Is there a way to format the PDA and reinstall a ROM. My PH20B1 is started to freeze after a ROM is installed and at Complete on the Setup for minutes. I end up just soft-resting cause after mins past its not doing anything....Is there a way to fix that???
Isn't it supposed to be like that? You're supposed to reset after the ROM upgrade shows 100% complete.
I think I understand the problem you have from the limited information supplied.
You have rebooted to a white screen after a failed rom upgrade, correct?
If so, just disconnect your device from the PC, hold power+record buttons, then prod the reset hole with your stylus. You will see "Serial v2.xx" where "xx" can vary. Now attach the phone to your PC (device now shows "USB" instead of "serial").
Next, kill off all activesync processes on the PC (ctrl-alt-del to enter task manager, then end task on "rapimgr.exe", "wcescomm.exe", "wcesmgr.exe").
Now that the device is attached and activesync is killed, start the ROM upgrader application to update the phone ROM.
After successful upgrade, it often helps to reboot the PC as well as the phone, as activesync does not always recover well from having its processes killed.
Im saying that My PDA is starting to freeze. Even after running, its starting to freeze up and I have to soft reset it. I am able to install a ROM on it however at the end of installing the ROM where the screens says COMPLETE...Tap to continue ro begin using your device...and its starts the ROM....As soon as I tap the screen in the middle of starting WM5 it freezes... Ive even downgrade to Wm2oo3SE and it still freezes. But after soft resest there was a message about "system data is corrupted, System will erase all data to fix this error! Yes or No to fix"....Can that be fix or am I able to re-format the PDA hdd and reinstall WM2oo3SE or WM5?
Hi again,
This is a guess, so treat it as such, but I suspect that something in your extended ROM could be causing the problem. On first boot after reflash, a file "autorun.exe" is executed from the extended ROM, and this will normally install a bunch of CAB files.
If something in your extended ROM was corrupt or otherwise not correct, it could cause a lockup on first boot - immediately after calibrating the screen, setting the timezone etc, just as you describe.
The safest thing to do is to revert to the device's complete set of original ROMs, as found in this table :-
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Upgrades
The original ROM-set will restore the main ROM, extended ROM and radio ROM to the defaults.
If the problem is fixed afterwards, and you still feel brave enough to upgrade to WM5, then first repartition your device so that the extended ROM is empty. Instructions on how to do this from within WM2003 are found here :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50628
Figured Out A Solution
I figured out the problem and Im not sure if others have experienced this problem or not. Even if you dont created an extended rom on your Blue Angel when changing from rom to rom, if your screen tends to freezes after saying "tap on your screen to begin using your device" you will have to run the DOC repartitioning tool in the Prepartion Folder of some ROMS. Once running the program as the directions tells you and preform a reset even a hard reset on your device, everything will run fine without freezing.

