Windows Media Player 10 very slow on TuMa 1.3 - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Since upgrading to TuMa 1.3 the Media Player seems to be very CPU consuming i.e. very slow.
When connected thru WiFi I could use look at broadband televison thru the internet on WM2003.
Now I can't even look at lowband multimedia, i'm not sure if it's the WiFi connection that makes it slow or the mediaplayer.
Anybody else with the same experience or solutions?

Do you know if TuMa is aware of this and V1.5 might solve this problem?

this is a known problem in tuma 1.3
try a different player like TCPMP or GSplayer for music in tuma 1.3
better, wait for tuma 1.5

Is this just a problem with the windows media player or is it a system wide problem?
Info on my phone and use:
I am running wm2003, currently clocked up to 592 mhz and use tcpmp, the core, media player. Usually, i can play movies of up to 750 or so bit rate over the wifi without a problem. I use the wifi with this device for remote manegment and pretty much CONSTANTLY have to have it on. As in, the wifi is more important than the phone.
I have been considering the wm5 upgrade, but it's very important for me to retain this level of performance with the phone and wifi. That's why i'm wondering if it's just a wmp problem or if it's a total slowdown with wifi.
Thanks.

The overall system speed is below usable (ofcourse you ma try using, but you'll most propably get pi**ed off after about 20 minutes)

Mild skipping/lagging with HT820's.

I don't expereince any problems with playback when at stock clock. But I don't run any apps on my device other than phoneAlarm lite. I would suspect an app is either sucking cpu or leaking memory or just otherwise not behaving nicely. Do you have anything that stays resident in memory, like Today screen plugins or other apps that run in the background?
or maybe DirectPush?

Nope, just use pop3 with it set to check the server every 5 minutes.
Ok, I found that media player kills a bunch of memory, and figured that was the problem. I tried with TCPMP which uses a LOT less memory, and it still skips, though it doesn't seem to be as bad. It's only with music, it never cuts out with phone calls.
Figured it could be card read speed, so I moved a file to device memory, still skips
Ok, last post for a while. It's definately bluetooth related, as I can be listening to a song, it skips every 20-30 seconds, then I can turn off bluetooth and route the audio to the speaker and it stops skipping. I've tried this both with streaming audio via SiriusCE and with playing music files from my storage card. There's definately a bluetooth related issue, either with the bluetooth settings, radio, headset, something. Any input?

I'm going to try removing my weather plugin and today plugin. I'd really like to have streaming audio, I can open IE and check the weather.
I got it working about 90%, but in order to do so, I had to remove VoiceCommand (Might be able to install it again, I don't think it had much effect) SPB Weather and Resco Today plugin. Sucks to have to kill the functionality of the phone just to make a feature work, and it still doesn't work 100%, any ideas?

since you've stripped it down, you might want to try installing the aku 2.2 rom i just put on the ftp. it has a2dp. it may or may not improve things.
it does not have omapclock built in (yet) so you'd need to install that on your own if you want/need it.

I might do that after I back some stuff up.
on a fresh rom install, no plugins, etc...the headphones still skip. but they even skip when i'm hooking them up to my computer, though not as much. what's the bitrate of the mp3's you're listening to? i know the bandwidth of bluetooth is 768kbps but maybe bitrate does have a factor in this after all.
I have the exact same problem. Tried multiple headsets and same thing. Very annoying. After a minute or so just a blank skip for half a second.
I'm using the 2.17 rom. Thought about upgrading to the 2.2 rom but the problem seems to still be there.
I'm running MS Voice Commander, Resco explorer, omap.
Some things I tried that made no difference:
- tried multiple headsets HT820 and GlobalSat 820
- Overclocked 240 256 no difference
- Originally had 192kb MP3 files. Tried downsampling to 128 WMA files. Still same problem.
I may just give up on the bluetooth thing. I carry the phone on a belt case anyway. Not that big of a deal to have a cord...

I've tried all of the things you have except for trying lower bitrate files, that was going to be my next idea
The thing is, some people report that they get a skip every ~10 minutes or so, which I can tolerate. Why are we getting a skip every minute or so?

A2DP Headsets????

