Looks like they may change the pricing to force DirectPush users to purchase a special plan al la BB. That sucks.
I mean, come on, DirectPush is not like BB where Cingular has to host servers to support it .... DirectPush requried *no* support from Cingular at all and as such they should not expect a premium for it's usage, IMHO. But, business is business.
I can understand (although I don't agree with) the idea of charging more for a "PDA" plan than a data plan from a "not-so-smart" handset - Let's face it, the data usage on a device used to check email regularly is going to use the network far more than a WAP browser.
(Of course, as "dumb" handsets gain more features, and the data services get faster, that rationale may start to fall apart)
What I think is unconscionable is to take two devices that offer the exact same email capabilities (at least with regard to data transport), operate at the same speed, etc. (i.e., the 2125 and 8125) and charge different rates for each of them... Is the idea to punish an 8125 user for going with a bigger form factor (which is why many people may choose that device), or for using additional PPC-specific software that doesn't touch the EDGE network?
If they want to start tiering the services and restricting ports to those that don't pay the higher fees, that would be one thing - but charging differently based on which handset you're using??? give me a #[email protected]$! break!

I agree with all of the above. It will be interesting to see how they "detect" DP users. Perhaps they will block the heartbeat ports by default and open them for DP "subscribers".
Extra features from other ROMs?
So, I wonder if the new ROM will be interesting enough to warrant an upgrade away from the other ROM's that are out there?
I haven't upgraded myself yet (I'm dangerously close to doing so), but features like the "turbo" button / overclocking thing would sure be nice sometimes.
TTFN
I guess a question that should be asked is what happens to those already paying for the PDA Data Connect. Will we have to pay more? No one has said for sure and my call to Cingular CS was a waste of time.
Yay for T-Mobile and completely unlimited data + hotspot for $30/mo.

Or maybe create a dedicated APN for heartbeat users (a la Blackberry)
my 8125 is still running on my attwireless plan, and my 'data plan' is mmode unlimited. I'm willing to bet that when dp comes out I'll be able to use it without any problems. I could be wrong, but they seemingly don't care about attw users, so I'm thinking that I'll be able to slip under the radar.
Here is a dumb question - with summiter's 2.3 ROM is push mail available? if so what options are there for the pushing without an exchange server?
I don't want to keep an app running on my pc all day...

Push Mail is available with any of the AKU 2.0 ROMs.
As for leaving an app running all day...well, if you're runing Exchange Server on your PC that's probably all you're running on that PC.
That said there are a few ISPs that offer Exchange email, mail2web.com and 1and1.com are the two that come to mind right away.

The release of this is targeted more at corporations running exchange than your day to day pc user. Exchange server is a very expensive piece of enterprise software that people spend years learning how to use. If you were able to set up an exchange server on your home pc in a few hours with no prior knowledge, I'd bow to you. In any case, its a great thing for those of us with a company with exchange, direct push is awesome.
Blocking DirectPush
Something tells me it will work just fine. Am I mistaken that you keep the terms of your plan for as long as you're on it? I have a plan that doesn't exist anymore, and they haven't changed it.
As for DP, can they block the port? Isn't it an HTTP connection? Or is it a non-port 80 HTTP connection? I dunno... I think it will still work, but if you want to start NOW it will cost you.
I could be wrong, but it's working now for me and I'm not paying extra.
Hell, my cingular profile still says I have a SMT5600 and that's two phones ago.

DP is a non-http/80 port. They could very well block it because they are the service provider, and they can decide to provide the servce, or deny it.
I'm very much on the boat of being pissed for paying more for a larger phone. Hell, the phone itself is more, why do I have to pay more to use it? Wonder if this is an issue, say I've got a 2125, give me the cheaper data plan, how would they know the device is different? The only, I repeat ONLY way they could tell is if they implemented an IMEI check every time a DP protocol was initiated. I would imagine this would be wasted bandwidth, and cingular wouldn't give a rats ass other than they wanna make the money where it can be made - that said if you can shell out a few more pesos for the bigger, better phone, then cingular comes along with their bigger better **** to ram you with... flippin' corporate america... when's it gonna stop.
RE: the t-mo user, yeah, t-mo, horray, don't work hardly anywhere I am, and the voice quality blows - unfortunately here in the Bay Area, I need my phone to have better service. I'd rather go with MetroPCS before t-mo... horrible phone cust svc, horrible support, horrible CS people, plain poor network for where I am. I don't like to dog networks, but man, T-MO is a long way from being 'acceptable' for Cali's Bay Area.
I'll tell you what my friends... just wait until Metro offers u/l web browsing and data for $5/mo on their a-la-carte plans... maybe then the big dicks of Verizon, Sprint, and Cingular will come off their high horses and help us little people out with a reasonable u/l data plan, like $20 flat fee, don't care what device you have - u/l text, data, pix. That'd be the day.
t-mobile's service is horrible EVERYWHERE, and my friend just quit them for that reason today. i have cingular, and i really like cingular. i haven't had a dropped call in well over 5 months now (the original issue was related to a weather program plugin for my 8125), and i have $20 unlimited internet/1500 txt/50mms. i'm not really caring about 3g at all now...

