T-Mobile USA 2.24 Custom ROM (Wizard/MDA) - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Keep in mind that flashing to an unoffical ROM voids your warranty. I am in no way responsible for any issues you may come accross when attempting to update your ROM. Please keep your questions within this thread instead of PM'ing me as other users including myself can help you if needed.
[ File Name ]
T-Mobile_RUU_Wizard_2241010_224_22511_ENG_US.exe
[ ROM Versions ]
IPL: 2.24
SPL: 2.24
OS: 2.24.10.1
GSM: 02.25.11 (Cingular)
[ Description ]
This ROM is based off the T-Mobile 2.24 AKU 2.3 OS and the Cingular 2.25 GSM/Radio ROM. This is technically the latest OS ROM available as of today and the GSM ROM has been the best for me reception wise. The ROM installer includes automatic CID-Unlocking just as my previous releases did. I went through all of the T-Mobile 2.24 customizations and stripped them down into a single CAB installer, keeping only what was needed. I have also updated my Registry Tweaks CAB to correspond with the new OS/T-Mobile default settings. In the end, this is the cleanest ROM you will find for T-Mobile USA.
Note: This OS version changes the battery location back to the system tray and also includes Bluetooth Stereo Headset support.
If you have any issues upgrading to this ROM I would advise downgrading to the origional T-Mobile 1.08 ROM first and then try installing this one again.
[ Extended ROM Contents ]
Certificatin_Disable.cab - Disables certification requirement for cab installers.
Missing Shortcuts.cab - Adds MMS Inbox, Voice Tag control panel, Voice Dialing startup shortcut, ClearVue PDF shortcut, MIDlet Manager shortcut, Voice Speed Dial shortcut.
Registry_Tweaks_2.5.cab - Disable GPRS Disconnect Button, Disable Menu Animation, Disable Message Sent Notification, Disable Roaming Indicator, Enable 802.11G, Enable Cleartype in Landscape Mode, Enable Different GPRS/EDGE Icon, Enable IE background sounds, Enable Indicator (Caps/Dot), Store IE cache on Storage Card. *Can be uninstalled.
Smart_Dialing_Enable.cab - Enables Smart Dialing.
T-Mobile_Jingle_Ring.cab - Installs and sets the ringtone to T-Jingle. *Can be uninstalled.
T-Mobile_My_E-mail.cab - Installs the T-Mobile My E-mail client. *Can be uninstalled.
T-Mobile_Network_Customizations.cab - T-Mobile Data/MMS/IE/OTA/Security/Registry settings.
Total_Commander.cab - Advanced file manager and registry editor. *Can be uninstalled.
I have also included 2 often requested T-Mobile customizations which do not automatically install. In Total Commander change the path to \extended_rom\T-Mobile\ .
T-Mobile_HotSpot_Login_Utility_1.0.1.1.CAB - Self titled.
T-Mobile_OZ_Instant_Messaging.cab - The built in IM client.

Enjoy!

Nice! Thank you xelencin!

Quality work xelencin. Just installed and everything looks spot on. WiFi works no problem and radio is giving me all the bars. I pulled the nk.nbf from your executable just to change the splash and add acouple of my own cabs but no major changes. Thanks for making it so much simpler.

you are the man
xelencin you are the man bro. Thank you. Can't wait to get home and put this baby on my mda.

I've updated my Vario from Xelecin's previous 2.21 rom to this one and I can't seem to be able to add MMS settings for a different country. I've found the same configuration section at...
Messaging -> Menu -> Tools -> Options -> MMS -> Servers
...and on the 2.21 ROM I could enter new settings either by tap-and-hold on the existing entry or tap "New". However, with this 2.24 ROM I tap-and-hold and nothing appears and also the "New" button has been disabled.
I've tried altering the "UserCanCreate" and "UserCannotCreate" settings at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\MMS1 but no difference.
Can anyone help? I can't send or receive MMS otherwise

Downloading now I have an O2 Mini S I won from 4WinMobile but live in the US. and have T-Mobile service. This rom may be just what I've been looking for. Thanks!