I tried to flash my Qtek 9100 to WM6 using the flashing tutorial on this site.
I followed the steps in the tutorial. I downgraded to Buttons ROM, unlocked the CID, and then I flashed the 3.08 IPL/SPL in stead of the T-Mobile 2.26.
Then I tried to use farias kitchen to make a WM6 and flashed it to the phone.
Everything seemed to go smoothly, but when I tried to start the phone after flashing the 3.08 and farias' to the phone, the phone just hangs at the startup screen with the picture of the beer glass and the coloseum.
I've tried to downgrade to Buttons firmware and I've also tried the Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM, but it doesn't help. I'm still stuck at the welcome screen.
Is there anything I can do, or have I bricked my phone for good?
flash an original qtek rom to your phone then try to flash the rom again
Your phone isnt bricked (yet)
I've done that, but it doesn't help. Still just hangs at the SPL/IPL screen.
Solution (worked for me)
I found a solution while looking trough the forum
I was facing the same problem on a G3 phone
this is copied from that link except the link to MTTY.exe is different (previous one doesn't work
See (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307332)
1- I tought that a SD backup was needed, and yes it is. But u can use your own phone and your own SD to do it.
2- Get a clean SD card (in qtek 9100 / Htc Wizard case is MiniSD) with 128MB (some people say 64MB, but I personally used a 128MB, maybe a 64MB is enough)
3- Kill (task manager) wescomm.exe (this is related with activesync installed on your PC). Insert the blank SD card on the phone.
4- Get your phone in bootloader mode. Like this : Phone powered off, press Camera button + Power On, will enter in bootloader mode (RGB screen).
5- Now connect your USB cable to your phone. And start MTTY.exe ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=231190 ). After open, on Port selection, choose USB and press OK. A window will open with a blank sheet.
6- Type "r2sd all" and hit enter... wait to the end (at end shows "cmd>"). On your phone screen u can follow backup progress... small bar will appear down the RGB screen.
7- Power off the phone (or remove battery), enter bootloader mode (camera button + power on) and this time RGB won´t appear right away. Will ask if u want to "download SD image", press voice dial button to agree, and writting will begin. Wait to the end. Power off and power on normally. Now your phone should be working ok. Not even needed to reflash the phone after this.
I hope this helps you out
It worked for me (and other people if you look at the forums)
That solution was already known and was, in fact, discovered for the Wizard by a guy called 'Drugstore'
But what really matters is that this procedure only works if the device is already CID unlocked.
cheers
MDA Vario freezes at 2nd boot screen
I have the same problem. I flashed wm6.1 according to tutorial on this side. everything worked fine, until the time I uninstalled some application. after that my Vario froze. after soft reset it stopped on second screen (the one with info), and so it is anytime I try to reflash to other ROM. everything works fine until the time it shoud reboot.
I found this thread and tried the thing with backup image. everything worked, copying image to the phone ended with success. so I turned off the phone and started it again. but now, after all, I'm just back at the beginning
can somebody help me out with another solution??? pls.....
Try mtty

I didn't have chance to try this.... My Vario is already dead... Probably is my fault... As far, I wasn't able to flash to official T-mobile ROM, I did a backup copy to a SD card on my friends phone, and then tried to copy the image into mine... I'm afraid I destoyed bootloader this way After I turned off my phone first time after flashing, it didn't start again.... It doesn't react even to wall charger... Nothing... Just dead Vario

There is a post that suggest that somebody revives his batt with a wall charger, maybe is your batt... is dead... or your s is bricked.
I have a problem and I've search the forums and search google and I find people with somewhat of the same situation im in... but the methods to fix them don't work.
My problem is,
I have a T-Mobile WING (Herald)
I am flashed on soft SPL with SPL 4.70.Yang
I am ROM flashed to Touch-It WM6.1
I want to flash back to the stock T-Mobile Rom
I run the Stock RUU and it enters the bootloader and at 1% the wing resets
I then get a connection error 260 and the flash will not proceed.
I have tryed restarting my device/computer. unplugging my usb putting in another slot... and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated I'm really unhappy with Touch-It and want to go back to stock and do some customization that way.
you need to extract the .nbh file from the stock rom using 7-zip or winrar on the ruu executable. Make sure you don't extract the spl.nbh file. I think the file you want is something like RUU_signed.nbh
then put it into your HardSPL folder and flash away
Yep. Besides, 4.70.Yang is a HardSPL, not a softspl. If you want the SPL to also return back to stock for warranty issues, then just use USPL along with the tmobile NBH. If not, do what fzzyrn said for the best results.
Got to this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421304
Go to post #2 and download the Herald-USPL-beta3
extract the nbh file from your rom and place it in the ruu folder that is located in the flash center folder.
run the utility.