The device type can be checked every time it is powered on and registers on a tower. If a carrier really does want to tie service cost to a device it can.

Wow, I'm suprised to see a Bay Area person NOT like T-Mobile. I'm also in the Bay Area and coverage is fantastic. Dropped calls simply aren't an issue. Get EDGE coverage everywhere and CS has been pretty top notch when calling in with an esoteric combination of unsupported devices and getting them to work. Cingular's not bad, but there are plenty of places in SF where the T-Mobile line gets a crystal clear connection, but the Cingular line has issues holding the connection to a Cingular tower. When that happens I just force it to roam on the T-Mobile tower.

got the 8125 yesterday & found out today that cingular 8125 ppc wifi feature will cost you data rates ANYwhere you go on ANY node. Can't believe more people are not complaining. freakin joke
whatever. the axim x51v is better & you can't be charged EVER for use of it's wifi. People should boycott all pay as you go wifi phones PERIOD.
mine is the g4 (& no rom hack as yet) but more importantly wouldn't all carriers with wifi phones charge? And why would anyone want to pay?

I don't know what you're talking about "wifi" costing money. Any time you elect to connect to data using GPRS (edge or otherwise) that's not wifi. That's a carrier provided internet service much like surfing web from any wireless handset - except with a pda device you get the actual web page instead of some dumbed down version on a normal handset.
If you are under the impression that going home from the Cingular Wireless Store with your freshly baked 8125 and using the wifi with your home router will incur charges on your wireless phone bill, think again. Wifi is free, always has been, always will be. What you always pay for is the internet service attached to that wifi, or the device broadcasting that wifi, but never the wifi itself. 802.11a/b/g is free yo, so go right ahead and associate your nifty 8125 to that home router of yours and browse the web, cause they can't charge you half a penny.
I don't know if some CSR told you that WIFI costs bucks, but you must have gotten the wrong impression. T-Mobile does something called 'hot-spot' access, where if your device has wifi, you can go to a t-mo hot spot and get access for a monthly fee; cingular may be starting to experiment or have places like that - but again, you're paying for hot spot locations, a service, not for wifi. Besides, you'd have to go to their locations, such as Starbucks, etc.
Please, let me know who told you this, they need to be fired.

Uhh...WiFi is free.
Hate to burst your bubble.
Talked to two dif reps & both said the same. Cingular's WiFi (Sony)is a part of the EDGE network & ANYTIME you use the wifi on your phone you will be charged for data even if you have no data plan.
Clueless bunch here it seems. I have had this phone for one day & of all the questions not one person has a complaint with this.
Needless to say I wish it weren't so.
CID unlock should have no effect on being charged $ to use the wifi feature I'm sure. But then again you all would be even more clueless about that.

EDGE/GPRS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPRS
ok now that your educated by reading the following entries on wikipedia
Wireless internet that you associate with a wireless router such as those found in starbucks and various other places that offer wireless internet is for the most part free, and i say the most part because some time those places charge for the WEP or WPA key in order to access those access points. Wireless internet is NO WAY associated with Cingulars network. In no way possible does the WIRELESS internet have to deal with cingular.
ok that established
what the CSR were talking to you in terms so that you can understand things because in their eyes they thought you are technologically inept. Which is obvious from your two posts in this thread.
EDGE/GPRS is a feature that IS ASSOCIATED with cingular wireless' all over network. That feature costs money because it gives you access to the internet WHEREEVER WHENEVER you want as long as you have a signal to either Cingular's satellite or Cingular's Tower
Now to put it into contrast you can only use WIRELESS if you are at home with a WIRELESS router or wherever there is a wireless router present hell if your neighbor has a wireless router you can sit in their driveway and use the wireless internet WITHOUT CHARGE. Becuase your WIRELESS router is associated with your own ISP. So therefore you can sit comfortably on your couch browsing the internet. GPRS is associated with Cingular's network so you have to pay them per packet in order to enjoy the internet in the middle of the mojave desert if cingular has a tower there.
i really hope that clears it up...but please think before you type because if you're the only one crying wolf then maybe ...the problem lies with you

