I have a stock HTC Touch Diamond. I am wanting to remove the apps I don't use like Messenger and some others. I tried through ActiveSync but because they are built into the ROM they do not show up. Is there an app or something I can use to remove these?
Thanks

SKTools will allow you to remove apps that are installed on your device that don't show up in the Remove Programs part of Settings.
Also, you could hard reset your device and soft reset before customizations run and then install only the apps that you want.
Or, use activesync and browse to Windows-Start Menu-Programs and delete the program shortcuts that you don't want to see. Though with this option all you are doing is removing the program shortcut the program files are still there.
I tried SKTools but under the installed programs section it only shows the ones I have installed. I wanted to remove the likes of WLM, YouTube etc. I ripped all the ROM data (following one of the tutorials, so I have 4 RAW files but not sure how to combine them back to an NBH file so I can edit them in a kitchen to remove what I don't want.)
Ok well I managed to reconstruct the ROM but I have no idea how successful I actually was at doing such. I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066. I really want to put this ROM on the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622093 but I am afraid that if I screw up the flashing and my reconstructing of the stock ROM didn't work that I would be screwed. Any suggestions? Also my provider doesn't make the ROM available and neither does HTC (for Rogers that is).
In SKTools if you go to the Installed Programs Section click on the right softkey and select settings.
Then scroll down to "Show Applications Not Listed As Installed." Change the setting to Yes.
Maybe then you can remove what you want.
Also, you can use the Move Data part to move files, folders, and applications to Internal Storage to free up space.
Believe it or not but that is not an option under settings that will show Applications not listed as Installed... running SKTools 4.5.1.4.
Scratch that. I found it

That is exactly the problem; how do I remove a program from my PPC?
Because via Activesync doesn't work.....
The program I like to remove is minimo (mozilla for PPC's)
Thanks!
Have the same problem, Windows can not delete programfiles. When i install an update of a program, the setup failed. If i delete files manualy i can install the update. Had the same problem with original rom.

Try....
Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs.
This should do what you are after.
my dear friend thats the problem....by doing any of the above i cannot uninstall any programmes ...it say cant remove programmes but do u delet it from your list of removable progrrames...funny
Same here. Minimo would not uninstall
went to remove prog. it said it did but all it did was remove it from the remove programs list.
Hard reset here we go. Pocket mechanic was the same for me.
It's ok when you exactly know where the program is installed - you should simply delete its files. But how can I upgrade to .NET CF 2.0?
Installer can't remove previous version and I can't delete files manually cause I don't know what files to delete :-(
I've had the same problem trying to remove minimo and the Atomic Cannons Demo. :? So far these are the only items I have tried to uninstall. I just deleted the folders and shortcuts, but I'd rather figure out what's causing the problem!
Running the QTek test ROM (WWE) on a US Tmo MDA.
I also have that. however most of the time it works for me to soft-reset and then remove. for some reason that works (for me)
I would recommend a soft reset just prior to removing software from a WM5 PPC. WM5 only minimises most programs instead of closing them when you click the X so the application stays open therefore files are still in use which prevents a successful removal.
Even if the progam has been closed by Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs or a task manager like in SPB Pocket Plus there is a chance that there are still associated files locked open unless a soft reset is done before uninstall. Windows Applications on the desktop will normally prompt for a restart after uninstall if files were in use however it looks like the majority of Windows Mobile apps (or Windows itself) dont have the same functionality (some Mobile apps do prompt for restart but not very many).
Also, apps with today screen plugins should be disabled, before a soft reset then uninstall the app as WM seems to lock the files open when active on today screen as well.
I havent had the uninstall error once since i have done a soft reset before uninstalling any software, hopefully others will have the same success. I know this wont apply to every situation but so far so good for me.
Cheers
Chris
Puckster is right.Run your task manager to see all runing programs and close them before trying to uninstall or simply soft reset prior to uninstall. It works without a flaw.
I am trying to delete programs that I believe I don't need. I use WiFi and do not have T-Mobile Internet Plan. Would I create a problem if I delete the following:
DAT MailTrigger
OZ Communications OM IM
T-Mobile HotSpot Login Utility
Thank you!
Are these in your Remove Program list? If not, you may not able to 'uninstall' these nicely.
What I suggest is that you may want to have a look on your Ext ROM, get all the CABS file there. Use some CAB managers, to open each of them and see where they have places the files and delete them. If things goes wrong, you can always have it installed since you already know which CAB is responsible for which.
Or, if you can affort a hard reset, reset your device and do not allow the Ext ROM to be install (e.g. soft reset your device after the security setup). Then, go into your Ext ROM and install the CAB files one by one, to identify the CAB files that you do/do-not want to install. This will give you a clean installation.