I noticed that was disabled too, and you can't change the settings for T-Mobile MMS like you could previously. Are you properly soft resetting the device after changing those registry keys?

this is basically the aku 2.3 (mr.clean) rom right? i installed all tmobile things already so im wondering if this is any different from my current setup then.. aku 2.3 + extended 2.24beta rom. anyone know?

The OS ROM is is from the T-Mobile 2.24 ROM and the GSM ROM is from the Cingular 2.25 ROM. Origional T-Mobile boot screens are used. The extended ROM is all my own, I went through all the of customization cabs in T-Mobiles 2.24 ROM and cleaned them out / combined them keeping only what is needed. I also included my own registry tweaks I use/prefer of course; in the end this is the cleanest ROM setup you are going to find.

xelencin - great job - thanks again
this is the your 3rd ROM I'm upgrading to my MDA - so far - works like a charm.
keep up the goods ...

Well, to be safe I leave it for a few mins and power the device off via holding the power button and pressing "Ok" on the dialog box that comes up. Then I turn the device back on, wait for it to bootup etc and then go back into the registry to check the changes have remained and they do.
Anyway, I found a fix and it involves some registry editing...

2. Gateway Port number
3. Server Address. Note, if your telco's server address includes a port number then you must append it at the end of the address using a colon, eg http://www.yourtelco.com/mms/servlet:1234
I did this on my device and changed to the required settings for my telco and it worked

will this MMS bug affect me? im USA tmobile customer.. im gonna upgrade to this rom if this bug wont affect me.

The settings that come with the ROM are for T-Mobile US anyway so this won't affect you. Even if it did, I just posted a workaround above.

If you extract the cabs from xelencin's extended ROM and then run them manually on your device you can apply his customizations without having to reset and reinstall everything.
Because it's the same core OS as "Mr. Clean" battery life should be the same as your current setup.

I found another slight step backwards in this ROM...
I like using Opera Mini and Google Maps and they're both Java Midlet apps. In the Midlet Manager, tapping and holding on either icon and then selecting Security brings up another screen with various options. On the 2.21 ROM it was possible to select "Session" for session based access to either GPRS of Wifi depending. This mean that you will only get prompted once per session if you wanted to allow that particular app to have access to the net.
With this 2.24 ROM there is only "Oneshot" access. This means that everytime the app wants net access you get prompted everytime and you have to press OK to allow it through. When I say everytime, I mean everytime, eg load up page [prompt] click on link [prompt] click another link [prompt] get annoyed and click yet another link [prompt]
Can anyone still running 2.21 post the version numbers they are seeing in...
Midlet Manager -> Menu -> About
This is what I get with 2.24...
...I just want to check to see if they've put in a different version on this one.

So far it's working great for me, I'm going to check out some low signal areas to see if the radio has improved. Also have to set up my bt headset (wish it was stereo)

Quick question based on all these custom roms:
Is the 108 rom posted the totally stock flash the same as the one from HTC's website? If I flash with this custom ROM and wanted to go back to exactly like it was out of the box, I'd use the 108 rom? There's no locking of the extended rom or anything?

OZ Messenger
I've installed the OZ messenger software bundled with the rom update, and when i try to sign on, it gives me an error and i recieve a TEXT msg with a bunch of random code... i'm assuming its supposed to be some kind of "sign on sucessful" trigger. anyway here is a clip from the text
"WV11RL1 ST=(200, "successful") SI=1.1A################### CI=wv:OZ4121#[email protected]" Any ideas? I even tried to install the OEM T-mobile version that the unit was shipped with, but i get the same result.
Nevermind found the problem, I installed it onto the SD card.

Hi, will u pls tell me something about this ROM, I'm wondering what are the original parts of the combination -- IPL, SPL, Radio and OS. Is there a offical release of the T-mobile US ROM of 2.17.x? thx in advance.

It could be reached, I've already downloaded one copy.
Check the link please. The file could not be found on ftp
Someone deleted all the uploads on xda-dev. I will be uploading the files to http://xelencin.shackspace.com/ruu since xda-dev's ftp server seems to be unstable right now. If anyone wants to grab these and host them on their own for everyone else I would greatly appreciate it.