The S620 is not a herald and every phone is different, so I'm not sure if we could help you out. Does your phone have a HardSPL? Have you used HardSPL before? Even if the activesync icon doesn't start trying to sync it doesn't mean that it's not connected, it just means that it has nothing to sync (since it's in bootloader mode.)
I FIXED
I Did These Steps:
I Turned My Phone Off
I Pressed The Camera Icon Button
I Turned The Phone On (no Loose The Camera Button)
It Got Into Boot Mode
I Plugged To The Usb Cable
I Oppenned The Ruu For My Phone Version
And Wowla Fixed
Thank You Guys For Your Help
The Answer is in a Careful Search
This post is being made to you about... a month too late. But that's because I just got the Wing yesterday and started trying out roms today. Anyway, ran into the same problem earlier today and found the answer in the forums. I've written the following for those who might need all the steps. In your case, read from step 3. Anyway, in case you still have this problem, here's what you do:
1. Hold camera button when pressing the soft reset to get into the bootloader; it should be in red blue green and white. something like that.
2. Connect the usb to the computer and run the stock RUU Utility (this can be found on the official t-mobile website. look under something like support/downloads for the Tmobile Wing)
3. When it hits the 1%, the phone will automatically restart. When it does this, it breaks the connection between the computer and the phone. At that instant, hold the camera button and the soft reset button. Then, when you let go of the reset button, it should go back to boot loader.
4. At this point, the Rom Utility should give you the error. Do not take out the battery as instructed. Just disconnect the usb, reconnect the usb, wait for the computer to recognize it (it should appear in my computer) and then just continue the utility.
Good luck. =)
i had the same problem flashing my P4350 yesterday. tried a lot of different things, the solution for me was:
1. start flashing from the bootloader
2. just to hold the camera button when the phone restarted after 1% (nothing else, no soft reset or anything).
this resulted in the phone restarting in bootloader again, and after that it just resumed upgrading the rom.

This one works for me. Thx!
when i upgraded my xda2 from wm2003 to wm6 it was working fine but i didn't have 30.53 free storage so i use ather90 Hima DOC Partitioner and i did get 30.53 storage memory but after few minutes while i was installing some 3rd party softwares the device got stuck i tried to hard reset it but it wont give displaymad: backlight wont open only shows imate on black screen)and when i tried to upgrade my rom i got this error "DOC VERSION IS ERROR" in Bootloader mode
anyone having this error pls tell us about it and how to solve this error
sorry for being a complete noob....
hmm werid, which bootloader version do you have?
try do a hard reset by pressing Camera+Record button and reset
the version of bootloader is 1.06 and i have tried many times to hard reset it but when i select no yes yes nothing happens the screen go completely black and windows does not start and heres the best part when i remove battery for a day
and then upgrade new rom the device works fine until it gets hang and after hang when i try to soft reset or hard reset the device nothing happens the os wont start what so ever i try to do.I think i have done something wrong with DIsk on chip formating for getting 30.56 free storage and i did get 30.56 free storage with a "doc version is error"
try to reverse the process hopefully that should do it, or i'll consult buzzlightyear
yes i have revesed the whole process by upgrading to wm6.1 sade and then i reversed the whole process by running ather90 Hima DOC Partitioner and have done everything exactly so i again got 14.60 factory default storage but the device again got stuck after some hours of use and when i again soft, hard reset it nothing happens now i have to again upgrade the rom and wait for the windows to load so that i can again comeback to wm2003 (the most weired thing is why device is not affected by hard reset means nothing happens when i do a hard rest after the device stuck)
one more thing i can only see 14.60 storage in start>>settings>>system>>memory but i don't get access to 14.60 storage means i cannot see its root or path in file manager.
ok here i am posting a screen shot of its missing from file manager.
Please help, I was uninstalling some applications from my HTC PURE and had to restart the phone, when it was rebooting it hung at the ATT screen and there was small red text in the bottom left screen.
I had previously installed HardSPL 1.83 but relocked it via instructions in 2nd post because I'm still deciding if I wanna keep the phone and didn't wanna do anything for warrenty reasons.
I have the stock ROM and never installed anything except the HardSPL and the revert.
Please help me, I have tried to load the ATT Pure Stock/Shipped ROM I found here but everytime I try to in the bootloader mode it says either "no image file" or hangs at loading depending what I've tried to name the file. Also I've tried to run customruu.exe to install the stock ROM and also tried to install HardSPL 1.83 but it hangs at 0% and eventually wants to do recovery on the PC.
How do I fix this problem, and preferabbly get it back stock. I do have a warrenty, well unless I violated it by installing HardSPL then doing the revert.
Thanks

Of course you hard reset?
Make sure your SD card is formatted to Fat32 and you may mant to try a different card, 2gb - 4gb.
What does your SPL say now in bootloader mode?
Yes I tried a hard reset. I can try another sd card the one I used was fat32 and 2gb. I believe it says 1.33 can't look now but I know it's not the same as an untouched pure.