Has any one got them working reliabely with any of the available WM5 ROMs avaiable on this site?
And Which Stereo BT Headset are you using?
And What ROM are you using?
And What Tweaks and files did yopu use?
The only reason I am wait to upgrade to WM5 on my BA is getting it ro work reliabley.
Motorola HT820
I chose it for my father because it had good reviews and a low price point. there might be other uber-headsets out there, but they are expensive. The Motorola is comfortable, at least for me and him.
I tested with Helmi AKU 2.3 beta 1.0, but there is no reason to believe it shouldn't work with AKU 3.0 beta 1.1, as long as you install the fixes.
Windows Media Player had hiccups in the sound, I'd suggest using TCPMP as your media player. Helmi's beta 1.1 still needs some performance honing though. some games and video playback ocasionally slow down because of background tasks. You will take a speed hit of upgrading from 2003SE to WM5, but the machine will be stabler. I don't foresee myself going back to 2003SE. When I want a bit of more power, I just use XCPUScalar to overclock it.

A2DP skipping solution

Hi to all,
as pointed out many times in various XDA forums - there is a definite solution to the skipping problem with bluetooth stereo. The reason i post it again is that i never had the issue before, but it appeared with the latest ROMS 2.26 and beyond - probably due to more optimistic assumptions about the BT headset performances (i own a Jabra BT620S which i love, after i got rid of the Motorola HT820 because of terrific skipping that i could have probably solved!)
The solution:
set/change the registry BitPool (it is a DWORD in case you don't have it) by using TotalCommander or similar:
HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings/BitPool=40
A value of 50 or so means heavy skipping, the lower it is the lower the bandwidth between your headset and the wizard. At 40, i can be the famous 10 m away without any skipping with a great audio quality. But at 50, i have essentially to keep the wizard nearby my ears....
Last comment on the quality: i don't notice any difference, probably because my WMA files are encoded at lower bandwidth anyway....BTW, MaxBitpool and SampleRate, experimentally, have no visible effect (probably depending onthe MS implementation of the BT stack).
All the precise information supporting this empirical evidence is available in (see for example pg. 22 and 71 for the bandwidth estimation)
http://www.bluetooth.com/NR/rdonlyres/800D10CD-DE3D-4D51-ABC0-726C8DF26151/921/A2DPspecv10.pdf
Enjoy the Wizard!
No Skipping at last.
It seems to work for me no skipping as long as I am not syning via bluetooth.
Thanks for posting this fix, as the skipping has been bothering me for a while.
I thought it was fixed

Absolutely yes, you have to soft reset your device (keep pressed the power button or use the stylus in the small hole on the right side).
I use resco registery editor and there is no file for settings or bitpool? I have cingular 8125 and jabra 620
same here, i have no settings/bitpool in my registry
i have hklm/software/ms/bt/a2dp/devices/1, 2, 3, 4

2 fast i don't really care if vanilla or not

someone please tell me which rom they are using, that way i can try it, and if the sound still drops, i know it's my device/my loaded software
I'm using Core2.0 (as shown in my signature). But I got the hissing problem so I am using Axim Widcomm stack.. However, I still have to overclock to get rid of the skipping. The reason could be because I play aac+ files using TCPMP. I remember that there was no skipping in WM5 when I played MP3s.

Well I'm using the stock T-Mobile now (I'm in between cooks, and messing around with the registry files, hopefully tomorrow I'll be flashing..... again) Have you tried Faria's roms? a2dp worked pretty well for me using an IOGear stereo headset. Skip's were far in between, that is if they were present at all; usually when I had a lot of apps running, or when the phone was connected or connecting to GPRS was the only way it would skip. Your milage may vary though, but it might be worth a shot.
so i flashed the core 2
edited the registry (set it to 20 hexadecimal, which gives 32 in brackets) (i really didn't find a2dp settings in any other rom i tried) and now it works, so thanks for all the help - it's easy when you have the right rom
I thought I would drop in my .02 cents. I have a Jabra 620 as well. I had previously used Molski 3.3 crossbow lookalike rom (WM5). With that one, auidio was good but was not in stereo.
Now today I had some free time so I decided to try a wm6 rom or 2. With Faria's rom, the sound quality was good. I think he sets the bitpool to 60. But the rom itself is buggy.
Next I tried crossbow reload 1.7. This rom is much less buggy. But the stereo bluetooth sucks. The sound quality is very tinny. Also, there is this constant background clanging that is very annoying. I have looked at the bitpool. Bitpool in reload is 30. I changed this to 60 but it may have only gotten slightly better. Sound quality still sucks. To note, I dont get any skipping, so Im happy about that.
EDIT: I decided to change the MaxBitPool value to greater than 30. At 35, all the clanging and general bad sound went away. I'm happy!
sorry for the missed replies!
....i have switched to the trinity due to a wizard failure!
...If you don't have the bitpool register, you should create it. And by the way, i had exactly the same problems with the trinity and the same jabra bt620s, and changing the bitpool value worked again!!!
all the best;
Piero
I now have the ingenetics rom dump flashed to my ppc (see my sig) and it is by far the best a2dp rom ever - without overclocking (i forgot to try it, so i'll be doing that soon, to see what improvements i can make)