The ipl, spl, radio and os all come from the qtek 2.17 rom. The htc logo and splash come from the t-mobile usa rom. The extended rom is my own creation. There is no offical 2.17 rom for t-mobile, they are rather slow at these things.
For what it's worth, I was just trying to download these files, and when the download completed, I ran it and got a corrupted file error. I look at the FTP server again, and the file have disappeared! Someone is deleting the files, it appears.
I've hosted the files here:
http://www.joystig.com/wizard.htm
Does this have the new Comm Manager that came with TMO?
Sounds great... What is NOT in this that was in the stock ROM load? How far off will it be from the T-Mobile version that shipped with the MDA?
Also - any comparisons in terms of:
- amount of storage the two versions take?
- program memory/storage? (never enough!)
- speed / performance
TIA...
ahhh, I flashed one of my two devices (my wife's) Qtek 9100 and now it just boots and reboots over and over. Ok, without being able to establish an activesync connection, how do I flash it back? My phone is running the Qtek 9100 AKU2 release just fine. I should have just done the same to hers.

Not sure where to find it...but I've read a few posts that, as I recall, tell you how to get into the boot loader of the MDA, and proceed to reload the firmware from there. I'd do some searching around here - I suspect you'll find somebody (or an older post) that can help you get the toasted MDA back up to snuff...
The Newer ROM is up and working great so far...
The Original T-Mobile ROM seems to be corrupted and not available on the different links provided.
bootloader: hold the camera or recorder button in while resetting... then run an RUU. I had to run through many old incarnations and slowly update the device. I won't be trying a custom rom again.

You got it working though?
I understand the feeling... much as I'd like to try a newer ROM, I'm thinking that I'll probably wait a bit to see if T-Mobile comes out with an official release soon. Maybe it's silly of me...but I'd rather be in a position where they'll still fix or replace the phone if their own firmware load messes up my MDA. I've done a bunch of firmware updates to various devices over the years, and still find that I hold my breath while doing it. Don't need any extra problems just now, and my MDA is working really nicely for the moment, even loaded up with Wisbar Advance, PocketBreeze, ContactBreeze, iLauncher and some nice skins. I'd like some more memory, but the whole thing seems stable throughout the day, and responsive...so I think I'll leave well enough along for now!

Yes, thank goodness... but the phone is without some important things. Of course, like me, her phone was/is using push email, so she gets the most critical stuff back immediately, but custom app settings, etc are gone. I did have a recent SPB Backup... and all restores ok except for System Data. When restoring that part, the system will freeze and restart and then I have to hard reset. I wish I could do a more finely tuned custom restore and narrow down the troublesome part of the restore. Oh well, now to reinstall all of the apps that were on here.
I just flash this rom and everything seems fine but when I try to connect to the edge network, it won't connect. I have the 29.99 plan. How do I fix this problem?

[ Description ]
I was going to wait until the AKU 2.2 update was released before cooking a new rom but I've grown impatient. This is the latest os rom available and while it doesn't add anything new feature wise I have changed some other things around for the better. The first thing I did was update the rom install process to automatically attempt to CID-UNLOCK the device and because of this change I have recompiled all of my current roms with the new installer. The second thing I did was go through ALL of the T-Mobile default customizations and cropped out only what was needed; I also cleaned out all of the other cabs used during the customization process. The third thing was creating a new set of registry tweaks to my liking. In the end, on a fresh boot the device has over 40MB of storage space available and over 25mb of memory free.
If you have issues upgrading to the 2.x roms I would advise downgrading to 1.08 first and then try installing 2.x roms again.

so what's so special about this ROM? Did they remove the stupid battery meter from where the date/time should be? I already like 2.17 even though the caller id doesn't show up on my BT headset as it did on my old JAM. Was it worth the upgrade?
Thanks for doing this!! I too have become anxious and would like to upgrade. I have been running the last custom rom you cooked and I have been happy with it thus far. However, as of recently I have been having the random phone resetting issue that has been discussed in various other threads.
Does your current custom rom address that issue, as well as put in the stereo BT fix?
Looking forward to doing the upgrade!!
Upgrade working great so far.
Upgrade!
I have a sickness. I have to apply updates when they come available. It is a strange compulsion. Am I alone? I actually love doing it.