You are not the only one who is having this issue. I am frustrated beyond frustrated. How are other people flashing their out of the box ATT Pures using the same exact steps but I can't? It's making no sense.
1. I turn off firewalls.
2. I've tried both usb and sd card boot, didnt work
3. I installed the enablerapi cab
Nothing works and I am having the same problem you are having...it stays on 0% forever and it doesnt even prompt me saying there is an error it just sits on 0% until I unplug it...

Are you trying to HSPL or flash a ROM?
Well
According to what i've read, you have to do Hard SPL before you flash a rom, so i've been trying to HardSPL and it doesn't work! I even tried to skip the step and just flash the rom and it doesnt work..
Now, I also have an ATT Tilt to and I JUST flashed a rom 30 mins ago, so it has nothing to do with firewalls or anything as far as my computer goes, I think its the phone, so what can I do?
How to flash HSPL.

Its a good thing flashing the ROM didn't work, you'd be bricked.
For flashing HSPL, it seems that newer phones are having an issue.
Something may have been changed that is preventing the unlocker from working.
Do the following;
1. Hard Reset
Instructions:
- Soft reset with stylus
- Hold Vol up & Vol dwn simultaneously until white screen appears
- Following screen prompts, Press Vol up to confirm.
2. Go to bootloader mode.
Instructions:
- Turn off your device using the power button
- When the device is turned off, simultaneously press the Vol dwn + Power button
- Your device will startup in Bootloader mode
Should say SPL: 1.33 or something.
3. Sync your phone to your PC.
4. Install enablerapinew.cab
5. Unzip both Topaz_CustomRUU_v1.1.zip & SPL_183.zip to the same folder
6. Run the CustomRUU.exe
This process should install HSPL and now when you enter bootloader mode you should see something like SPL: 1.83 Olinex.
If so, you're ready to start flashing custom ROMs.
If not, please report all errors to the HSPL thread or PM Olipro.
**I take no responsibility for any loss of data or functionality of your device.**
See, the problem with your instructions are...
1. You cannot soft reset with the stylus, I don't see a button anywhere on the phone ( ATT PURE not Diamond 2 )
2. Holding Vol up & Vol down simultaneously until white screen appears doesn't work. The only thing that works is when I hold Vol Down and the screen with the colors come up, not a white screen.
So i'm still lost. Thanks for your help regardless. I just really want to flash a new rom so I can stop using this stupid slow ATT rom.
So basically you are messing with your Pure and don't know how to soft reset?
Remove the stylus and in the groove for the stylus is a red dot, that is the red reset button. Insert the tip of the stylus in the red dot and push. Now the Pure will soft reset.
Probably should familiarize yourself with the device before you finish turning it into a brick!
Oh wow. That is so hidden.
On my Touch Pro 2 its right there on the side where you can see it, with words.
Anyway, Thank you very much, i'll try that.
Still, what about the Up and Down button volume button function so I can go into bootloader mode?

Note- you have to hold the keys IMMEDIATELY after soft reset before the boot screen appears.

You'll get more help over there. There are many others having similar issues and there may be a fix over there.

Updating rom freeze
Hi, I don't post much if at all, normally you guys have it right on the button, this is my 3rd phone to run custom roms on but for some reason it just freezes on the "Updating ROM image on your PDA Phone..." screen and doesn't continue past, on my last 2 phones active sync worked well with updating to custom roms, seems like my Pure produces the same error after the attempt, its a communication error "ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR", now recovering from the error is not a issue, we all have familiarity in that area but I was wondering if it could be something as simple as the cable that was sent with my phone or if its possible to flash rom through sd card as opposed to using active sync?

