T-Mobile MDA III ROM over SPV2000??? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I have recently upgraded my SPV M2000 to the M5000 and have donated (for a small sum), my old M2000 to my mother-in-law.
I was wondering, if I could flash the orange branded phone as it is with a t-mobile or generic flash.
I have a few reasons for this, mainly the orange software that is bundled is causing all sorts of problems with T-mobile, and also, that each time you reset the phone, it loads them all back on!
The current information on the device is;
Operator Version : 5.31.1.124
ROM Version : 1.31.00 WWE
ROM Date : 12/13/04
Radio Version : 1.06.02
Protocol Version : 1337.38
ExtROM Version : 1.31.124 WWE
Thanks in advance.

Hi
You need to spend some time in wiki and the ext rom kitchen to understand the branding (its the EXT rom that has all of that).
So if you dont wont to reload everything when you hard reset then you need to flush the ext rom or only have what you need in it. We call it cooking.

Trying to Update SX66: Error 120: Country ID Error XHWOF568-

I downloaded the ROM Update from the Siemens Website and tried to update my new SX66 (Just purchased from Cingular on the 10th, on an AT&T plan and SIM card still)
When I ran the update I received the Error:
"Error 120: Country ID Error XHWOF568-XHWOF568-50-50-50. The ROM image that you are trying to use is not designed to work with your device. Please check the Vendor Website and download the correct ROM update"
I contacted Siemens & they replied with: "Version 1.14.110 is the original version, and 1.33.110 is the updated version for Cingular customers.
If your version is 1.32.115, then you have the AT&T variant and your SX66 already has the latest ROM version installed. If you have any other version that is not listed and you get this error, then the update does not pertain to your version of phone."
So what does the error really mean? I've seen the Fix to add the line to the RUU.conf file, but unsure as to what the error really is telling me.
So do I have an Old phone? Should I return it and get a Cingular Plan Phone? Others at my office have the Cingular Plan/SIM SX66 and can install the 1.33.110 ROM with no issues...
If I install the 1.40.00 ROM will it work with my AT&T variant?
I'm still under my 30 days with Cingular to return the phone.
Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I have been to the wiki.xda-developers.com website and have seen the work around for this.
I'm curious as to the ramifications of changing the Country ID if I have issues with the phone in the future if/when I change to a Cingular SIM/Plan
Thanks,

Scott
The work arounds of the Country code ID and Carrier ID are only to insure that you can flash your device with a rom that is not from your carrier.
The Idea of the carriers is not to produce an Upgrade of a rom and let other non same carriers users flash that. (well thats there idea)
This we don't like as most carriers don't provide the upgrades or if they do not in a language that you want them.
----> Hence the tool that FIXES that small issue.
The CE and radio rom is the same across all version,
Its the EXT rom that has the meat in it thus it needs to be cooked.
If you have issues with your device that you can't solve with a rom upgrade or cooking then you need to be able to flash the Providers rom back onto it.
This gives the Techys in the shop the warm feeling that the phone has not been messed with.
I have a baked rom, all three components are from different sources, it was shipped in Germany in German, is now WWE Rom and has swiss Sim.
If I need to take it back to Geramany I flash a T-mobile upgrqade on it and I am off.
Hope this helps

I've read the Getting Started section but im still stuck!!

Hi,
I just bought a year old T-Mobile MDA111 from Germany and need to change the operating system to WWE. I downloaded the Getdevicedata.exe file but cant seem to get it to work (probably since i dont understand german!). I tried copying it to ( \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\XDA-Tools\ ) but couldnt find \XDA-tools. Even when i saved it in programs and ran it from there it did not work.
I managed to figure out the following though:
Model: PH20B
Language: GER
Oerator code: T-MOB 101
ROM: 1.06.01
Ext. ROM: 1.06.115
Radio: 1.00.00
Could anyone help me!!