thanks again for all the work ... I have been using your 2.17 ROM since the day I got my T-Mobile MDA flawlessly and I just saw you released a new one - I'm going to install it right now.
keep up the good work ...
Keyboard tweaked
Just installed this on a Qtek 9100 and now the keyboard is no longer mapping to what the silk screen on the key says it should be. Looks like there are some differences in key mappings between the MDA and the 9100. I did try switching it from USA English to UK English and then back to see if it was a Regional Setting error and there was no change. It is not huge differences, but large enough that when you are using the keyboard that you have to hunt around with the "alt" button until you find the right key you are looking for. The hyphen key now maps to the underscore when you press the alt key now- stuff like that. Will definitly want to be careful if you intend to install this on a 9100 or Kjam, I think.

Tmobile USA MDA
Hi,
I am new to this and have been reading the msgs on this forum for a few days now. I just got the new MDA they have available in the USA. I just DL :
T-Mobile_RUU_Wizard_2210401_221_20710_ENG_US.exe
I did not install this yet. Still am a bit confused
I know its stated that it will automaticly unlock the CID, but how about the SIM? Will it also unlock the SIM? If so I guess there is nothing else to do, as it will unlock both SIM and CID and then install the new ROM. If not how do I unlock the SIM?
Also another question I have is RING TONES!! tmo only has a handful of ring tones installed. I have some great ring tones that I have on my old phone. I want to transfer them to the MDA, but where would they be saved to on the MDA, and how would I select them?
Thank You in advance for everyones help.
FM
thanks for the new rom. Im a newbie here and i just used the lokowitz to unlock my o2 xda mini s.My question on this new rom is there a special way to run it or should i just copy it onto my mini s and just execute it. I already unlocked it and im using it for tmobile usa, just need to get the tmo rom. please advise.
xelencin, thanks as always.. i downloaded yesterday from here. Have to wait till after plumber comes and goes before i update...
Adding A2DP AVRCP
Xelecin:
Nice work as usual. I just barely flashed the 2.17. I was using the 2.8 Qtek Test ROM because of the A2DP and AVRCP. Can this be added to your ROM somehow?
Also, is it bad to flash the ROMs a few time?
Thanks in advance.
just dloaded it - and gonna give it a try...
cheers!
what is the difference between the rom's you upload to ftp
I have mda vario. I want to upgrade rom but I'm not sure that I know the right rom available. xelencin upload 3 rom to ftp server of xda-developers(ftp://xda-developers.com/Uploads/Wizard/Roms/xelencin/). I don't know what is the difference so I want to learn the correct rom for my mda vario. Thank you
Do the ipl, spl, radio and os all come from O2 UK ROM? (which is the fastest base ROM I have tried).
Many Thanks
Martin
clock and battery still in same place wtf gives?!?
I installed this ROM on my Wizard. The express reason I installed it was because the wi-fi was non-functional for me on the stock T-Mobile firmware. This firmware doesn't seem to work either in the wi-fi department for me. The Wizard detects my wireless network and I'm prompted to enter a key (I use just WEP encryption). I enter the key and it never seems to connect. I have entered the key numerous times to make sure I have it right to no avail. One time it did seem to make a connection with my wireless network but quickly disconnected. There are other devices on my wireless network so I know it's working. My wireless network is just a simple Netgeat 802.11b access point. This is getting really frustrating. I'm running out of idea on what to try and was hoping for some help here.
Hey,
I just flashed my friends MDA with this new firmware with the 2.21 custom and everything went fine except after its done and i rebooted it, i am getting "Data Crashes. Please contact your system provider" and where the start button is, SIMlock is being displayed. Is there something obvious that i have missed or whats going on? I have the MDA too, succesfully installed 2.17 a few weeks ago. Any ideas?

T-Mobile UK AKU 2.3: Mr. Clean goes to London!