Yes, you can flash through storage card, just rename the .nbh to TOPAIMG.nbh, Put in root of storage card and enter bootloader mode.
You have HSPL'd, right?

Just to confirm, you have to name it exactly "TOPAIMG.nbh".
With all of the people that have tried all methods and still can't flash, something must have changed in the stock SPL.

From HTC site (HTC Pure support):
What is a Soft Reset and how is it performed?
A soft reset basically resets the memory structure in the handheld. This recovers the device from memory conflicts, corrupted system service chains (mainly due to attempting hacks), memory leaks, and system lockups due to the “Fatal Exception” program errors. Removing the battery from the device while it is still powered on is NOT a soft reset and can actually damage the device.
A Soft Reset is performed by:
Remove the Battery cover and the Stylus from the device.
Insert the tip of the stylus into the Reset hole located at the entry point of the stylus silo.
The device will reboot.
I don't know if this topic is covered but I could not find and exact thread for this.
I used an HTC Pure on AT&T for some time and I flashed several ROMs as they were updated on XDA. I recently switched to Verizon and HTC Incredible and wanted to try and sell my Pure. What I did not do before I ported my number to Verizon was reset my phone. Now that the existing SIM card is invalid, I tried flashing the phone without it to the original AT&T ROM for Pure. Apparently there were some issues and the flash did not complete. I tried flashing it to cooked ROM (Energy) but still the flash did not complete.
The flash starts properly and then midway the phone restarts and I get a message saying that the update was not successful and that I should try again. Same thing happens when I try again. This message shows up on the boot screen (tri-colored screen). I have tried flashing via the SD card and CustomRUU. The official ROM comes as an .exe and I run is on my computer and the same thing happens. Sometimes it just keeps repeating the update process on its own erroring out every time before restarting the update process (on its own).
I don't understand any of this so I turn to you guys. Please let me know how I can fix this, if I even can.
Flashing w/o the SIM should not be an issue.
At what point during the boot process does it freeze? On the HTC Startup animation or bootscreen?
It perplexes me that the flash doesn't complete.
I am going to suggest following;
1. Take out SIM and SD Card and battery.
2. Replace battery and perform hard reset.
3. Take your stock ROM .exe, right click and extract to a folder on your PC.
4. Download the enclosed Topaz Task29 and unzip to your PC.
5. Replace the .nbh file in the Topaz Task29 folder with the RUU_Signed.nbh file from your stock ROM.
6. Go into Bootloader mode while connected to PC and wait for USB to show on the bootloader screen.
7. Run Task29.
If you are trying this from a Vista or Win7 machine, I suggest trying to find one running XP. Also make sure your battery has 50% or greater charge and turn off all AVs and hibernate and\or screensavers.
Hope this helps.
hey thanks ... i'll try that tonight and update here ... the flash process never freezes actually ... what happens is that the flash does not complete in some cases and restarts my phone .. goes to the bootloader screen and when it says either SERIAL or USB ... it gives the error message above ...
of course there was a time in this whole process when i did get the flash to complete ... at that time the boot process froze at the HTC screen ...

Flashing w/o the SIM should not be an issue.
At what point during the boot process does it freeze? On the HTC Startup animation or bootscreen?
It perplexes me that the flash doesn't complete.
I am going to suggest following;

What SPL are you currently on? (baardya)
Didn't get a chance to try Bruce's solution. Will do that tomorrow.

I performed the steps mentioned and flash was completed successfully. But on the restart, the phone freezes at the AT&T World Phone screen. It does not move ahead. Any ideas?

that happened to me a while back, try hard-reset, remove sd and sim, flash again with RUU, hard reset once more, replace cards.
Also try this cab (i know I had to use it at one point, might have been for hspl though), forget exactly what it does, but Bruce might know.
After i wrote the above message, I tried to flash the official ROM again, without the steps mentioned by Bruce (just directly) amd I believe it worked.
Thanks again.
