I've been reading over these forums for the past week now, and now that I've finally received my XDA yesterday, I'm ready to start work on it .
However, I can't find the answers to the following;
My XDA has an O2-supplied 2.21 ROM version, Qtek seems to be a popular ROM to upgrade to, but is the latest version going to benefit me (speed, stability, battery life, etc) over the 2.21 O2-supplied ROM?
Also, looking over the FTP here, is the latest Qtek version 2.17?
Come on, someone must be able to answer me here ...

To upgrade or not to upgrade, it is such a personal question....
Nobody is answering because we each have our own reasons for flashing newer (or older Roms). You need to spend more than 5 minutes reading the different threads about the avaliable Roms, find one that sounds like it will fit your needs and have at it (OR NOT).

Hi All,
I have been reading the posts on this forum for the last 5 days and just need some advice.
Just got the Mini S and woudl like to know what ROM to upgrade to, various posts mention the QTEK or the IMATE and to be honest I am a little confused.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I need to use the lokiwiz program to unlock the SIM and CID before I attempt the upgrade ?
Thanks
Dan
You would also need to remap the keyboard as the O2 version has a different keysheet. The O2 build with push will be available within the next week or so.

I'm in a similar boat to the OP. Been watching the forums for a couple of weeks and am finally in a position to upgrade the ROM - still not sure to go QTEC or iMate....and now Lord Buckingham throws O2 back in the mix!!
@ Lord Buckingham - can you qualify where you have heard the news about the O2 ROM as all I have seen is pure speculation so far on these forums?
If any other Mini S owners can comment on the QTEC/iMate ROM argument that would also be a great help!
thanks.
I've just installed the Qtek 2.17 Rom on my mini, but now i'm having activesync problems. Not sure it's related, although I am tempted to try the Kjam 2.16 rom to see if it's any better. Will let you know when i've installed it...
Ady
I've been using the iMate 2.16.9.1 rom since it came out in feb, and it works fine for me. Dtharby, To answer your question you do need to use lokiwiz to unlock the SIM and CID before upgrading
After hacking around on my Laptop, I've resolved the activesync issue I was having, without going back to 2.16. So 2.17 seems stable, fast and bug free so far...
thanks guys. It's reassuring to hear there's some Mini S users in the UK that have has success with the new ROMs.
I think I'll try flashing tonight....maybe going to go for QTEC (just cause it came out later!!)
One last thing - is it actually possible to roll back to the shipping O2 ROM from these new 2.x ROMs?
cheers!
:?
I am a newbie with an O2 XDA Mini S
ROM Version:1.1.7.5
ROM date:9/22/05
Radio Version:01.08.10
Protocol Version:4.0.13.18
Ext ROM Version:1.1.7.105
Would like to know which is the best ROM version and procedures to update the ROM And is it possible to install a different manufactures ROM such t-mobile,qtec etc to this 02 Device !!
Pls Guide me through !
Thanks.
Xdawiz,
...cute name for a newbie! The people here expect you to do your research (and I don't blame them!!) ....that means combing through posts as others before you did. This does take time and energy. For procedures to upgrade a ROM I suggest you do a search as there are quite a few posts that tell you how to do it (hint: including one of mine).
The best ROM version??? No one will be able to tell you that becasue it depends on what you are looking for and what you use your phone for and how many problems are you willing to deal with. Do you want the latest and greatest?? Summiters Cingualr AKU 2.3 is awesome! 8) Some of the older ones though have had more testing time and therefore have been refined more. Try going through the AKU2.3 thread and seeing what some of the issues are and if they are ones you can work with. Many of them already have fixes that are quick and easy. Also...maybe look at the "Mr. Clean" AKU 2.3 thread and see whats going on with that one as it does not have any carrier custimizations.
...the only question I can not answer is using a Cingular ROM for an O2 device. Never payed much attention to it since I am a Cingular customer - but the issue is addressed in the thread - read carefully I think you'll find good news!!!
If you want to upgrade your phone and you want to do it right you have to read the threads and the directions!!! There is no easy process. Look at people's IDs and their signatures to see if they are also O2 users.
GOOD LUCK!!!
ms_guy99,
Thankyou verymuch for ur reply !Atleast therz someone in this planet to listen to me.
Planning to upgrade to Cingular ROM.As i asked i have certain doubts to clear before i make my phone dead !Thtz why i am seeking expertise help!
Sorry if i am troubling !
Hey there, i am using an HTC p3600 (trinity) for about 2 months now
i have the following firmware:
ROM version: 1.23.405
Radio version: 1.38.00.11
ExtROM version: 1.23.405.103
my main problems is the occasional hanging of the phone
my media card being unusable from media player from time to time until deleting the WMDRM and MSMETADATA folders, and a slow GPS lock time.
would you recommend me to update my ROM? and if so to what ROM?
Is it recommended to upgrade to WM6 (I'm not that hyped about it)
my p3600 is American.
I would recommend upgrading to reading mode. (ABR mode is still a little buggy and produces unpredictable results).
Your question has been answered so many times here.
Anyway. WM6 faster. More functionality. - which ROM? depends on your needs.
Set aside some time. Read. Flash. try before you buy - and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the upgrade. (Go with a cooked ROM - the WIndows Mobile 6 for Trinity page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359)
Some (but not all (some of the best are missing IMHO) ROMS for your Trintiy here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
what does reading/ABR mode mean?
and whats the best ROM to upgrade to?
can i upgrade without loosing all my software installs?
also, whats the best ROM if i want to stick with WM5?
Dimmmmmm

Hey, thats not that nice man,
you can just enlighten me with some sentences.
or a link maybe.
Sorry for being new in this business, but I'm sure Its something you can tell me about
rather then telling me to read for a couple of hours.