Dude, for you you to have an 8125 for one day, and call the people in this forum clueless is astonishing. Do you realize that some of these folks live and die by this little grey pda/phone, and know everything little thing about all of its functions? Some of these people here are as adavneced to write their own 8125 software, including the ROMS that you WOULD WANT to upgrade to.
By no means am I any sort of expert on this device - but I know that there will be no charges incurred while using it's Wi-Fi functions, unless your at a pay per use hot-spot.
So get a ****ing clue and do some research before you start blasting others about a device that you have no knowledge of, let alone knowledge of the technology in it.
Did you really think that you were going to be a great savior in this forum by being the first to realize and post that Wi-Fi incurred charges? WTF?
You have 4 options:
1 -cell service $
2 -text mssg $
3 -medianet $
4 -Internet Service $
Cell service alone is what I signed up for. #'s2, 3, AND 4 cost $. Cingular does not give a **** how you THINK your phone connects to the internet. IF you connect at all it IS 1 cent/kilobyte PERIOD, UNLESS you have a data plan. Which I don't.
Be advised. There is no bubble anymore. Do yourself a favor & return this pos asap.
I have now talked to 3 dif reps within the space of 2 hrs & I am done with this question as well as the phone. do what you like

wifi as stated is free. my gripe is only that I was not told that this phone would not be free when using wifi. Actually I would say you never really are using a wifi connect with the 8125, it's more like cingular's pay as you go plan. And yes, it does seem most aren't aware of this fact. If you guys can so easily dismiss paying for something which is free, more power to you. However, most would believe it to be free & would never willingly pay. Yeah This is good information. How you personally feel about your device or phone or this thread or even this forum is meaningless. Just because you were wrong doesn't give you the right to now be offensive.

I love it when noobs spout out stuff like they know what they are talking about.
If you are too dumb to know why you are getting charged, then you deserve the charges that you get.

this is too hilarious im pissin my pants.....this guy tweker has no clue that when you say "wifi" it's free...the device has the ability to use wifi and gprs/edge....when using wifi for example at home, you are connecting to the internet for free....when you are connecting by gprs/edge....you are using cingular's internet service therefore it's not free....if you are at a tmobile wifi hotspot....the device can connect to the network because it has the ability to use wifi but you have to pay because it's tmobile's internet and not yours like you may have at home.....
the funniest part of it all....is he stands strong on his first comments and keeps calling cingular to confirm since he IS clueless and stupid cingular reps keep thinkin he's CLUELESS as well and therefore still using terms he can understand by still calling any sort of internet connection as "wifi"

Its my understanding with the Tilt / Kaiser /TyTN II / Whatever-They-Want-To-Call-This-Beast-of-Burden that using Internet Sharing, AT&T couldn't track tethering except through extreme data usage. Well, according to a feature sheet for 6.1 that I noticed in another thread, in 6.1 AT&T will be able to track tethering through IS and bill accordingly! No more tethering my laptop when I'm on the Greyhound.

AT&T considers "tethering" a computer a separate account/line thus unlimited which I have, technically does not allow tethering. So that's why they bend ya over for more money to use tethering with a computer. The computer is technically another line/account.

well wut if u haad the unlim. pda package and u say now they are capping it. Does the price go down? or am i still paying the 50 bucks.
doesnt it say also have?
it says "enable DUN to be used on devices that also have internet sharing." wouldn't that mean you would have a choice of which option to use.
Looks more like DUN uses IS instead of bypassing it as it does now with 6.0. Currently, you can't track DUN data usage on the phone but the carrier still sees it.
I don't see what difference this new change makes except BT DUN is not longer the bastard, red-headed step-child anymore.
Doesn't seem like a huge problem. Just use a non-AT&T firmware.
I'm confused. I tether using PAN with my Tilt. Does this new feature mean they can track usage of DUN, or both DUN and PAN? So should I be worried that I now have 6.1 on my Tilt?
i am going to florida for four days and i want to tether on my laptop so i can sling box on the comp. If i am caught tethering what is the penalty/charge? if one time monthly charge it might be worth it. also are there any pre-paid wireless internet plans from att or anywhere else?
It's a matter of time before someone cooks a rom or makes a cab that hinders or disables the reporting that you are tethering.

