Did I erase a program installed by the ROM? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi - I just installed the
Cingular_RUU_Wizard_AKU2.3_Custom_RNG_THM_A2DP_TEST2.exe
ROM. All went smoothly - THANKS! - and after the accessories package finished installing, I was restoring my own programs via Active Sync, and I noticed two (I don't think there were more) programs in the Add/Remove dialog that the ROM package seemed to have installed. One is called "Summ Summ." I don't know what the other was called, because I accidentally deleted it.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about, is there a way to get the CAB file for whatever program it was that I knocked out?
thanks,
Dan

Summ Summ is a poorly named cab file with some basic device customizations. If you do a hard reset those things will come back. The other was probably another cab file that's installed on first boot or hard reset which allows for selecting multiple contacts.

Do I need the summ summ file if it has been deleted? Or do the customizations run and then stay?
Thanks,
Matt

Cabs Installtion giving Error

Whenever I try to instal Cabs file, it give error...........The file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.........
These same cabs file were working fine till yesterday. Dont know what could have gone wrong. (Cingular 8125). I tried to browse to Extended ROM folder in Total Commander....but didnt delete any file there. However, when i again try to browse the Extended wrong, it shows many file names as garbage.
Otherwise my WIZARD is working fine. Activesync Apps are getting installed on my Wizard
Can someone guide me how i can get cabs files working again?
Error in Cabs Installation
Infact all the folders in 'Extended Rom' in Total Commander show names as junk characters. However, all file names are Ok.
So what are you trying to install and you say about the ext_rom!!! What file you trying to do?
Cabs Inst not working
I was just playing around and wanted to check if i can add new apps to Ext_ROM. I dont think i did any damage to it. But now i see that Cabs on my phone are not getting installed, and there are many folders in EXT_ROM, with junk names.

Did you cook your own Ext_rom??? Well if you did that means that it has been got damaged some how! I would flash it again and if you have the same problems i would go back to a pre cooked ext-rom and then try again!
I have loaded new ext rom. However, error still appears whenever I click to open a .cab file.
Any suggestions what I can do?

Please help a new Kaiser owner, Mac-based

Hello all. Just got my phone on Orange and I like it. I have been a Mac-user for the past 12 years so I am used to not tweaking my gadgets. Can someone explain how I install the CABs onto my Kaiser via either my G5 iMac or my intel Macbook. Many thanks
do'h not very sure, but you might want to try the missing sync, grab the latest version, it now supports win5 and 6. basically that's what you need to synch your mac and PDA, but not very sure if you can install 'em through it though
Now how do I find the installed CAB
OK I have downloaded a CAB onto the Kaiser via Missing Sync. (HTC album mui 0419.cab) So how do I now find it on the phone and activate it or any other CAB?
Thanks again
not that hard
I get that you're new, I am too, but try to figure this stuff out by yourself.
Bluetooth should work for getting files onto the phone (my docs/bluetooth)
When you sync to the phone, the PC version is that you see the phone on the schema/folder tree and can choose where to put it.
When you find the cab file, opening it will install it. Generally try to put system specific things on main memory and things like games on a storage card.
Look at some must have threads to find programs that you like and after you figure it out try a hard reset and reinstall things. That will let you keep a stable device.
As for ROMS, I would be careful of even thinking about flashing on a mac unless you find a thread telling you how to do it, you don't want a bricked device.
Remember to search the forums - it's worth your time.
Just mount the kaiser with missing sync. After that, drag and drop the file to a location that you can remember. Once you do that, just go to the file explorer in the kaiser, locate the file, and click. You should be all set.
what about a non-cab files? with an .exe extension, will it be installable trough missing sync?
from what I can remember, Missing Sync is really broken at the moment. (under 10.5).
To install a cab, you just use the tab next to syncronize, what is it, the file tab or somehing?
if it's a .cab, it will be loaded automatically. But make sure there's no spaces/irregular characters on the .cab, otherwise, it won't load the installation, and possibly, the file will not be uploaded at all. I think this is a missing sync bug.
Nope, you're going to have to pull the .CAB out of the .EXE file

no but you should use quickmenu
A quick search found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361900
using PHM reg edit I went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/microsoft/shell/ AND FOUND controls and TaskSwitch......... no START MENU!!!!! also tried to install quick menu and could not get it to install on my device. Had it in device/program files, when I clicked on it, it opened there but would not install like other programs. Am I missing another step or something.