We've been getting some great ROMs designed for US carriers, but our UK T-Mobile friends seem to have gotten left in the cold. Sure a new ROM is available, but it's only being sold on new devices at this point. So I decided to build off the base Mr. Clean ROM and create a custom version for T-Mobile UK.
This is a AKU 2.3 ROM, using the latest OS core, the 2.24 bootloader, the 2.25 Cingular Radio ROM and a customized version of the T-Mobile UK Ext ROM. I've gone through the Ext ROM and dumped anything that seemed unnecessary, keeping just the vital bits. Repacked a few things, and included some vital accessories (Total Commander, Registry Wizard 1.0T, and the MIDlet Java Session fix) to finish things off.
.NET Compact Framework v2 is packed in as well, but it doesn't install by default. You can install it manually if you so choose by going to the NETCFv2 folder in the Ext ROM and running the CAB.
--------------------------
Exact version numbers are as follows:
IPL: 2.24
SPL: 2.24
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.24.10.1
Within the OS, Device Information reports:
ROM version: 2.24.10.1 WWE
ROM date: 4/17/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.24 Mr. Clean TMoUK
And the OS build is reported as:
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)
--------------------------
This version of the ROM supports A2DP natively.
Push Mail is of course supported.
I've tested the ROM with US based GPRS settings, but bundled the final version with UK based GPRS and MMS settings. Unfortunately since I don't have an active T-Mobile UK SIM card I wasn't able to test those. Hopefully someone can give it a go and let the forum know ASAP if there is an issue. This is one aspect where I was flying blind.
I'd also love it if a Blackberry user could install the BBConnect client and let us know if it works with this ROM or not. According to T-Mobile it shouldn't, but we all know that's been proven wrong in the past. Ideally I'd love to have someone who's got it working now upgrade and try it. This way we're testing from a known good situation.
One final thing, I had to repack the Soft Key application. If everyone can pound on that and make sure it works, that would be awesome.
And with that...
Enjoy the ROM (and don't forget to CID unlock before upgrading!)

Edit: It's been mentioned that some users may need to enter the WAP proxy info. If everything works, disregard this, however if you do need to enter a proxy server to browse the web you can use the following: 149.254.201.132:8080.
Superb!!! , i'll give this a go today. THANKS!
Hi,
you did a superb work but, IMO, you chose a wrong name: Mr Clean ROM, in fact, is a ROM without ANY mobile operator's stuff while your ROM contains T-Mobile UK customizations. So, from my point of view, it's no more a Clean ROM!!!
sounds fantastic. Those on T-Mobile have been waiting for ages for a ROM update, so your work will be valued by many.
Just a couple of questions before I jump on the boat:
Has it got the T-Mobile UK today screen customisation? I am on the 1.06 T-Mobile UK ROM and the first part of the today screen has shortcuts for the T-Mobile favourites (IE) application, contacts, calendar and notes. I quite like it and I don't want to lose it. If you got rid off it in the new ROM, would it be possible to install CAB files from my current extended ROM once the device has been upgraded with your ROM? I've got a copy of my existing Exetended ROM, so maybe I could select and install these CAB files later? or are there any incompatibility issues between the 2 ROMs, i.e. cab files that only install on signed T-Mobile ROMs??
Browsing the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=T-Mobile 1.6.2.105 UK, I guess these are the bits I am talking about here:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab
[from the wiki:Creates unnecessary Internet Explorer Shortcuts.]
and/or it could be this:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_UXC_Signed.cab
Shortcuts, registry entries for today plugins, softkeys, T-Mobile sound. Not needed.
and/or it could be this:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab
[from the wiki:Creates unnecessary Internet Explorer Shortcuts]
Could you include these files in the Ext ROM, or could they be installed afterwards?
I suppose it means I don't want my ROM to be fully clean, but to include the good bits that are part of the current T-Mobile UK ROM! The best of both worlds :!:
Also, will it be possible to upgrade/downgrade to the soon-to-be-released official T-Mobile UK ROM, or to the current T-Mobile ROM in case anything goes wrong?
I can't wait - my Wizard will be very happy
Thanks for your help.
Top stuff.
Just a quick point.. Im using a T-Mobile UK upgraded to a 2.17 Qtek ROM. I had CID & SIM unlocked it using Lokiwiz 0.2b prior to upgrading. Would I need to run the newer Lokiwiz 0.3 before upgrading to this ROM? And how do I access the Net 2.0 install CAB in the Ext Rom?
Cheers.
I've just upgraded. Will let you know how it goes. First impressions: the device is much more responsive than before.
No particular issues as yet.
thanks a lot - feels great.
It works extremely great. The GPRS works great as well.
overall far more responsive device and not a single issue with the new rom as yet.
Great job! Thanks a lot
Excellent news!!! thank you so much..... however, i think someone may have deleted it off the FTP
i dont see it there now