But thats the thing.
Technically it is NOT another line NOR account. Why do you think you have to run ICS application for the whole thing to work? It's an application that simply makes any request from your PC be made on the phone natively.
When you connect to port 23 from your computer to a domain -- your phone is simply making that socket connection, and then passing everything back to your PC. It's a proxy program.
So technically, while you play Quake 3 -- your phone is doing the work. Not another telephone, not another line. Nope, the traffic would be the same if you were playing Quake natively on your device. The ICS program just sends outbound anything from your PC and inbound anything to the device.
So I think it is poor business to charge for something just because a program on your PHONE is running. ****, they already charge $50 bucks for unlimited PDA internet, and they cap it at 5 gigs on their network. That doesn't even include tethering! With 50 bucks I can get cable or DSL.
ATT is a damn ripoff. I need to find another US carrier ASAP.
Im confused and somewhat lost....
You know... I tether almost all school day on my tilt and have no problem. I have the 40 dollar Unlimited internet plan and although, may not be the fastest thing around, but for 1.5Mb speed, I cant complain. Im also on ATT btw. I also check my bill every day as well, and havent had a charge for it (knock on wood if I am just lucky then... )
That is definitely something that would have to be implemented through the OAL. That means it's bypassable. It will still just look like data to the phone.

I wouldnt go that far...until T-Mo gets their 3G in the USA ATT is the lesser of 2 evils (and yes I'm not even including Sprint, they are dead)
Does ATT have ANY unlimited data plans?
EDIT: I was just at ATT's website and they still have MEdia Net unlimited for 15.00 a month and 200 Texts for 5.00 a month. There is also a plan called MEdia Net Max that comes with both for 20.00 a month. Now, if WM6.1 will only allow ATT to monitor the data then isn't the choice clear? Stick with 6.0 or a non ATT rom. Correct? If I'm wrong somewhere, please correct.
Oh also, I'm with a company that offers ATT but I am not billed directly by ATT and this company has their OWN plans. I just use ATTs network. This is ALSO an option. I once used over 10GBs of data tethering with my 8525. I was never charged more than my current plan. $20.00
I'm using Dutty's new 6.1, and finally got around to start playing with the "internet sharing" function, which i find is REALLY REALLY COOL!
That means i can browse anywhere i want with my laptop thru HSDPA as long as i have my tytn2 connected
but i'm wondering, will O2 charge me extra for doing this? i already paid like 7.50pounds extra for unlimited web browsing...
of course, this is assuming i dun go downloading full movies and something stupidly big, you know, jus simple web browsing and recieving email and all that.
any ideas?
Just read the smallprint in the O2 contract. There will be a "fair use" policy which will probably give indicative usage limits. I use my T-Mobile Vario III on the move all the time to hook up my laptop and have never had any issues from T-Mob.
I would suggest caution as most of the T&Cs state that using the phone as a modem is breach of the contract, however it never stopped me using my old Vario 2 lol!
I asked about fair use when adding an ulimitted data bolt-on to my current contract.
I asked I assume there is a fair use policy on this, of say 200Mb?
She replied that the new bolt-on's (as of a month or so ago) are completly unlimited in terms of usage.
if it's not written down...!

you might want to check the contract to see if it excludes "tethering". they're unlikely to notice, but you don't want to get hit with a big bill...

I'm not going to try it. Just repeating what I was told.
Not sure how much truth there was in that...
I reviewed the O2 boltons they all have "fair useage policies" much the same as T-Mob.
Vodafone and Three currently charge when you go over there data limits.
And from what I can tell Three are the only compnay to allow "tethering".
Yeah 02's fair use policy for their "Unlimited" data bolt on is about 200 meg. Quite how they can call it unlimited is beyond me.
If you are using an 02 bolt-on that must mean you're on pay as you go. Could you give me some advice on how you set up your connections because the auto config thing which came on my stellar only configures for contract and i'm a bit confused. I've found the settings on this site but my phone currently has two connections, "mobile web" and "O2 active" and i don't know what the difference is between the two so i'm not sure what i should put in where (if that makes sense).
Thanks a lot
So with flashing a custom rom with 2.2, there's obviously the "mobile AP" function that's built into 2.2.
But my question is this: with ATT coming out with a $-per-month wireless tethering plan, will there come a time when they will be able to detect if we're using our phone's built in tethering, and automatically opt us into the $X a month plan?
Also, I've read other plans where you may get 2GB for the phone's data, and then an additional 2GB for tethered devices. How can they keep track of this? Can they tell if I am using my phone's tethering capabilities.
Obviously I'd like to continue to use my wifi tethering free of charge, and not have to pay ATT for their own service, much like Google Navigation vs ATT Navigator.
Curious about this as well. Came up in a conversation today at work. There was debate between tethering on Android and the iPhone. Any one have insight?