Asking Before Reading mode. was a joke. It makes the information easier to find if people read relevant threads - (where often the answer to their question can be found) - and if necessary ask a question in a relevant thread (or one where the same question has been asked even)
By creating a new thread to ask this age old question - read what people have already contributed first.
To give you a head start - Best ROM is the one that does what you want on your device. I would say for a WWE ROM (World Wide English) any of AX3L, mUn (Indogo), LVSW, bepe (sticky thread in the Trinity mobile 6 forum), PDAVIET, dopod WM6 ROMs are faster than WM5 and all OK (well the dopod one's not so clever). Threads with info for all these ROMs is available in the Trinity mobile 6 forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359
You cannot upgrade ROM without losing your sofware installs (and anything else on the Trinity's memory).
And if you're sticking to WM5 don't bother flashing.
Check out: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades and http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359
And always start here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Trinity. If you don't know that one then you're lost.
Great
Great, Thanks alot
Hey all,
First please let me say I am not looking for anyone to tell me what is the BEST cooked rom out there. I know each one has specific plusses and minuses that are suited to particular purposes.
Also, I have looked through this forum. I have read most of the WIKI, and spent an hour reading through various posts. However, I haven't found a concise discussion of this as many people are focusing on cooked ROMs.
I am getting a Tilt and from my reading so far I am pretty sure I want to reflash it with an HTC Rom. I want the TouchFlo and some of the other stuff that the HTC offers. I have some general questions though:
1) Is there a downside to putting HTC Rom on a Tilt? I know there are some little issues that have solutions (like keyboard remap) but will I experience any instability or call/data quality issues running HTC over ATT ROM?
2) Relating to #1...can/should I just keep the ATT ROM and can I then add everything from the HTC ROM (from cabs?). I don't know which solution yields the best stability.
3) Is there a reason why I would go with a 6.0 ROM instead of 6.1 ROM? I would like to believe that the 6.1 is the newer, better stuff...but maybe not?
4) What is the latest 6.1 official ROM? Is it RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship?
5) When it comes to "official" shipped ROMs and Radio firmware from ATT and HTC, is there any good reason not to use the latest versions? That is are any of the new versions a step backwards in terms of stability/performance?
I do not want to use any cooked firmware (at least initially). I would like to start with a vanilla shipped firmware and then add/remove things myself. If this comes down to me cooking my own ROM so be it, but I would like to start with the basic.
My goal is to have a ROM that will be fast and stable, with as few lock-ups or resets as possible.
Thanks for your assistance.
1)i dont believe so it depends on the radio i believe
2)i think u should flash cuz it'll remove all the atnt junk..bloatware n such
3)it all depends on personal pref...i did cuz i wanted the threaded sms function
4)i dont know.sorry
5)i think they're all pretty much the same..just gotta test the differnt versions to find out
most of the cooked roms i tried arent as bad...not many lockups or resets
i'm still a noob at flashing tho so still trying things out
Hi All,
I've just got my new Touch HD but have never entered the world of custom roms before.
My current ROM is 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE dated 10/24/08. I've just updated the radio version to 1.10.25.25. My HD seems quite slow and generally I'm quite disappointed with it. That said I was quite disappointed with my HTC Tytn until HTC released a new rom.
From reading this forum there seem to be many happy people so I suspect that the software in my phone is more at fault. I've seen the new Arabian rom that has been posted. It obviously won't install on my UK model (I'm not tied to a mobile carrier) without me tinkering, but I wondered if there would be any benefit in me uploading it. Does it invalidate my warranty or can I reset the original rom should I need it repaired?
As a rule do custom rom makers use the latest offical release and then tweak them? What are the benefits?
I'm sorry for so many newbie questions. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction of some great "simple" instructions I would be grateful.
Regards
Jonathan

hi bro welcome to XDA.
Everything regarding flashing, upgrading and choosing from cookded roms , official roms and valuable information can be found here for Touch HD thank to HDUSER for updating here:

good luck
The first couple of pages in the wiki are a bit complex if you're new to all this and have never customised your phone. Loads of unneccessary info (which is nice to know, but not always important). The easiest way by far to flash your ROM would be using SPL and flashing from your SDcard. Search the forum, as there one or two threads specifically abpout flashing for n00bs.
There's one specifically I'm thinking about which really helped me out, but I have no idea anymore which one it is and I can't be arsed to search for it for you Search is your friend (search for: flashing ROM n00b newbie).