Don't worry, I'll still keep maintaining the original Mr. Clean ROM. That said, I still think the name applies. While this particular ROM may be customized for T-Mobile UK, it has been stripped of any "extra" bits and just keeps what is needed. As a result, it should stike a balance between a base Mr. Clean install and a fully loaded carrier build. I tried to build it with just the essentials...more or less what you'd end up with if you took the original Mr. Clean and individually added on the T-Mobile bits.

No, the Today Screen UI bits have been yanked. They took up a WHOLE lot of real estate and weren't particularly functional as far as I could tell. Really felt as if it was designed for a smartphone rather than a PDA. Also didn't want to take the performance hit. As it is, Calendar, Contacts and IE are in the Start Menu by default (T-Mobile UK typically moves them) and you can add the Notes link to the Start Menu in the settings. This still gives you access to your apps with a single click, but doesn't require the T-Mobile UK UI customizations. For what it's worth, T-Mobile US didn't bother with the custom today UI over here.
If you're looking for a suggestion for Today screen plug-ins, I'm personally a fan of the O2 XDA bits. Someone had posted a link to it here on the forum awhile back. I keep that running on my personal Wizard.

You can always install any CAB files that you've got. The T-Mobile UK UI CABs all start with UXC, I believe. They should install on most any ROM. I don't believe that T-Mobile "locks" any of its customization CABs.

Make SURE that you CID unlock before upgrading and you'll be fine. Most everyone SIM unlocks, but not everyone realizes that the CID unlock option in Lokiwiz02b has to be run separately. Do the CID unlock (if you haven't yet done it) first and you should be able to load any ROM you choose.

You only need to CID and SIM unlock once. CID unlocking is what's important. If you only did a SIM unlock you'll run into trouble. Both the CID unlock and SIM unlock should be permanent so once you've performed both unlocks you're good to go. Won't need to do it again.
To accesses the Ext ROM start up Total Commander and manually enter \extended_rom into the directory field. From there, just go into the NETCFv2 folder and open the CAB file. It will install directly from there, and as it is set to read-only, it won't corrupt the Ext ROM.

Edit : as of 11:35 the file has completed uploading.
Some damn fool keeps deleting the uploads section again. Someone give me his IP address and I'll arrange a DDOS
Thanks to thephm, downloaded and I am installing rom at present.
A quick question: after upgrading to Mr Clean's ROM I noticed my Wizard displays time with the US format, despite selecting English/UK in the regional format.
How can I get it display using the 24 hour format?
This seems to be a minor issue, but it bothers me when using Pocket Informant.
Thanks for any advice you may have

This is a setting that's built into WM5, though due to the way the drop down menu displays it can be easy to miss.
Start -> Settings -> System -> Regional Settings -> Time -> Time style
Choose one of the four options:
h:mm:ss tt -- 12 hr clock
hh:mm:ss tt -- 12 hr clock with leading zeros on the single digit hours
H:mm:ss -- 24 hr clock
HH:mm:ss -- 24 hr clock with leading zeros on the single digit hours
Enjoy.

Keep in mind that flashing to an unoffical ROM voids your warranty. I am in no way responsible for any issues you may come accross when attempting to update your ROM. Please keep your questions/concerns with the ROM within this thread instead of creating a new one or messaging me directly. These ROM's are xelencin built, community supported.