OT - how is the trinity compared to a wiz? i asked in my local shop, but with all the rubbish from orange on it, it was actually a lot slower than my wiz. and they wouldn't even let me hard reset it and let me remove the extended rom they even said there was no other software to make it run faster! nor would i be able to remove the orange crp - funny how we know more about these things than the sellers
Thanks for this post. I know it's been a few months, but I just got myself a Jabra BT8010 and this change in the registry value made a difference in the audio quality. I don't have the drop outs I had with the other value. The problem I have now is that TCPMP doesn't play the video smoothly when using the headset despite overclocking. Any ideas to the setting that would help? Thanks.

Bluetooth and Wifi cannot co-exist ?

Hi,
i notice this problem. when i on my bluetooth and Wi-fi. the system thens to lag and i cant connect to my headset. even if it is connected. it will disconnect from time to time.
this problem does not happen when wi-fi is off.
can anyone help

I believe this is because bt and wifi operate on very close frequency. Having said that I stream MP3 from my tversity server to my kaiser whilst listening to it using my bluetooth headset. Sometimes there is the odd blip but mainly it works fine.
Maybe the ROM you are using isn't helping. I use Dutty's v4. You might also want to try schaps advanced config as there are some bluetooth setting tweaks you can apply with this.
I sync by bluetooth while I update my RSS reader by wifi without problems. Haven't tried a BT headset, though...

Problem with Orb streaming

I have T-Mobile with the Data plan proxy. Problem is when I try to stream from my PC, Core Player 1.2 pops up (my default) and the connecting to MODEM bubble comes up instead of DATA. PIE works fine for the internet, but my streaming from Orb or m.youtube.com doesn't. It does the same thing with WMP. It tries to connect to MODEM, and then it hangs for a few minutes, and says it can't connect.
Isn't it supposed to connect to T-Mo Data for streaming? It worked flawlessly on my Dash and my Cavalier. I can't figure this out. Anyone have the settings so I can stream?

Look for a cab called RvBCrS_HTC_Streaming_Media.cab, or PM me with your email and I will send it.
I'm having problems with Orb also. I don't even know which player to use. I'm using Dutty's 6.1 rom, installed coreplayer tcmp and streaming and non seem to work? Only WMP seems tp play the files and even then its sooo choppy its unbelievable.
Did you change TCPMP's defalut files that it plays?
Thanks pyro, but it's still trying to get online using wifi? I'm using the Data connection. It keeps trying to connect to modem when CorePlayer comes up. Am I missing some settings?
As far a a good player goes, use CorePlayer 1.2, it has Qtv and works great.

Then the programs shuts down. Anybody have similar issues? Any known remedies. Also in the orb stream options i choose to transcode to Windows media is this correct or shall i use something else?

I second that. I had to go back to TCPMP.
TCMP wasnt working for me either wat setup did you use?
tcpmp works fine for streaming... you just have to go into the file associations page and check asf, avi, http, etc...
in orb, you'll need to go into settings->streaming and make sure you are using windows media. by default, orb uses flash.
w/ my 3ghz p4, the picture quality is really good even @ 80kbps ( what I use with Edge for non-buffering video )
sdp picture quality is pretty bad. lol 'n right now, my kaiser w/ htc's streaming app doesn't even connect w/ the new AT&T rom.
Just wondering if you've played around with the buffering option, cause i cant get it to work over wifi. It plays but is soo choppy its un watchable
It still tries to connect over the tmodem connection. IDK if it is supposed to do that. I even hard reset. Does anyone know what settings to use? I have the 5.99 data plan. For internet it still uses the data connection, WTF?
I have streaming media cab, checked all file associations in coreplayer, made sure that orb is streaming in WMV. IDK, maybe we can't stream on data connection on the Tilt? Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and I did all of the above, and it still doesn't work.
