfere with your windows.

Works Like a Charm
Thanks!
Life-changing app if you're on a lot of con calls.
Sweet app!!!
I was unable to install it with the instructions you provided...
But... happily, I was able to find a way around to do it
In case anyone is interested in the approach I took for the setup. Here it is:
My easy to do manual setup
1) Extract the .cab file contents (tools like winrar can do that)
2) rename the mobile~1.001 to MutePhone.exe (or whatever .exe name you want to give it)
3) Upload the exe to your phone to the directory where you want to place it.
4) Install Schap's tools - Advanced Configuration Tool 3.2 released (Link)
5) Use the keymapping feature of the app to map a key to the MutePhone.exe. My personal preference was to map it to pressing and hold the send key (Long press Send key)
Have fun with the MutePhone tool. itsallwright really created an awesome application

I have written a MobileMute_v2 and am getting ready to post it here. I will try to post instructions to getting your button IDs at that time.

Is there a way to just execute this and have it toggle mute/unmute without hardware mapping a key and perhaps without staying resident... or are there any future plans to allow command-line execution? -- I am trying to figure out how to be able to mute/unmute the calls from another app (mortscript) in order to eventually create an ad-hoc music-on-hold function. ;-)
Thanks

Yes, that is how this version of the program works. When it starts, it will detect if a call is in progress. If so, it will toggle the mute button and then exit.
v2 is the one that stays resident to eliminate the delay caused by the program initializing. But it only stays resident if it can detect the hardware button used. Otherwise, it functions just like this version.
While writing v2, I found a couple bugs in this version. One being that the setting for button IDs is ignored. So if you need to change button IDs, get MobileMute_v2
Good Luck,
Jay
Hi all,
Bought my kaiser around a month ago and I'm very happy with it in general, but I feel the phone software is quite inadequate (unless I'm missing something obvious).
What I mean is that I love the ppc, but when it's supposed to be a phone, I want it to act JUST like a phone - no other crap on the screen, easy to use when it's clicked into a car cradle when driving.
Specifics:
It'd be brilliant if when I receive a call, the kaiser would flick to fullscreen with
(a) large fonts
(b) a big customisable contact pic of who's calling
(c) Caller's name/number
(d) BIG, simple buttons to answer/reject.
(e) nothing else!
I have searched the forums, I've tried so many pieces of software (fffriends etc) and I've flashed my phone with some of the excellent roms available here, but for me, unless I can find a solution to this 'problem', I'm always going to be disappointed with this device.
Any help most welcome, thank you!
I'm not sure if you've tried it yet, but PhotoContacts Pro used to have the fullscreen caller ID you're looking for, as well as a good photo dialer for making calls. I used to use it on my ols wm2003 ipaq, since 2003 didn't support caller ID photos. I remember being able to choose between small pic, large pic, and fullscreen. I haven't tried the latest one yet, as the kaiser has photo caller ID support and I have different needs from yours, but I can't imagine that they would have removed that bit.
hope this helps

I'm taking a look now, thank you. I must say, so far this looks like it solves at least part of the problem - the incoming call feature is *exactly* what I was wanting.
Much appreciated
Now I guess I just need a better dialler application of some kind. I'd like a full screen dialler, with *nothing* D) on it aside from
(a) Numbers
(b) a button for accessing contacts.
I hate having to use a fingernail to hit a teeny little 'contacts' button - if I'm in the car or walking, I want to feel like I'm using a phone, not something I need a stylus for.
Any input most welcome.
the s2u2 slide to unlock program features a setting where you can also slide to answer. it also displays the contact picture in full screen when someone is calling. its large and easy to work with

I enjoy MinimalDialer. Big Buttons. Easy to Tweak.

My Niki just crapped out and I'm thinking about upgrading to the diamond (US model). My question is whether or not this is worth the money?? Any thoughts are appreciated.
Yes
.........
what do you/don't you like about it?
What I like is the compact size that I can comfortably put in a pocket or clip on my belt with a Diamond case. Another nice reason is the built-in support for H.264 (MP4) video playback.
I upgraded a few days ago from the Trinity.
I'm currently just about keeping it. My thoughts are-
Plus points versus Trinity -
Size;
VGA;
Motion sensor;
light sensor.
I can't think of much else...
Negative points -
Lack of hardware buttons is very annoying;
I think that the screen being 'flush' instead of slightly recessed is bad, so easy to activate progs/call in your pocket, but;
The screen seems to require a lot of pressure to activate;
it lags a bit, but this seems to be a feature of newer deivces, my wizard was the quickest with a 200MHz processor, then the Trinity with 400 then the Diamond after;
I don't like the stock UI, if you don't want the touchFlo home screen, it's awkard to navigate, if you're in a program and want to launch another, you can't, unless you have very long fingers and can reach the start icon and have tha program you want in the menu (such as really close the current app);
buttons, I think having a button which only goes to the home screen is stupid, why not have the button open the start menu, beacuse today is the automatic selected option, I always had a button to close any currently active window (real close not min), a device lock, and wm5newmenu with a lot of shortcuts/commandlines etc. the two phone keys and power key are configurable, but on long press only, and the end key and power keys only with a reg hack;
the scroll wheel does nothing except zoom on a few programs like word and excel, unless you use a reg hack prog and even then it doesn't give feedback, like pressing a button or a scroll wheel 5 clicks would move you 5 places, it's less exact and you have to watch it to make sure it goes where you want. it also doesn't work even with the hacks on some things like the start menu;
I'm using fTouchflo and morscript to overcome the navigation limits, but even fTouchflo is hit and miss because of the amount of pressure required to launch a prog, and as there is no housing around the screen, finding the start of the screen is harder;
Internal storage is not as good as having a storage card 4 times the size, and for me re-coding all my shortcuts and scripts to the 'internal storage' address instead of 'storage card' was a real pain.
I'm assuming that many of the 'problems' i have will be solved eventually by people here and that i will get used to it, so I'm going to keep it.
i love my trinity too
just flash the diamond and you will be happy

If you're talking to me (or the OP), I was planning to. I'm on my 3rd ppc now and I have everything setup how I like it, but the diamond seems harder to do it as i like, but it's a better ppc. I'm playing with the settings, then when i have it right, i'll probably flash then.
The LG VU is an awesome phone!!!