« Description »
This ROM is based off of the offical T-Mobile USA 2.26 AKU 2.3 ROM. The ROM installer will attempt to automatically CID-unlock your device just as my previous releases did. I went through all of the T-Mobile customnizations and stripped them down keeping only what was needed. This IS the cleanest ROM you will find for T-Mobile USA.
If you have any issues upgrading to this ROM I would advise downgrading to the origional T-Mobile 1.08 ROM first and then try installing this one again.
This will be my final ROM release for the T-Mobile USA MDA as I no longer own the device. For inspiring chef's, the custom T-Mobile CAB's I created should work perfectly fine with future ROM releases. It's been fun and the community following has been great, expect to see my name again if I own another device that uses Windows Mobile.
« Extended ROM Contents »

Enjoy!
Holy Schnikes! I almost installed the T-mob rom, but thought I'd come back here for one more check. Thanks so much Xelencin. You've been a great asset to this community.
G4 owners pls read!
For G4 owners out there(*)
Your phone cannot be CID unlocked with xelencin automatic procedure so you won't be able to install this rom if your phone is CID locked (all phones are factory locked).
Also, do not try installing 1.08 rom as suggested or you will irrimediably brick your device!!!
If you own a G4 model you have two choices:
1- CID unlock it using some online sites' tool (you must pay for it)
2- 'cook' a modified xelencin rom by removing the IPL and SPL parts. to do this, follow the tutorial i posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088
(*) how to tell if you own a G4 model: soft reset the phone and look at the strings in the upper left quarter of the screen: if you have IPL 2.xx.0001 and SPL 2.xx.0001 then you have a G4. G3 models, instead, would have only 2.xx without .0001 as version number.
Thank you Xelecin. Been waiting this for a while. It's great to have your ROM's here.
I have a small question, I upgraded from the stock 1.08 ROM to Xelecin's 2.24 ROM through the installer which also featured the CID unlocker. Should I have to do the CID unlock again? If I remember right CID unlock is like death, only once. Am I right?
file is missing

Thanks! I enjoyed your last custom rom (2.24) without any problems whatsoever. So, i'm eager to use this one as well.
One question for anyone who can answer, what is the recommended program to backup all my stuff and restore once I'm upgraded the rom, or do you recommend that I just start fresh and install everything all over again manually (my current installed progs) ???
HELP!!! after update new rom
Hi After updating to the new rom, the mobile is very very slow and cant recognise the USB. so i cant charge it or go back to the old rom, the battery indicator is allways on charge altough the device is not connected to the usb or the power, and when going to status, it says battery unknown, can anyone please help, i cant use the phone.
It seems that the GPRS/Data settings alone aren't installing properly with this release. I am going to have to package a new install with the proper settings and I'll also release an extended ROM only install to update for those who have already or will be installing this one.

Thanks.
I'll wait for the update, before installing this one.
This one doesn't seem to have that little communications menu where you can turn on/off bluetooth, gprs, directpush mail, phone, and wifi. It used to be on the bottom right corner where if u click there, that menu comes up.
What happened to this feature?
I forgot.. I also wanted to thank you, xelencin for your hard work on this. You did this completely for us and didn't have to. I truly appreciate it - as I'm sure the rest of us here do as well.
Without you continuing to make these awesome roms, I'll end up having to switch to a new device soon before the year is over.
My own CAB with cellular settings
Could anybody give me instructions or links, how to make my own CAB for GPRS connection (modem, access point, user name, password, internet enabled, etc).
After each ROM upgrade I have to enter connection settings manually.
Thanks in advance
Ok guys, I uploaded this to RapidShare in case anyone wants it a little quicker...
EDIT: Here is an updated link with the rom fixed by Xelecin.
http://rapidshare.de/files/29778984/T-Mobile_RUU_Wizard_2261020_226_22511_ENG_US.exe
After you click on the link above, scroll down, click on free, then wait a number of seconds to count down. Then the link will appear.
So much for a smooth final ROM release. As some of you noticed the T-Mobile_Network_Customizations.cab file was not installing properly, this was due to a little snytax error I made.
For anyone downloading the ROM at this point you are fine as I updated it, if you downloaded it prior to me posting this message then you need to run the fix below to reflash your extended rom. After running this I would either A) hard reset or B) browse to \extended_rom\Autorun in Total Commander and launch T-Mobile_Network_Customizations.cab and then soft reset.
http://xelencin.shackspace.com/wizard/T-Mobile_RUU_Wizard_2261020_EXTROM_FIX.exe
This is only required IF your ROM installer readme.doc lists a date of 08/16/06. If the date listed is 08/17/06 then this fix is already included and you are fine.