AT&T won't know if u tether through ur phone using android API. But u got to be careful as they can make out based on the amount of traffic u use.
Well, I can speak for the android phones but the never detected me doing it with my blackberry for the last 4 years.
Once they release their "version" I'll be able to report on the captivate as I will use it as much as possible.
Unless u have unlimited data plan, ATT should not care about it at all.

This is why at&t says that max bandwidth is used by less than 1% of their network users. And for a company this big, cutting/forcing data plan on this 1% shouldn't be a big deal, even if they threaten to leave, to ensure quality service to rest of the customers.

How about they upgrade their network to handle ALL the traffic and not keep selling/pushing devices that people use to consume data? IMO there is no abuse or "using too much" bandwidth. I bought an UNLIMITED data plan to use I see fit and use a device that has the capabilities to run apps that use bandwidth, I'm gonna use them when I want and as much as I want, and everyone that has such a device and plan should be able to. If more people would stand together and voice that they wouldn't be getting rid of the "1%". Customer service and providing a good wireless experience doesn't mean turning away customers that actually use the features that AT&T SOLD to them.
i feel like if im able to make my phone tether without their help and i have unlimited data i can do that... it's for MY USE AND ENJOYMENT.... i realize att and most customers dont feel the same, and any business model wont permit that, so im not trying to start an argument or anything... just how i feel about it all... i have an unlimited plan, that means i can use UNLIMITED DATA regardless of how i use it...
but to answer OP, stick with native android if casual tethering, just watch your back and usage... maybe look into the att plan if your gonna use it everyday

Right. Once in a while is ok. But there are some habitual consumers. Such accounts would get flagged. Cos they didn't complain when u consumed high a couple doesn't mean people aren't watching.

With all the customers att has I'd think you'd need an insane amount of data usage to get noticed. I have unlimited and I used 4.5 gigs last month with zero tethering. Also they may filter your usage to see if your playing an online game or something, obviously if your communicating with a WoW server or BC2 server for three hours strait you're teathering. But if your just D/Ling stuff a lot they really can't tell because your phone could realistically be doing that where as obviously it can't play BC2 ;-)

I agree. They don't care what u do. But they could be raising alerts to the network team if usage crosses a certain level. Certainly, many customers satisfaction in any given area is considered more than one satisfied customer. Thinking from business angle here. Most of the alerts they may not bother, but if any tower is getting overloaded, then it would create a high priority issue for them, and that is when notice of high usage could be sent to consumers choking the network.

Technically, yes they can tell that you're tethering... but not because the tether itself sends a red flag. It's the type of traffic that your "phone" is generating that can be a dead giveaway. For example, if the user agent on your browser says it's IE8 running on Windows 7 it's pretty suspicious. If you're running p2p, gaming or any other kinds of software or data patterns that aren't really expected from your phone then it could raise a red flag. They aren't sniffing everyone's packets. However, if you are using unusually high data amounts, they could start monitoring your traffic and determine that you are most likely tethering. I guess you could deny it. I'm not sure how far you could argue that or how far they could "prove" their side.
However, they're not in the business of running customers off. They aren't looking to lose or upset a customer. If you aren't abusing the tethering (ie excessive data usage on an unlimited plan) I highly doubt that they would care or desire to upset you. I do suspect that some day they may use this as a tool to get rid of the unlimited data plans. I also suspect that if you aren't on an unlimited plan they probably would never complain, since you are paying per gb. This is all speculation on my part.

The most they would probably even do if they did happen to single out a user for "unreasonable usage" is maybe ask you to stop or take away data unlimited. the fine print in the brochure does not say anything about cash penalties for over use it just says it will not be allowed.
Sprint sent us a letter saying that my dad's phone had been sharing his connection to computers without their permission. We have been using our phones as our house internet for about 2 years, we got 4G last summer, we use the heck out of it. We have the family plan with unlimited text and data. His number hasn't tethered in a while, we have been using my brothers phone for the house internet while he's in boot camp. Why are they saying they will terminate our account because of my dad's number? The phone for the house internet has used A LOT of data, but that's the point of have UNLIMITED can they really do this? They said they will be monitoring our data usage for the next 10 days, isn't that invading privacy? Thanks
They can tell when your device is tethering. They will only monitor the amount of data being used. Not what you are viewing or downloading. They don't have the ability to actually see that. Why don't you consider home internet? Its cheaper than a hotspot or mobile broadband

We can't get it where we live it pisses us off because it would cost us $24,000 to run it from the middle of our road to us. That's why we use the hotspot, we arent paying for the hotspot, if we did pay for the $30 fee, do you think we could use as much as we want?