Click to collapse
I managed to find the DeviceData.txt which gave me the following - PH20B O B GER R T-MOB101 1.06.01 01 1.06.115 1.00.00 00.00
I have now downloaded the following : BA_TMUK_14200_112_11300_Ship
I also managed to use editfix.bat to edit the correct details and i dont think i saw any errors.
BUT.... once i tried running BAUpgrade, i got this error - Radio Image file checksum error
What now??
The 1.42 rom that you downloaded is a type II rom thus the editfixbat will not work (you will get an ERROR in the dos window).
The best is just follow the upgrage instructions of the 1.42 rom as per wiki, it will work and you will end up with a WWE device that is branded by that operator.
Then all you need to do is play in wiki the extended rom kitchen.
Thanks,
Since that post, i tried updating to the current German T-Mobile ROM and this was successful.
Do you think i would be able to manage just the same if i download the Dutch or UK version and work with those? I am currently downloading the following:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_11300_SHIP/BA_TMNL_14200_115_11300_Ship.exe
Dear MDA111user, i hate bothering people but you seem to be the one who can really help me!
I followed the upgrade instructions as per wiki as you told me but i am still getting errors. Do you know which would be the best ROM to use since i need to change language from GER to WWE?

There is no BEST rom, some of us like the 1.31 others 1.40 and others the 1.42. Can't tell you what to do only what I have done, and I have had them all.
Can't help you on the errors unless you tell me what they are. The wiki update page is tried and tested and works, well did for me and many others.
The getting started was written based on Type I roms, Now we have type II and we bypass the county code error with the MA_noID....exe file.
So if you want more help you need to tell us what you have done and what went wrong.

help to solve my confusion on wizard rom upgrade

I bought an english i-mate k-jam, actual situation:
ROM: 2.16.9.1 WWE
ROM DATE: 2/6/06
RADIO: 02.07.10
PROTOCOL: 413.1.03
EXTROM: 2.16.9.101
now It seems not locked because even if from UK I tried to make some call with my italian SIM and it works.
What I want to do now is:
- backup on file the actual situation (ROM version) so if I need to sell or return it I can put it back as original
- upgrade it with tha last italian ROM from IMATE, so I'll have everything in my language
thanx
1) CID Unlock your device.
2) Search the forum for ROM backup and use one of the many utilities to backup your ROM to SD card.
i think it ia already CID unlocked (i can use my italian sim).
i'd like to backup on a file on pc since I don't have any mini-sd
thanx
Do some searches and you'll find that CID unlocking is NOT the same as SIM unlocking.
If you want to back up your ROM you need to buy a MiniSD card. If you don't want to buy a card, you're not backing up your ROM.
This is all here in the forum.

Help required for Updating my MDA Vario (UK)

Dear All
I will appreciate if anyone of you can help me with this query.
I have a T Mobile MDA Vario (UK) and would like to upgrade it to WM6, i have got the upgrade ROM from T Mobile US website but when i ran it the error was "INVALID VENDOR ID" .
The details of my phone are
MDA Vario (UK)
ROM Version 2.21.2.6 WWE
ROM date: 3/9/06
Radio Version 02.19.11
Protocol Version 4.1.13.09
Ext ROM Version 2.21.2.109
And for you all its a G4 device.
Looking forward to hearing from all you experienced professionals.
Wizard doesnt have official WM6, the one your got probably is for Dash.
And, I'm not sure if you can flash a US ROM to a UK phone without CID unlocking your phone. Invalid Vendor ID usually mean the CID-Lock on your phone is preventing it form flashing.
Thanks Hanmin
I am not sure mate, when i logged onto T Mobile USA website i choose MDA upgrade but since i have not being able to do it, can you suggest what shall i do now.
Hmm.. I did a check, it is rather interesting as there isn't really knew regarding WM6 upgrade for Wizard from T-Mobile. It is referred as MR1, which is different from AKU, but from what it is said, chances is, it is AKU, not WM6.
Usually, you ought to be able to download stuff from here
http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html
which, as of today (12 May 07), it is still the AKU update. I've updated my Vario UK with this one, it works. Anyway, from what I get from your phone info, yours is already AKU.
Many thanks Hanmin
I think then this is what i got, how can i get an upgrade for WM6 mate? any clues or help will be much appreciated.