smart resident.exe problem

Hello folks!
I got a problem with the smart resident.exe.
When my Xperia (running TouchIT v10.3) starts up I get the message that smart resident.exe couldnt be found and I should eventually reinstall it.
programms which require smart resident like slovo ed sadly dont work for me
how can I fix this?
The screen that pops up looks like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=158253&d=1234889244
only that its on my xperia
EDIT: can somebiody with touch x attach their smart resident file so that I can simply copy it over to my device and see if it works?!
Uninstall SlovoEd.
Go to "My Device/Windows/StartUp"
There you should find Smart Resident.lnk, delete that and it should be fine.
Well that worked for me.
I know that slovoEd hast this smart resident lnk file.
Its like you sayd in device\windows\startup and there its called Solovoed 7.lnk and this points out to:
device\windows\slovoed 7\smart resident.exe but this smart resident.exe isnt there!
I got the error message (from the attached image file) even before slovoed was installed
Reinstalling a SlovoEd dictionary (Talking Concise Oxford English Dictionary for Windows Mobile) solved this problem for me.
Hi
unfortunatly i have this problem and I couldn't delete this file.
pleas help me.
thanks
bye

Tx FlimFlam!
I installed my language version & it did the trick. BTW: I noticed that for whatever reason, SlovoEd had "uninstalled" (?) itself. Meaning: I had not used it in a while & it was not visible in the Menu structure any longer. Without having checked: probably most files were still there.
Hi
go to my device/windows/startup
and delet ( Slovoed )
I did it and my problem solved.
say if that worked or no .
Reviving an older thread here...
it seems like there has been no proper solution this far. there is a few things one can do. they have been posted up above already. unfortunately this thread does not clarify what actually happens there.
let me try to add some info/findings of my own.
SmartResident.exe appears to be a module which sits in the memory, resident. i was not able to figure out what it is meant to do there tho, since the english or german menu items in SlovoEd, the donor of that little nuisance, are so totally badly translated that i couldn't gather their meaning.
I suppose that it is meant to catch words one marks and translates them via right-click or so, similar to babylon's pretty neat function.
It does not succeed in doing so tho. Hence it is useless.
What might be the reason for the warning at boottime? The missing Resident? Well, there is at least two reasons: either u did a hard reset and it just got wiped or u installed a new ROM while u kept SlovoEd on the storage card. This would have wiped the resident as well since it is not located on the card but always on main mem. And of course it might well be that u just messed with ur files and accidentally deleted the resident...
So, how to get rid of it? Mainly read above. Summary below.
1.) u can try to "fix" up the SlovoEd.lnk or SmartResident.lnk file in the \\windows\AutoStart\ or alternatively \\windows\StartUp\ folders. Just open them with a text editor and put in some crap, point them to some useless executable file.
2.) run a script each shutdown time to delete the .lnk file. eg MortScript or so.
3.) Re-Run any SlovoEd Dictionary or Engine Installer. When using a Dictionary-Installer make sure to select engine-setup as well since this will place the Resident into \\windows\SlovoEd 7\ where it is supposed to sit. Note: this will NOT get rid of the resident but fix a corrupt installation and thus make the annoying warning at boottime disappear.
4. option 4 will be my pref. keep a backup of SmartResident.exe in the SlovoEd 7 folder on the card and just copy it back over to its original location in case it gets destroyed...

Sneaky

Removing apps from stock rom (not through a kitchen)

I have a stock HTC Touch Diamond. I am wanting to remove the apps I don't use like Messenger and some others. I tried through ActiveSync but because they are built into the ROM they do not show up. Is there an app or something I can use to remove these?
Thanks

SKTools will allow you to remove apps that are installed on your device that don't show up in the Remove Programs part of Settings.
Also, you could hard reset your device and soft reset before customizations run and then install only the apps that you want.
Or, use activesync and browse to Windows-Start Menu-Programs and delete the program shortcuts that you don't want to see. Though with this option all you are doing is removing the program shortcut the program files are still there.
I tried SKTools but under the installed programs section it only shows the ones I have installed. I wanted to remove the likes of WLM, YouTube etc. I ripped all the ROM data (following one of the tutorials, so I have 4 RAW files but not sure how to combine them back to an NBH file so I can edit them in a kitchen to remove what I don't want.)
Ok well I managed to reconstruct the ROM but I have no idea how successful I actually was at doing such. I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066. I really want to put this ROM on the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622093 but I am afraid that if I screw up the flashing and my reconstructing of the stock ROM didn't work that I would be screwed. Any suggestions? Also my provider doesn't make the ROM available and neither does HTC (for Rogers that is).
In SKTools if you go to the Installed Programs Section click on the right softkey and select settings.
Then scroll down to "Show Applications Not Listed As Installed." Change the setting to Yes.
Maybe then you can remove what you want.
Also, you can use the Move Data part to move files, folders, and applications to Internal Storage to free up space.
Believe it or not but that is not an option under settings that will show Applications not listed as Installed... running SKTools 4.5.1.4.
Scratch that. I found it