Ys, these are in my Remove Program list. They are loaded apps/software that is part of the T-Mobile total package. I did not load these using a CAB file. I guess I will just take a chance and remove them and see what happens. Like you said below I can do a Hard Rest if I need to. Thanks for your input. I do appreciate it.

I remove those apps if I remember too and since I've never had a need for their functionality, I've never had a problem because of uninstalling them. All you really gain, however, is a tiny bit of memory...which is probably why I usually don't remember to remove them.
Just completed removing the following:
Memory Available Before/After Removal: (Saved
DAT MailTrigger 3450/3624 (174)
OZ Communications OM IM 3624/3629 (5)
T-Mobile HotSpot Login Utility 3629/4052 (423)
Restart after removal and no problems.
Thanks for your responses.
I like to install trials to check out new stuff and such, but since my phone hasnt got unlimited space I need to remove them as well.
Now the problem is that when I go to settings > system > remove programs
it only lists the first 11 programs that I've installed myself.
Is there a tweak or a registry setting that can be used to keep that program list updated and show every program installed.
If not, how can I uninstall a program completely ?
there should be shown every programm you installed, if you installed it with a cab or over active-sync
on my phone there are over 20 programms without any problem.
perhaps you just copied the software?!
otherwise check active-sync extras->software there should also been listed the installed software with a cross in front, if it is installed on your pda or just on you pc
I installed everything (all cab files) through active sync.
My rom is still the original one too, but only the first 11 programs are listed on my device.
I am trying to free up memory on my Tilt. I have uninstalled all unwanted apps and decided to go directly to my Windows folder to delete unwanted files. I found different cab files and Windows Media files that appear to have been from the original ROM. However, the delete option is disabled for these files. Is there a good utility I can use to delete these files, without having to flash my device with a different ROM.
Thanks in advance
Nope. Those files are in the ROM and you can't remove them from the phone.
Technically you can if you know how to cook your own ROM
Soft reset after Hard reset
Thanks. I have read the trick on how to soft reset the device after hard reset and before the "provider" apps are installed. This worked great for me prior to WM 6.1, but it did not work with the latest 6.1 update. Is there a trick to getting it to work on 6.1, or is that no longer a valid way to get rid of those applications?

It still works -- you have to be quick. Have the pen in the reset hole and do it the instant after you tap the screen to continue
I am very fussy with my toys, and like to have what i need / use and not everything else that others have loaded, this is nice, but i dont end up using the programmes, so they annoy me as take up space
If i install a lite rom, with no prgrammes but a recent version, i take it i can then load the programmes i use / want and basically build my own device?
or is it easier to downloaded a kitchen and the programmes and make my own rom? i have currently got duttys 1.7, seemed to get high reviews, and looks good, but for me it doesnt feel right, some icons are not crisp, and i wont use, so thats annoying me.
then i have folders for apps and media etc, i loaded my programmes onto the mem card and after installing the new rom the proggies were still on the mem card (didnt know if would get wiped) so i copied the shortcuts to the programmes folder, but i cant copy to the indivual folders that they belong in.
where do i get the official programmes from if i want to build my own rom? like or the important / required stuff? or is that all included and the kitchen helps with adding extras?
its far easier to install a lite rom and then start adding your own applications. which, by the way, cannot be done by simply adding the shortcuts from the microSD to the Program Files directory. you need to have the .cab file for every program you want to install.
if you want to cook your own rom, you need to read about cooking and kitchen essentials. basically, you may find in there most programs you may want to include in your rom. also, there is a description on how to add other programs of your liking to the kitchen. there used to be a kitchen guide very good detailed around here, but cant seem to find it anymore.
i only added the shortcuts as i had originally installed my applications on to the storage card, so i guess all the nessassary files were there, and i was able to add a shortcut to the programmes folder for access from the start menu.
i think i`ll go with a light rom, and install programmes i want / need.
if that doesnt work, then i can try making one myself.
i am worried i will forget to install something important, will a lite rom include everything needed for the phone to work as it should? (all the touch functions, and camera, album, texts, signal, be able to play media files when install programmes for it etc)?