Generic AKU 3.3

This ROM is based on the T-Mobile AKU 3.3 WWE. It was cooked with a combination of the Scoter, double_ofour, Molski and anichillus kitchens. It contains no registry tweaks, carrier dialer skins or carrier logo and it even activates your stock extended ROM, which makes it ideal for G4 device owners wanting a stock upgrade. Smartdialing and Phone Pad are both blue. This is as generic as they get.

You can flash any extended rom to your PDA, there even an empty extended rom, which contains nothing
This is for those who don't use T-mobile. You can make your own extended ROM and flash it to the G4 if you like. The T-mobile extended ROM only gives you connection settings, IM and Winwap, so you may want these things if you are still on their network. You can also stop the customization by a soft reset after the welcome screen anyway.
I've cooked enough personal ROM's to give a different one to everyone on this forum, and I'm a little tired of bleeding edge. I figure this gives me and others an up-to-date ROM option. I can honestly say I like this as much as WM6 now that I'm actually using my device instead of playing with it.
Taking off my "moderator" hat for a minute, I don't like all of the "rah-rah" going on about people changing build numbers and the like because people are ripping off work as their own. Having someone else's name, number or customizations on my device is not to my liking. The good thing about this being a stock ROM is that I can post this as kitchen packages as well, since I extracted the XIP. Anyone can cook this ROM if they like, and I take the credit for none of it.
By the way, Only OS or has IPL/SPL, radio?
Is there anyway to install HTC home on WM5?

I don't know about HTC home. You can cook it and see what happens.
Wow, talk about under-sell, and over-deliver!
The best bit is my phone finally vibrates on incoming email!! I still can't quite believe it's working having tried SO many ROMs and it failing on my device.
I'm going to stick my neck out and predict this will be the best non-official ROM for the Wizard.
My only minor issue was it tried to execute the O2 customisation but seemed to fail (no error but device remained plain), but that doesn't bother me.
Just one quick question, did you put all the fixes from the ext rom into this rom? Not the TMO stuff but the cabs that install that do the Wireless G fix which is in the Ext rom?
Paul MDX, I'm not really sure about why it won't run your ext. ROM. I may need to replace checkautorun.exe for it to work on the O2.
NTS, as for the fixes, I left out the customizations from the T-mobile ROM because they are carrier specific. Almost no fixes/hacks are found in any of the actual factory ROM's. They are contained in the extended ROM's so I figured if a user allows customization, they'll get a factory setup which for me is exactly what I wanted since I'm using my device very heavily at this point.
It works on my cid-locked g4, but how do i know which aku do i have?? I think, that the aku didnt upgrade from 2.3 (love rom) to 3.3 generic. Help
I use now nbd 8.2 and the icons are the same - aku 2.3. I have modem link, which by aku 3 was removed?!?
Did you use shell tool to upgrade?

My connections were not set up. I had to configure GPRS by hand. I would normally get a panel asking me for Normal / Corporate mode, which I did not get either.
Paul, I'm still not sure how to get around the fact that the ext. ROM is not activated in the O2 device, so if I can get the checkautorun file from the original O2 ROM, that may solve the problem. This may mean cooking your own. I tried to upload the kitchen to sendspace, but it stopped. I'll try to get it done here when I get my laptop plugged in to a power source. I also have a new OS ready to go as I had to make a registry change to get rid of the pink and gray highlighting on the Smartdialing panel. Other than that, I don't think there is anything needed.
NTS, there are some .provxml files in the 3.08 ROM that have the customizations about which you are talking. I'll look at and see if I can do a Herald style extended ROM which activates one set of files in the OEM section of the ROM then activates the true extended ROM. This may take the better part of a week, as I'm going to be very busy this week and won't have time to keep flashing my device.

Paul, I'm still not sure how to get around the fact that the ext. ROM is not activated in the O2 device .. This may mean cooking your own.

Just to confirm, this isn't a problem for me, so don't dedicate time to it on my behalf. If you would fix it for other users or yourself, I can extract the file you want from my original .nbf if you point me to the tool.

This is the Scoter Kitchen which is one of the most complex kitchen's you'll ever use. It does a great job of extracting ROM's for cooking.
Is the T-mobile dialer skin in the extended rom? Which one please?