I'd think you would be able to, but I'd still drop Sprint an email to make sure with them and get it in writing in case they try to give you trouble later on.
Unlimited isn't truly unlimited, it's unlimited within reason. It's in their fine print. They also say they can terminate you without further notice for using too much data per month, especially if you roam.
You need to come up with a better solution. It's because of people like you that make the network slower than hell for the rest of us. Tethering here & there I have no problems with but people that use it for home internet is just so stupid. You can get a hotspot or sat internet if you can't get a wired connection.
Seriously guys? When did this sentiment begin? People have been sneaking tethering for years and that's one thing that is a preferable benefit to sprint and these phones. Since when can they tell we tether while rooted?

Comet1966, Consider that Sprint, just like your cable, water, gas, credit card company all have the ability to "profile" you. They know who you call, for how long, what shows you watch, how much water and gas you use, and where you shop. etc.
Sprint Terms Of Service prohibits tethering unless you pay for it. They were offering 5 gb with the unlimited for life plan for authorized tethering. As others have suggested either try to work with Sprint to get a tethering plan or stop tethering if you like your Sprint service. At least they put you on notice and just didn't disconnect you.
And I know exactly what you mean, my dad's and brother's houses are in the country and from time to time I have turned on the tethering - but not as my primary internet connection for a household every month.
"I didn't pay for something and now that I am abusing it Sprint wants me to stop or pay"
First, you know tethering is an extra fee, by bypassing it Sprint could have charged you for every bit of data used. More importantly in response to your "unlimited" claim, it is unlimited data used ON YOUR PHONE. In fact Sprint doesn't even offer an unlimited tethering plan, I believe the highest they go is 5GB. It sucks you live in a crappy part of town but you need to look into an actual solution.
There is NO WAY of me finding another solution, we CANNOT get cable internet at this point in time. It would cost us $24,000 to run it to us. Now of course all the cable companys get our hopes up by saying that they have it in our area, right up until we call to get it. Google intended for the tethering to be free in the beggining, but yes its really up to the carriers. It is the only thing that we know of that is actually usable and stable. No need to start pointing fingers, I was just figuring out why. And to say "it's because of people like us that the networks are slow" is the dumbest dank thing I've heard today, 1 of the five phones that are on our plan could be downloading a torrent at 2.5MBps right next to me, and I would still get 20MBps, I believe yes they throttle us otherwise one guy would be getting 100MBps and the other would be getting 1. Bit the limits of our radio's also do that.

Why not just pay for a Sprint MIFI card? Believe you get 5 GB a month? Is DSL available in your area or maybe even another wireless provider (at my dad's house, they have a company that has basically WIFI that uses a special receiver attached to a small dish antenna pointed towards a tower)?
And if you are running Torrent traffic over a Sprint connection, that definitely isn't standard "smart phone" traffic along with the amount of Internet traffic, is what Sprint is looking at when it comes to "abuse".

Yeah, we had something called planet connect it aimed at a tower, but it was highly unstable and their customer support sucks now.
Well your only option now is to find another solution because if you keep abusing Sprints network your account WILL be canceled. This is not something new and this is not the only thread like this. I admit I do tether but it's only to send an email or two every once in a while. You have clearly been abusing the system and now you've been put on notice. You will probably continue to do it then you will start another thread complaining that sprint canceled your service for no reason. I am not trying be be an a#$ but you've been a member of xda since 2011, you had to have seen other threads like this.

NO WAY at all huh. You can get a mifi card using the same network connection. You shouldn't be torrenting over hacked tether. I hope they cancel your account and they should. The bottom line it does affect other users & the network. Sprint's 3G is painful enough as it is, borderline useless in some areas. Stop being cheap and get a mifi card. If you actually paid for a capped connection, you would be a lot more careful with what you were using bandwidth for.

READ THROUGH YOUR CONTRACT. There are provisions regarding the use of tethering. Its not the CSR's job to know what you and a million other people signed, It is yours. Sprint does not offer unlimited tethering. It is a separate charge and even then it has a maximum limit. It has always been that way, don't forget tethering existed well before Android ever did. This isn't even an argument, no matter what way you twist this you're wrong.
